  • sound volume increase beyond 100% whenever possible on linux

    Some audio output from files or streams is too low. It is obvious that hardware is able to play the same sounds but louder but because of the data it just plays it at some low level even at 100% volume. Vlc can generally increase the volume of a file up to 200%. Is there a way to do the same thing VLC does system-wide and if possible for an arbitrary v percentage value. If there is no application that does this, where should i look into for libs to do it myself or what code should i modify(eg code in the alsamixer) thank you Note: Asked the same thing on stackoverflow and they directed me here.

    From time to time I am in the situation where I need to get data back from storage-side snapshots of cluster shared volumes. I suppose I just never figured out a way to do it right, so I always needed to: expose the shadow copy as a separate LUN offline the original CSV in the cluster un-expose the LUN carrying the original CSV make sure my cluster nodes have detected the new LUN and no longer list the original one add the volume to the list of cluster volumes, promote it to be a CSV copy off the data I need undo steps 5. - 1. to revert to the original configuration This is quite tedious and requires downtime for the original volume. Is there a better way to do this without involving a separate host outside of the cluster?

  • Reducing volume of an audio device on windows 7

    I have a USB headset with a very loud amplifier, but low granularity in its gain control. In order to get comfortable audio, I have to reduce the individual application levels in the mixer to '1', and the master mixer to around '10'. Of course, new applications start out at '10', and immediately blast out my ears. Is there a way to add a filter to cut down the volume some so I can get better control of it? That is, reduce the volume of '100' so I can work within a reasonable range.

  • Volume range is narrow in 12.04

    I have upgraded to Ubuntu 12.04 and I have a problem with the volume. The problem is that the volume is 0 when the volume bar is between 0% and 66% more or less, so the actual volume range is only between 66% and 100%. If I open the sound configuration menu, the position in the volume bar that makes the sound begin sounding (66% more or less) is placed where it says "no amplification". Can anyone help me?     I am using a QNAP as an FTP server. Users access this NAS from their Mac OSX Lion clients and put files and folders inside the QNAP shares, which are later being accessed via FTP from external points. The problem is that inside the folders uploaded to the QNAP folders Mac OS leaves its .DS_Store and .* hidden files. I know that for a Samba share, for example, I need to add two lines to the /etc/samba/smb.conf file: veto files = /._*/.DS_Store/ delete veto files = yes But what can I do on a QNAP FTP service? After searching about hiding contents in a USB I think that there is a hidden partition here that I cant access. How should I proceed to view the contents without damaging the files already present?

  • Hidden Periodic Screenshots on a corporate workstation?

    Can anyone recommend something that allows us to take hidden periodic screenshots of a workstation? We have a user who we believe is abusing his computer privileges. We have our suspicions that he may be playing games, etc. We need to monitor his screen without him being aware of it. Currently, the IT Department here is using Dameware Mini Remote Control to view his login sessions. But there isn't an option to set up automatic periodic screenshots.   • Visualizing volume of PCM samples

    I have several chunks of PCM audio (G.711) in my C++ application. I would like to visualize the different audio volume in each of these chunks. My first attempt was to calculate the average of the sample values for each chunk and use that as an a volume indicator, but this doesn't work well. I do get 0 for chunks with silence and differing values for chunks with audio, but the values only differ slighly and don't seem to resemble the actual volume. What would be a better algorithem calculate the volume ? I hear G.711 audio is logarithmic PCM. How should I take that into account ?

  • How do I restore the Gnome Panel volume control in Ubuntu 10.04?

    I use alsa, and I don't have a volume control applet on my Gnome Panel. When I right click and select "add to panel", there is nothing that has to do with "sound", "audio" or "volume" in the list, and the "Indicator Applet" or "Indicator Applet Session" things have no volume controls, or properties that would let you enable any sort of volume control. How can I get a volume control in Ubuntu, so I don't have to run aumix in a terminal or something? I've been using Linux since Redhat 5, it's beyond me why these sorts of problems are still around. Someone should just put a damn "Volume Control" element in the list of things to add to the panel, even if it doesn't work, perhaps showing an error message.

    When watching online Flash videos on Youtube, Dailymotion, etc... sometimes the videos are recorded at low volume. The thing is that, I have a HP Notebook with good enough audio volume, but when I watch these "low volume" videos the sound level is really low, even when I have the volume at 100%. So I am looking for a way to increase the volume gain (like VLC player where you can increase it to 200%), BUT while watching it live on Youtube... that is, I don't want to download the video on my PC. Is there a software that can do that? Maybe an advanced flash video player that integrates to browser? or some other software to increase the volume gain overall on my laptop? My Specs: HP Pavilion Notebook, Audio: IDT High Definition Audio CODEC (integrated), Vista 64-bit, 4 GB RAM, etc.....

  • Need Info on the Hidden Switch in SET - "/S" How to implement

    I am having some problems doing a proper search of "SET/S" or "SET /S" on google and other search providers. The difficulty arises with the SLASH "/", it is commonly used in search engines to add a "nearness" to the search parameter. I have found no way to escape the SLASH when searching for a SLASH. For those on this community, try searching this domain with the two search terms listed above. It just doesn't work, it ends up looking for SET S instead. But I digress. So Im asking the uber-guru's on this board to help me find out about the documentation of /S and how to implement SET /S in a batch file. SET is an internal DOS/cmd commandand allows many things incuding prompting the user, integer math and writing environment strings. in looking at this link: http://www.robvanderwoude.com/os2set.php it appears that the /S is only for OS2 but im thinking that this might not be the case, due to this: http://www.dostips.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2704, apparently used with substings and macros. any help is much appreciated

  • jcarousel not getting drawn inside a hidden div

    I am struggling since hrs on this one now. I am using a div to populate a ul/li list and then draw a jcarousel out of it. So this works fine $('#mycarousel').jcarousel(); everything works fine as expected... but here is the scenario. the div inside which I have ul/li items could be hidden by the click of another button. When the div is hidden, and I resize the browser window...the jcaraousel also attempts to redraw itself... but since it is hidden, it is not able to draw it properly. and everyting is jumbled up in the list (if I click the button again to make it visible)... but again if I resize the window now (the jumbled up jcarousel is NOT hidden now)... it redraws itself correctly... I was wondering to get hold of the jcarousel instance and reload itself as soon as the button is clicked to make the div visible (the way it resizes itself when it is visible and window is resized) to get hold of the jcarousel.. I am using JQuery('#mycarousel').data('jcarousel') and it is returned as null. Anybody has any idea on this one?
