• Why some links appear in a new tab, others in a new window?

  Originally, it was made to resolve problems on IE8 32 bits when you use a 32 bits OS. I changed "%ProgramFiles(x86)%" var, and now my issue is resolved for IE8 32 bits on my Windows 7 64 bits.   I have a website where you can search for a brands, item, and content inside my web. It was designed with tab for each search type, but I want to make the url when changing the tab user friendly and good for SEO. Is it better to have a url for search result like this www.example.com/search/{search_keyword}/{tab} or www.example.com/search/{search_keyword}?tab={tab} or www.example.com/search/?search={search_keyword}&tab={tab} where {search_keyword} is the keyword that user input, and {tab} is either brands / item / content, because when I look at facebook, stackoverflow, and some other website, they use query string for their search keyword Edit My past url is only www.example.com/search/{search_keyword}, and I just added the tab design recently. Consider that I should go with option 1 from the above option, should I make www.example.com/search/{search_keyword} the default for 1 of the 3 tab, and make the other 2 tab with www.example.com/search/{search_keyword}/{tab} to retain the score for the page, or should I make all the tab url with www.example.com/search/{search_keyword}/{tab} and use a permanent redirect from www.example.com/search/{search_keyword} to one of the url tab

• Create a Customized Tab on the Office 2010 Ribbon

  Some MS Office users were put off a bit by the Ribbon feature in 2007 for being cumbersome and confusing. Today we look at a cool new feature in Office 2010 that allows you to create your own custom tabs with specific commands for easier document creation. Create a Customized Tab In our example we’re using Word, but you can create a custom tab in the other Office apps as well. To do so, right-click on the Ribbon and select Customize the Ribbon. The Word Options screen opens up and from here you can manage a lot of customization options. We want to create a new customized tab, so click on the New Tab button.   Now give it a name… Now just drag the commands you want to add from the left column over to your new custom group. You have every command available to choose from. You can select specific groups or all commands from the dropdown menu on the left. That is all there is to it…now you have your own customized tab with the commands you use most often to help you work more efficiently. In this example We didn’t add a whole lot of commands, but you can customize it with as many as you need. You can also create other tabs with different sets of commands too. When you create a customized tab in one application, it’s only going to be in that app. For example if you create on in Word, it’s not going to show in Excel as commands differ between apps. If you want a custom tab in another Office app you’ll need to create one for it. Another very cool thing you can do is export the customizations to use on another machine or pass them to a coworker. To export the customizations, go to the Customize Ribbon section and at the bottom of the right field click Import/Export then Export all customizations. Then save the file to a location on your hard drive.   To import the settings to another machine, go into Ribbon Customizations and select Import customizations file… then browse the the file you exported. You’ll be prompted to confirm you want to import he customizations… After confirming the choice now you’ll see the customization show up on the other machine. This is very handy if you work on several machines throughout the day and want to easily bring your customized tabs with you. If you find yourself using a lot of specific commands throughout the day, creating your own customized tab will help access them more quickly.   SharePoint list items have in the the base Item template a field named Order. This field is not shown by default. SharePoint 2007, 2010 and 2013 have a possibility to specify the order in a UI, using the _layouts page: {SiteUrl}/_layouts/Reorder.aspx?List={ListId} In SharePoint 2010 and 2013 it is possible to add a custom action to a list. It is possible to add a custom action to order list items as follows (SharePoint 2010 description): Open SharePoint Designer 2010 Navigate to a list Select Custom Actions > List Item Menu Fill in the dialog box: Open List Settings > Advanced Settings > Content Types, and set Allow management of content types to No  On List Settings select Column Ordering This results in the following UI in the browser: Selecting the custom Order Items action (under List Tools > Items) results in: You can change your custom action in SharePoint designer. On the list screen in the bottom right corner you can find the custom action: We now need to modify the view to include the order by adding the Order field to the view, and sorting on the Order field. Problem is that the Order field is hidden. It is possible to modify the schema of the Order field to set the Hidden attribute to FALSE.   Does anyone know of a Firefox plugin that would enable tab-completion (or some other key sequence like Alt-L) of items in drop-down lists in web forms? e.g. ou<TAB>in<TAB>s<TAB> for 'OurCompany - Internal Support' Vimperator's hints mode makes it very ergonomic to focus the drop-down list with a key sequence like f13 but the keyboard interface to the drop-down list still sucks. I very frequently have to pick items from a very long list with very long common prefixes among the entries (e.g. 30-40 starting with OurCompany -), which renders both the built-in keyboard interface and the mouse pretty slow and unergonomic. I basically want readline support for filling webforms!

• Ensuring a repeatable directory ordering in linux

  I run a hosted continuous integration company, and we run our customers' code on Linux. Each time we run the code, we run it in a separate virtual machine. A frequent problem that arises is that a customer's tests will sometimes fail because of the directory ordering of their code checked out on the VM. Let me go into more detail. On OSX, the HFS+ file system ensures that directories are always traversed in the same order. Programmers who use OSX assume that if it works on their machine, it must work everywhere. But it often doesn't work on Linux, because linux file systems do not offer ordering guarantees when traversing directories. As an example, consider there are 2 files, a.rb, b.rb. a.rb defines MyObject, and b.rb uses MyObject. If a.rb is loaded first, everything will work. If b.rb is loaded first, it will try to access an undefined variable MyObject, and fail. But worse than this, is that it doesn't always just fail. Because the file system ordering on Linux is not ordered, it will be a different order on different machines. This is worse because sometimes the tests pass, and sometimes they fail. This is the worst possible result. So my question is, is there a way to make file system ordering repeatable. Some flag to ext4 perhaps, that says it will always traverse directories in some order? Or maybe a different file system that has this guarantee?

  I know Firefox extensions that allow protecting (cannot be closed) and locking (cannot change URL) tabs. What I need is an extension that locks a tab to a certain domain or URL pattern. For example, I want to lock a tab to the domain example.com. As long as I follow links that are within this domain the tab should show normal (unlocked) behavior, but if I follow a link to another domain the link should be opened in new tab -- leaving the locked tab open with a URL within the locked domain. Even better would be the functionality to lock a tab to a URL pattern. If a URL matches the pattern it is opened in the current tab, otherwise it is opened in a new tab. Do you know something (preferably an extension for FF 8.0) that provides this kind of functionality.

  Please I am trying to assign each button on the left its own Tab control. • Multi-tab application (C#)

  Hi, I'm creating a multi-tabbed .NET application that allows the user to dynamically add and remove tabs at runtime. When a new tab is added, a control is added to it (as a child), in which the contents can be edited (eg. a text box). The user can perform tasks on the currently visible text box using a toolbar/menu bar. To better explain this, look at the picture below to see an example of what I want to accomplish. It's just a mock-up, so it doesn't actually work that way, but it shows what I want to get done. Essentially, like a multi-tabbed Notepad. • JQuery UI Tabs - replace tab and contents

  What is the best way to replace the currently selected tab and its contents? The content is dynamically generated with jquery, not loaded via a URL. I need to do this from outside of any tab code or tab event handler (show, add, etc.). There is a link elsewhere on the page that should do the following when clicked: Change the tab's title Change the tab's className Clear out all elements of the tabcontent div Change the tabcontent div's className Generate new content inside the tabcontent div Note that the only reference this link's click() handler has is to the JQuery tabs object ($Tabs). I can get the selected tab with $Tabs.tabs('option','selected'). But how can I get a reference to the selected tab's tab and panel? Inside of a jquery tab handler (show, add, etc.), I have access to ui.tab and ui.panel, but is there a way to get them from a tabs option? Would it be better to simply remove the currently selected tab and then add a new tab in the same index location? I'd have to put the code to generate the tab content into the add() handler then I suppose.
