• Windows 7 - User-specific %PATH%

  I'd like to set up a system for Windows 7 where each user has their own private directory in %PATH%. I tried setting %PATH% to %HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH%\Bin;%SystemRoot%\System32;[...] but it doesn't seem to work. For those who don't realize what I'm trying to do, it's sort of like EXPORT PATH=~/bin would be on *nix. It can be on a user specific basis if need be (and that would actually be prefer to the machine-wide settings).

• PHP File Upload second file does not upload, first file does without error

  So I have a script I have been using and it generally works well with multiple files... When I upload a very large file in a multiple file upload, only the first file is uploaded. I am not seeing an errors as to why. I figure this is related to a timeout setting but can not figure it out - Any ideas? • scp No such file or directory

  I've a confusing question for which superuser doesn't seem to have a good answer, and neither google. I'm trying to scp a file from a remote server to my local machine. The command is this scp user@server:/path/to/source/file.gz /path/to/destination The error I get is: scp: /path/to/source/file.gz: No such file or directory user is my username on the server. The command syntax appears fine to me. ssh works fine and I can cd to the file and it doesn't seem to be an access control issue? Thanks; Edit: Thank you John. I spotted the issue. ls returned this: -r--r--r-- 1 nobody users 168967171 Mar 10 2009 /path/to/source/file.gz So, the file was on a read-only file system and user is able to read it but not scp. I just copied the file to a different directory and chown it and worked fine. It would be good if someone can explain why this is the case though.

• Could I do this blind relative to absolute path conversion (for perforce depot paths) better?

  I need to "blindly" (i.e. without access to the filesystem, in this case the source control server) convert some relative paths to absolute paths. So I'm playing with dotdots and indices. For those that are curious I have a log file produced by someone else's tool that sometimes outputs relative paths, and for performance reasons I don't want to access the source control server where the paths are located to check if they're valid and more easily convert them to their absolute path equivalents. I've gone through a number of (probably foolish) iterations trying to get it to work - mostly a few variations of iterating over the array of folders and trying delete_at(index) and delete_at(index-1) but my index kept incrementing while I was deleting elements of the array out from under myself, which didn't work for cases with multiple dotdots. Any tips on improving it in general or specifically the lack of non-consecutive dotdot support would be welcome. Currently this is working with my limited examples, but I think it could be improved. It can't handle non-consecutive '..' directories, and I am probably doing a lot of wasteful (and error-prone) things that I probably don't need to do because I'm a bit of a hack. I've found a lot of examples of converting other types of relative paths using other languages, but none of them seemed to fit my situation. • Python os.path.join on Windows

  I am trying to learn python and am making a program that will output a script. I want to use os.path.join, but am pretty confused. According to the docs if I say: os.path.join('c:', 'sourcedir') I get "C:sourcedir". According to the docs, this is normal, right? But when I use the copytree command, Python will output it the desired way, for example: import shutil src = os.path.join('c:', 'src') dst = os.path.join('c':', 'dst') shutil.copytree(src, dst) Here is the error code I get: WindowsError: [Error 3] The system cannot find the path specified: 'C:src/*.*' If I wrap the os.path.join with os.path.normpath I get the same error. If this os.path.join can't be used this way, then I am confused as to its purpose. According to the pages suggested by Stack Overflow, slashes should not be used in join—that is correct, I assume?

• Designing status management for a file processing module

  The background One of the functionality of a product that I am currently working on is to process a set of compressed files ( containing XML files ) that will be made available at a fixed location periodically (local or remote location - doesn't really matter for now) and dump the contents of each XML file in a database. I have taken care of the design for a generic parsing module that should be able to accommodate the parsing of any file type as I have explained in my question linked below. There is no need to take a look at the following link to answer my question but it would definitely provide a better context to the problem Generic file parser design in Java using the Strategy pattern The Goal I want to be able to keep a track of the status of each XML file and the status of each compressed file containing the XML files. I can probably have different statuses defined for the XML files such as NEW, PROCESSING, LOADING, COMPLETE or FAILED. I can derive the status of a compressed file based on the status of the XML files within the compressed file. e.g status of the compressed file is COMPLETE if no XML file inside the compressed file is in a FAILED state or status of the compressed file is FAILED if the status of at-least one XML file inside the compressed file is FAILED. A possible solution The Model I need to maintain the status of each XML file and the compressed file. I will have to define some POJOs for holding the information about an XML file as shown below. • C# "Could not find a part of the path" - Creating Local File

  I am trying to write to a folder that is located on my C:\ drive. I keep getting the error of : Could not find a part of the path .. etc My filepath looks basically like this : C:\WebRoot\ManagedFiles\folder\thumbs\5c27a312-343e-4bdf-b294-0d599330c42d\Image\lighthouse.jpg And I am writing to it like so : using (MemoryStream memoryStream = new MemoryStream()) { thumbImage.Save(memoryStream, ImageFormat.Jpeg); using (FileStream diskCacheStream = new FileStream(cachePath, FileMode.CreateNew)) { memoryStream.WriteTo(diskCacheStream); } memoryStream.WriteTo(context.Response.OutputStream); } Don't worry too much about the memory stream. It is just outputting it (After I save it). Since I am creating a file, I am a bit perplexed as to why it cannot find the file (Shouldn't it just write to where I tell it to, regardless?). The strange thing is, It has no issue when I'm testing it above using File.Exists. Obviously that is returning false, But it means that atleast my Filepath is semi legit. Any help is much appreciated.

• batch file infinite loop when parsing file

  Okay, this should be a really simple task but its proving to be more complicated than I think it should be. I'm clearly doing something wrong, and would like someone else's input. What I would like to do is parse through a file containing paths to directories and set permissions on those directories. An example line of the input file. There are several lines, all formatted the same way, with a different path to a directory. E:\stuff\Things\something else (X)\ (The file in question is generated under Cygwin using find to list all directories with "(X)" in the name. The file is then passed through unix2win to make it windows compatible. I've also tried manually creating the input file from within windows to rule out the file's creation method as the problem.) Here's where I'm stuck... I wrote the following quick and dirty batch file in Windows XP and it worked without any issues at all, but it will not work in server 2k8. Batch file code to run through the file and set permissions: FOR /F "tokens=*" %%A IN (dirlist.txt) DO echo y| cacls "%%A" /T /C /G "Domain Admins":f "Some Group":f "some-security-group":f What this is SUPPOSED to do (and does in XP) is loop through the specified file (dirlist.txt) and run cacls.exe on each directory it pulls from the file. The "echo y|" is in there to automagically confirm when cacls helpfully asks "are you sure?" for every directory in the list. Unfortunately, however, what it DOES is fall into an infinite loop. I've tried surrounding everything after "DO" with quotes, which prevents the endless loop but confuses cacls so it throws an error. Interestingly, I've tried running the code from after "DO" manually (obviously replacing the variable with the full path, copied straight from the file) at a command prompt and it runs as expected. I don't think it's the file or the loop, as adding quotes to the command to be executed prevents the loop from continuing past where it's supposed to... I really have no idea at this point. Any help would be appreciated. I have a feeling it's going to be something increadibly stupid... but I'm pulling my hair out so I thought I'd ask.

• Microsoft Management Console stops working when I add snap-in to it

  I have Windows 7 Ultimate OS. I'm opening mmc.exe as administrator and trying add Certificates or any other snap-in, then while loading that snap-in MMC breaks and displays following message and after that it closes automatically once I click on close button on that message. What could be the problem?   I have a 32-bit Java installed just for Chrome and 64-bit Java JDK for everything else. When I type java -version in the cmd, the 32-bit Java answers: C:\>java -version java version "1.6.0_26" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_26-b03) Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 20.1-b02, mixed mode, sharing) This is the 32-bit JRE installed for Chrome (the installer name was chromeinstall.exe). However, I'd like the default Java to be this one: C:\>"Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\java.exe" -version java version "1.6.0_26" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_26-b03) Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.1-b02, mixed mode) And for the fun part, only the 64-bit one is in PATH! C:\>echo %PATH% C:\Windows\system32;C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin (snipped irrelevant entries) So long story short: 64-bit JRE is in PATH, but 32-bit JRE is ran by default. What is happening here? • Mac OS X 10.6 executable not found without full path

  I just installed Apache via MacPorts. It seems that my Mac was absolutely confused about which version of the Apache executables to run. After moving the Apache executables that ship with the Mac to a directory that is not listed in the PATH variable, trying to run the httpd built by MacPorts fails even though the correct directory (/opt/local/apache2/bin) is listed in the PATH variable. If I navigate to the directory /opt/local/apache2/bin and type the command httpd I still get the error message -bash: httpd: command not found If I type the command with the full path /opt/local/apache2/bin/httpd it works fine. I've run the command alias to see if something was clashing but the only thing listed is: alias wget='curl -O' How do I find what is intercepting the command and preventing the executable being found in the directory, even when I'm inside the same directory? By the way, the httpd file is executable: -rwxr-xr-x 1 root admin 442496 9 May 2012 httpd

  When I print out the path in bash, it prints this: /usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/X11/bin When I run System.out.println(System.getenv("PATH")); in Java running under Eclipse, it prints /usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin How can I figure out why there is this discrepancy? I need to add /usr/local/bin to the PATH and make it available to Java apps under Eclipse. (note: I have made no modifications system paths, so these are the defaults set by the OS or perhaps by one or more of the applications i've installed.)

  I'm trying to deploy a rails app in Debian, using Apache/Passenger. I was trying to fox a problem with some GEMs and in the process I put executed this in console: export PATH=/var/lib/gems/1.8/bin/:${vendor/cache} Now my path environmental variable is gone, or at least its content. My server is running under Debian 6. Is there a way to recover my path info? Or at least can someone point me where to find the file where that variable i s stored? Some help please. • File corruption after copying files in Windows 7 64 bit using two methods

  I have 5000 pictures and other files in a directory taking up 35 GB. I want to duplicate this directory. Method 1: I do a simple copy and paste of the directory in explorer. I have the habit of checking the checksums after copying important files. In this case I noticed that around 2000 files failed the MD5 test. At a closer inspection of a randomly chosen JPEG with different checksums it turns out that some XMP metadata had changed. In particular, the tag <MicrosoftPhoto:DateAcquired> had changed the date from 2009 to today (possibly around the time I was copying the files). I have no idea what triggered this XMP data to be changed and exactly when it was changed and why for these particular files, but at least it seems to explain the checksum discrepancy. Method 2: As I want the exact files to be duplicated, I tried the program FreeFileSync to mirror the directory, hoping no XMP metadata would mysteriously change. A checksum test in addition to a thorough file comparison test in FreeFileSync lead to two similar but yet different results: 31 files fail the checksum test, 23 files fail the file comparison test. The smaller set is not entirely contained in the bigger set, although many files occur in both. What is alarming here is that not only JPEGs are flagged as altered but also som AVIs, MPGs and a large 7-zip file. Closer inspection of a JPEG indicates that it is indeed corrupt: the bottom half of the picture is simply plain gray. Due to the size of the 7-zip file, I have not been able to pin down the discrepancy. Note, in both methods, every file has its correct file size after being copied. Question: Any thoughts on what is possibly going on here? I have never had this problem before, and I am now terrified that files get corrupted after simple actions like copy/paste and file sync. Even if I manage to successfully copy the files somehow, I would still like an explanation to this.

• Is there a way to display navmesh agent path in Unity?

  I'm currently making a prototype for a game I plan to develop. As far as I did, I managed to set up the navigation mesh and my navmeshagents. I would like to display the path they are following when setDestination() is fired. I did some researches but didn't find anything about it. EDIT 1 : So I instantiate an empty object with a LineRenderer and I have a line bewteen my agent and the destination. Still I've not all the points when the path has to avoid an obstacle. Furthermore, I wonder if the agent.path does reflect the real path that the agent take as I noticed that it actually follow a "smoothier" path. Answer It looks like munging tabular output is the only way within the shell, but df /dev/fd/impossible | tail -1 | awk '{ print $NF}' is a big improvement on what I had. Note two differences in semantics: firstly, df $path insists that $path names an existing file, the script I had above doesn't care; secondly, there are no worries about dereferncing symlinks. It's not difficult to write Python code to do the job.

In my various projects I keep encountering the same usage scenarios which require repetitive, verbose and thus error-prone code snippets that use Path.Combine, Path.GetFileName, Path.GetDirectoryName, String.Format, etc. Scenarios like: changing the extension for a given file name changing the directory path for a given file name building a file path using string formatting (like "Package{0}.zip") building a path without resorting to using hard-coded directory delimiters like \ (since they don't work on Linux on Mono) etc etc Before starting to write my own PathBuilder class or something similar: is there a good (and proven) open-source implementation of such a thing in C#?

In order to make all the email pass the spam filters the "Return-path" and "Sender" headers have to be attached to each email. What should I do in order to have "Return-path" and "Sender" headers added by Exim to be exactly the same as the "From" header created by my mail client ? Thanks
