    Visual Studio 2010 has no longer uses .vsprops files and instead uses .props files. To include a .vsprops file in a Visual Studio 2008 project, one could right-click the project icon in the Solution Explorer panel, choose Properties, go to the Configuration Properties | General section, and modify the Inherited Project Property Sheets property to contain a list of .vsprops paths. One could also modify the Visual Studio 2008 project file directly. Is there a way in the Visual Studio 2010 GUI to include .props files to a project? The Inherited Project Property Sheets property seems to have been removed. If manual editing of the project file is the only way to include .props files, where can one find documentation on doing it? I'm not talking about adding a .props file to the list of files in the project, I mean how do I tell the project to use a .props file.

  • Visual Studio / Visual Source Safe / Integrated Security / IIS 7

    Using Visual Source Safe with IIS integration (the working dir is the IIS site) Visual Studio, pointed to the IIS site would load up the Web project. It would be under VSS control (have to check out files, etc). Recently, we had to switch to Integrated Security for our database connections from the web app. This means changing the impersonation of the IIS app pool (and anon authentication) to the impersonated account. Since I did this -- my project loads in Visual Studio, but it acts as if I'm not me, and the files aren't under source control anymore. I'm going to assume it's something with the pass-through from IIS to the VSS (as if you'll remember you had to add IIS_USERS to the VSS list of users). Even trying to add the impersonated account didn't work. Any ideas?

  • Way to update / refresh / reschedule project plan after adding a vacation / changing calendar

    I had created a project plan using MS-Project 2010 (not server). I had set the task schedule mode to "Auto Scheduled" and entered the necessary tasks. Since it is a single person project I also added one person to the Resource of the file and assigned that resource to all the tasks and leveled the project. After the plan was put in and tasks were leveled I figured the calendar was not correctly set (in UAE the weekend is Friday and Saturday instead of Saturday and Sunday). So, I updated the default calendar (Standard) of the project by going to Project-Change Working Time-Work Weeks and changed them as needed. But after doing this, the tasks are still scheduled over Friday and Saturday even though I have marked them as nonworking days in the standard calendar. I tried the following for the tasks to refresh, but I was not successful: Updated all tasks to use the "Standard" calendar in the project Selected option so that tasks do not ignore resource calendars Added a constraint "As Soon As Possible" Executed "Level All" Any help on solving this issue would be much appreciated, thanks in advance.

    Hi, this is a very newbie question, sorry! I need to create an aspx website based con C# and am calling some webservices based on some DLL's I already have. Beforem purchasing Visual Studio, I decided to try Microsoft Visual Web Developer Express (is this ok?) creating a Web Application ASP.NET based on Visual C#. I created the form to enter the data which is submitted when clicking the process button. At this point I need to call stuff from the DLL, which I have added in the Solution Explorer via Add Reference, selecting the DLL from the COM list. But whenever I run the project, I always get the error "the type or namespace xxx cannot be found - maybe a using directive or assembler directive is missing" when trying to create the object. What is my stupid mistake? Thanks!

    I want to display an image when printing a page from MS Page using the FilePageSetupHeader. It all works fine if I pass in the parameter for the Text property as a string as such FilePageSetupHeader Alignment:=pjRight, Text:="&P""C:\filepath\image.gif""" However, I'd prefer to be able to pass the filepath to the image to display as a variable. Somehow I can't get it right. So if I try something like the following: vImagePath = """&P""""" & prjFilePath & "\image.gif"""""" FilePageSetupHeader Alignment:=pjRight, Text:=vImagePath it just displays the path as a string. I'm pretty sure it boils down to something simple like escaping the quotes in the correct way, but I've been playing around with it for a while now and I can't seem to get it right. Any idea how this works?

    The program evaluation and review technique (PERT) shows relationships between defined tasks in a project without taking into consideration a time line. This chart is an excellent way to identify dependencies of tasks based on other tasks. This chart allows project managers to identify the critical path of a project to minimize any time delays to the project. According to Craig Borysowich in his article “Pros & Cons of the PERT/CPM Method stated the following advantages and disadvantages: “PERT/CPM has the following advantages: A PERT/CPM chart explicitly defines and makes visible dependencies (precedence relationships) between the WBS elements, PERT/CPM facilitates identification of the critical path and makes this visible, PERT/CPM facilitates identification of early start, late start, and slack for each activity, PERT/CPM provides for potentially reduced project duration due to better understanding of dependencies leading to improved overlapping of activities and tasks where feasible.  PERT/CPM has the following disadvantages: There can be potentially hundreds or thousands of activities and individual dependency relationships, The network charts tend to be large and unwieldy requiring several pages to print and requiring special size paper, The lack of a timeframe on most PERT/CPM charts makes it harder to show status although colors can help (e.g., specific color for completed nodes), When the PERT/CPM charts become unwieldy, they are no longer used to manage the project.” (Borysowich, 2008) Traditionally PERT charts are used in the initial planning of a project like in a project that is utilizing the waterfall approach. Once the chart was created then project managers could further analyze this data to determine the earliest start time for each stage in the project. This is important because this information can be used to help forecast resource needs during a project and where in the project. However, the agile environment can approach this differently because of their constant need to be in contact with the client and the other stakeholders.  The PERT chart can also be used during project iteration to determine what is to be worked on next, such as a prioritized To-Do list a wife would give her husband at the start of a weekend. In my personal opinion, the COTS-centric environment would not really change how a company uses a PERT chart in their day to day work. The only thing I can is that there would be less tasks to include in the chart because the functionally milestones are already completed when the components are purchased.     I am using vb to send emails through outlook. Currently we have a mix of outlook versions at our office: 2010 and 2013 with a mix of 32 bit and 64 bit (a mess, I know). The code I have works well for Outlook 2010: Private Sub btnEmail_Click(sender As System.Object, e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnEmail.Click CreateMailItem() End Sub Private Sub CreateMailItem() Dim application As New Application Dim mailItem As Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook.MailItem = CType(application.CreateItem( _ Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook.OlItemType.olMailItem), Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook.MailItem) 'Me.a(Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook.OlItemType.olMailItem) mailItem.Subject = "This is the subject" mailItem.To = "[email protected]" mailItem.Body = "This is the message." mailItem.Importance = Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook.OlImportance.olImportanceLow mailItem.Display(True) End Sub However, I cannot get this to work for 2013. I have referenced the version 15 dll for 2013 and it seems to be backward compatible, but when I try to use the above code for 2013 (it is 64 bit) it says it cannot start Microsoft Outlook. A program error has occured. This is happening on the application Dim statement line. I have tried googling around but there doesn't seem to be much out there referencing 2013 but I feel that the problem here probably has more to do with 64 bit than the software version.   • Visual Basic link to SQL output to Word

    I am in need of some advice/references. I am currently trying to develop a legal document interface. There are certain fields in which I need to query out of my sql db and have those fields output into a document that can be printed. I am trying to develop a user interface where people can enter fields that will output to a document template but at the same time I need the template to be able to pull data from the SQL database. This is the reason why I think that VB might be my best choice and because it is one of the only OOP languages I am familiar with presently. Does anyone know that best way to be able to handle this type of job?? I know that you can use VBA within MS Word and have the form output variables to a word template. But, is there a way to have the word document also pull information from the SQL db? Is the best option to use VB linked to SQL and run queries to get the information from the database and then have it output to a for within VB? Is it possible for VB to be linked to a SQL db and output variables and SQL fields to a Word Template? I have looked into Mail Merge and I see that it allows users to pull data from an Access query but I dont think it would be easy to automate and it seems that users would need to have an advanced knowledge of MS Word and Access to handle this. I am not finding much useful information online so I came here. Any advice or references would be greatly appreciated. If there is a better way please let me know.

  • Is Intellisense faster in Visual Studio 2012 compared to Visual Studio 2010 for C++ projects?

    We switched to VS2010 from VS2003 a few months ago, and there are many many improvements. But the speed of Intellisense is not one of them (although it does generate higher quality results, which is great). I read that Intellisense and the MSDN help system were being improved in VS2012, so I'm curious if its actually faster? The only data I could find were graphs of an early release (VS2011). For the record, I am using a vanilla install of VS2010 with SP1 on Windows 7 SP1 (x64). No plugins or add-ins running. What I'm looking for specifically: Has the speed of intellisense autocomplete improved? Has the speed of F12 (goto definition) improved? The answers to these questions will help in determining if VS2012 is worth the money to upgrade at this time as the intellisense slowness would be the only major reason for upgrading. I'd also be interested in knowing if the help system has improved. I'm currently using MSDN help from VS2008SP1 because it has filtering and is faster.

  • Working with Subversion the same as with Visual Source Safe in Visual Studio

    Hi, At work I just started using subversion with ankhsvn instead of visual source safe. I managed to integrate it well enough but it doesn't seem the same. Using VSS the following would happen: A user check out a file by right clicking and selecting "check out" or by editing it. If another user tried to modify the same file he would get an error. No 2 users could edit the same file at the same time. No fancy merging. No conflicts and no conflict resolutions. I understand the the philosophy behind subversion is different but is there any way that this behavior described above could be duplicated with subversion? There is an option in ankhSVN called "Automatically lock files on change..." but even if I activate this option when I edit a file it never gets automatically locked. Even if this option worked the other users wouldn't see the lock until they comited the file. They wouldn't get an error when they tried to edit it like they would in Visual Source Safe. So basically: can Visual Source Safe's behavior be duplicated using Subversion and ankhSVN?

    Common business drivers that lead to creating and sustaining a project include and are not limited to: cost reduction, increased return on investment (ROI), reduced time to market, increased speed and efficiency, increased security, and increased interoperability. These drivers primarily focus on streamlining and reducing cost to make a company more profitable with less overhead. According to Answers.com cost reduction is defined as reducing costs to improve profitability, and may be implemented when a company is having financial problems or prevent problems. ROI is defined as the amount of value received relative to the amount of money invested according to PayperclickList.com.  With the ever increasing demands on businesses to compete in today’s market, companies are constantly striving to reduce the time it takes for a concept to become a product and be sold within the global marketplace. In business, some people say time is money, so if a project can reduce the time a business process takes it in fact saves the company which is always good for the bottom line. The Social Security Administration states that data security is the protection of data from accidental or intentional but unauthorized modification, destruction. Interoperability is the capability of a system or subsystem to interact with other systems or subsystems. In my personal opinion, these drivers would not really differ for a profit-based organization, compared to a non-profit organization. Both corporate entities strive to reduce cost, and strive to keep operation budgets low. However, the reasoning behind why they want to achieve this does contrast. Typically profit based organizations strive to increase revenue and market share so that the business can grow. Alternatively, not-for-profit businesses are more interested in increasing their reach within communities whether it is to increase annual donations or invest in the lives of others. Success or failure of a project can be determined by one or more of these drivers based on the scope of a project and the company’s priorities associated with each of the drivers. In addition, if a project attempts to incorporate multiple drivers and is only partially successful, then the project might still be considered to be a success due to how close the project was to meeting each of the priorities. Continuous evaluation of the project could lead to a decision to abort a project, because it is expected to fail before completion. Evaluations should be executed after the completion of every software development process stage. Pfleeger notes that software development process stages include: Requirements Analysis and Definition System Design Program Design Program Implementation Unit Testing Integration Testing System Delivery Maintenance Each evaluation at every state should consider all the business drivers included in the scope of a project for how close they are expected to meet expectations. In addition, minimum requirements of acceptance should also be included with the scope of the project and should be reevaluated as the project progresses to ensure that the project makes good economic sense to continue.   • Converting VS 2008 template to VS 2010 template

    I've got a project template that works for Visual studio 2008 but when I try to use it for visual studio 2010 I get "...The imported project "C:\program files (x86)\Microsoft\VisualStudio\v9.0\VSSDK\Microsoft.VsSDK.targets" was not found. The only thing I get from that is that it's looking for something in the 2008 SDK (which I have not installed but I would like to port the template to work with the VS 2010 SDK) ANy ideas on what I need to do to get the template working with the 2010 version?

  • VSLauncher starts wrong version

    I have 3 versions of Visual Studio installed, and 3 projects that require a specific version. VSLauncher USED to look at the SLN or VCPROJ file and open the correct version of Visual Studio. Now it only starts the most recent version, regardless of the project. Note that this has nothing to do with the commonly reported problem with beta versions of VS. none of the SLNs have ever been touched by a beta VS.

  • Visual Studio 2010 SQL Server Database Project - Ignore Stored Procedures and Functions

    I really like the new SQL Server Database projects in Visual Studio 2010. I also like using the "Generate DROP statements for objects that are in the target database but that are not in the database project" option in the deployment properties. However, I do not want to manage Stored Procedures and Functions using this interface; I have another tool for that. Every time I do a build and deploy, VS will drop my stored procedures that I have created with my external program. I would like to essentially "ignore" stored procedures and functions. Is there a way to ignore stored procedures and functions when building SQL Server Database projects? I won't be able to use the "Generate DROP statements..." option if I want to use my external tool for stored procedures and functions.

I want to retrieve only numbers from the input string. We can implement it in many ways such as splitting the string into an array or by using TryParse method. I would like to share another idea, that’s by using Regular expressions. All you have to do is, create an instance of Regular Expression with a specified pattern for integer.
