  • Thanks to all attendees in Seattle and Toronto

Seattle had a quite unusual track setup with two parallel breakout sessions. We hope you've enjoyed it as well.   • Detecting Browser Types?

    My client has asked me to implement a browser detection system for the admin login with the following criteria, allow these: Internet Explorer 8 or newer Firefox 3.6 or newer Safari 5 or newer for Mac only And everything else should be blocked. They want me to implement a page telling the user what browser they need to upgrade/switch to in order to access the CMS. Basically I need to know the best way to detect these browsers with PHP, distinct from any other browsers, and I've read that browser sniffing per se is not a good idea. The CMS is WordPress but this is not a WordPress question (FYI I am a moderator on the WordPress Answers site.) Once I figure out the right technique to detect the browser I'm fully capable to make WordPress react as my client wants, I just need to know what the best ways are with PHP (or worse case jQuery, but I much prefer to do on the server) to figure how what works and what doesn't. Please understand that "Don't do it" is not an acceptable answer for this question. I know this client too well and when they ask me to implement something I need to do it (they are a really good client so I'm happy to do what they ask.) Thanks in advance for your expertise. -Mike

  • Data Pump: Consistent Export?

    Ouch ... I have to admit as I did say in several workshops in the past weeks that a data pump export with expdp is per se consistent. Well ... I thought it is ... but it's not. Thanks to a customer who is doing a large unicode migration at the moment. We were discussing parameters in the expdp's par file. And I did ask my colleagues after doing some research on MOS. And here are the results of my "research": MOS Note 377218.1 has a nice example showing a data pump export of a partitioned table with DELETEs on that table as inconsistent Background:Back in the old 9i days when Data Pump was designed flashback technology wasn't as popular and well known as today - and UNDO usage was the major concern as a consistent per default export would have heavily relied on UNDO. That's why - similar to good ol' exp - the export won't operate per default in consistency mode To get a consistent data pump export with expdp you'll have to set: FLASHBACK_TIME=SYSTIMESTAMPin your parameter file. Then it will be consistent according to the timestamp when the process has been started. You could use FLASHBACK_SCN instead and determine the SCN beforehand if you'd like to be exact. So sorry if I had proclaimed a feature which unfortunately is not there by default - Mike

  • Nordics OTN ACE Tour 2013 - Recap

    The Nordics OTN ACE Tour 2013 with stops in Stockholm, Ballerup/Copenhagen and Oslo is over. A very intense week with plenty of excellent presentations from Lonneke Dikmans, Sten Vesterli, Tim Hall and others. I'm always impressed how much those people know and how good they present. It's such a great learning experience. And there's always some time to talk about weired things apart from the Oracle cosmos. So thanks a lot, folks - it was a pleasure to travel with you. And many many thanks also to the people from ORCAN, DOUG and OUGN. Everything worked out so well. And thanks for the great gifts. the dinners, everything!!! Of course a special thanks to all the people who went to my presentations.     Hi, I'm planning to build a server to do the following Act as a file server (videos, pictures music) Run Squeezebox server Run Zune Software to allow wireless syncing to Windows Phone 7 I'd also like to aim for Low power usage (i'd settle for less than the 90-100Watts I'm using atm Flexibility, I might want to add a web server or sharepoint or... Something I can learn/test on, work is mainly a Windows shop but I do have Linux experience too I'd like to take a look at App-V (application virtualization) too I'd like it to cost less than $1000 Quiet would be nice but not essential (it'll be in the basement) I'm thinking of getting a technet subscription to get access to Windows Server 2008 R2 at a reasonable price ($199) So my plan was this Get a bunch of 2TB Caviar green drives to RAID up (RAID 1 or 6 probably) Get a Quad core CPU (Intel i5/i7 probably) Install a Hypervisor Install w2k8 R2 Storage Server for a NAS Install Windows 7 Pro to run Zune/Squeeze box Install any other machines I want to play with Questions Can anyone see any issues with this or have any better ideas? Do you think I'd need an i7 over an i5? Is 4 cores enough/too much? Can anyone sugest a nice, reasonably priced case that will hold 6-8 drives and stay cool Should I wait for Sandy Bridge parts?

  • Making Google Talk messages appear on all logged in clients

    We're using Google Talk as our unofficial-official chat client around the office at work. One thing that poses a big problem almost every day is the fact that Google Talk only sends a message to the clients that you last used. Even though you may be logged into GTalk on 3 different machines, if you start talking on one machine, that becomes your "active" machine, and if you go to another machine, you will still only get messages on the last active machine. Is there a way that you can force Google Talk to send messages to ALL logged in clients, regardless of which client you are actively using? That way, you don't miss any messages during the time between when you get up from the active machine and then make the new client "active".

    I am trying to show the Days between NOW() and the dates (dd/mm/yy) in, either Column B or Column C - depending which one is NOT blank A B C 29/03/10 01/04/10 29/03/10 02/04/10 29/03/10 30/04/10 29/03/10 31/03/10 29/03/10 03/04/10 I currently have the formaul below and then drag it down, but it obviously means I need to go back and amend the 'errors'. =DAYS360(A1,B1) I always forget how to nest this type of NULL/BLANK thing so any help, or pointers to remember would be appreciated.   • Socket error sendig data from loftware to zebra zm400

    I have a problem with my Zebra zm 400. I print a label from loftware, and in random times comes the label not out from the printer. When this issue comes, then I can't ping my printer or I can't achive the webpage of the printer. Only I need to disconnect the UTP cable from te Zebra. and after this disconnect work the printer fine. And in variale intervals come this problem again! Thanks and regards, Mike

  • Cat5 vs Cat5e vs Cat6 cable confusion

Pretty much all the devices I have support gigabit ethernet should I go out an buy some decent network cables (and if so what type) or should I continue using my mix of cat5 cables I've acquired over the years. Does the type of cable really make a difference to my LAN performance??

  • Why is my mail stuck in the queue with the status "retry" in Exchange 2003?

    I have been having a problem recently where some of our mail is not getting to clients. I looked into the Message queue on my SBS2k3 server and noticed that several recipients are showing up in the queue with a state of "Retry". When I highlight the recipient, the additional queue information says "An SMTP protocol error occured". How can I find out more specifically what error occured, and how could I then go about correcting it? Thanks, Mike

I don't want to use any packages, or even SNMP - I want to query the server health from WMI and understand if a box is Green/Amber/Red - just like the HP Management Home Page.   • How do I prevent mail from my Exchange server from being blocked?

    Recently one of our client machines was infected with a virus and I believe was spamming addresses in the user's contact list. Since then our server has been appearing on blacklists and it has been causing our e-mail to be blocked and returned by many clients. The virus has since been cleared, what can I do to get our server off these blacklists so that we will have more reliable e-mail service? Will I have to change my IP address? Thanks, Mike

  • I can't get the Samsung PC Studio to work on Vista or Windows 7

    Has anyone got a solution to this problem have asked Samsung but no reply yet! The software installs OK and the drivers, it sees the Tocco Lite when connected but will not actually connect! error message can't change mode or can't connect as "no response from the device because it is in the initializing stage. Try again after the initialization has completed" but it never does. Please Help!!! Mike

    Hi, I drew a shape with the pen tool in Flash CS4. When I double click on the line it highlights the entire shape, but I can't fill for some reason.   • How can I create profiles for the windows that are open on my Mac?

    As a semi-dual monitor user on my MacBook, I run into a particular issue that drives me nuts. The scenario is at work I run my MacBook Pro's display as the secondary monitor to a dual-monitor setup. I primarily use the secondary view for my social network windows (Adium, Tweetie, Gabbble, and IRC). I position exactly as I want them to see all at the same time. However, when I disconnect my MBP to go home and reconnect to my other monitor at home, all the applications were shifted onto the main screen (since that is where they went when I disconnected the monitor before I left). With this, I have to go through the whole process again to move and position them on the secondary screen again. Is there a utility or application that will allow me to create screen/window profiles that will basically memorize the current position of all the windows and persist it to be re-instantiated later?
