Logging on to two sites simultaneously

I want to log on to two sites simultaneously to enable a single sign on solution. We have a smallish wiki that is created with Apple wiki and we have an intranet site on a aspx cms system by Elcom. Both use Active Directory for credentials. Currently they are on different domains, but we could enable a rewrite using our load-balancer (Citrix Netscaler) or IIS. These sites are on different servers, one a mysterious Mac system and the other an IIS v6.0 on windows 2003. Now I am almost certain that a reverse proxy set up will solve this but I really just need someone to agree that this solves this issue, and if there are things I should look out for what they might be. I just want to have an invisible log on screen in an iframe and enter clone the user name and password using javascript.

cant get values printed in to a file

Iam trying to pass the value stored in the variable fieldCSV to file data.csv...Ive used javascript and php to do this.. Old functions return 'undefined' error once I add a jquery reference

Disregard this question: I've simply confused <script src="..."></script> tag and <script> [some functions] </scipt> tags. I have this function function OnLoad() { ShowHideConfirmAnswers(); return true; } triggered by onload event: <body onload=OnLoad()> It works fine until I add src="jquery-1.4.2.js" to the script element. From this moment I get "OnLoad is not defined" error, and the same happens to every other javascript function.

Best way to save info in hash

I have a webpage that the user inputs data into a textarea and then process and display it with some javascript. For example if the user types: _Hello_ *World* it would do something like: <underline>Hello</underline> <b>World</b> Or something like that, the details aren't important. Now the user can "save" the page to make it something like site.com/page#_Hello_%20*World* and share that link with others. My question is: Is this the best way to do this? Is there a limit on a url that I should be worried about? Should I do something like what jsfiddle does? I would prefer not to as the site would work offline if the full text would be in the hash, and as the nature of the site is to be used offline, the user would have to first cache the jsfiddle-like hash before they could use it. What's the best way to do this?

Display random image when page loads without utilizing onload in the body tag

I'm trying to create a fairly simple piece of JavaScript that displays a random image from an array each time the page loads. I need to figure out a way to get this running without adding code to the body tag. Is there a way to accomplish this without, say, an onload funtion placed in the body tag? Hi, Although this seems like something very basic, but no matter what I tried I couldn't get my head around it. Basically I want a html form where a user types in their ID number in an input text box and when they hit the submit button it displays their email address which is their company ID number @ company.com, such as below <form action=""> ID Number: <input type="text" name="idnumber" /><br/> <input type="submit" value="Whats my email address" /> </form> <p>Your email address is 'idnumber'@email.com</p> Can this even be done using html or would I need to use Javascript or PHP for it? So I would like some help here,how could I modify my "matches" variable,to have buttons also shown inside the dialog. Thanks.

Can I modify an ASP.NET AJAX History Point?

I'm using ASP.NET 3.5 with AJAX and have enabled history on the Script Manager. I have 2 pages, Default.aspx and Default2.aspx. I'm using the AJAX History on the Default.aspx page and saving history points on the server-side. There are some dropdowns on Default.aspx that I don't want to save a history point for each change but would like to save the latest state so that when I click on a link on Default.aspx that navigates to Default2.aspx, when I click the back button on Default2.aspx to return I want the dropdowns to reflect what they were prior to clicking on the hyperlink. So what I'd like to do is modify the history point that I originally set on one of my ajax async postbacks on the client-side before the page navigates away to Default2.aspx. There is a location.hash javascript property that looks like it may do what I want but when I modify the value the Script Manager Navigate event is firing. Is there a way to prevent this event from firing? And would this then do the job?

Change value of textarea when hovering link

I would like to change the value of a textarea when hovering over a link. I am not very proficient at javascript and do not quite understand the intricacies of 'this.' and 'document.' etc.. Currently I have a textarea 'info' that on page load is unpopulated and two links that should change its value. I can not seem to get it to work.. <textarea name="info"></textarea> <a href="foo.com" onmouseover="document.info.value='foo.com is a great site'">Foo.com</a> <a href="bar.com" onmouseover="document.info.value='bar.com is a terrible site'">Bar.com</a> I'm sure there is a way to accomplish what I need to do but I can't find it. When is (true == x) === !!x false?

JavaScript has different equality comparison operators Equal == Strict equal === It also has a logical NOT ! and I've tended to think of using a double logical NOT, !!x, as basically the same as true == x. However I know this is not always the case, e.g. x = [] because [] is truthy for ! but falsy for ==. So, for which xs would (true == x) === !!x give false? Alternatively, what is falsy by == but not !! (or vice versa)?

How can I test if an input field contains foreign characters?

I have an input field in a form. Upon pushing submit, I want to validate to make sure the user entered non-latin characters only, so any foreign language characters, like Chinese among many others. Or at the very least test to make sure it does not contain any latin characters. Could I use a regular expression for this? What would be the best approach for this? I am validating in both javaScript and in PHP. What solutions can I use to check for foreign characters in the input field in both programming languages?

How to Get the Method/Function Call Trace for a Specific Run?

Given a Java or JavaScript program, after its execution, print out a sequence of calls. The calls are in invocation order. E.g. main() { A(); } A() { B(); C(); } Then the call trace should be: main -> A() -> B() -> C() Is there any tool that can profile and output this kind of information? It seems this is common a need for debugging or performance tuning. I noticed that some profilers can do this, but I prefer a simpler/easy-to-use one. Thanks!

Browser Detection, do's and don'ts. Is this ok?

So, I understand that browser detection (ie. navigator.userAgent) shouldn't be used to decide which object method/property to use; yet, I want to set some simple CSS with JavaScript depending on the browser. However, it's not enough to justify a completely new StyleSheet. So is it OK if I use Browser Detection to decide what CSS to apply to an element? EDIT Ok, let's be SPECIFIC. I'm talking about a text-shadow inside a button (<input type="button"/>) The text inside the button isn't vertically centered in all browsers, so I tweak this with JS depending on the browser.

Catching uncaught exceptions

Hi everybody. In my workplace we are mantaining a lot of ecommerce websites, some coded better than others. On some of those, sometimes uncaught exceptions are thrown, and showed by the alertbox from the flash player debug (If you have it installed). To rise the average user experience I'd like to report all those exceptions throught a in house tool we already have. Is there a way to catch those exceptions? Maybe the flash player debug exposes them to javascript, or in some other way.

How to integrate a GWT app into another Web-Framework?

I need the ability to load and start a GWT App at any time in an Echo2 environment. My first approach was to load and execute the nocache.js in a Client-Server sync using var script = document.createElement("script"); script.setAttribute("src",javascriptURI); script.setAttribute("type","text/javascript"); document.getElementsByTagName('body')[0].appendChild(script); This call basically works, but when the script is executed it operates on an EMPTY document instead of the current document of the Echo2 application. Has the script to be somehow initialized first or is there any event required? The GWT application/script works fine if it's included in the start-up HTML of the application, so I assume the GWT App to be correct. The original standalone HTML of the GWT App has the HTML script tag in the body as well.

Is it possible to open a window from PHP that has predefined content? It's obvious how you can open a window from a javascript link that frames an existing page, or just do a target=_blank from a regular a tag that references an existing page. But I am generating a bit of content, and want that content to be opened in a new link (or streamed to the viewer)-- something like (clearly psuedo code!): $content = "Hello World. <br />Nice to meet you!"; <a href="#" target="_blank" content=$content>Open up!</a> Is this possible? The problem is when I enter invalid email, it recognizes it, but when I go back to this field and enter correct email, the error text still stays even though I have used the 'else' part. Need to include #anchor after querystring list

Hello, Form is 'get' to a API which operates off of querystring. One of the parameters is a PackageID which indicates a vacation package. In order for the packageID to appear I also need to append '#packages' to the end of the get request. Since not all form 'get' have a package I need this to be dynamic. I've tried adding a hidden field with '#packages' as the value - however the '#' is automatically encoded and therefore not registered when the server grabs the URL. What would be the best way for me to dynamically include '#packages' as it appears in the querystring via javascript? Thanks!

How to customize the to_json method in rails3?

I want to convert an array of Place objects to json, I've been doing it like this: var places = <%= @places.to_json.html_safe %>; The only problem is that every place in the @places array has an associated tag list that doesn't get included. I'm using the acts_as_taggable_on gem to handle tags, so to get the tag list for a place I need to say place.tag_list. What do I have to do to get the tag_list included for each place in the javascript array? I think I'll need to write my own to_json method but I don't know how. Thanks

I have a drop down list with known values. What I'm trying to do is set the drop down list to a particular value that I know exists using jQuery. Using regular JavaScript, I would do something like: ddl = document.getElementById("ID of element goes here"); ddl.value = 2; // 2 being the value I want to set it to. However, I need to do this with jQuery because I'm using a CSS class for my selector (stupid ASP.NET client ids...). Here are a few things I've tried: $("._statusDDL").val(2); // doesn't find 2 as a value $("._statusDDL").children("option").val(2) // also failed. How can I do it with jQuery?

Question: Where can I find the precedence of characters when sorting in MySQL, PHP, or just in general on Linux and Windows OS? For example, everybody knows that a comes before b when performing an ascending sort on a string in MySQL. But what about other characters? Does the dollar-sign $ come before asterisk * ? Does a space come before an exclamation-mark? etc... What dictates the sort order? Does it use underlying ascii / UTF-8 values? Is it different for different technologies? html file upload as part of another form

Idealy I would like to have the following: <form1 ...> ... <form2 ...> //This form uploads a file using AJAX and writes the content into a text field below. </form2> <input type="text"/> </form1> Firefox handles this but IE likes to follow the rules of W3C this time and it doesn't really work. So now I have to handle form2 outside of form1 through javascript. Can you provide some help about how to go about this? Thanks in advance.
