• Ubuntu 12.04 - no wireless network recognized

  I just installed Ubntu 12.04 along with WIN7 on the same laptop - Dell Vostro-3560. Now, on Win7 i can access to different wi-fi networks. However, when i am logging onto the Ubuntu section (after re-starting my laptop) - an error message appears: "Disconnected - you are now offline". When i take a look at my network menu (in the upper bar on the screen), i see that no network is found (and i have a few of them in the area...). I tried to look around but really could not find a concrete practical solution to this specific problem, would appreciate any solution from anyone out there that had this problem and solved it. • How to set up a mail server on Linux only for sending admin/debug emails?

  I need to send server reports to myself from my remote servers, and I don't mind them going to spam, so I don't need SPF, DKIM, etc. I tried using mailutils to send something like this: uptime | mail -s "uptime" [email protected], but the emails don't go through. In /var/mail/root I received a message saying the HELO was invalid. So then I tried also adding -r root@my-ip, and now I don't get any error messages but I don't receive the email either. How can I do this?

  I do make a research about accounting applications for Ubuntu 11.10 but any of the can satisfy my needs. I install Peachtree Complete Accounting 2006 with Wine but there's some bugs like, the Home Page does not appear (even I don't use it) and the Invoice Module does not work properly... it sends me to an error message and the application automatically close. I know about GNUCash and others but the real thing is that those kind of programs are made for personal budget and that kind of stuff... accountants like me, that we made the decision of migrate to Ubuntu, are in the need of a real accounting program for Ubuntu or, at least (and I think that must be the best option) Wine must be updated to run that kind of applications. The same happens thing happens with the taxes applications (at least in my country).

• Fixing a broken toolbox (In Visual Studio 2010 SP1)

  I was recently running into a situation where every time I opened Visual Studio 2010 SP1, the following message would appear for about 60 seconds or so: "Loading toolbox content from package Microsoft.VisualStudio.IDE.Toolbox.ControlInstaller.ToolboxInstallerPackage '{2C98B35-07DA-45F1-96A3-BE55D91C8D7A}'" After finally get fed up with the issue, I started researching it and decided that I’d share the steps that I took to resolve it below: I first made a complete backup of my registry. I then removed the following key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\VisualStudio\10.0\Packages\{2c298b35-07da-45f1-96a3-be55d91c8d7a}] I went to the following directory: C:\Users\Your Name Here\AppData\Local\Microsoft\VisualStudio\10.0\ and created a folder called bk and moved the .tbd files to that folder (they are hidden so you will have to show all files). I then removed the .tbd files in the root directory. I then launched Visual Studio 2010 SP1 again and it recreated those files and the problem was gone.   I recently bought a new VPS , and i was trying to set private nameservers in my domain cpanel. I went ahead and added 4 A records ns1.mydomain.com - points to my ip ns2.mydomain.com - points to my ip www.mydomain.com - points to my ip mydomain.com - points to my ip and changed the nameservers to ns1 & ns2.mydomain.com the problem is that now while typing www.ns1.mydomain.com and www.ns2.mydomain.com in browser it points to the correct IP address but the www.mydomain.com is saying an Error The webpage at http://demiracles.com/ might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address. Error 137 (net::ERR_NAME_RESOLUTION_FAILED): Unknown error. Error message in chrome is above. Please help me.

• How to install programs downloaded from the internet?

  I've downloadad the latest XAMPP file, to install it into Ubuntu 13.04. After downloading the file, I just can run it. I've double click it (and I've tried right click and clicking "open", whith the same result). All the answer I get is this message: Could not display “xampp-linux-1.8.3-1-installer.run”. There is no application installed for “executable” files. Do you want to search for an application to open this file? I've tried searching for an application, with no result... Also, I haven't found any questions related to this issue with the 13.04 Unity version... I've tried this solution, with no result. Please note that this isn't a Xampp question, the same happened to me when I tried to install Skype. UPDATE: I've tried this solution: cd ~/Downloads chmod +x myfile.run sudo sh myfile.run And I've got this error: Syntax error: "(" unexpected What should I do? Thanks!

• Problem on application with asp in IIS 7.5 with oracle 11g

  We have an application developed with .Net on server 2008 R2 and IIS 7.5 wich is linked liked to oracle 11g on another server. Our problem is that we lose the service every two or three or more. The application stops and we have to restart IIS or the server to continue the job (the number of users is less then 50). We have no error message. • Login and redirect to user home page [migrated]

  The problem I can't currently solve is when a user logs in. They arrive at the site (index.php) and enter username and password, which gets submitted via a Post form back to index.php - if there are incorrect details then they get an error message. But if successful then I would like them to be taken to their user home page - but I can't do this! I am left presenting them with a link to the home page, which is more than a little clunky. Seems there must be an obviously solution - never seen a site before that didn't redirect! Not sure is the answer is PHp, HTML, or Javascript.

  This is a known, documented issue with SQL Server 2008 Management Studio, but certain DDL operations like ALTERing a column datatype from Management Studio fails. For example, in Object Explorer, navigate to a table column > right-click on column > Modify. Then, change column datatype or length, then save and this error message displays: To workaround this problem, go to Query Editor and issue the following DDL statement instead:  TABLE dbo.FTPFile ALTER COLUMN CmdLine VARCHAR (100) ; ALTER   GO   The column change is successfuly applied now.

• Install problem on UEFI, Windows 8 new desktop

  I just bought an HP desktop, p6-2326s, which has windows 8 installed. I have tried booting a Ubuntu live disc but the machine won't boot it. When I bring up the UEFI boot menu it offers a selection of UEFI BOOT SOURCES, windows boot manager, dvd drive, IP4 Ethernet controller, or IP6 Ethernet controller. If I select the dvd drive with the CD in it I get the message "Secure boot violation, Invalid structure detected. Check secure boot policy in setup." With all other selections it just boots into windows. So where do I go from here?

I've tried running the following commands (as root from a terminal): apt-get remove lxde apt-get purge lxde apt-get autoremove I've also tried a rather lengthy command that was linked to from another question. However, when I log in, LXDE is still presented as an environment choice, and it still functions perfectly well, as if I've done nothing. I ran the above commands again, but got the following message: package . . . is not installed, so not removed. So, where do I go from here, short of re-installing Ubuntu and all my programs?

• why my system gets frozen?

  Is now something like 2 weeks since my system gets frozen while browsing the web, using apps, watching videos on web sites, basically using any part of my netbook, even when i'm only using one program (like the web browser) this happens. Is so frozen, that the only option i have left to do is to PRESS and hold the power button, nothing else works; I have seeing an error message telling me about a "compiz" error, but not all the times, and this happens every day, some times 2 or 3 times, during the same day. Why does this happens? how can i fix it? please help. Just to let you know i have my system up to date on 12.04 32 bits version, working on an Acer aspire AOD257, 1 Gb RAM, Intel® Atom™ CPU N570 @ 1.66GHz × 4 .

• Can't access my partitions after installing Ubuntu

• frequency out of range - please change display mode

  I just downloaded the latest version of the Ubuntu live CD, and have installed it on a desktop computer (a Fujitsu Scaleo P). Once installed it seems to work perfectly, although there are some updates recommended in the Update Manager. My problem is that, after having installed these updates and restarted the computer, I get this message on my monitor, and no Ubuntu interface is visible: frequency out of range - please change display mode I do not know how to change this when I can't access an interface. Is there a command that will bypass trying to boot the GUI and let me change the display mode via a CLI? I am brand new to Ubuntu and any help on this would be much appreciated.

• dpkg reports error on package icaclient

  I installed the icaclient (it's a client for Citrix) a while back. I don't exactly remember what I did to get it working but it was enervating. I had to install some old packages not even avaiable for ubuntu (12.04) and in the end I used some stuff from old rpms. Anyway the client is more or less working now but I always get a dpkg error when installing or updating something. The (translated) error message is something like: dpkg: Error while processing icaclient:i386 (--configure): subprocess installed post-installation-script return errorcode 2 I just want to tell dpkg to ignore this or remove this post-install-script but I don't know how.   When you create a sand boxed solution for SharePoint 2010 in Visual Studio 2010 and try to deploy the solution , you could get the error “Error occurred in deployment step ‘Retract Solution’: Cannot start service SPUserCodeV4 on computer”(See the Picture1 below). In order to fix this , you need to go to Central Administration -> System Settings -> Manage services on server and start service “Microsoft SharePoint Foundation User Code Service” If you are developing SharePoint on DC(Domain controller),you need to check the solution from my previous post. • IE HTML Debugger Causing Issues with IE Enhanced Security

  In an effort to debug a Silverlight component on a page in SharePoint I opened the Developer Tools in Internet Explorer.  After choosing the Find > Select Element by Click option my page refreshed for some reason and a small bar appeared at the top of the page reading: You may be trying to access this site from a secured browser on the server. Please enable scripts and reload this page. After a quick look around the internet, some seemed to be suggesting that you have to disable the Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration (IE ESC) in Server Manager.  Since this is one of the very first things I do when creating a VM, I figured the solution did not apply to me.  However, I decided to go ahead and enable IE ESC and then disable it again to see if that would fix the problem, and it did.  So if you see that error message in IE, the bar and you've already got IE ESC disabled, you can just enable it and disable it to get rid of the bar.

  I am working on a language learning startup. I think that one of the best ways to study is through music. For that purpose I would like to include MP3s on the website, together with related study tools such as appropriate lyrics. Because I want to avoid dead links I would like to host the MP3s directly on my server and stream them to the users. Doing this isn't exactly legal since everyone could download the MP3s. But what if, before accessing a specific song, I displayed a message asking "Do you legally own this song in CD/MP3/... format?" and only if the user clicks "yes" he is allowed to continue and listen. Isn't this how, for example, YouTube gets around legal problems? Does anybody have insight on this? Thank you!
