  • What is a "Public DNS registered IP address"?

    I've been reading this ICANN agreement on new TLDs and it has this section on DNS service availability, which i don't completely understand: Refers to the ability of the group of listed-as-authoritative name servers of a particular domain name (e.g., a TLD), to answer DNS queries from DNS probes. For the service to be considered available at a particular moment, at least, two of the delegated name servers registered in the DNS must have successful results from “DNS tests” to each of their public-DNS registered “IP addresses” to which the name server resolves. If 51% or more of the DNS testing probes see the service as unavailable during a given time, the DNS service will be considered unavailable. I'm not 100% sure of the part in bold: does "public" refer to the DNS or to the IP addesses? It looks like there's a mistake and that the hyphen should have been after "DNS". So basically does it mean "the public IP addresses registered in the DNS"?

  • Folder missing in external hard drive

    I have been backing up my folders, I am using Seagate Expansion portable Drive. I had created a folder called "|o|o" in the root folder of the portable drive... I copied my latest folders into "|o|o" folder to re-install ubuntu. When I open the portable drive the folder |o|o is not visible, when I ctrl+a and check properties the space used is 122GB, however when I click on the drive to view properties of the drive used space is 260GB. It looks as if the folder is there in the portable drive but I cannot access it... I have tried to view all the hidden files and "|o|o" is still not there. I am using 12.04.Can you please help me to retrieve this folder.

    Hello, I currently host 5 websites within a dedicated server I own. I have several questions: Does it matter if I host all my sites on 100.100.100.100 (the server's IP for example) or if I split them into 100.100.100.100, 100.100.100.101 ... 100.100.100.104 (that is, each site on its own IP). Does it matter if I use a C-Class for each website? Do search engines really care if your site has its own c-class? Do search engines penalize a website if it moves its IP? Thanks, Joel

  • External Hard disk not workng on windows after I formatted it on Ubuntu

    I formatted my Western Digital 500 Gb hard disk on Ubuntu 10.4 and now I want to use it on Windows 7 but it cannot detect it. I formatted it with FAT(applicable to all) option. I tried to Google this problem a bit and as suggested by one of the site i tried to format this drive with NTFS. Still windows cannot detect it. Drives in windows 7 is not a problem because I tried a different usb drive on it and it works. I can see the led of the drive glow when I connect it and I can also see remove drive safely option in lower right corner, but i cannot see any option in "my computer" to access the hard disk. I am new to Ubuntu. Any help is appreciated.

  • Laptop screen is cracked, external monitor only mirroring the broken laptop screen

    I did something stupid. When my Dell Vostro 1000 laptop screen cracked and went all crazy and I couldn't see anything, I attached it to an external monitor and pressed Fn + F5 and it worked. But then I did something in the control panel that made the external screen look similar to the laptop screen. That made the external screen completely unusable too. In the control panel it was the last tab – something with "dual screens" I think. Is there anyway to reverse what did, turn off the laptop screen permanently and turn the external monitor into the primary? Remember that I can't see anything on the laptop screen. It is a complete goner – and because of what I did I can't see anything on the external monitor.

    I purchased a new Mac mini server, since my old iMac, which was a server pretty much died. My problem is this. How do I change my internal IP address for my mac mini server to a static address, like 192.168.0.2? Before you guys harp on me, my old server was running Ubuntu Hardy and I only had to map the IP address in the router, which would automatically assign the reserved address through DHCP. Now, I know things are different between the two, but my problem is that the mac is not accepting the assigned IP address or the router just is not assigning. However, every time I have manually changed it on the Mac to an address of my choice, it takes the computer off the Internet. My router is a NetGear WTG624 v2, I believe. I need this to work, so I can utilize Dynamic DNS.

    Ok folks I have bombed around for a few days trying to find a good solution for this one. What I have is two possible address formats. 28 Main St Somecity, NY 12345-6789 or Main St Somecity, Ny 12345-6789 What I need to do Is split both strings down into an array structured as such address[0] = HousNumber address[1] = Street address[2] = City address[3] = State address[4] = ZipCode My major problem is how to account for the lack of a house number. with out having the whole array shift the data up one. address[0] = Street address[1] = City address[2] = State address[3] = ZipCode [Edit] For those that are wondering this is what i am doing atm .   • Not able to access external Hard disk

    I have a 1TB External Hard drive which I'm currently not able to access. When I open the External drive in Finder, It shows it's empty. When I use the option to "Get Info", I get the dialog box stating it has about 300GB Free. Tried to get into the External Drive using Terminal, I had no luck. Checking in Disk Utility, It showed that I have many number of files but ZERO folder. I tried to "repair disk", in the process the external Drive got unmounted in between the process. I checked this drive on Windows. I was able to open almost all the folders but I wasn't able to copy anything onto the external drive. One folder caused my windows computer to hang, So i connected the drive back onto my MacBook Pro and tried to access the drive through terminal (this time it worked!) and then I tried to delete the folder with rm command, I got an "input/output error" What should i do to recover the files in that folder? How can i access my external drive on my mac

    With IP options we can specify the route we want an IP packet to take while connecting to a server. If we know that a particular server provides some extra functionality based on the IP address can we not utilize this by spoofing an IP packet so that the source IP address is the privileged IP address and one of the hosts on the Source Routing is our own. So if the privileged IP address is x1 and server IP address is x2 and my own IP address is x3. I send a packet from x1 to x2 which is supposed to pass through x3. x1 does not actually send the packet. It is just that x2 thinks the packet came from x1 via x3. Now in response if x2 uses the same routing policy (as a matter of courtesy to x1) then all packets would be received by x3. Will the destination typically use the same IP address sequences as specified in the routing header so that packets coming from the server pass through my IP where I can get the required information? Can we not spoof a TCP connection in the above case? Is this attack used in practice?

I have a custom LDAP server, which I can customize to generate whichever object class and attributes I need. I'm trying to display people from that server in the Mac OS X address book. Names and organizations display correctly, as well as work-related phone and address. However, I've never been able to have a home address displayed in the address book.     Can Isc-dhcp-server give two static ip addresses to one mac address? I have several home terminals in my network. Each terminal have two interfaces. One for public traffic and one for a management traffic. Both interfaces have same mac address. DHCP server can detect interfaces via dhcp option field and dhcp class declarations. Every terminal have to have static ip address instead of dynamic address. With dynamic address and dynamic pools this would be an easy task. Or is there any dhcp server that can do this?

    My new notebook has been dropping the WiFi connection infrequently. The reason was, that my PS3 had the same MAC address. I changed the MAC address of my notebook and the WiFi is now stable. At first I just reduced the address' last block by 1, which happened to be the MAC address of another device. I reduced it again and for now it's fine. In order to avoid conflicts in the future, is there an address range that is safe to use for custom/non-vendor MAC addresses?

  • Disable laptop's display on boot when used with external display

    I keep my laptop tucked away and solely use an external display with it via HDMI. In Windows 7 display settings, I have it set up to "Show desktop only on 2 [my external display]" This works fine in all cases except when I boot the laptop when the external display is already connected. In that case, the laptop's display stays on and sticks at the Windows 7 boot logo unless I manually shut the display off. (I should mention that while the laptop's display is stuck at the boot logo, the external monitor and computer are running just fine.) The laptop is an Asus N56VZ with Nvidia 650m graphics and the latest drivers. I've checked Nvidia's control panel as well as the BIOS and nothing looked very promising. Any ideas as to how I can get my laptop screen to shut itself off after booting into Windows?

MySQL service stoped and we could not reach the server. Then we opened the storage unit and we could not start service until we reconfigured MySQL. We made storage unit offline from operating system. After 3-4 minutes and some insert trials(some insert trials succeded) MySQL service stoped and we could not reach the server. Then we made storage unit online and we could start the service(not automatically). In Windows Server 2003 We made storage unit offline. After 3-4 minutes and some insert trials(some insert trials succeded) MySQL service stoped and we could not reach the server. Then we made storage unit online we could not start the service until we reinstalled MySQL. Before reinstall we tried to reconfigure but it did not work. We closed external storage physically. MySQL service stoped and we could not reach the server. After that we opened the storage unit and we could start service(not automatically) We expect service to autostart after storage unit is online/open. But these tests show unstable behaviors. Is there any solutions to this.

And then i have, let's say a legacy server, with external ip ip2, which sends data to ip1 (and I have another server on ip1 behind the sonicwall which receives and processes that data). I would like to set up a new server on a different external ip ip3 that will receive and process data from the legacy server.     Is there any value in getting an external hard drive with a grounded power supply? Would grounding the drive protect it from a static jolt from my hand when I pick it up? I've only really ever used the huge 5.25" external housings (they usually have an integrated power supply and use the standard heavy PSU cable with ground), and I need some more but noticed while shopping that the current trend is towards smaller enclosures with the external brick (and hardly ever grounded).

    I cloned my windows 7 installation on c: to external hard drive. I applied usb patch using pwboot and i could successfully boot into windows. But My problem is even though i am booting in to external hd the file reference and system path is pointing to c: on my internal hard disk. If i remove internal hd and boot it will get stuck at login screen. Is there any way i can force drive letter c: to my boot partition on external hd while booting from it.

  • Why are the external IP of my router not the same as the external IP of my computer

    I have a standard network setup where all my network devices, both WIFI and ethernet, are connected to the same router. Lately, however, I've been experiencing some very strange behavior. It started as a simple connecting error, when I tried to reach an FTP server using the external IP. Of course I went right into one of those CheckMyIP sites, to double check the IP and it turned out to be correct. Then I went into my router setup, which is through a tool called aiport-tool, because I have an Apple Aiport Extreme router. Turns out the router displays a different external IP, and for some reason that external IP works when I try to access the FTP server. Can anyone explain what is going on? Why are the devices connected to the router displaying an incorrect external IP? BTW i have no VPN/proxy setups on any of my devices.
