  • FxCop / Code Analysis with VS2010 Ultimate

    - by Cuartico
I've getting some information about this, but I still can find a proper answer, I was asked recently in my company for this : "run a fxcop analysis on that code and tell me the results". Ok, I have VS2010 Ultimate which has code analysis, but before making any comment, I browse it on the internet cause I want to implement the best choice... So, let's say I'm gonna use the same rules on both analyzers: Should I recommend using one above the other? Should I say "hey, thats kinda old, let's use code analysis!" Should I get the same results on different computers? (for what I undersand, fxcop gives you some "points" and for what I've read, sometimes it gives you diff points on diff computers, I don't know about this with code analysis Thanks, any help would be appreciated

  • MVVM application architecture, where to put dependency injection configuration class, BusinessLayer and Common interfaces?

    - by gt.guybrush
Planning my architecture for an MVVM application I come to this: MyApp.UI View MyApp.BusinessLayer ViewModel MyApp.DataAccessLayer RepositoryImplEF MyApp.DomainLayer DomainObject RepositoryInterface MyApp.Common Logging Security Utility (contains some reflection method used by many levels) CustomException MyApp.UnitTest I was inspired by Domain-driven-desing, test-driven-development and onion architecture but not sure to have done all well. I am not sure of a couple of things: where to put dependency injection configuration class? In the common project? where to put BusinessLayer interfaces? in Domain layer? where to put Common interfaces? in Domain layer? But Common in referenced from domain (for some reflection utilities and for DI if the response to 1. is yes) and circular reference isn't good

  • Dependency Injection and decoupling of software layers

    - by cs31415
I am trying to implement Dependency Injection to make my app tester friendly. I have a rather basic doubt. Data layer uses SqlConnection object to connect to a SQL server database. SqlConnection object is a dependency for data access layer. In accordance with the laws of dependency injection, we must not new() dependent objects, but rather accept them through constructor arguments. Not wanting to upset the DI gods, I dutifully create a constructor in my DAL that takes in SqlConnection. Business layer calls DAL. Business layer must therefore, pass in SqlConnection. Presentation layer calls Business layer. Hence it too, must pass in SqlConnection to business layer. This is great for class isolation and testability. But didn't we just couple the UI and Business layers to a specific implementation of the data layer which happens to use a relational database? Why do the Presentation and Business layers need to know that the underlying data store is SQL? What if the app needs to support multiple data sources other than SQL server (such as XML files, Comma delimited files etc.) Furthermore, what if I add another object upon which my data layer is dependent on (say, a second database). Now, I have to modify the upper layers to pass in this new object. How can I avoid this merry-go-round and reap all the benefits of DI without the pain?

  • Unity 1.2 Dependency injection of internal types

    - by qvin
I have a facade in a library that exposes some complex functionality through a simple interface. My question is how do I do dependency injection for the internal types used in the facade. Let's say my C# library code looks like - public class XYZfacade:IFacade { [Dependency] internal IType1 type1 { get; set; } [Dependency] internal IType2 type2 { get; set; } public string SomeFunction() { return type1.someString(); } } internal class TypeA { .... } internal class TypeB { .... } And my website code is like - IUnityContainer container = new UnityContainer(); container.RegisterType<IType1, TypeA>(); container.RegisterType<IType2, TypeB>(); container.RegisterType<IFacade, XYZFacade>(); ... ... IFacade facade = container.Resolve<IFacade>(); Here facade.SomeFunction() throws an exception because facade.type1 and facade.type2 are null. Any help is appreciated.

  • C# function called after dependency property have been set

    - by mizipzor
My code currently looks like this: private Foo myFoo; public Foo CurrentFoo { get { return myFoo; } set { SetFoo(value); } } private void SetFoo(Foo newFoo) { // Do stuff // Here be dragons myFoo = newFoo; } To be able to bind it in XAML/WPF I need to turn Foo into a dependency property: public static DependencyProperty CurrentFooProperty = DependencyProperty.Register("CurrentFoo", typeof(Foo), typeof(FooHandler), new PropertyMetadata(false)); public Foo CurrentFoo { get { return (Foo)GetValue(CurrentFooProperty); } set { SetValue(CurrentFooProperty, value); } } Ive heard that you shouldnt do magic inside the actual C# property set {}, since it might not be called but the value is written directly to the dependency property. If this is false, let me know, it seems like the most obvious and simple route to take. I know I can add a validation function to the dependency property but I assume that it shouldnt be used for this? I need to communicate the change to legacy systems that cannot yet be bound in XAML. Whats the best way to approach this problem?

  • Dependency injection in C++

    - by Yorgos Pagles
This is also a question that I asked in a comment in one of Miško Hevery's google talks that was dealing with dependency injection but it got buried in the comments. I wonder how can the factory / builder step of wiring the dependencies together can work in C++. I.e. we have a class A that depends on B. The builder will allocate B in the heap, pass a pointer to B in A's constructor while also allocating in the heap and return a pointer to A. Who cleans up afterwards? Is it good to let the builder clean up after it's done? It seems to be the correct method since in the talk it says that the builder should setup objects that are expected to have the same lifetime or at least the dependencies have longer lifetime (I also have a question on that). What I mean in code: class builder { public: builder() : m_ClassA(NULL),m_ClassB(NULL) { } ~builder() { if (m_ClassB) { delete m_ClassB; } if (m_ClassA) { delete m_ClassA; } } ClassA *build() { m_ClassB = new class B; m_ClassA = new class A(m_ClassB); return m_ClassA; } }; Now if there is a dependency that is expected to last longer than the lifetime of the object we are injecting it into (say ClassC is that dependency) I understand that we should change the build method to something like: ClassA *builder::build(ClassC *classC) { m_ClassB = new class B; m_ClassA = new class A(m_ClassB, classC); return m_ClassA; } What is your preferred approach?

  • Source code dependency manager for C++

    - by 7vies
There are already some questions about dependency managers here, but it seems to me that they are mostly about build systems, while I am looking for something targeted purely at making dependency tracking and resolution simpler (and I'm not necessarily interested in learning a new build system). So, typically we have a project and some common code with another project. This common code is organized as a library, so when I want to get the latest code version for a project, I should also go get all the libraries from the source control. To do this, I need a list of dependencies. Then, to build the project I can reuse this list too. I've looked at Maven and Ivy, but I'm not sure if they would be appropriate for C++, as they look quite heavily java-targeted (even though there might be plugins for C++, I haven't found people recommending them). I see it as a GUI tool producing some standardized dependency list which can then be parsed by different scripts etc. It would be nice if it could integrate with source control (tag, get a tagged version with dependencies etc), but that's optional. Would you have any suggestions? Maybe I'm just missing something, and usually it's done some other way with no need for such a tool? Thanks.

  • MVC 3 beta + Dependency Resolver + Unity = got problem

    - by drsim
Hi everyone. I'm tried to use Dependency Resolver with Unity, and got some problem when my Controller creating. Here example of controller: public class AccountController : Controller { private readonly ICourseService _courseService; public AccountController(ICourseService courseService) { _courseService = courseService; } } But, when Controller try to create - i got an exception "No parameterless constructor defined for this object." I even try to add default constructor for this controller, but courseService didn't create. Also try to add property with [Dependency] attribute - nothing happened. Here is Dependency Resolver class: public class UnityDependencyResolver : IDependencyResolver { private readonly IUnityContainer _container; public UnityDependencyResolver(IUnityContainer container) { _container = container; } public object GetService(Type serviceType) { return _container.IsRegistered(serviceType) ? _container.Resolve(serviceType) : null; } public IEnumerable<object> GetServices(Type serviceType) { return _container.IsRegistered(serviceType) ? _container.ResolveAll(serviceType) : new List<object>(); } } and Global.asax.cs: protected void Application_Start() { AreaRegistration.RegisterAllAreas(); RegisterGlobalFilters(GlobalFilters.Filters); RegisterRoutes(RouteTable.Routes); var container = new UnityContainer(); container.RegisterType<ICourseService, CourseService>(); DependencyResolver.SetResolver(new UnityDependencyResolver(container)); } Can anyone help me ?

  • Dependency Properties and Data Context in Silverlight 3

    - by Noam
    Hello, I am working with Silverlight 3 beta, and am having an issue. I have a page that has a user control that I worte on it. The user control has a dependency property on it. If the user control does not define a data context (hence using the parent's data context), all works well. But if the user control has its own data context, the dependency property's OnPropertyChanged method never gets called. Here is a sample: My Main Page: <UserControl x:Class="TestDepProp.MainPage" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:app="clr-namespace:TestDepProp" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" Width="400" Height="100"> <Grid x:Name="LayoutRoot" Background="White"> <Border BorderBrush="Blue" BorderThickness="3" CornerRadius="3"> <StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal"> <StackPanel Orientation="Vertical"> <TextBlock Text="Enter text here:" /> <TextBox x:Name="entryBlock" Text="{Binding Data, Mode=TwoWay}"/> <Button Content="Go!" Click="Button_Click" /> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Data}" /> </StackPanel> <Border BorderBrush="Blue" BorderThickness="3" CornerRadius="3" Margin="5"> <app:TestControl PropOnControl="{Binding Data}" /> </Border> </StackPanel> </Border> </Grid> </UserControl> Main Page code: using System.Windows; using System.Windows.Controls; namespace TestDepProp { public partial class MainPage : UserControl { public MainPage() { InitializeComponent(); MainPageData data = new MainPageData(); this.DataContext = data; } private void Button_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { int i = 1; i++; } } } Main Page's data context: using System.ComponentModel; namespace TestDepProp { public class MainPageData:INotifyPropertyChanged { string _data; public string Data { get { return _data; } set { _data = value; if (PropertyChanged != null) PropertyChanged(this, new PropertyChangedEventArgs("Data")); } } public MainPageData() { Data = "Initial Value"; } #region INotifyPropertyChanged Members public event PropertyChangedEventHandler PropertyChanged; #endregion } } Control XAML: <UserControl x:Class="TestDepProp.TestControl" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:app="clr-namespace:TestDepProp" > <Grid x:Name="LayoutRoot" Background="White"> <StackPanel Orientation="Vertical" Margin="10" > <TextBlock Text="This should change:" /> <TextBlock x:Name="ControlValue" Text="Not Set" /> </StackPanel> </Grid> </UserControl> Contol code: using System.Windows; using System.Windows.Controls; namespace TestDepProp { public partial class TestControl : UserControl { public TestControl() { InitializeComponent(); // Comment out next line for DP to work DataContext = new MyDataContext(); } #region PropOnControl Dependency Property public string PropOnControl { get { return (string)GetValue(PropOnControlProperty); } set { SetValue(PropOnControlProperty, value); } } public static readonly DependencyProperty PropOnControlProperty = DependencyProperty.Register("PropOnControl", typeof(string), typeof(TestControl), new PropertyMetadata(OnPropOnControlPropertyChanged)); private static void OnPropOnControlPropertyChanged(DependencyObject d, DependencyPropertyChangedEventArgs e) { TestControl _TestControl = d as TestControl; if (_TestControl != null) { _TestControl.ControlValue.Text = e.NewValue.ToString(); } } #endregion PropOnControl Dependency Property } } Control's data context: using System.ComponentModel; namespace TestDepProp { public class MyDataContext : INotifyPropertyChanged { #region INotifyPropertyChanged Members public event PropertyChangedEventHandler PropertyChanged; #endregion } } To try it out, type something in the text box, and hit the Go button. Comment out the data context in the controls code to see that it starts to work. Hope someone has an idea as to what is going on.

  • Visual Studio Code Analysis: CA0001 Error Running Code Analysis - object reference not set to an instance of an object

    - by sturdytree
For a WPF application being developed in VS 2012 (Ultimate), the application runs fine when a particular project's code analysis is disabled. Enabling it results in the error above. This was working fine until recently (i.e. running with code analysis enabled for the particular project) and the only recent change I can think of is removing NHibernate Profiler (using NuGet). Will be grateful for any pointers on how to debug this, or to see a more detailed log/error message.

  • Code Analysis In Python

    - by Jerub
What tools are good to use for code analysis in python? I have a large source repository split across multiple projects, and I would like to be able to run tools across the directories to see details like Cyclomatic Complexity, and perhaps be able to spot errors using static analysis. Ideally, I would like to be able to produce a report about the health of the source code, so we can spot problem areas that need to be addressed.

  • SQL Server Analysis Services, DNS, AD, Kerberos, Connection Issues

    - by ScaleOvenStove
Running into a very weird issue. Converting servers to Windows 2008/SQL 2008. Have a server, SERVER_A, brand new, setup with Win2k8,Sql2k8 - works. Have a Server SERVER_B, running Windows2003/SQL2005. I want to migrate from SERVER_B to SERVER_A. I have all db's, cubes, etc setup on SERVER_A and it is mimicking functionality. Since users are using Excel to connect to SSAS, they connection string has SERVER_B in it. What I want to do, is, change DNS on the network to point SERVER_B (by name) at the ip of SERVER_A. I have successfully done this with another server, SERVER_C, but I need to do it with SERVER_B. What I have found is that with SERVER_C, after changing DNS, had to remove SERVER_C from AD and then it worked. I could connect to SERVER_C (DB), SERVER_C (SSAS Default Instance) and SERVER_C (SSAS Named instance) and it all was actually connecting to SERVER_A I tried to do the same with with SERVER_B, and no luck. Changed DNS, removed from AD, and it wouldn't connect. Found out that there were some SPN's in AD set up, so removed those and tried again. I then could connect to SERVER_B (DB), SERVER_B (SSAS Named Instance), but not SERVER_B (SSAS Default Instance). I could connect to SERVER_B (SSAS Default Intance WITH the Port #), but I need to be able to connect without the port number. I am at a loss to as why I can't connect to the default instance without a port #. Not sure if it is SPN's in AD, or another AD issue, or something else. Pretty sure it isnt something on the server (because SERVER_C works!) Any insight or suggestions would be greatly helpful!!

  • apache log analysis tools for multiple virtual hosts?

    - by shreddd
I am interested in trying to get a side by side usage comparison of all the virtual hosts being served up by my apache server. In the simplest case, I want to see a list (or bar chart) with each virtual host and the number of requests/traffic on that site. I've been playing around with webalyzer and awstats but I haven't been able to compare multiple virtual hosts in the same infographic. Anyone have any suggestions on tools for doing this (or how I might use the above tools to do so)?

  • Text tagging/analysis tool for Mac

    - by Mark Porter
I'm a doctoral student doing research in the humanities. As part of my research I have gathered together a lot of interview text. To analyse this data I want to be able to easily tag sections of text with keywords (the tags need to be able to overlap, and perhaps be organised hierarchically) and later be able to collate those sections from across multiple files. I need to be able to do this on a Mac. It feels like a simple task but I can't find any software for doing it that isn't either horribly clunky or a massive overkill worth hundreds of pounds. Is there any good software for doing this, or are there any good ways of doing it with other software?

  • Dependency Injection: where to store dependencies used by only one method?

    - by simoneL
I developing a project integrated with Dependency Injection (just for reference, I'm using Unity). The problem is that I have some Manager classes with several methods and in many cases I have dependencies used only in one method. public class UserManager : IUserManager { private UserRepository UserRepository {get;set;} private TeamRepository TeamRepository {get;set;} private CacheRepository CacheRepository {get;set;} private WorkgroupRepository WorkgroupRepository {get;set;} public UserManager(UserRepository userRepository, TeamRepository teamRepository, CacheRepository cacheRepository , WorkgroupRepository workgroupRepository, ... // Many other dependencies ) { UserRepository = userRepository; TeamRepository = teamRepository; CacheRepository = cacheRepository ; WorkgroupRepository = workgroupRepository; ... // Setting the remaining dependencies } public void GetLatestUser(){ // Uses only UserRepository } public void GetUsersByTeam(int teamID){ // Uses only TeamRepository } public void GetUserHistory(){ // Uses only CacheRepository } public void GetUsersByWorkgroup(int workgroupID){ // Uses only workgroupRepository } } The UserManager is instantiated in this way: DependencyFactory<IUserManager>(); Note: DependencyFactory is just a wrapper to simplify the access to the UnityContainer Is it OK to have classes like that in the example? Is there a better way to implement avoiding to instantiate all the unnecessary dependencies?

  • Dependency Injection Constructor Madness

I find that my constructors are starting to look like this: public MyClass(Container con, SomeClass1 obj1, SomeClass2, obj2.... ) with ever increasing parameter list. Since "Container" is my dependency injection container, why can't I just do this: public MyClass(Container con) for every class? What are the downsides? If I do this, it feels like I'm using a glorified static. Please share your thoughts on IoC and Dependency Injection madness. Thanks in advance. -JP

  • Dependency Injection book recommendation(s)

    - by Portman
It seems like there are very few books (yes, I read books) on Dependency Injection. The Amazon tag for "dependency injection" lists only a few titles, and all of them are specifically about Spring for Java. Are there any books out there that cover DI/IoC in general? Or any that include a survey of multiple DI frameworks? Or any that cover .NET in lieu of or in addition to Java? Or do we have to rely on this newfangled interweb instead of dead trees...

  • Delayed "rendering" of WPF/Silverlight Dependency Properties?

    - by Aardvark
Is there a way to know the first time a Dependency Property is accessed through XAML binding so I can actually "render" the value of the property when needed? I have an object (class derived from Control) that has several PointCollection Dependency Properties that may contain 100's or 1000's of points. Each property may arrange the points differently for use in different types shapes (Polyline, Polygon, etc - its more complicated then this, but you get the idea). Via a Template different XAML objects use TemplateBinding to access these properties. Since my object uses a Template I never know what XAML shapes may be in use for my object - so I never know what Properties they may or may not bind to. I'd like to only fill-in these PointCollections when they are actually needed. Normally in .NET I'd but some logic in the Property's getter, but these are bypassed by XAML data binding. I need a WPF AND Silverlight compatible solution. I'd love a solution that avoids any additional complexities for the users of my object.

  • WPF dependency property setter not firing when PropertyChanged is fired, but source value is not cha

    - by Sandor Davidhazi
I have an int dependency property on my custom Textbox, which holds a backing value. It is bound to an int? property on the DataContext. If I raise the PropertyChanged event in my DataContext, and the source property's value is not changed (stays null), then the dependency property's setter is not fired. This is a problem, because I want to update the custom Textbox (clear the text) on PropertyChanged, even if the source property stays the same. However, I didn't find any binding option that does what I want (there is an UpdateSourceTrigger property, but I want to update the target here, not the source). Maybe there is a better way to inform the Textbox that it needs to clear its text, I'm open to any suggestions.

  • How to use Dependency Injection with ASP.NET

    - by Schneider
I am trying to work out a way to use Dependency Injection with ASP.NET controls. I have got lots of controls that create repositories directly, and use those to access and bind to data etc. I am looking for a pattern where I can pass repositories to the controls externally (IoC), so my controls remain unaware of how repositories are constructed and where they come from etc. I would prefer not to have a dependency on the IoC container from my controls, therefore I just want to be able to construct the controls with constructor or property injection. (And just to complicate things, these controls are being constructed and placed on the page by a CMS at runtime!) Any thoughts?
