  • Querying my JPA provider (Hibernate) for a collection of <Id,Name> of an entity

    Hi, I have an entity which looks something like this: Id (PK) Name Other business properties and associations... I have the need for my DAL (JPA with hibernate as provider) to return a list of the entities which correlate to some constraints (or just return them all) but instead of returning the entities themselves I'd like to receive only the Id and the Name properties. I know this can be achieved with HQL/SQL (something like: select id,name from entity where...) but I don't want to go down that road. I was thinking of somehow defining the pair a compositioned part of the entity and thought that might help me but I'm not sure that's "legal" as the Id is the PK. The logic for this scenario is to have a textbox which asynchronously queries the web-service (and through it the DAL) for the relevant entities and once an entity is selected then it is loaded as a whole and shipped to the front-end. Please note that I AM getting the freeSpace value at the line: freeSpace = Convert.ToInt64(m["FreeSpace"]); So I know the query IS working for freeSpace. Can anyone give me a hand?

  • get data from gridview without querying database

    Hi there I am new at this so please bear with me... I have managed to get the following code to work...so when I click on the "select" link in each row of the gridview, the data is transfered to other label/textbox on the webpage. So far so good, the thing is that everytime I click on select...it goes and checks on the database for the data and there is a delay of a few seconds... I was hoping that the data, since it is already visible on the gridrows, is simply "picked up" and used on other labels/textboxes...without requerying the database. Is this possible ?   • Performance when querying a View

    I'm wondering if this is a bad practice or if in general this is the correct approach. Lets say that I've created a view that combines a few attributes from a few tables. My question, what do I need to do so I can query against this view as if it were a table without worrying about performance? All attributes in the original tables are indexed, my concern is that the result view will have hundreds of thousands of records, which I will want to narrow down quite a bit based on user input. What I'd like to avoid, is having multiple versions of the code that generates this view floating around with a few extra "where" conditions to facilitate the user input filtering. For example, assume my view has this header VIEW(Name, Type, DateEntered) this may have 100,000+ rows (possibly millions). I'd like to be able to make this view in SQL Server, and then in my application write querlies like this: SELECT Name, Type, DateEntered FROM MyView WHERE DateEntered BETWEEN @date1 and @date2; Basically, I am denormalizing my data for a series of reports that need to be run, and I'd like to centralize where I pull the data from, maybe I'm not looking at this problem from the right angle though, so I'm open to alternative ways to attack this.

    I'm working on a personal project (Search engine) and have a bit of a dilemma. At the moment it is optimized for writing data to the search index and significantly slow for search queries. The DTA (Database Engine Tuning Adviser) recommends adding a couple of Indexed views inorder to speed up search queries. But this is to the detriment of writing new data to the DB. It seems I can't have one without the other! This is obviously not a new problem. What is a good strategy for this issue?

For example <Meta> <From>[email protected]</From> <To> <Address>[email protected]</Address> <Address>[email protected]</Address> </To> <Subject>ESubject Goes Here</Subject> </Meta> I want to then be able to query this field to return the following results From To Subject [email protected] [email protected] Subject Goes Here [email protected] [email protected] Subject Goes Here I've written the following query SELECT MetaData.query('data(/Meta/From)') AS [From], MetaData.query('data(/Meta/To/Address)') AS [To], MetaData.query('data(/Meta/Subject)') AS [Subject] FROM Documents However this only returns one record for that XML field. It combines both the 2 addresses into one result. Is it possible for split these on to separate records?     I need help please with writing a sproc, it takes a table-valued parameter @Locations, whose Type is defined as follows: CREATE TYPE [dbo].[tvpLocation] AS TABLE( [CountryId] [int] NULL, [ResortName] [nvarchar](100) NULL, [Ordinal] [int] NOT NULL, PRIMARY KEY CLUSTERED ( [Ordinal] ASC )WITH (IGNORE_DUP_KEY = OFF) ) @Locations will contain at least 1 row. Each row WILL have a non-null CountryId, and MAY have a non-null ResortName. Each row will have a unique Ordinal, the first being 0. The combinations of CountryId and ResortName in @Locations will be unique. The sproc needs to search against the following table structure. The image can be seen better by right-clicking it and View Image, or similar depending on your browser. Now this is where I'm stuck, the sproc should be able to find Tours where: The Tour's 1st TourHotel (Ordinal 0) has the same CountryId (and ResortName if specified) of the 1st row of @Locations (Ordinal 0). And also if @Locations has 1 row, the Tour must have additional TourHotels, ALL of which must be in the remaining CountryIds (and ResortNames if specified) of these remaining @Locations rows. I have a data table structured like this: Table: Data DataID Val 1 Value 1 2 Value 2 3 Value 3 4 Value 4 Then I have another table structured like this: Table: Table1 Col1 Col2 1 2 3 4 4 3 2 1 Both columns from Table1 point to the data in the data table. How can I get this data to show in a query?     Hi, I have series of records in a table called 'hits' and each record has the current_timestamp (ie. 2010-04-30 10:11:30) in a column called 'current_time'. What I would like to do is query these records and return only the records from the current month. I cannot seem to get this to work. I have tried a range of queries that don't work such as - Select * FROM hits WHERE MONTH(FROM_UNIXTIME(current_time)) = 4 I don't know if I am even on the right lines!     I need to store data in memory where I map one or more key strings to an object, as follows: "green", "blue" -> object1 "red", "yellow" -> object2 I need to be able to efficiently receive a list of objects, where the strings match some boolean criteria, such as: ("red" OR "green") AND NOT "blue" I'm working in Java, so the ideal solution would be an off-the-shelf Java library. I am, however, willing to implement something from scratch if necessary. Anyone have any ideas? I'd rather avoid the overhead of an in-memory database if possible, I'm hoping for something comparable in speed to a HashMap (or at least the same order of magnitude).

    In an application I need to query a Postgres DB where I expect tens or even hundreds of millions of rows in the result set. I might do this query once a day, or even more frequently. The query itself is relatively simple, although may involve a few JOINs. My question is: How smart is Postgres with respect to avoiding having to seek around the disk for each row of the result set? Given the time required for a hard disk seek, this could be extremely expensive. If this isn't an issue, how does Postgres avoid it? How does it know how to lay out data on the disk such that it can be streamed out in an efficient manner in response to this query?

    My MySQL database has date of birth stored in the format yyyy-mm-dd, how do I query the database - without using php code - to show me results of people born within x years of now, and/or, who are y years of age? The table is called users, the colum is called dob. I've spent a while viewing the MySQL manual but I can't work out precisely how to form my query. So far I went for select * from users where dob... but I don't think that's the way to go.

    Hi, The same compiled .Net / C++ / Com program does different things on two seemingly same computers. Both have DOZENS of things installed on them. I would like to figure out what the difference between the two is by looking at an ASCII diff. Before that I need to "serialize" the list of installed things in a plain readable format - sorted alphabetically + one item per line. A Python script would be ideal, but I also have Perl, PowerShell installed. Thank you.

    A few months ago we at Tellago had open sourced the BizTalk Data Services. We were meanwhile working on other artifacts which comes along with BizTalk Server like the “Business Rules Engine”.  We are happy to announce the first version of BRE Data Services. BRE Data Services is a same concept which we covered through BTS Data Services, providing a RESTFul OData – based API to interact with the Business Rules Engine via HTTP using ATOM Publishing Protocol or JSON as the encoding mechanism.   In the first version release, we mainly focused on the browsing, querying and searching BRE artifacts via a RESTFul interface. This is a very simple implementations of the executing the policies due to the limitations & restrictions (only primitive types of input parameters which can be passed) currently of the Service Operations of the WCF Data Services. Below is a code sample.                Below is a traced Request/Response message.                                 Ø Second is through the IUpdatable Interface of WCF Data Services. In this method, you can first query the rule which you want to execute and then inserts Facts for that particular Rules and finally when you perform the SaveChanges() call for the IUpdatable Interface API, it executes the policy with the facts which you inserted at runtime. Below is a sample of client side code. Due to the limitations of current version of WCF Data Services where there is no way you can return back the updates happening on the service side back to the client via the SaveChanges() method. Here we are executing the rule passing a serialized XML as Facts and there is no changes made to any data where we can query back to fetch the changes. The future releases will target on technologies like BAM, ESB Toolkit. This version has been tested with various version of BizTalk Server and we have uploaded the source code to our Tellago's DevLabs workspace at Codeplex. I hope you guys enjoy this release.
