  • Dynamic SQL to generate column names?

    - by Ben McCormack
I have a query where I'm trying pivot row values into column names and currently I'm using SUM(Case...) As 'ColumnName' statements, like so: SELECT SKU1, SUM(Case When Sku2=157 Then Quantity Else 0 End) As '157', SUM(Case When Sku2=158 Then Quantity Else 0 End) As '158', SUM(Case When Sku2=167 Then Quantity Else 0 End) As '167' FROM OrderDetailDeliveryReview Group By OrderShipToID, DeliveryDate, SKU1 The above query works great and gives me exactly what I need. However, I'm writing out the SUM(Case... statements by hand based on the results of the following query: Select Distinct Sku2 From OrderDetailDeliveryReview Is there a way, using T-SQL inside a stored procedure, that I can dynamically generate the SUM(Case... statements from the Select Distinct Sku2 From OrderDetailDeliveryReview query and then execute the resulting SQL code?

  • Help with InvalidCastException

    - by Robert
    I have a gridview and, when a record is double-clicked, I want it to open up a new detail-view form for that particular record. As an example, I have created a Customer class: using System; using System.Data; using System.Configuration; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.ComponentModel; using System.Data.SqlClient; using System.Collections; namespace SyncTest { #region Customer Collection public class CustomerCollection : BindingListView<Customer> { public CustomerCollection() : base() { } public CustomerCollection(List<Customer> customers) : base(customers) { } public CustomerCollection(DataTable dt) { foreach (DataRow oRow in dt.Rows) { Customer c = new Customer(oRow); this.Add(c); } } } #endregion public class Customer : INotifyPropertyChanged, IEditableObject, IDataErrorInfo { private string _CustomerID; private string _CompanyName; private string _ContactName; private string _ContactTitle; private string _OldCustomerID; private string _OldCompanyName; private string _OldContactName; private string _OldContactTitle; private bool _Editing; private string _Error = string.Empty; private EntityStateEnum _EntityState; private Hashtable _PropErrors = new Hashtable(); public event PropertyChangedEventHandler PropertyChanged; private void FirePropertyChangeNotification(string propName) { if (PropertyChanged != null) { PropertyChanged(this, new PropertyChangedEventArgs(propName)); } } public Customer() { this.EntityState = EntityStateEnum.Unchanged; } public Customer(DataRow dr) { //Populates the business object item from a data row this.CustomerID = dr["CustomerID"].ToString(); this.CompanyName = dr["CompanyName"].ToString(); this.ContactName = dr["ContactName"].ToString(); this.ContactTitle = dr["ContactTitle"].ToString(); this.EntityState = EntityStateEnum.Unchanged; } public string CustomerID { get { return _CustomerID; } set { _CustomerID = value; FirePropertyChangeNotification("CustomerID"); } } public string CompanyName { get { return _CompanyName; } set { _CompanyName = value; FirePropertyChangeNotification("CompanyName"); } } public string ContactName { get { return _ContactName; } set { _ContactName = value; FirePropertyChangeNotification("ContactName"); } } public string ContactTitle { get { return _ContactTitle; } set { _ContactTitle = value; FirePropertyChangeNotification("ContactTitle"); } } public Boolean IsDirty { get { return ((this.EntityState != EntityStateEnum.Unchanged) || (this.EntityState != EntityStateEnum.Deleted)); } } public enum EntityStateEnum { Unchanged, Added, Deleted, Modified } void IEditableObject.BeginEdit() { if (!_Editing) { _OldCustomerID = _CustomerID; _OldCompanyName = _CompanyName; _OldContactName = _ContactName; _OldContactTitle = _ContactTitle; } this.EntityState = EntityStateEnum.Modified; _Editing = true; } void IEditableObject.CancelEdit() { if (_Editing) { _CustomerID = _OldCustomerID; _CompanyName = _OldCompanyName; _ContactName = _OldContactName; _ContactTitle = _OldContactTitle; } this.EntityState = EntityStateEnum.Unchanged; _Editing = false; } void IEditableObject.EndEdit() { _Editing = false; } public EntityStateEnum EntityState { get { return _EntityState; } set { _EntityState = value; } } string IDataErrorInfo.Error { get { return _Error; } } string IDataErrorInfo.this[string columnName] { get { return (string)_PropErrors[columnName]; } } private void DataStateChanged(EntityStateEnum dataState, string propertyName) { //Raise the event if (PropertyChanged != null && propertyName != null) { PropertyChanged(this, new PropertyChangedEventArgs(propertyName)); } //If the state is deleted, mark it as deleted if (dataState == EntityStateEnum.Deleted) { this.EntityState = dataState; } if (this.EntityState == EntityStateEnum.Unchanged) { this.EntityState = dataState; } } } } Here is my the code for the double-click event: private void customersDataGridView_CellDoubleClick(object sender, DataGridViewCellEventArgs e) { Customer oCustomer = (Customer)customersBindingSource.CurrencyManager.List[customersBindingSource.CurrencyManager.Position]; CustomerForm oForm = new CustomerForm(); oForm.NewCustomer = oCustomer; oForm.ShowDialog(this); oForm.Dispose(); oForm = null; } Unfortunately, when this code runs, I receive an InvalidCastException error stating "Unable to cast object to type 'System.Data.DataRowView' to type 'SyncTest.Customer'". This error occurs on the very first line of that event: Customer oCustomer = (Customer)customersBindingSource.CurrencyManager.List[customersBindingSource.CurrencyManager.Position]; What am I doing wrong?... and what can I do to fix this? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  • DataReader - hardcode ordinals?

    - by David Neale
When returning data from a DataReader I would typically use the ordinal reference on the DataReader to grab the relevant column: if (dr.HasRows) Console.WriteLine(dr[0].ToString()); (OR dr.GetString(0); OR (string)dr[0];)... I have always done this because I was advised at an early stage that using dr["ColumnName"] or a more elegant way of indexing causes a performance hit. However, whilst everything is becoming increasingly strongly-typed I feel more uncomfortable with this. I'm also aware that the above does not check for DBNull. How should data be returned from a DataReader?

  • Crystal report - Conversion from text to decimal ?

    - by 123rmn
I have a crystal report, which takes data from an XML template. For a particular field of report, say 'Cost' the database stored procedure send data to XSD file in decimal format , but when the crystal report displays data picking from XSD, it is rounded off. When i right click on other data fields of report, I can see 'Field:table1.columnname',. But when i click on 'Cost' field, it shows 'Text:'. To my understanding, this is a text field which is mapped to pick data from XSD and since the type is text, it gives result in text hence truncating the decimal. Please suggest how can I get decimals here. P.S: This code was created by someone else, so i have no idea on what they had set at that time. I have to fix it and i have no clue about it.

  • Bind Data to Multiple Labels From Multiple DataSources

    - by Steven
I have two AccessDataSources each returning one row. I want to use the data in each row to populate content on my page, so I figured I would use a Repeater or FormView. However, I would not necessarily want the labels bound to a particular DataSource placed together. For example, I might want labels from the following columns in order (DataSourceName.ColumnName): TestSetup.TestType, TestSummary.FormattedValue, TestSetup.DeviceChannel, TestSummary.CompletedOn. How do I handle this? Do I just have a separate Repeater/FormView for each value? Can I have both Repeater's/FormView's in 'scope' at the same time? Note: No language preference (C#/VB).

  • Style Data in a gridview which dynamically generates the columns

    - by Coesy
I have built a dynamic gridview using the following code grdVariants.Columns.Clear(); int i = 0; foreach (DataColumn column in options.Columns) { grdVariants.Columns.Add(new GridViewColumn { Header = column.ColumnName, DisplayMemberBinding = new Binding(string.Format("[{0}]", i++)) }); } This will dynamically generate my columns at runtime, I then bind the data using lstVariantsGrid.DataContext = options; lstVariantsGrid.Items.Refresh(); This all works great and shows the data in the correct columns etc, the only issue i have is that I can't style the rows like I would in xaml as it is all an unknown quantity until runtime. Can anyone offer some advice on how I might go about doing this? One of the biggest problems I have is that one of the columns needs to display the image rather than just the path which it currently shows, as well as fiddling with fonts and colors etc. Thanks for your time.

  • Change column names of a cube action as they appear in Visual Studio

    - by hermann
the title pretty much says it all. I have a cube with data in it and I have yet to find a way to change the column names. They appear in a very ugly manner like [cubeName].[$dimension.columnName]. I have tried everything I know and anything I found on the web but nothing seems to be working. What I tried to do in most cases is create an Action in the Actions tab and write some MDX query language in there. No results whatsoever. As if the action is never run. Does anyone know how to do this? I've spent about 3 days trying to figure this out. Thank you.

  • jpa join query on a subclass

    - by Brian
I have the following relationships in JPA (hibernate). Object X has two subclasses, Y and Z. Object A has a manyToOne relationship to object X. (Note, this is a one-sided relationship so object X cannot see object A). Now, I want to get the max value of a column in object A, but only where the relationship is of a specific subtype, ie...Y. So, that equates to...get the max value of column1 in object A, across all instances of A where they have a relationship with Y. Is this possible? I'm a bit lost as how to query it. I was thinking of something like: String query = "SELECT MAX(a.columnName) FROM A a join a.x; Query query = super.entityManager.createQuery(query); query.execute(); However that doesn't take account of the subclass of X...so I'm a bit lost. Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Gridview making a column invisable

    - by flyersun
Hi I have a grid view which is dynamically generated via C# using a DataSet. I'm passing a row ID field (from the database) to the grid view, as this is required when a user clicks to edit a records. However I don't want the user to be able to view the column. I have tried the following but it doesn’t seem to work? Could anyone suggest a way to hide the column or a better way of attaching the information to the grid view row so it can be used at a later stage. c# DataColumn ColImplantCustomerDetailsID = new DataColumn(); ColImplantCustomerDetailsID.ColumnName = "Implant ID"; ColImplantCustomerDetailsID.DataType = typeof(int); ColImplantCustomerDetailsID.Visable = false; <-- visable doens't work here. asp.net

  • Oracle: Finding Columns with only null values

    - by Jorge Valois
I have a table with a lot of columns and a type column. Some columns seem to be always empty for a specific type. I want to create a view for each type and only show the relevant columns for each type. Working under the assumption that if a column has ONLY null values for a specific type, then that columns should not be part of the view, how can you find that out with queries? Is there a SELECT [columnName] FROM [table] WHERE [columnValues] ARE ALL [null] I know I COMPLETELY made it all up above... I'm just trying to get the idea across. Thanks in advance!

  • LINQ to SQL, how to write a method which checks if a row exists when we have multiple tables

    - by Beles
    Hi, I'm trying to write a method in C# which can take as parameter a tabletype, column and a columnvalue and check if the got a row with a with value the method looks like: public object GetRecordFromDatabase(Type tabletype, string columnname, string columnvalue) I'm using LINQ to SQL and need to to this in a generic way so I don't need to write each table I got in the DB. I have been doing this so far for each table, but with more than 70 of these it becomes cumbersome and boring to do. Is there a way to generate the following code dynamically, And swap out the hardcoded tablenames with the values from the parameterlist? In this example I have a table in the DB named tbl_nation, which the DataContext pluralizes to tbl_nations, and I'm checking the column for the value if (DB.tbl_nations.Count(c => c.code.Equals(columnvalue)) == 1) { return DB.tbl_nations.Single(c => c.code.Equals(columnvalue)); }

  • LIKE and % Wildcard in Doctrine's findBy*()

    - by 01010011
Hi, How do I write the following MySQL query using Doctrine's findBy*() method?: SELECT column_name1, column_name2 FROM table_name WHERE column_name3 LIKE '%search_key%'; For Example, to fetch multiple rows from a column named "ColumnName" (below) using Doctrine: $users = Doctrine::getTable('User')->findByColumnName('active'); echo $users[0]->username; echo $users[1]->username; I tried: $search_key = 'some value'; $users = Doctrine::getTable('User')->findByColumnName('%$search_key%'); echo $users[0]->username; echo $users[1]->username; and I got no errors, but nothing displayed. Any assistance will be really appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  • SSIS code smell – Unused columns in the dataflow

    - by jamiet
A code smell is defined on Wikipedia as being a “symptom in the source code of a program that possibly indicates a deeper problem”. It’s a term commonly used by our code-writing brethren to describe sub-optimal code but I think the term can be applied equally well to SSIS packages too as I shall now explain One of my pet hates about SSIS development is packages that throw warnings of the form: The output column "ColumnName" (1358) on output "OLE DB Source Output" (1289) and component "OLE_SRC Name" (1279) is not subsequently used in the Data Flow task. Removing this unused output column can increase Data Flow task performance.  The warning is fairly self-explanatory – any column that appears in the data flow but doesn’t get used will throw this warning when the data flow is executed. Its not the negligible performance degradation that they cause that bothers me though, it’s the clutter that they cause in your log file/table. Take a look at the following screenshot if you don’t believe me: There are 231409 such warnings in the system that I took this screenshot from, that is 231409 log records that should not be there. The most infuriating thing about this warning is that it is so easily avoidable; eliminating such columns is a very quick and easy thing to do in the SSIS Designer. The only problem I see is that the warnings don’t occur until you execute the package – it would be preferable for the designer to have an unobtrusive way of informing you of them as well. Anyway, I digress… I consider such warnings to be a code smell because, to me, they’re symptomatic of a lack of due care and attention; a lack of developer discipline if you will. What other code smells can you think of when building SSIS packages? If I get a good list in the comments maybe I’ll compile them into a later blog post. @Jamiet Share this post: email it! | bookmark it! | digg it! | reddit! | kick it! | live it!

  • SQL SERVER – Tricks to Replace SELECT * with Column Names – SQL in Sixty Seconds #017 – Video

    - by pinaldave
You might have heard many times that one should not use SELECT * as there are many disadvantages to the usage of the SELECT *. I also believe that there are always rare occasion when we need every single column of the query. In most of the cases, we only need a few columns of the query and we should retrieve only those columns. SELECT * has many disadvantages. Let me list a few and remaining you can add as a comment.  Retrieves unnecessary columns and increases network traffic When a new columns are added views needs to be refreshed manually Leads to usage of sub-optimal execution plan Uses clustered index in most of the cases instead of using optimal index It is difficult to debug. There are two quick tricks I have discussed in the video which explains how users can avoid using SELECT * but instead list the column names. 1) Drag the columns folder from SQL Server Management Studio to Query Editor 2) Right Click on Table Name >> Script TAble AS >> SELECT To… >> Select option It is extremely easy to list the column names in the table. In today’s sixty seconds video, you will notice that I was able to demonstrate both the methods very quickly. From now onwards there should be no excuse for not listing ColumnName. Let me ask a question back – is there ever a reason to SELECT *? If yes, would you please share that as a comment. More on SELECT *: SQL SERVER – Solution – Puzzle – SELECT * vs SELECT COUNT(*) SQL SERVER – Puzzle – SELECT * vs SELECT COUNT(*) SQL SERVER – SELECT vs. SET Performance Comparison I encourage you to submit your ideas for SQL in Sixty Seconds. We will try to accommodate as many as we can. If we like your idea we promise to share with you educational material. • Sorting and Filtering By Model-Based LOV Display Value

    - by Steven Davelaar
If you use a model-based LOV and you use display type "choice", then ADF nicely displays the display value, even if the table is read-only. In the screen shot below, you see the RegionName attribute displayed instead of the RegionId. This is accomplished by the model-based LOV, I did not modify the Countries view object to include a join with Regions.  Also note the sort icon, the table is sorted by RegionId. This sorting typically results in a bug reported by your test team. Europe really shouldn't come before America when sorting ascending, right? To fix this, we could of course change the Countries view object query and add a join with the Regions table to include the RegionName attribute. If the table is updateable, we still need the choice list, so we need to move the model-based LOV from the RegionId attribute to the RegionName attribute and hide the RegionId attribute in the table. But that is a lot of work for such a simple requirement, in particular if we have lots of model-based choice lists in our view object. Fortunately, there is an easier way to do this, with some generic code in your view object base class that fixes this at once for all model-based choice lists that we have defined in our application. The trick is to override the method getSortCriteria() in the base view object class. By default, this method returns null because the sorting is done in the database through a SQL Order By clause. However, if the getSortCriteria method does return a sort criteria the framework will perform in memory sorting which is what we need to achieve sorting by region name. So, inside this method we need to evaluate the Order By clause, and if the order by column matches an attribute that has a model-based LOV choicelist defined with a display attribute that is different from the value attribute, we need to return a sort criterria. Here is the complete code of this method: public SortCriteria[] getSortCriteria() {   String orderBy = getOrderByClause();          if (orderBy!=null )   {     boolean descending = false;     if (orderBy.endsWith(" DESC"))      {       descending = true;       orderBy = orderBy.substring(0,orderBy.length()-5);     }     // extract column name, is part after the dot     int dotpos = orderBy.lastIndexOf(".");     String columnName = orderBy.substring(dotpos+1);     // loop over attributes and find matching attribute     AttributeDef orderByAttrDef = null;     for (AttributeDef attrDef : getAttributeDefs())     {       if (columnName.equals(attrDef.getColumnName()))       {         orderByAttrDef = attrDef;         break;       }     }     if (orderByAttrDef!=null && "choice".equals(orderByAttrDef.getProperty("CONTROLTYPE"))          && orderByAttrDef.getListBindingDef()!=null)     {       String orderbyAttr = orderByAttrDef.getName();       String[] displayAttrs = orderByAttrDef.getListBindingDef().getListDisplayAttrNames();       String[] listAttrs = orderByAttrDef.getListBindingDef().getListAttrNames();       // if first list display attributes is not the same as first list attribute, than the value       // displayed is different from the value copied back to the order by attribute, in which case we need to       // use our custom comparator       if (displayAttrs!=null && listAttrs!=null && displayAttrs.length>0 && !displayAttrs[0].equals(listAttrs[0]))       {                  SortCriteriaImpl sc1 = new SortCriteriaImpl(orderbyAttr, descending);         SortCriteria[] sc = new SortCriteriaImpl[]{sc1};         return sc;                           }     }     }   return super.getSortCriteria(); } If this method returns a sort criteria, then the framework will call the sort method on the view object. The sort method uses a Comparator object to determine the sequence in which the rows should be returned. This comparator is retrieved by calling the getRowComparator method on the view object. So, to ensure sorting by our display value, we need to override this method to return our custom comparator: public Comparator getRowComparator() {   return new LovDisplayAttributeRowComparator(getSortCriteria()); } The custom comparator class extends the default RowComparator class and overrides the method compareRows and looks up the choice display value to compare the two rows. The complete code of this class is included in the sample application.  With this code in place, clicking on the Region sort icon nicely sorts the countries by RegionName, as you can see below. When using the Query-By-Example table filter at the top of the table, you typically want to use the same choice list to filter the rows. One way to do that is documented in ADF code corner sample 16 - How To Customize the ADF Faces Table Filter. The solution in this sample is perfectly fine to use. This sample requires you to define a separate iterator binding and associated tree binding to populate the choice list in the table filter area using the af:iterator tag. You might be able to reuse the same LOV view object instance in this iterator binding that is used as view accessor for the model-bassed LOV. However, I have seen quite a few customers who have a generic LOV view object (mapped to one "refcodes" table) with the bind variable values set in the LOV view accessor. In such a scenario, some duplicate work is needed to get a dedicated view object instance with the correct bind variables that can be used in the iterator binding. Looking for ways to maximize reuse, wouldn't it be nice if we could just reuse our model-based LOV to populate this filter choice list? Well we can. Here are the basic steps: 1. Create an attribute list binding in the page definition that we can use to retrieve the list of SelectItems needed to populate the choice list <list StaticList="false" Uses="LOV_RegionId"               IterBinding="CountriesView1Iterator" id="RegionId"/>  We need this "current row" list binding because the implicit list binding used by the item in the table is not accessible outside a table row, we cannot use the expression #{row.bindings.RegionId} in the table filter facet. 2. Create a Map-style managed bean with the get method retrieving the list binding as key, and returning the list of SelectItems. To return this list, we take the list of selectItems contained by the list binding and replace the index number that is normally used as key value with the actual attribute value that is set by the choice list. Here is the code of the get method:  public Object get(Object key) {   if (key instanceof FacesCtrlListBinding)   {     // we need to cast to internal class FacesCtrlListBinding rather than JUCtrlListBinding to     // be able to call getItems method. To prevent this import, we could evaluate an EL expression     // to get the list of items     FacesCtrlListBinding lb = (FacesCtrlListBinding) key;     if (cachedFilterLists.containsKey(lb.getName()))     {       return cachedFilterLists.get(lb.getName());     }     List<SelectItem> items = (List<SelectItem>)lb.getItems();     if (items==null || items.size()==0)     {       return items;     }     List<SelectItem> newItems = new ArrayList<SelectItem>();     JUCtrlValueDef def = ((JUCtrlValueDef)lb.getDef());     String valueAttr = def.getFirstAttrName();     // the items list has an index number as value, we need to replace this with the actual     // value of the attribute that is copied back by the choice list     for (int i = 0; i < items.size(); i++)     {       SelectItem si = (SelectItem) items.get(i);       Object value = lb.getValueFromList(i);       if (value instanceof Row)       {         Row row = (Row) value;         si.setValue(row.getAttribute(valueAttr));                 }       else       {         // this is the "empty" row, set value to empty string so all rows will be returned         // as user no longer wants to filter on this attribute         si.setValue("");       }       newItems.add(si);     }     cachedFilterLists.put(lb.getName(), newItems);     return newItems;   }   return null; } Note that we added caching to speed up performance, and to handle the situation where table filters or search criteria are set such that no rows are retrieved in the table. When there are no rows, there is no current row and the getItems method on the list binding will return no items.  An alternative approach to create the list of SelectItems would be to retrieve the iterator binding from the list binding and loop over the rows in the iterator binding rowset. Then we wouldn't need the import of the ADF internal oracle.adfinternal.view.faces.model.binding.FacesCtrlListBinding class, but then we need to figure out the display attributes from the list binding definition, and possible separate them with a dash if multiple display attributes are defined in the LOV. Doable but less reuse and more work. 3. Inside the filter facet for the column create an af:selectOneChoice with the value property of the f:selectItems tag referencing the get method of the managed bean:  <f:facet name="filter">   <af:selectOneChoice id="soc0" autoSubmit="true"                       value="#{vs.filterCriteria.RegionId}">     <!-- attention: the RegionId list binding must be created manually in the page definition! -->                       <f:selectItems id="si0"                    value="#{viewScope.TableFilterChoiceList[bindings.RegionId]}"/>   </af:selectOneChoice> </f:facet> Note that the managed bean is defined in viewScope for the caching to take effect. • consume a .net webservice using jQuery

    - by Babunareshnarra
Implementation shows the way to consume web service using jQuery. The client side AJAX with HTTP POST request is significant when it comes to loading speed and responsiveness.Following is the service created that return's string in JSON.[WebMethod][ScriptMethod(ResponseFormat = ResponseFormat.Json)]public string getData(string marks){    DataTable dt = retrieveDataTable("table", @"              SELECT * FROM TABLE WHERE MARKS='"+ marks.ToString() +"' ");    List<object> RowList = new List<object>();    foreach (DataRow dr in dt.Rows)    {        Dictionary<object, object> ColList = new Dictionary<object, object>();        foreach (DataColumn dc in dt.Columns)        {            ColList.Add(dc.ColumnName,            (string.Empty == dr[dc].ToString()) ? null : dr[dc]);        }        RowList.Add(ColList);    }    JavaScriptSerializer js = new JavaScriptSerializer();    string JSON = js.Serialize(RowList);    return JSON;}Consuming the webservice $.ajax({    type: "POST",    data: '{ "marks": "' + val + '"}', // This is required if we are using parameters    contentType: "application/json",    dataType: "json",    url: "/dataservice.asmx/getData",    success: function(response) {               RES = JSON.parse(response.d);        var obj = JSON.stringify(RES);     }     error: function (msg) {                    alert('failure');     }});Remember to reference jQuery library on the page.
