  I am having trouble getting an "out of the box" openldap server working. The examples on the openldap site stiull refer to the slapd.conf file, but the install does not make that. if I start the server (service slapd start) I do not get any errors, but cannot connect ldap_sasl_bind(SIMPLE): Can't contact LDAP server (-1) anyone have a simple howto for v2.4 ? I am on fedora15, installed openldap-servers and clients via yum. I have phpldapadmin installed that I can try and connect with once I can get the command line working

• Symantec Gateway Security 320 VPN/Port Forwarding trouble

  How do I check to see if port forward is enabled with one of my dynamic tunnels on this device? I'm having trouble using a feature in our software that requires a vpn to be used. My firewalls shows it as connected but I'm unable to ping the subnet ip. Our software vendor told me that port forwarding might be causing this problem, but I didn't set up this network I'm on and I don't fully know symantec hardware.

  Using VMware Data Recovery 1.1, backing up to CIFS share and getting this error 1/18/2010 8:55:31 AM: Performing incremental back up of disk "Lun VM/VM-DB1-flat.vmdk" using "SCSI Hot-Add" 1/18/2010 8:55:32 AM: Trouble writing to destination volume, error -1020 ( sharing violation) Integrity checks of the destination complete successfully and I tried rebooting the VDR appliance just in case. To resolve the issue I removed the share from the VDR, pointed the backups to other destinations and renamed the VMware Data Recovery subfolder in the destination, then re-added the share and pointed the backups, this of course creates a new Backup Store. Anyone have any ideas why this error is occuring, means I can't backup into this Backup Store any longer.

When it is virtualized, it will run on XP, but not on Windows 7. Looking at the trace file, you see that they are different right from the start when comparing Windows 7 and XP tracefiles. What could cause it to go in completely different directions? (And why does the tracefile on Windows 7 say: Operating System Unknown? Does everybody have that on Windows 7 even with 4.5?) The error message is: "Object variable or with block variable not set".   Im Running on Centos, the trouble is when i restart my server i need to start my apache and varnish service I use this to start both of them service httpd restart && service varnish restart But i would likw both of them to start when i reboot the server I read i could use this chkconfig httpd on But this is only for apache could i do this chkconfig varnish on Finally when i do y usual start of httpd , i am asked for my api key for SSL , am i able to incorporate this into resarting both varnish and httpd on start up. • After installing Win7 on my laptop I'm having trouble extending the desktop to an external monitor

  I have a HP TX2000 laptop and a HP w2408 screen. Yesterday, I installed Win7 and I'm having trouble having the 24 inches screen work as a secondary screen. It seems like my laptop cannot detect both screens (its own and the 24 inches one). I think I already have all the drivers installed (I ran Win7's tool to detect and automatically update drivers and it said everything was up to date!), so what might be the problem? If I connect the 24 inch screen to my laptop, it will happily show a copy of what is being shown on that big screen too, but I'd like to have it ''extend'' the desktop to the big screen, instead.

• Ant trouble with environment variables on Ubuntu

  Having some trouble with with ant reading environment variables in Ubuntu 9.1. Specifically, the build tasks my company uses has a token like ${env.CATALINA_HOME] in the main build.xml. I set CATALINA_HOME to the correct value in /etc/environment, ~/.pam_environment and (just to be safe) my .bashrc. I can see the correct value when I run printenv from bash, or when I eval (getenv "CATALINA_HOME") in emacs. Ant refuses to build to the correct directory though; instead I get a folder named ${env.CATALINA_HOME} in the same directory as my build.xml. Any idea what's happening there, and/or how to fix it?

I've read here: http://www.andreas-demmer.de/en/2010/07/18/testbericht-linux-auf-dem-hp-envy-14 that I should be able to turn off one the cards by echoing keywords into /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch, but that path is not available on my system. The BIOS does not have any methods to switch of the ATI card. Help anyone? /Carsten

• Having trouble getting startup scripts to work in Server 2003

  Thanks for taking the time to read this. I am having trouble getting my startup scripts to run correctly on the domain I am administering. Before anyone gets upset and says "go read xxx article from microsoft",... I have. I am simply missing something or not understanding it properly. I understand how to assign the script, what I am curious about is where exactly it should be placed in the Windows folder structure. I have been able to get them to work by creating a share folder called "scripts" and pointing to that exact unc pathname IE \servername\scripts\xxx.bat. However, I would like to do it properly, would someone please tell me where they should be placed in Win2003 server, and what the path name should be when assigning a group policy to do something that applies to computer specific properties? Your assistance is very much appreciated by a junior admin trying to learn some new tricks!

• Trouble with installing VMWare-Player 3

  After downloading the VMware-Player 3 from the VMware-Site I wanted to install it; because I used an older VMware-Player the system wanted this to be deinstalled this version first. After starting the deinstallation I had trouble with my machine - shutdown - now I have no proper deinstallation of the older VMware-Player and everytime, I want to install the 3.0, I get an error-message. Is there any possibility, to clean up the rest of the older installation (3-4 processes are still active or are starting again, when I try to close them and therefore I can't delete different .dll-files by hand)? • Trouble installing Mercurial 1.5 on Mac OS X 10.5.8 (without using MacPorts)

  I'm having trouble installing Mercurial 1.5 (build 20100307) from the prebuilt installer on Mac OS X 10.5.8. The installer is halting telling me that I need to install Python 2.6 to continue. I've installed the latest version of Python (2.6.5) twice now but it's not helping. which python is reporting /Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.6/bin/python, but I can see that I also have 2.3 and 2.5 in /System/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions directory, which I suspect is being picked up by the installer ahead of the 2.6 install. If possible I'd like to install Mercurial and Python without having to resort to MacPorts, but if that is the only option then so be it :)

• Trouble migrating Joomla from Linux to Windows server

  I'm having some trouble migrating a Joomla website from a Linux server to a Windows server. The database came over fine, Besides that, all I've done is download all the files from the current site, and change configuration.php so the log and tmp directories show "./tmp/" and "./logs/" I keep having an error in the PHP log stating PHP Fatal error: Class 'JTable' not found I've downloaded the site multiple times now, and I'm convinced this is a configuration problem, and not a missing file problem. I've even tried installing a mod for backup on the linux box to try and migrate the site, but sadly the mod had problems installing. The new server is running IIS 7.5 on Windows Web Server.   Hello, we're using php-fpm and have trouble getting the scripts to work if we change the 'root' value in nginx.conf. location ~ \.php$ { root /usr/share/nginx/html ; If we change that root to point to other directory, even if it's /usr/share/nginx/html/crap, it wouldn't work. The directory exists of course. It's like it can read the file in that directory, but not execute it. I've checked all file permissions. Anyone has any idea?

• Trouble with external monitor under Windows 7 on MacBook Pro Boot Camp

  I'm running Windows 7 32-bit on a mid-2010 15" MacBook Pro Intel Core i5 under Boot Camp. I've had trouble getting it to work with my second display and searching Google for an appropriate answer has failed me. I'm on the latest version of Boot Camp - 3.2 - and have updated the drivers for the NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M. The monitor is connected via a VGA cable, and is a Dell ST2410. The monitor is recognised by Windows, which knows it's a Dell and its resolution. The desktop should be extended onto the second monitor - however nothing is showing. It remains black, though it doesn't show a lack of signal coming through which I would have expected. Any ideas what's wrong?

  I am running ubuntu 11.10 I have one machine with gmetad, gmond and ganglia-webinterface. When I browse the web interface this machine picks up the local gmond output. I then added another machine, running only gmond. I didn't really change anything in the config, only the name of the cluster. This machine's output showed up in the web view. The I tried to add a third machine, similarly to the second, but it's not showing up in the web view. I tried looking at syslog and running as a daemon, but I'm not seeing anything suspicious there. Any tips for trouble shooting this?

• trouble loggin into a Mac share from a Windows PC on the network

  I have this mixed network and usually log into the Macs from the Windows XP home machines and vice versa. I have no real networking knowledge, things just seem to work, more or less, with the default settings. Now I've got a new Snow Leopard Mac with a shared folder (added the user names of the Windows users at the sharing preferences) and the trouble is some machines can open the share and others can't. I can't see the difference. It feels like some Windows machines have a "cache" and won't ask for the share password, just deny access. I can also see old shares proposed at the Windows "add network place wizard".
