  • Which software is best for browser compatibility testing?

    Which software is recommended? I know of Adobe Browser Lab only, and it seems pretty new... Is there any better SW out there? Thanks PS: I have a classifieds website (PHP, MySql, Solr, js) developed on local computer using virtual server etc... Now I need to test it on different browsers. It is developed only with Firefox, so it works fine in FF.

  • Email server; Is this method spam-safe?

    I have a classifieds website, and on each classified there is a tip-form where users may tip a friend about the classified. The tip-forms' action is set to a php-page, which mails the email after sanitizing etc... I have to filter away spam etc so that my email-server don't get blacklisted or anything... I have my own server (VPS, Linux) and have thought about a solution... How does this sound to you: 1- Install a mail-server 2- Configure Firewall to ONLY allow connections to the mail-server from my website 3- Configure the mail-server so that a maximum of 'x' emails may be sent every 5 minutes or so 4- Create a php filter before sending the mail, which checks for 'bad' words. 5- If necessary, as last resort, ask the user a question (ex 5+5) before submitting form I would rather preferr if I didn't have to implement the 5th implementation above... What do you think? Also, another q I have that you may answer is: If an email-server gets blacklisted, is there any way to un-blacklist it? Or whats the solution if this happens? Thanks

    I have a "description textarea" inside a form where user may enter a description for an item. This is validated with javascript before the form beeing submitted. One of the validation-steps is this: else if (!fld.value.match(desExp)){ And desExp: var desExp = /^\s*(\w[^\w]*){3}.*$/gm; Now my problem, this works fine on all cases except for descriptions where the description BEGINS with a special character of the swedish language (å, ä, ö). This wont work: åäö hello world But this will: hello world åäö Any fixes? Thanks

    I have just ordered a VPS from my provider. I have some Q however... My website uses Solr, which requires the following according to their website: "Solr requires Java 1.5 and an Application server (such as Tomcat) which supports the Servlet 2.4 standard" I also need php 5, MySql, and the usual javascript etc... The OS is Ubuntu 9.10 1- So what do I need to install then? 2- What is a servlet container? 3- The solr I have downloaded came with Jetty. Is Jetty a Servlet container? Thanks

    function addOption(selectbox, val, txt){ ...... } addOption(list, "Cars", "Cars"); I need to add this in front of the text of the function: &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; So that there is space coming in before the option text...Never mind what it is for, it is just confusing... I just don't know how to insert it into the js code. If I do it like this: addOption(list, "Cars", "&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Cars"); Then the &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; comes into the text, so it gets displayed for the users. However I need it to be interpreted as "space"... If you don't understand let me know... How can I do this? Quotes, double quotes etc? Thanks

    According to this manual: http://us2.php.net/setcookie I have to set the cookie before anything else. The variables comes from a mysql_query and I have to do the query first. But then, if I do, I will get an error message: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by ... The error points to the line where I set the cookie above. What should I do?a

  • Php security question

    I have a linux server, and I am about to upload a classifieds website to it. The website is php based. That means php code adds/removes classifieds, with the help of the users offcourse. The php-code then adds/removes a classified to a database index called Solr (like MySql). Problem is that anybody can currently access the database, but I only want the website to access the database (solr). Solr is on port 8983 as standard btw. My Q is, if I add a rule in my firewall (iptables), to only allow connections coming from the servers IP to the Solr port nr, would this solve my issue? Thanks

  • Strange mod_rewrite problem; Website works partially

    I have Ubuntu 9.10 Server... I need to get mod_rewrite working... the mod_rewrite module IS LOADED. On my server, the httpd.conf is empty, instead everything (almost) is in a file called apache2.conf. Anyways, I have also read I have to change the AllowOverride None to AllowOverride All in some file... My httpd.conf is empty as you know, but I have a folder called sites-enabled which contains a 000-default file. This is where I have set: AllowOverride All Now my goal as I stated in the last Q is to turn this link: http://mydomain.com/ad.php?ad_id=Bmw_nice_M3_497379462 into this: http://mydomain.com/Bmw_nice_M3_497379462 So as I got an answer in the last Q i inserted this into the htaccess file: Options +FollowSymLinks Options +Indexes RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/ad\.php RewriteRule ^(.*)$ ad.php?ad_id=$1 [L] Now, this works (no fully) when entering the url manually in the adress bar, but my website isn't working now for some reason. It is like the website is locked down or something, and unless I change AllowOverride to None it will act like that. Any ideas why? Also another note, the links inside the rewritten url doesn't work properly (images are not shown, while some are shown)...

  • Placing .htaccess file in var/www folder messes my website up...

    I am playing with mod_rewrite now, and have successfully enabled it. However, I need to put a htaccess file inside var/www/ in order to achieve what I want, which is to rename Urls simply... When I place it my website becomes very strange and nothing basically works... Is there any code I need to put into the htaccess file in order for things to act normally? Here is the htaccess file I have so far: Options +FollowSymLinks Options +Indexes RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/ad\.php RewriteRule ^(.*)$ ad.php?ad_id=$1 [L] My DocumentRoot is also set to var/www/ and my entire website root is there... (index.html etc etc)... What am I missing about the htaccess? If you need more input let me know...

I have tried checking major websites like ebay, stackoverflow and others also, all with around 400 errors. So my first thought is, what good is that validator when it always displays errors? Secondly, will the errors affect my SERP ranking? ie, will me fixing these errors as good as I can increase my Google search position? Thanks

  • Uploading files wont work on production server

    I have a php script which uploads images to a temporary folder on the server. This works on my local computer with the local (virtual) server. (wampserver). However, on the production server (linux) I cant get it working. Everything is loading as it should, except for that the file doesn't show up on the server. My Q is, is there anything I should think about when moving to a production server with uploading images or files? I have set permissions on the folder where the images are supposed to go to 777 and also the php-code which uploads them to 777. Thanks

    I have a 'price' variable that contains some integer number from a MySQL database. I want to check how many numbers the 'price' variable contains, and add a space in the variable depending on how many numbers. See below: Example: If 'price' is 150000 I would like the output to be 150 000 (notice the space). OR, if it is 19000 I would like it to output 19 000... How would you do this the easiest way?

  • "Remember" last three MySql queries; Cookie, passed variable or other method?

    I have a classified website, with pretty sophisticated searching, and I am about to implement a function where the last three queries is displayed for the user, so that the user can go back easier through the queries. This because for each query the user has to provide a lot of input. I have four questions for you: I wonder, how can I save the actual query (SELECT * FROM etc etc)...? Do I need to add some form of encryption to be on the safe side? How will this affect performance? (I don't like the fact that cookies slow websites down) Anything else to think about?     I need a special regular expression, have no experience in them whatsoever so I am turning to you guys on this one: I need to validate a classifieds title field so it doesn't have any special characters in it, almost. Only letters and numbers should be allowed, and also the swedish three letters å, ä, ö, and also not case sensitive. Besides the above, these should also be allowed: The "&" sign. Parenthesis sign "()" Mathematical signs "-", "+", "%", "/", "*" Dollar and Euro signs Accent sign or whatever it's called, for example in "coupé" the apostrophe above the "e". Double quote and singel quote signs. The comma "," and point "." signs Thanks

  • Browser compatibility; Before or after uploading website to server?

    I am on the stage where I need to make my website cross-browser compatible. I need tips on how to get started. I have developed my website on firefox, so it works great with firefox. I guess I have to download a couple of versions of all major browsers now, right? Then just test each browser one by one? Should I do this before uploading the entire website onto a server or afterwards? All tips and SW which makes this easier is appreciated.   • How come this relative positioned div is displayed differently in IE?

    What is with these microsoft browsers? Does microsoft ever do a good job at anything... Anyways, I have a relative positioned div inside another div. The inside-div is positioned with percentage (left: 0%; top:13%). My problem is that in all IE versions the div is displayed some pixels further down than where it is displayed in Chrome, or FF... Anybody recognize this? <div class="nav_container" id="nav_container"> <div id="nav_container2" style="position: relative; left: 0%; top: 13%;"></div> </div> Also, I am just about to browser adjust my website so some article about most common problems with IE is appreciated.   • Very simple mod_rewrite questions

    1- Does mod_rewrite means that if I make this url: domain.com/ad.php?id=8498292 INTO domain.com/8498292 that all links on my website will have to be changed to the later above? example the link: domain.com/ad.php?id=8498292 wont work now, unless I replace it with domain.com/8498292 ? Or will the server know that they are the same still? 2- Will the rewritten link appear rewritten in the browsers adress bars also, so if I enter domain.com/ad.php?id=8498292 it will actually appear as domain.com/8498292 in the adress bar itself? 3- Will images and all other related links and material on the page whose link is rewritten remain intact? ie will pictures and links still work FROM that page which are relative?     If I need a php-page to have access to upload images and move images from a folder on the server, what permissions would I set on the folder then? I know we have "Owner", "Group", and "Others". But what does the server (or the php-code itself) count as? Owner? Also, would I need to set the php-page with the upload script with some specific permissions to be able to upload the files?     I need a formula for showing results on my classifieds website. I am now done with the paging of records, but this formula for showing results remains. I want it like this: Showing 1-50 of 123 found. Now what is the formula for this? I have these variables which should be enough I think: $results_per_page = 50; //results per page $page = 1; //current page Also a variable called $num_total contains the total nr of hits, in this case 123.     I have an optgroup like this: <optgroup label="Eller välj Län" title="Eller välj Län" style="background-color:#FC9;"> <option value="Blekinge Län">Blekinge</option> <option value="Dalarna Län">Dalarna</option> <option value="Gotlands Län">Gotland</option> </optgroup> Problem is, only in Firefox, the class applies to all options inside the optgroup. I need it to apply only to the optgroup label... Any ideas why? Thanks

  • Why isn't this message subject encoded properly? (php mail)

    I use this code to send an email: $headers="MIME-Version: 1.0"."\n"; $headers.="Content-type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8"."\n"; $headers.="From: $name <$email>"."\n"; mail($to, '=?UTF-8?B?'.base64_encode($subject).'?=', $text, $headers, '[email protected]'); If I use special characters Å Ä Ö from the swedish alphabet, they are not encoded properly, so they turn up like ö for ö. However, this doesn't happen if I change the $to variable to a gmail account email, then they are shown correctly. Anybody got any idea? Thanks UPDATE: When I echo $name, the name is displayed correctly, in utf8, with all special chars nicely shown.
