  • Problems with synaptic touchpad

    The "enhanced" features of the synaptics touchpad (ie scroll, pinch zoom) on my windows 7 64 bit dell studio 17 only work intermittently. This was an issue with the original OEM driver and also with the new driver from synaptics - please do not suggest that i update, reinstall, install as administrator, check or jiggle the driver - if i hear that one more time i will freak out. I have researched this for days and appears to be a common problem without a solution (many suggestions to update the driver though -argh). Dell and synaptics have not been helpful. I have checked that syntpehn.exe and syntphelper.exe are running (sometimes the UAC seems to block syntpehn.exe from running at startup). When the touchpad fails i can still use it to control the pointer and access the synaptics settings although some of the options are disabled (greyed out or simply unresponsive). It is the only pointing device i have installed - i had a logitech trackball attached but have uninstalled all software and drivers (including hidden devices) as per synaptic. It is also the only device using IRQ 12. Any help would be greatly appreciated except "update the driver".

    I installed ubuntu 12.04 LTS 3 days ago and since then wireless feature and touchpad gestures are not working. Tried everything on internet but still unsuccessful. I cant upgrade to ubuntu 12.10.   • Getting the Dell XPS 16 Synaptics touchpad to work after hibernation in Ubuntu.

    I am currently experimenting with using Ubuntu as a my main OS instead of Windows 7. So far, pretty much everything is working fine, except for an issue that I am having with my touchpad. I have a Dell XPS 16 (1640) with a Synaptics touchpad. It works out of the box, but it seems that it stops working after returning from hibernation mode. This problem has also been addressed in an earlier bug, but judging from this bugreport, it should be fixed by now. I am running the 2.6.35-23-generic-pae kernel. Any ideas?

    I recently installed Ubuntu 12.04 on my laptop and it works great, except after the initial reboot my touchpad cursor shakes violently when I hold my finger completely still on the pad.It works fine with a regular mouse plugged in. I couldn't find much scouting around the internet except that it might be that my touchpad doesn't have any dead zones? I am very new to Ubuntu and am fairly computer savvy, but I don't know a lot about using the terminal or anything like that, so if you could dumb down a fix for this as much as possible for me, I'd greatly appreciate it.

    Sometimes for no reason that I can observe my Synaptics touchpad will stop responding to scroll the scroll function (I swipe my finger down the right side). I then have to reboot to get it back. Does anyone know how to fix this? Preferably without upgrading the driver - I upgraded the driver before and it turned out to be crap. I don't want to do that again.   • Laptop touchpad works incorrect when on power supply

    My original laptop adapter broke down, so I've baught a new one. It's a no-brand adapter from a dutch internet shop. The power of the new adapter is slightly more than the old adapter, but in my opinion that shouldn't be a problem. The laptop is a Toshiba Sattelite L40-15B. When the old adapter broke down due to short circuit, this laptop was connected. When the adapter is unplugged, the touchpad works correctly and smoothly. But as soon as it is connected, the cursor moves jumpy, and response badly. Does anyone know where this problem comes from, and if there's a solution?

    Couple of days ago, i installed the Windows 8.1 Pro WMC and all of a sudden the touchpad gesture, which worked like a charm back in Win 8.1 preview, Win 8 and even Win 7, just stopped working. I am talking about the "Three Finger Flick" feature, which is used to go back and forward in folders and/or internet browsers at first i didnt even have the left edge pull feature, but then i added some values in this key into regedit, and now i have it [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Synaptics\SynTPEnh\ZoneConfig\TouchPadPS2\Left Edge Pull] I Googled that, i didnt know what to do by myself and i dont know where to write and what to write anything in order to get the three finger flick back too I installed various versions of drivers starting from about version 15 to the version 17.0.8.0 (the one that i currently have), and even though i have all the other gestures, taps and swipes working they are not in the device settings, there is no multitouch gestures in device settings so thats why i guess i have to write something in regedit, but again, i dont know what to write, and where to write. please help me if you can

    I have a huge problem with ElanTech touchpad. Without the ElanTech driver both the keys can be used at the same time(R+L). This is usefull in games like Mafia2 (can't play without it). When I install their driver I get the gestures, scrolling etc. but I can't use both keys at the same time. It is a common problem.     My mouse cursor disables for 1-2 seconds when the keyboard is used. This can make gaming especially difficult. The touchpad is fine; I can use it at the same time as the keyboard. Doing some forum searching, I can see that going to mouse and touchpad touchpad disable touchpad when typing works for the touchpad, but I still have the problem when using the mouse. I've tried using synaptiks, and setting the 'automatically switch off touchpad on keyboard activity' time to 0 seconds doesn't seem to work either. I'd appreciate any help.

Right now I'm doing this via a one-liner that's called at session start (added via gnome-session-properties): xinput --set-prop --type=int --format=32 11 252 1781 5125 1646 4582 This works fine, but feels like a hack. What's the recommended way to edit/set touchpad device properties like this one? Few years ago I'd have put that into the xorg.conf, but this seems to be discouraged nowadays.

Everywhere I've looked on the internet is telling me to go to Device Pointer Properties Settings Pointing Sensitivity Palm Check and adjust those Palm Check settings, but that option isn't there and it isn't anywhere else. I've also read about going to something called "Smart Sense" but I didn't see that either. If someone could please help me, I would really appreciate it.

  • Touchpad hardware button disables keyboard too

    I have an old but nice Samsung X50 running MM which has a key between the touchpad buttons which disables the touchpad. Very nice, no-one like to brush against the touchpad while typing. It seems to be a hardware feature -- a BIOS style window appears at the top left of the screen when you press it saying "touchpad off"; and when you press it again it says "touchpad on", and so it is, but now the keyboard has no effect in X, I can type nothing except to meta-ctl F1 to the console. After a reboot the problem persists; and the only way I have found to fix it is to blow away .gconf are replace it with a copy I made in happier times. Deleting/modifying .gconf/desktop/gnome/peripherals/touchpad/%gconf.xml does not fix the problem. There is no way to turn off the switch in BIOS without losing the touchpad. I would prise the thing out with a screwdriver if I could, but it's a work machine. This button is the bane of my life, hanging over me like a sword of Damocles.

    I can turn the touchpad off in the mouse settings, but two things won't work: The "disable while typing" option The standard on/off button for the touch pad won't work (it's the one with the little touchpad symbol crossed off, on the F6 key). I've tried any of the following combinations: Alt+F6 Fn+F6 Ctrl+F6 Super+F6 Shift+F6. Almost all the other keys of that kind work, like brightness control, volume control, Wifi toggle, but this one and the mic off and camera off won't work.

On the Windows side, the driver allows you to set how close your finger has to be to the edge of the TouchPad before it goes into scroll mode. In Ubuntu I don't have the option (at least in the GUI) to change the scroll area on the pad. Is there a conf file or other way to change this? I'm constantly getting into the scroll area during normal usage. I would like to leave it on without losing so much pad area to the scroll feature.

But when I try to scoll, or tap nothing happens. Even after running killall syndaemon nothing happens. Has anybody an idea?     Hi! The problem is: How to access x,y,z coordinates of my touchpad? Now that SHMConfig is disabled by default, I've found out that, in order to do it, I need to access a file from /dev/input/. Those files are, sadly, readable by root only. Is there any way to access the touchpad while in user-mode?

  • HP Mini 210 -> Touchpad doesn't work on Ubuntu

    Specifically, I can neither click nor right-click by using the the touch pad. The touch pad has buttons built-into it, which is why it probably doesn't work by default. If you followed my previous post, I switched to ubuntu to get wireless working on this netbook (which it does, yay), but now I can't right click. Lovely. Any suggesions? I installed gsynaptics and enabled SHMConfig, but that didn't do any good.
