  • Macbook Pro keeps ejecting anything I put into the internal optical drive

    My hard disk crashed and I need to reinstall Mac OS X. I restart, insert the installation DVD, press c on the keyboard and the dvd ejects. I've tried different DVDs, even CDs. It's a Macbook Pro from march 2008. Is it broken? Or can it be something more severe like the firewire controller on the motherboard (since I noticed this after my hard drive started to act strangely)? I've ran Apple Hardware Test successfully.

  • Seek app to find dupes based on jpg metadata

    I'm dealing with a decade's worth of digital photos where I want to be sure i have one and only one of every .jpg is stored in my new master picture repository. I'm aggregating lots of backup CDs as archival hard drives - this means i can't trust the file date when checking for dupes. I need something that's able to look into the metadata within the jpg itself. thx

  • How to backup a folder and it's subfolders to CD/DVD

    If I've got a folder structure that I'd like to split so that it could be burned to multiple CDs or DVDs, what's the best tool out there to accomplish this? The folders/files have to be natively accessible once the split is done (no compression or physical splitting that would require a later join), and the folder structure should still remain intact as it spaces discs. Any ideas?

  • Can I rename the CD or DVD RW drive to meaning ful name

    I have 7 cd drives. Now i am writing the CDs using NTI MEdia Maker. The problem is all the drive have weird name in the writer like HL DVD RW S224 or something. IT is very hard to find which drive is which. Is there any way to define the Name liek Drive 1, Drive 2 so that in the writer the name come up like that so that if some cd fails to write i can find which drive is that

  • Sun Virtualbox: Cannot Install Windows 95 or 98

    I'm running XP and I've tried to install Windows 95 and 98 with the official CDs in Virtualbox. Both of them give the error: FATAL: no bootable medium found! System Halted I've mounted the CD drives within Virtualbox and also tried to change the boot order so that the CD drive is first but to no avail. I don't understand exactly what's going on here.

  • Is my DFD accurate?

    This is my first ever DFD that I made after my fair share of learning but I have no way of verifying whether it is correct or not. Although I have taken utmost care to make sure it is right, I may be wrong. Here is the scenario: Bebop Records is a mail-order company that distributes CDs and tapes at discount prices to record club members. When an order processing clerk receives an order form, he or she verifies that the sender is a club member by checking the Member file. If the sender is not a member, the clerk returns the order along with a membership application form. If the customer is a member, the clerk verifies the order item data by checking the Item file. Then the clerk enters the order data and saves it to the Daily Order file. The clerk also prints an invoice and shipping list for each order, which are forwarded to Order Fulfilment.   • unable to mount read-only DVD with photos

    I have a working Samsung CD/DVD player with (SATA connection) and i'm running latest updated version of 12.04. Audio CDs and video DVDs appear in the devices sidebar, but I have a DVD from a professional photographer with pictures of my daughter and friends which will just not open. When I try to mount in terminal I get the following message: mount: block device /dev/sr0 is write-protected, mounting read-only mount: you must specify the file system type I am assuming it's JPEG. What should I do next? I have looked through previous questions in this area but none seems to address this particular problem. Thanks for any help.

  • What's the best way of marketing to programmers?

    Disclaimer up front - I'm definitely not going to include any links in here - this question isn't part of my marketing! I've had a few projects recently where the end product is something that developers will use. In the past I've been on the receiving end of all sorts of marketing - as a developer I've gotten no end of junk - 1000s of pens, tee-shirts and mouse pads; enough CDs to keep my desk tea-free; some very useful USB keys with some logos I no longer recognise; a small forest's worth of leaflets; a bulging spam folder full of ignored emails, etc... So that's my question - What are good ways to market to developers? And as an aside - are developers the wrong people to target? - since we so often don't have a purchasing budget anyways!
