    I finally did the work necessary to improve the codegen for finally handlers. More improvements are still possible, but at least most finally handlers will now execute without touching the exception object (and hence without having to do any mapping/stack trace collection work). It also means that assembly file sizes are a little bit smaller and that the debugging experience should be improved (less exception catching & rethrowing).   • What happens when a snapshot is deleted

    I have a tree of snapshots taken about once an hour as I progressed through a rather tricky server setup. Now that I'm done, I would like to get rid of the snapshots, but I gather that these are actually differencing drives. If that's the case, does it not mean that deleting a snapshot will in fact revert me back to a previous point in time. Or does it mean that deleting a snapshot merges the changed bits into the parent VHD.

  • Can You Specify Where LVM Snapshots Are (Initially) Stored?

    Disclaimer: this is my first time using lvm. Upon RTFM, it appears that LVM snapshots are automatically stored in the same directory as the original logical volume. In my case, that would mean the /dev directory. This isn't very nice, because there's not enough disk space in there for me to store a large snapshot. So when I run a command like lvcreate --size 1G --snapshot --name snapshot /dev/lvmData/usr, I need an additional 1G of space free in /dev? Is there any way to specify a different directory in which to store my snapshot?

  • Can't reset BackInTime snapshot path

    I've been using BackInTime with Ubuntu 12.04. The disk I was saving to is no longer available. BackInTime insists that I bring it back. (It says "Can't find snapshots folder. If it is on a removable drive please plug it and then press OK") No matter what I've tried, I can't seem to get beyond this point. I've even tried removing BackInTime and re-installing it. The problem persists. How can I change the snapshots path without the missing disk? ---Jack

    I botched a transfer of a VM from one harddisk to the other. Now I'm left with the base vdi and a whole bunch of snapshots. My steps Copied old VM directory over to new HDD Deleted old VM and added new VM using using Machine-add and providing the old XML file Couldn't add base vdi file due to conflict so changed the UUID of base vdi with VBOXMANGE.EXE internalcommands sethduuid <path/to/vdi> Attempt to rollback to a snapshot, but it seems the VM is looking for the snapshots on the old HDD (which is formatted and gone) This is the error (networked is the name): Failed to restore the snapshot networked of the virtual machine lfs. Could not open the medium 'H:\vm\ft.vdi'. VD: error VERR_PATH_NOT_FOUND opening image file 'H:\vm\ft.vdi' (VERR_PATH_NOT_FOUND). Result Code: E_FAIL (0x80004005) Component: Medium Interface: IMedium {53f9cc0c-e0fd-40a5-a404-a7a5272082cd} The old HDD was drive H: the new one is drive N: How can I modify the snapshots/VM to look in N:\vm\ft.vdi for the base vdi?   • Cannot destroy ZFS snapshot: dataset already exists

    I have a server (T5220, though I doubt it matters) running Solaris 10 8/07 and I have a ZFS pool, "mysql", on internal disk. Within it I have a filesystem "mysql/data/4.1.12", which I snapshot hourly with a script from cron. I have one snapshot, created as one of those hourly snaps, that will not destroy. I have renamed it out of sequence to be "mysql/data/4.1.12@wibble" so that my script will not try and fail to destroy it, but it was originally within the sequence, though I doubt that matters. It renames successfully. The snapshot can be successfully navigated and read from through the .zfs/snapshots directory. It has no clones based on it. Trying to destroy it does this: (265) root@web-mysql4:/# zfs destroy mysql/data/4.1.12@wibble cannot destroy 'mysql/data/4.1.12@wibble': dataset already exists (266) root@web-mysql4:/# which is apparently nonsensical: of course it already exists, that's the point! Anyone seen anything like this before? Web searches show nothing obviously similar. I can provide patches installed if necessary.

    I have to write a simple demo for amount withdrawl from a joint Bank amount .Andy and Jen holds a joint bank account with number 123 . Suppose they have 100$ in their account .Jen and Andy are operating their account at the same time and both are trying to withdraw 90$ at the time being .My transaction Isolation is set to read-committed and both are able to withdraw money leaving the balance to -(minus)80$ although I have constraint that balance should never be less than 0. I am using hibernate .Is versioning only way to solve this problem or I should go for another Isolation level ?

  • SQL Server Snapshot Replication Subscriber (Editable or Read-Only)

    I need to create a copy of my SQL 2008 R2 Enterprise database and have it located on the same server as the original. I will be using this second copy of the database as the target of a mostly read-only website. I understand that if I create this copy of the database using snapshot replication that all data changes in the subscriber database will be overwriten in the event of the next replication. The web application will try to write to this database to record login attempts, etc and will fail if its source database is read-only. In my case I do not need to keep these auditing records and they can therefore be overwriten each time a new snapshot is applied. My question is whether SQL Server forces the subcriber database to be read-only and is there any way around this? Thank you, Nate

  • Restoring WordPress EC2 instance from snapshot results in 403 Forbidden error

    This problem has been perplexing me for weeks now. Here's how the issue goes: Launch Amazon Linux 64-bit instance, successfully install WordPress, and site is active w/ no issues Create snapshot of the instance's root volume Shut down instance Create volume from snapshot, attach to instance, and reboot instance Associate Elastic IP with instance Once that's done and I try logging onto the site, I am redirected to myurl.com/wp-admin/install.php and greeted with this message: Forbidden: You don't have permission to access /wp-admin/install.php on this server. Apache/2.2.25 (Amazon) Server at www.myurl.com Port 80 Port 80 is open on the inbound security group settings, so that's not the issue. Keep in mind all I am doing is merely creating a new volume and attaching it to the same instance, and this issue comes up. What am I doing wrong, and how can I create a complete backup of my instance without this error occuring?

I've just installed mssql 2008 sp1 x64 on windows 7 RTM, and have the problem with creating snapshots, whenever I try to launch the snapshot agent (i.e. to setup transactional replication publication), it throws the error that 'the file is missing'. I have looked into c:\program files\microsoft sql server\100\com and there are no executable files at all, like snapshot.exe! I tried a crazy move to copy all the files from my mssql 2005 com folder, without replacing ofcourse, and now it doesn't give an error, but says 'starting' all the time, but nothing happens. (Now I have removed those files again) I have all of the relevant features installed. So please help me figure out what to do now! Thanks! Dmitri.

Whenever we are at the point in our release cycle where we want to begin testing on staging I want to copy the production DB over to our staging server. I have setup snapshot replication to do this and have setup the staging server to have a pull subscription to the production DB. I want my continuous integration server to be able to kick off this process. How do I programmatically trigger a snapshot to be created and replicated? If there is a way to trigger this process is there a way to know when it's finished?

  • Transaction Isolation Level of Serializable not working for me

    I have a website which is used by all branches of a store and what it does is that it records customer purchases into a table called myTransactions.myTransactions table has a column named SerialNumber.For each purchase i create a record in the transactions table and assign a serial to it.The stored procedure that does this calls a UDF function to get a new serialNumber before inserting the record.Like below : Create Procedure mytransaction_Insert as begin insert into myTransactions(column1,column2,column3,...SerialNumber) values( Value1 ,Value2,Value3,...., getTransactionNSerialNumber()) end Create function getTransactionNSerialNumber as begin RETURN isnull(SELECT TOP (1) SerialNumber FROM myTransactions READUNCOMMITTED ORDER BY SerialNumber DESC),0) + 1 end The website is being used by so many users in different stores at the same time and it is creating many duplicate serialNumbers(same SerialNumbers).So i added a Sql transaction with ReadCommitted level to the transaction and i still got duplicate transaction numbers.I changed it to SERIALIZABLE in order to lock the resources and i not only got duplicate transaction numbers(!!HOW!!) but i also got sporadic deadlocks between the same stored procedure calls.This is what i tried : (With ommissions of try catch blocks and rollbacks) Create Procedure mytransaction_Insert as begin SET TRANSACTION ISOLATION LEVEL SERIALIZABLE BEGIN TRASNACTION ins insert into myTransactions(column1,column2,column3,...SerialNumber) values( Value1 ,Value2 , Value3, ...., getTransactionNSerialNumber()) COMMIT TRANSACTION ins SET TRANSACTION ISOLATION READCOMMITTED end I even copied the function that gets the serial number directly into the stored procedure instead of the UDF function call and still got duplicate serialNumbers.So,How can a stored procedure line create something Like the c# lock() {} block. By the way,i have to implement the transaction serial number using the same pattern and i can't change the serialNumber to any other identity field or whatever.And for some reasons i need to generate the serialNumber inside the databse and i can't move SerialNumber generation to application level.   • Strict security and virtual host isolation with Nginx?

    I currently have an Apache web server set up under which each virtual host is isolated using HTTPD-ITK and the AppArmor module. Each virtual host's workers are setuid/setgid by the server and are then placed in an AppArmor profile. I'm looking to use Nginx but I can't find any documentation on setting it up so that rather than the worker processes being shared between all virtual hosts, worker processes are per virtual host (and thus can be setuid / setgid). Is there any way to do this under Nginx?

    We have a small number of projects where we expect the client will not be maintaining the installed versions of applications we install to power the site (such as Drupal). Given that an important part of security is keeping things updated, we don't want to host these projects on our Plesk-powered dedicated servers that currently host lots of our other client's websites. Our goal is to find a host where we can deploy isolated instances (be these slices, virtual servers, grid servers, etc) for each individual (or groups of 2-3) web sites as we need them. These instances would be completely separate, so that if one web site were hacked it would not impact any other site. Typical hosting requirements: Linux Apache PHP 5 MySQL Supports Drupal Ability to setup a cron task (but we don't need SSH access) Daily backups Virtualized/cloud hosting (we want to avoid shared) Pricing per site is around $25/month OS is patched automatically Some options we have considered but won't work: MediaTemple: Two major data center-wide security incidents and recent downtime foster doubt about this host's technical ability. Slicehost: This would require us to manage the entire server, which we don't want to do. Rackspace Cloud Sites (formerly Mosso): No backup options. Do you have any recommended hosting options for given these requirements?

I would like to get snapshot ONLY when motion is detected, but it still saves a picture every second without any activity in front of the camera.
