• Would you tell your prospective boss your SO username?

  Today I met a friend who is also using stackoverflow. He had a job interview today at a small business and during the interview, the prospective boss asked him how he assures that he's alawys up-to-date concerning technical questions and what he's doing to seek for a solution for a problem he can't solve by its own. Besides some magazines, journals, books and blogs my friend also mentioned stackoverflow. The prospective boss seems very interested about that and asked him if he could tell him his username. It appears that was the most difficult during the whole interview ;) Would you tell your prospective boss your username? An the pro side one can mention that the boss sees that you're very involved in your business and community but on the other hand it is a really private thing and you cant post anymore in thread like "what was the worst working environment?" My friend circumnaviagted this question by a rather lame answer (more or less: i use autologin, thats why i have to check the username later at home, ill maybe send you an email)

  Hi I have a form with a DataGridView (of 3 columns) and a Button. Every time the user clicks on a button, I want the get the values stored in the 1st column of that row. • Does GenerateScriptType support NonSerialized?

  I have an object that's used both on the client and server side. GenerateScriptType(typeof(MyClass)) However, there are some fields that I don't need on the client, so my question is there any way to prevent those fields being serialized? • Mapping to a different view based on child type

  So i have a situation where i have common base type but i need to map to a different view based on the child type. It looks like i can use a generic mapping class to handle the inheritance http://geekswithblogs.net/nharrison/archive/2010/07/09/inheriting-a-class-map-in-fluent-nhibernate.aspx But how can i conditionally map to a different view based on the child type? I see an EntityType property but it says its obsolete and will be made private in the next version. As an example i have a base class of ContactInfo is standard between contact types but the values come from different places depending on the contact type, this I'll handle through the sql view.

  I always see people in serious projects use :: everywhere, and - only occasionally in local environment. I only use - myself and never end up in situations when I need a static value outside of a class. Am I a bad person? As I understand, the only situation when -> won't work is when I try following: class StaticDemo { private static $static } $staticDemo = new StaticDemo( ); $staticDemo->static; // wrong $staticDemo::static; // right But am I missing out on some programming correctness when I don't call simple public methods by :: ?   I'm working on a feature that needs to send two text messages with a 30 second delay, and it is crucial that both text messages are sent. Currently, this feature is built with ajax requests, that are sent with a 30 second javascript delay, but since this requires the user to have his browser open and left on the same page for at least 30 seconds, it is not a method I like. Instead, I have tried to solve this with threading. This is what I've done: Public Shared Sub Larma() Dim thread As New System.Threading.Thread(AddressOf Larma_Thread) thread.Start() End Sub Private Shared Sub Larma_Thread() StartaLarm() Thread.Sleep(1000 * 30) StoppaLarm() End Sub A web handler calls Larma(), and StartaLarm() and StoppaLarm() are the methods that send the first and second text messages respectively. However, I only get the first text message delivered - the second is never sent. Am I doing something wrong here? I have no deep understanding of how threading works in ASP.NET, so please let me know how to accomplish this.

• OneToMany association updates instead of insert

  I have an entity with one-to-many association to child entity. The child entity has 2 columns as PK and one of the column is FK to the parent table. mapping looks like this: @OneToMany(cascade = {CascadeType.ALL}, fetch = FetchType.EAGER ) @JoinColumn(name="USER_RESULT_SEQUENCES.USER_RESULT_ID", referencedColumnName="USER_RESULT_ID", unique=true, insertable=true, updatable=false) private List<UserResultSequence> sequences; I create an instance of parent and add children instances to list and then try to save it to DB. If child table is empty it inserts all children and it works perfectly. if the child table is not empty it updates existing rows! I don't know why it updates instead of inserts, any ideas why this might happen?? Thank you!

• MovieClip progress bar width is too small relative to parent container

  I am new to ActionScripot and Flash and I am stuck with the following problem: On the stage I have a movieclip (Container, originally 200px width) and inside it with a progressbar movieclip (originally 700px width), scaled with Free Transform Tool to fit the parent container. The width of the container changes run-time while resizing the scene. In ActionScript I have a function which should set the progress bar width according to a calculated percentage value: private function updateProgress(event:TimerEvent):void { var barWidth:int = _container.width; var progress:Number = _stream.time / _stream.duration * barWidth; _progressBar.width = progress; } My problem is that the progressBar even at full time (100%) is only at 1/4 of the parent container. I assume that it comes from the symbols original size. Can I correct this programatically, or I must redesign it with the "designer"? I hope I made clear my problem, as I said, I'm new in Flash.   In trying to find the possible cause of an exception, I'm following a code path using Reflector. I've got deeper and deeper, but ended up at a method call that looks like: [MethodImpl(MethodImplOptions.InternalCall)] private extern void SomeMethod(int someParameter); This markup on the method tells the framework to call a C++ function somewhere. Is there any way to find out what method actually gets called, and in turn what else is likely to be called? NB: I don't really want to see the source code of this method, I just want to know the possible things that could throw the exception I am seeing that originates out of this method call.

• How can I get class, property, and method data from files without executing their code, similar to R

  I have a bunch of PHP files with classes, in them (although I can't be 100% sure that they won't have code outside of classes in them too), and I need to parse these files to get information about the classes, such as the names of the classes, the methods, the properties, whether they are private/public/static, etc. I looked at PHP's reflection classes and this is very close to what I want but the reflection doesn't seem to use external files and it appears to need to define the classes first. I need to make sure that none of the code is executed and I will be editing the files so I can't guarantee that they will even be error-free. Any suggestions? Thanks.

When I try to submit my iphone app with xcode, I've got error as follows; Code Sign error: The identity 'iPhone Distribution' doesn't match any valid, non-expired certificate/private key pair in the default keychain After searching, I found out that I have to create a Distribution Provisioning Profile. However, my distribution provisioning profile doesn't work, even though my Development Provisioning Profile works perfectly. Could someone please help me with this problem?   I have the following class as part of an asp.net application. public sealed class SomeClass { private static string appId = Guid.NewGuid().ToString(); public static ReadSomethingFromDb(){} public static WriteSomethingToDb(){} } There are more than one application instances in the same application pool, and they all access the same database. I want the operations performed by the above class to be uniquely tied to the instance that performed it, hence the use of the appId. So adding a record to the database would for example contain a name, address and appId. This has been simplified for discussion purposes. Assuming that I have two instances running at mysite.a and mysite.b the above class would generate two different guids. My problem is that mysite.a sometimes produces more than one guid, which is unexpected. Thank you in advance
