• Unit Testing iPhone Code That Uses NSLocalizedString

  I have an iPhone iOS4.1 application that uses localized strings. I have just started building unit tests using the SenTestingKit. I have been able to successfully test many different types of values. I am unable to correctly test any of my code that uses NSLocalizedString calls, because when the code runs in my LogicTests target, all of my NSLocalizedString calls only return the string key. I have added my Localizable.strings file to the LogicTests target. My question is: How must I configure my LogicTests target so that calls to NSLocalizedString will return the localized string and not the string key.

  I usually define my string variables in vb.net as Dim f_sName as string=String.Empty f_sName = "foo" Given the immutable nature of strings in .net, is there a better way to initialize strings and deal with the "Variable 'f_sName ' is used before it has been assigned a value. A null reference exception could result at runtime." warning? Also for classes that do not have constructors which accept no arguments such as System.Net.Sockets.NetworkStream, what is the best way to define and initialize a variable of that type?   heyy there i want to parse a text,let's name it 'post', and 'urlize' some strings if they contain a particular character, in a particular position. my 'pseudocode' trial would look like that: def urlize(post) for string in post if string icontains ('#') url=(r'^searchn/$', searchn, name='news_searchn'), then apply url to the string return urlize(post) i want the function to return to me the post with the urlized strings, where necessary (just like twitter does). i don't understand: how can i parse a text, and search for certain strings? is there ok to make a function especially for 'urlizing' some strings? The function should return the entire post, no matter if it has such kind of strings. is there another way Django offers? Thank you

  This is more of a philosophical/best-practice sort of question rather than a technical problem. Are there any strong arguments against writing a DataContract class with methods that are to be used server-side only? Or what about additional properties that are not decorated with the DataMember attribute? For example: [DataContract] public class LogEntry { [DataMember] public string Message { get; set; } [DataMember] public string Severity { get; set; } public string SomeOtherProperty { get; set; } ... public void WriteToDatabase() { ... } } Not doing it seems like an awful lot of extra work that I would prefer to avoid, although using extension methods could make it easier. But, as a good developer, I am wondering if it is bad practice to do so.

Can I still somehow use the object data provider to return all the records from the database for the detail view if the argument passed to a method has to be an int? • Addslashes, mysql_real_escape always adding two slashes?

  I'm having an issue with inserting JSON into a database, my intention is to take the variables, json_encode them, remove slashes (from magic_quotes), and then addslashes back in to escape the quotes in {"key":"value"} Unfortunately, strip_slashes on the encoded string isn't doing anything, and outputs this {"content":"<p>This string has it\'s downsides</p>","date":1271352514} I have then tried addslashes, and mysql_real_escape_string, both output "{\\"content\\":\\"<p>This string has it\\\'s downsides</p>\\",\\"date\\":1271352514}" I can't work out why it's adding in two slashes? And I'm tearing my hair out over this, everytime I try to stripslashes it leaves one in, and adding slashes adds two. Any help would be hugely appreciated!

• Why Date Format in ASP NET MVC Differs when used inside Html Helper?

  Hi, I just came across a very interesting issue. If I use ViewData to pass a DateTime value to the view and then display it inside a textbox, even though I'm using String.Format in the exact same manner, I get different formatting results when using the Html.TextBox helper. <%= Html.TextBox("datefilter", String.Format("{0:d}", ViewData["datefilter"]))%> <input id="test" name="test" type="text" value="<%: String.Format("{0:d}", ViewData["datefilter"]) %>" /> The above code renders the following html: <input id="datefilter" name="datefilter" type="text" value="2010-06-18" /> <input id="test" name="test" type="text" value="18/06/2010" /> Notice how the fist line that uses the Html helper produces the date format in one way while the second one produces a very different output. Any ideas why? Note: I'm currently in Brazil, so the standard short date format here is dd/MM/yyyy.

  I've a domain called Modulo with some properties and a Controller with a method that create a object from model and save it, when execute save the shell show this error: La propiedad [{0}] de la clase [{1}] no puede ser nulo But if i set the constraint nullable to true, the error show again. I think that i should not set this cosntraint. The model is linked to a mysql table with all properties except id allow null. I think I am not doing something wrong here. Any advice??
