• jabber based server and client application in cocoa

  Hi all, I have implemented an application which supports text chat. Now I want to implement voice chat and later video chat in it, but I have less time provided by client :( So I am planning to go for some open source code in cocoa, which I can use and easily in-corporate in my application. After analysis over net I found that Jabber related client/ chat server application should be best according to my requirements. I have found that there are several jabber based client-server application but mostly written in java, C or C++. Can anyone suggest me some links or code for cocoa based, jabber server and client application?? Also I want to ask that lets say I got server application in C and client application in cocoa, then will I be able to transmit text, multimedia messages between client nodes?? Thanks, Miraaj

• Upload 1GB files using chunking in PHP

  I have a web application that accepts file uploads of up to 4 MB. The server side script is PHP and web server is NGINX. Many users have requested to increase this limit drastically to allow upload of video etc. However there seems to be no easy solution for this problem with PHP. First, on the client side I am looking for something that would allow me to chunk files during transfer. SWFUpload does not seem to do that. I guess I can stream uploads using Java FX (http://blogs.sun.com/rakeshmenonp/entry/javafx_upload_file ) but I can not find any equivalent of request.getInputStream in PHP. Increasing browser client_post limits or php.ini upload or max_execution times is not really a solution for really large files (~ 1GB) because maybe the browser will time out and think of all those blobs stored in memory. is there any way to solve this problem using PHP on server side? I would appreciate your replies.

• Monotouch UIScrollView/UIPageView with UITableView as panel

  Hi I'm building an app which is a guide to festivals. In the app I show lineups. You can see the Ui I have built for this on the video here: http://wmcstar.com/download.html The problem I have is that the scrollview/UIPageView - which does the left/right scrolling through the days, sometimes conflicts (i think) with the up/down scrolling of the days lineup UITableView and crashes. It doesn't crash if I disable scrolling - so the only way to switch between days is by selecting the day and programatically scrolling to the day rather than by using touch gestures. Has anyone else seen this behaviour? w://

  I'm trying to build a UI using directdraw in c#. For this im using a DirectDrawWrapper as sugested here. My initial tests setting up the screen work perfectly. But now i'd like to incorporate gesture recognition into the UI. So i instantiate a GestureRecognizer and tie it to the _form which also gets passed to the DirectDrawGraphics constructor, form = new Form(); _form.show(); _graphics = new DirectDrawGraphics(_form, CooperativeFlags.Fullscreen, BackbufferMode.Any); gestureRecognizer = new GestureRecognizer(); gestureRecognizer.TargetControl = _form; Pasting the whole DirectDrawWrapper code might be a bit to much, so let me try to formulate a question. I guess directdraw talks directly to the video memory, as it should. But then my form wont receive any messages, thus any eventhandlers i'v tied op to the GestureRecognizer wont be fired. How can i still receive any messages from the touchscreen?

  I want to know what kind of technologies are used nowadays as underlying screen capture engine for remote administration software like VNC pcAnywhere TeamViewer RAC Remote Administrator etc.. The programming language is not so important as just to know whether a driver needs to be developed which is polling video memory 30 times per second or there are any com objects built in the Windows kernel to help doing this? I'm not interested in 3rd party components for doing this. Do I have to use DirectX facilities? Just want some start point to develop my own screen stream capture engine, which will be less CPU hog.

• Displaying webcam feed using opencv and python

  Hi ive been trying to create a simple program with python which utilises opencv to get a video feed from my webcam and display it on the screen.   I don't think this has been asked before on this site, but I might be wrong. Does anyone know the basics of how to get that whole effect with the iPad Photos app? Basically, pinching a stack of photos lets you have a "peek" at the photos in that stack, which expands based on the distance between your 2 fingers in the pinch, then fully completing the outwards pinch gesture opens the photos in the stack in a new view. See this video to get what I mean. I know of at least one third party app that uses the same method as the iPad Photo app, so I know it's possible to do. I'm guessing I would do something with UIPinchGestureRecognizer but I'm not sure exactly how to proceed.

• Computing orientation of a square and displaying an object with the same orientation

  Hi, I wrote an application which detects a square within an image. To give you a good understanding of how such an image containing such a square, in this case a marker, could look like: What I get, after the detection, are the coordinates of the four corners of my marker. Now I don't know how to display an object on my marker. The object should have the same rotation/angle/direction as the marker. Are there any papers on how to achieve that, any algorithms that I can use that proofed to be pretty solid/working? It doesn't need to be a working solution, it could be a simple description on how to achieve that or something similar. If you point me at a library or something, it should work under linux, windows is not needed but would be great in case I need to port the application at some point. I already looked at the ARToolkit but they you camera parameter files and more complex matrices while I only got the four corner points and a single image instead of a whole video / camera stream.

• Debug.WriteLine not working

  In the past, perhaps versions of Visual Studio prior to the 2008 that I am using now, I would do something like this in my VB.NET code: System.Diagnostics.Debug.WriteLine("Message") ..and the output would go to the output window. Now it doesn't. Something must first apparently be enabled. If this involves "attaching a debugger", please explain how to do it. It seems to me that it should just work without too much of a fuss.   I'm working in Android and starting the video camera activity using ACTION_VIDEO_CAPTURE. Is there any way I can limit the length (in time) of the videos the user can take? I think this is possible if you use MediaRecorder, but I don't really fancy doing that since it's so much more complicated than using the simple ACTION_VIDEO_CAPTURE. Current code: Intent videoCaptureIntent = new Intent(MediaStore.ACTION_VIDEO_CAPTURE); startActivityForResult(videoCaptureIntent,1); If it's not possible, does anyone know whether I could set a timer (TimerTask?) in Java and then show a Toast message after a certain length of time warning the user that they need to stop filming? I've tried creating a context and authentication the user prior to performing the test but to no avail. Any suggestions? Do I need to pass sfContext to the sfTestFunctional? • synchronizing audio over a network

  I'm in startup of designing a client/server audio system which can stream audio arbitrarily over a network. One central server pumps out an audio stream and x number of clients receives the audio data and plays it. So far no magic needed and I have even got this scenario to work with VLC media player out of the box. However, the tricky part seems to be synchronizing the audio playback so that all clients are in audible synch (actual latency can be allowed as long as it is perceived to be in sync by a human listener). My question is if there's any known method or algorithm to use for these types of synchronization problems (video is probably solved the same way). My own initial thoughts centers around synchronizing clocks between physical machines and thereby creating a virtual "main timer" and somehow aligning audio data packets against it. • How do I design the file storage issue?

  I am working on an application that creates video files and stores them in a folder in the C:\ drive. I speculate that there will be a large number of these files in the future and we would run out of disk space at some point of time (on our VPS). When the time comes that we have to upgrade, we either plan to use one of the Cloud providers to store files or our existing provider can add another disk (say D:\ drive). Either way, I would want to design the app now in a way that in future, moving to different locations would not be an issue and would be transparent to the end user. The code that creates these files supports 2 ways: myObj.SetOutputToDisk(<path to store>); or myObj.SetOutputToMemoryStream(ms); If we go with the Cloud architecture, I assume we might have the following combination: Cloud Files + Existing VPS or Cloud Files + Cloud Windows Server Given the unknowns at this time, how would I go about designing this?

• Installing Tangible T4 Editor in VS 2010 RC

  I installed the (free) Tangible T4 Editor from the VS Gallery, and shut down/restarted VS. I run on XP under an Administrator account. VS Extension Manager indicates that the editor is installed and enabled. Here is my problem: When I do Add New Item (as in the video here), I don't see any of the Tangible templates. What have I missed? (BTW, I looked around some more, found the T4 Toolbox, installed that, and still see no new templates for Tangible or the toolbox). Thanks!

  Hi there Some time ago, I've heard what a great tool Emacs can be. I've read some papers about it and some watched some video too. I've read that emacs is great not only for developers but for usual users too...so i decided to start learning how to use it and wok with it. The problem is that I'm a MS Windows user and I learn in my spare time PHP and C(I also did some products on those languages, but i still considering myself in learning stage). Another problem is that I learn alone (no friends around to ask/learn from them, programming related stuff). Can you give me some tips about how to use those type of tools(especially those written for gnu/unix) with "poor" GUI but rich features? Do you recommend to use the specific windows written applications only and forget about those which come from GNU?

  Currently, a site I developed plays mp3 files directly in JW Player using the file attribute and public URLs to the mp3 file. This is now an issue with the client for legal reasons, and they now need to stream the audio files so that the users can't open up their cache and nab the files directly after downloading. The JW player site has a bunch of examples for streaming video, but nothing for audio. Is it possible to stream audio files with JW player, and do we have to pay a lot of money for a streaming provider? Is it possible to do on the local php server?

Camera resectioning is also known as geometric camera calibration. Currently I am using Camera Calibration Toolbox for Matlab for my camera calibration. However, the issue with this method is that it requires an extra step in calibrating the camera by using a special calibration object like a checkerboard. Additionally, it only works for one focus of the camera. How can I get the calibration parameters without manually calibrating? For example, how does Microsoft's Photosynth perform camera calibration on its images?

• How can HTML5 "replace" Flash?

  A topic of debate that's seen a resurgence since the unveiling of the iPad is the issue of Flash versus HTML5. There are those that suggest that HTML5 will one day supplant/replace Adobe Flash. I do not develop software that runs in a browser, so my (limited) understanding is: HTML is a pure-text markup language that is delivered over HTTP to a client browser. The client browser interprets the markup and renders (with varying degrees of success) the page according to an standard specification. Adobe Flash is a propriety framework for working with audio, video, sound and raster/vector graphics. It requires special authoring tools (a compiler perhaps?) and a custom player that's available as a plug-in to most common browsers. Could someone please explain (to this C/C++ developer) how it is possible from a technical/coding point-of-view that a text-based markup language (HTML5) could be considered a replacement to a multimedia framework (Flash)? Please no opinionated arguments - just technical facts.
