  • Playing a .wav sound file in JPanel/JFrame using Java (Swing)

    - by JavaIceCream
    I need some code example on how I would use a filepath from a harddrive location to then play a .wav sound file when opened in swing GUI. I don't need it to show a play button, or pause or stop. I just want it to play when I select the 'Sound' option from my 'Files' in my window (I know how to do that already, no need to explain that). So basically, just how to play a .wav sound file from a filepath (i.e. c:/cake/thereisnone.wav) inside of a JFrame. And how can I easily apply methods to that sound file afterwards. Also, if anyone knows how to apply methods on a BufferedImage in a JFrame, that would be helpful too. Thank you very much everyone!

  • Java2d: JPanel set background color not working

    - by Algorist
    I am having the below code. public VizCanvas(){ { this.setBackground(Color.black); this.setSize(400,400); } } It worked fine and displays the panel in black background. But when I implement the paint method, which does nothing, the color changes to default color i.e gray. I tried to set graphics.setColor() but it didn't help. Thank you.

  • How to get image's coordinate on JPanel

    - by Jessy
    This question is related to my previous question http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2376027/how-to-generate-cartesian-coordinate-x-y-from-gridbaglayout I have successfully get the coordinate of each pictures, however when I checked the coordinate through (System.out.println) and the placement of the images on the screen, it seems to be wrong. e.g. if on the screen it was obvious that the x point of the first picture is on cell 2 which is on coordinate of 20, but the program shows x=1. Here is part of the code: public Grid (){ setPreferredSize(new Dimension(600,600)); .... setLayout(new GridBagLayout()); GridBagConstraints gc = new GridBagConstraints(); gc.weightx = 1d; gc.weighty = 1d; gc.insets = new Insets(0, 0, 0, 0);//top, left, bottom, and right gc.fill = GridBagConstraints.BOTH; JLabel[][] label = new JLabel[ROWS][COLS]; Random rand = new Random(); // fill the panel with labels for (int i=0;i<IMAGES;i++){ ImageIcon icon = createImageIcon("myPics.jpg"); int r, c; do{ //pick random cell which is empty r = (int)Math.floor(Math.random() * ROWS); c = (int)Math.floor(Math.random() * COLS); } while (label[r][c]!=null); //randomly scale the images int x = rand.nextInt(50)+30; int y = rand.nextInt(50)+30; Image image = icon.getImage().getScaledInstance(x,y, Image.SCALE_SMOOTH); icon.setImage(image); JLabel lbl = new JLabel(icon); // Instantiate GUI components gc.gridx = r; gc.gridy = c; add(lbl, gc); //add(component, constraintObj); label[r][c] = lbl; } I checked the coordinate through this code: Component[] components = getComponents(); for (Component component : components) { System.out.println(component.getBounds()); }

  • Is it possible to have a JPanel over JTable

    - by YuppieNetworking
    Hello, I have a JTable whose associated TableModel could be initially empty. Therefore, it currently shows a JTable with its columns and no rows. In order to fill this JTable, I want the user to drag and drop elements from another component. The problem is that I would like to hint the user that he/she should drag elements to this table, with some message like "Drag xxx here to add a row". I thought that I could achieve this by putting a panel over the JTable , but I don't think it is possible with any java layout. Does anyone know how to do this? Or should I stick to a CardLayout to switch to/from the hint and the JTable? Thanks a lot

  • Image not getting displayed on a JPanel.

    - by Myth17
    class Deal implements ActionListener { public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) { dl.setDeck(); dl.shuffle(); dl.firstDraw(pl); for(Card c:pl.showHand()) panelplay.add(new JLabel(c.getImageIcon())); panelplay.validate(); } } This is an event handler for a Jbutton. The method pl.showHand() returns a ArrayList of a user defined class 'Card'. Inserting a println() inside the loop shows the print, so the code is being executed but the Panel panelplay isnt showing card Images.

  • Make text appear briefly in a JPanel

    - by Roo
    Hi, I am trying to make text appear briefly before it disappears. It would be along the lines of 1) Set color to black 2) wait x amount of seconds 3) set color to background color The method I call is repaint(), which then calls paintComponent(Graphics painter). repaint() is called only if I press the space-bar. I thought of trying repaint();Thread.sleep(1000);repaint(); (I do catch the Interrupt exception, just not shown), but it only calls paintComponent once per space-bar . Is there an easy way to do this or is this something that is a bit challenging?

  • How I can add JScroll bar to NavigableImagePanel which is an Image panel with an small navigation vi

    - by Sarah Kho
    Hi, I have the following NavigableImagePanel, it is under BSD license and I found it in the web. What I want to do with this panel is as follow: I want to add a JScrollPane to it in order to show images in their full size and let the users to re-center the image using the small navigation panel. Right now, the panel resize the images to fit them in the current panel size. I want it to load the image in its real size and let users to navigate to different parts of the image using the navigation panel. Source code for the panel: import java.awt.AWTEvent; import java.awt.BorderLayout; import java.awt.Color; import java.awt.Dimension; import java.awt.Graphics; import java.awt.Graphics2D; import java.awt.GraphicsEnvironment; • paintComponent method is not displaying anything on the panel

    - by Captain Gh0st
    I have been trying to debug this for hours. The program is supposed to be a grapher that graphs coordinates, but i cannot get anything to display not even a random line, but if i put a print statement there it works. It is a problem with the paintComponent Method. When I out print statement before g.drawLine then it prints, but it doesn't draw any lines even if i put a random line with coordinates (1,3), (2,4). import java.awt.*; import java.util.*; import javax.swing.*; public abstract class XYGrapher { abstract public Coordinate xyStart(); abstract public double xRange(); abstract public double yRange(); abstract public Coordinate getPoint(int pointNum); public class Paint extends JPanel { public void paintGraph(Graphics g, int xPixel1, int yPixel1, int xPixel2, int yPixel2) { super.paintComponent(g); g.setColor(Color.black); g.drawLine(xPixel1, yPixel1, xPixel2, yPixel2); } public void paintXAxis(Graphics g, int xPixel, int pixelsWide, int pixelsHigh) { super.paintComponent(g); g.setColor(Color.green); g.drawLine(xPixel, 0, xPixel, pixelsHigh); } public void paintYAxis(Graphics g, int yPixel, int pixelsWide, int pixelsHigh) { super.paintComponent(g); g.setColor(Color.green); g.drawLine(0, yPixel, pixelsWide, yPixel); } } public void drawGraph(int xPixelStart, int yPixelStart, int pixelsWide, int pixelsHigh) { JFrame frame = new JFrame(); Paint panel = new Paint(); panel.setPreferredSize(new Dimension(pixelsWide, pixelsHigh)); panel.setMinimumSize(new Dimension(pixelsWide, pixelsHigh)); panel.setMaximumSize(new Dimension(pixelsWide, pixelsHigh)); frame.setLocation(frame.getToolkit().getScreenSize().width / 2 - pixelsWide / 2, frame.getToolkit().getScreenSize().height / 2 - pixelsHigh / 2); frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE); frame.setResizable(false); frame.add(panel); frame.pack(); frame.setVisible(true); double xRange = xRange(); double yRange = yRange(); Coordinate xyStart = xyStart(); int xPixel = xPixelStart - (int) (xyStart.getX() * (pixelsWide / xRange)); int yPixel = yPixelStart + (int) ((xyStart.getY() + yRange) * (pixelsHigh / yRange)); System.out.println(xPixel + " " + yPixel); if(yPixel > 0 && (yPixel < pixelsHigh)) { System.out.println("y"); panel.paintYAxis(panel.getGraphics(), yPixel, pixelsWide, pixelsHigh); } if(xPixel > 0 && (xPixel < pixelsHigh)) { System.out.println("x"); panel.paintXAxis(panel.getGraphics(), xPixel, pixelsWide, pixelsHigh); } for(int i = 0; i>=0; i++) { Coordinate point1 = getPoint(i); Coordinate point2 = getPoint(i+1); if(point2 == null) { break; } else { if(point1.drawFrom() && point2.drawTo()) { int xPixel1 = (int) (xPixelStart + (point1.getX() - xyStart.getX()) * (pixelsWide / xRange)); int yPixel1 = (int) (yPixelStart + (xyStart.getY() + yRange-point1.getY()) * (pixelsHigh / yRange)); int xPixel2 = (int) (xPixelStart + (point2.getX() - xyStart.getX()) * (pixelsWide / xRange)); int yPixel2 = (int) (yPixelStart + (xyStart.getY() + yRange - point2.getY()) * (pixelsHigh / yRange)); panel.paintGraph(panel.getGraphics(), xPixel1, yPixel1, xPixel2, yPixel2); } } } frame.pack(); } } This is how i am testing it is supposed to be a square, but nothing shows up. public class GrapherTester extends XYGrapher { public Coordinate xyStart() { return new Coordinate(-2,2); } public double xRange() { return 4; } public double yRange() { return 4; } public Coordinate getPoint(int pointNum) { switch(pointNum) { case 0: return new Coordinate(-1,-1); case 1: return new Coordinate(1,-1); case 2: return new Coordinate(1,1); case 3: return new Coordinate(-1,1); case 4: return new Coordinate(-1,-1); } return null; } public static void main(String[] args) { new GrapherTester().drawGraph(100, 100, 500, 500); } } Coordinate class so if any of you want to run and try it out.   • Returning values from Swing using invokeAndWait

    - by Joonas Pulakka
    I've been using the following approach to create components and return values from Swing to/from outside the EDT. For instance, the following method could be an extension to JFrame, to create a JPanel and add it to the parent JFrame: public JPanel threadSafeAddPanel() { final JPanel[] jPanel = new JPanel[1]; try { EventQueue.invokeAndWait(new Runnable() { public void run() { jPanel[0] = new JPanel(); add(jPanel[0]); } }); } catch (InterruptedException ex) { } catch (InvocationTargetException ex) { } return jPanel[0]; } The local 1-length array is used to transfer the "result" from inside the Runnable, which is invoked in the EDT. Well, it looks "a bit" hacky, and so my questions: Does this make sense? Is anybody else doing something like this? Is the 1-length array a good way of transferring the result? Is there an easier way to do this?

  • jList in Scrollpane, seeking and displaying value of selectedIndex

    - by Mech Software
    I have a JList inside a Scrollpane. If you click on the list and move the arrow keys up and down it works like you expect, you can move your selection index and display around just fine. Now, what I want to do is basically have a text box and i'm typing in the text box like "comic" and want it to seek to the index of that value. This WORKS just fine. Where the problem is when the value of the list box is below, or above the viewable area. When it is, the selected index seeks, but does not change the position of the scrollable region. However, if I press the up or down arrows and requestFocus() to the list, and move up and down it seeks to the right viewable area. What am I missing to make this happen WITHOUT changing focus. I want to be able to just type in the list all I want and have it show me what is selected. I feel i'm missing something obvious here.

    I've been trying to load up an image dynamically in runtime for the longest time and have taken a look at other posts on this site and have yet to find exactly the thing that will work. I am trying to load an image while my GUI is running (making it in runtime) and have tried various things. Right now, I have found the easiest way to create an image is to use a JLabel and add an ImageIcon to it. This has worked, but when I go to load it after the GUI is running, it fails saying there is a "NullPointerException". Here is the code I have so far: p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec("python C:\\FaceVACS\\roc.py " + "C:/FaceVACS/OutputCMC_" + target + ".txt " + "C:/FaceVACS/ROC_" + target + ".png"); Icon graph = new ImageIcon("C:\\FaceVACS\\OutputCMC_" + target + ".png"); roc_image.setIcon(graph); panel.add(roc_image); panel.revalidate(); gui.frame.pack(); I tried panel.validate(), panel.revalidate(), and I've also tried gui.getRootPane(), but I can't seem to find anything that will work. Any ideas would be helpful! Thanks

  • Bad event on java panel

    - by LucaB
    Hi I have a java panel with 4 buttons. When I click on of these buttons, a new frame appears and the first is hidden with setVisibile(false). On that new window, I have another button, but when i click it, I got the event corresponding to the fourth button of the first window. Clicking the button again does the trick, but of course this is not acceptable. Am I missing something? I just show the frames with nameOfTheFrame.setVisible(true); and I have MouseListeners on every button. The code of the last button is simply: System.exit(0); EDIT Sample code: private void btn_joinGamePressed(java.awt.event.MouseEvent evt) { GraphicsTools.getInstance().getCreateGame().setVisible(false); GraphicsTools.getInstance().getMainPanel().setVisible(false); GraphicsTools.getInstance().getRegistration().setVisible(true); } GraphicsTools is a Singleton.

  • How can I remove a JPanel from a JFrame?

    - by Roman
    Recently I asked here how to add a new JPanel to JFrame. The answer helped me to get a working code. But not I have a related question: "How can I remove an old JPanel". I need that because of the following problem. A new JPanel appears appears when I want (either time limit is exceeded or user press the "Submit" button). But in several seconds some element of the old JPanel appears together with the component of the new JPanel. I do not understand why it happens. I thought that it is because I have to other threads which update the window. But the first thread just add the old panel once (so, it should be finished). And in the second thread I have a loop which is broken (so, it also should be finished). Here is my code: private Thread controller = new Thread() { public void run() { // First we set the initial pane (for the selection of partner). SwingUtilities.invokeLater(new Runnable() { public void run() { frame.getContentPane().add(generatePartnerSelectionPanel()); frame.invalidate(); frame.validate(); } }); // Update the pane for the selection of the parnter. for (int i=40; i>0; i=i-1) { final int sec = i; SwingUtilities.invokeLater(new Runnable() { public void run() { timeLeftLabel.setText(sec + " seconds left."); } }); try {Thread.sleep(1000);} catch (InterruptedException e) {} if (partnerSubmitted) {break;} } // For the given user the selection phase is finished (either the time is over or form was submitted). SwingUtilities.invokeLater(new Runnable() { public void run() { frame.getContentPane().add(generateWaitForGamePanel()); frame.invalidate(); frame.validate(); } }); } };

  • java: how to make srollable panel with radio button and labels inside?

    - by Lucia
    Hi, I got a JScrollPane in which I want to place a list of radio buttons and labels. My problem is the panel doesn't scroll, I suppose it's because i didn't set a viewport, but how can I set it when I have to many components? My code looks something like this: JScrollPane panel = new JScrollPane(); JRadioButton myRadio; JLabel myLabel; for(int i = 0; i<100; i++){ myRadio = new JRadioButton(); myLabel = new JLabel("text"); panel.add(myRadio); panel.add(myLabel); } Thanks.

  • How do I make my custom Swing component visible?

    - by Alex
    I have no idea why it won't show. First I create an instance of the component and then add it to a certain element in a two-dimensional JPanel array. Then I loop through that array and add each JPanel to another JPanel container which is to hold all the JPanels. I then add that final container to my JFrame window and set visibility to true, it should be visible? public class View extends JFrame { Board gameBoard; JFrame gameWindow = new JFrame("Chess"); JPanel gamePanel = new JPanel(); JPanel[][] squarePanel = new JPanel[8][8]; JMenuBar gameMenu = new JMenuBar(); JButton restartGame = new JButton("Restart"); JButton pauseGame = new JButton("Pause"); JButton log = new JButton("Log"); View(Board board){ gameWindow.setDefaultCloseOperation(EXIT_ON_CLOSE); gameWindow.setSize(400, 420); gameWindow.getContentPane().add(gamePanel, BorderLayout.CENTER); gameWindow.getContentPane().add(gameMenu, BorderLayout.NORTH); gameMenu.add(restartGame); gameMenu.add(pauseGame); gameMenu.add(log); gameBoard = board; drawBoard(gameBoard); gameWindow.setResizable(false); gameWindow.setVisible(true); } public void drawBoard(Board board){ for(int row = 0; row < 8; row++){ for(int col = 0; col < 8; col++){ Box box = new Box(board.getSquare(col, row).getColour(), col, row); squarePanel[col][row] = new JPanel(); squarePanel[col][row].add(box); } } for(JPanel[] col : squarePanel){ for(JPanel square : col){ gamePanel.add(square); } } } } @SuppressWarnings("serial") class Box extends JComponent{ Color boxColour; int col, row; public Box(Color boxColour, int col, int row){ this.boxColour = boxColour; this.col = col; this.row = row; repaint(); } protected void paintComponent(Graphics drawBox){ drawBox.setColor(boxColour); drawBox.drawRect(50*col, 50*row, 50, 50); drawBox.fillRect(50*col, 50*row, 50, 50); } } A final question as well. Notice how each Box component has a position, what happens to the position when I add the component to a JPanel and add the JPanel to my JFrame? Does it still have the same position in relation to the other Box components?

  • keyPressed is not working after adding ActionListener to JButton

    - by Yehonatan
    I have a serious problem while trying to build a menu for my game. I've added two JButton to a main JPanel and added an ActionListener for each of them. The main JPanel also contains the game JPanel which have the keyPressed method inside keyController. That's how it looks - Main -       JPanel -         JButton, JButton,         JPanel which contains the game and keyPressed function inside KeyController class which worked fine before I added the ActionListener for JButton. For some reason after I added an ActionListener for each of the button, the game JPanel is not getting any keyPreseed events nor KeyRealesed. Does anyone know the solution for my situation? Thank you very much! Main window - Scanner in = new Scanner(System.in); JFrame f = new JFrame("Square V.S Circles"); f.setUndecorated(true); f.setResizable(false); f.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.DISPOSE_ON_CLOSE); f.add(new JPanelHandler()); f.pack(); f.setVisible(true); f.setLocationRelativeTo(null); JPanelHandler(main JPanel) - super.setFocusable(true); JButton mybutton = new JButton("Quit"); JButton sayhi = new JButton("Say hi"); sayhi.addActionListener(new ActionListener() { @Override public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) { System.out.println("Hi"); } }); mybutton.addActionListener(new ActionListener() { @Override public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) { System.exit(0); } }); add(mybutton); add(sayhi); add(new Board(2)); Board KeyController(The code inside is working so it's unnecessary to put it here) - private class KeyController extends KeyAdapter { public KeyController() { ..Code } @Override public void keyPressed(KeyEvent e) { ...Code } @Override public void keyReleased(KeyEvent e){ ...Code } }

When calling the functions in another file, it looks like I just get the JPanel (but without any labels or the layout or other GridBagLayout features). Help?
