  • Choosing VS2008 .Net 3.5 and .Net 3.5SP1

    here is the problem. I have one PC using VS2008 (SP1 ) and another PC using VS2008(normal). I want my .Net projects to be editable in both these PC's. So naturally my projects use .Net 3.5 by default and not .Net 3.5 SP1. So, Is there a way I can fix my VS2008 (SP1) version to stick to .Net 3.5 and not .Net 3.5 SP1. In project properties-Application-TargetFramework I dont see an option for .Net 3.5 SP1. (Note: I know that there are solution like uninstalling SP1 or Installing SP1 on the other PC. I am asking is there any other way)

    After unsuccessful upgrade of Gnome3 packages in new Precise Pangolin 64-bit environment I get this error: The following packages have unmet dependencies: gnome-shell-extensions : Conflicts: gnome-shell-extensions-user-theme but 3.2.0-2~webupd8~oneiric is to be installed I tried to remove by running sudo apt-get purge gnome-shell-extensions-user-theme but get this: Package gnome-shell-extensions-user-theme is not installed, so not removed My Gnome Classic profile works well but Gnome3 session can't run. How to resolve this error?

    I have been playing around with Gnome Shell from ubuntu 9.10. I installed the preview which is available in Ubuntu 9.10 repositories using sudo apt-get install gnome-shell gnome-shell --replace However I can't figure out how to launch Ubuntu Software Center using it. It just appears to be missing. The software center appears fine in normal gnome. How do you launch the Ubuntu Software Center from Gnome Shell. For those of you who are getting confused, Gnome Shell is the next generation user interface for gnome, it is planned for inclusion as default in Gnome 3.0, there is a preview of it in the Ubuntu 9.10 repositories. I am not interested in how to launch Ubuntu Software Center from the terminal or in how to launch it from the normal gnome interface.

I only can see primary monitor, that's why i'm not able to move windows inside the second screen? I've tried to change some settings in dconf , but with no luck.     I've started learning bash scripting by using this guide: http://www.tldp.org/LDP/abs/abs-guide.pdf However I got stuck at the first script: cd /var/log cat /dev/null > messages cat /dev/null > wtmp echo "Log files cleaned up." What do lines 2 and 3 do in Ubuntu (I understand cat)? Is it only for other Linux distributions? After running this script as root, the output I get is Log files cleaned up. But /var/log still contains all the files.

    I'm (really) newbie to functional programming (in fact only had contact with it using python) but seems to be a good approach for some list-intensive tasks in a shell environment. I'd love to do something like this: $ [ git clone $host/$repo for repo in repo1 repo2 repo3 ] Is there any Unix shell with these kind of feature? Or maybe some feature to allow easy shell access (commands, env/vars, readline, etc...) from within python (the idea is to use python's interactive interpreter as a replacement to bash). EDIT: Maybe a comparative example would clarify. Let's say I have a list composed of dir/file: $ FILES=( build/project.rpm build/project.src.rpm ) And I want to do a really simple task: copy all files to dist/ AND install it in the system (it's part of a build process): Using bash: $ cp ${files[*]} dist/ $ cd dist && rpm -Uvh $(for f in ${files[*]}; do basename $f; done)) Using a "pythonic shell" approach (caution: this is imaginary code): $ cp [ os.path.join('dist', os.path.basename(file)) for file in FILES ] 'dist' Can you see the difference ? THAT is what i'm talking about. How can not exits a shell with these kind of stuff build-in yet? It's a real pain to handle lists in shell, even its being a so common task: list of files, list of PIDs, list of everything. And a really, really, important point: using syntax/tools/features everybody already knows: sh and python. IPython seams to be on a good direction, but it's bloated: if var name starts with '$', it does this, if '$$' it does that. It's syntax is not "natural", so many rules and "workarounds" ([ ln.upper() for ln in !ls ] -- syntax error)

    I want to run a shell script over the weekend, but I wanna make sure if the terminal loses the connection, my script won't be terminated. I use nohup for the whole script invokation, but I also want to execute some portion of my shell script in a way that if someone closes my terminal, my script runs on the background still.     Hello, how can I change a default working directory/drive for shell in Emacs (on Windows)? Normally, shell starts in the same directory as the file in current buffer. However, when my current file is on D: drive, it starts in c:. Manually changing drive to D: in shell brings me to my directory of course, but I want to avoid this extra step. Is it possible?

    I know there is something different about the environment of the Terminal command-line and the environment in a bash script, but I don't know what that difference is... Here is the example which finally led me to ask this quesiton; it may flush out some of the differences. I am trying to strip leading '0's from a number, with this command. var="000123"; var="${var##+(0)}" ; echo $var When I run this command from the Terminal's command-line, I get: 123 However, when I run it from within a script, it doesn't work; I get: 000123 I'm using Ubuntu 10.04, and tried all the following with the sam results: GNOME Terminal 2.30.2 Konsole 2.4.5 #!/bin/bash #!/bin/sh What is causing this difference? Even if some upgrade will make it work in scripts... I am trying to find out the what and why, so in future, I'll know what to look out for .

  • md5deep error with after compression and extraction

    I am using md5deep to generate the checksum for the contents of an entire directory. After generation, if I use the checksum file and run a check, there are no errors. However, if I compress the file and extract it, it seems to generate an error about a missing file. The file is just called .md5. There is no file called .md5 inside the directory. It seems to create a file that is not existent. This problem exists when I use md5sum or md5deep. Any thoughts on why this is happening?

  • Developing for 2005 using VS2008!

    I joined a fairly large project recently and it has a particularity… Once finished, everything has to be sent to the client under VS2005 using VB.Net and can target either framework 2.0 or 3.0… A long time ago, the decision to use VS2008 and to target framework 3.0 was taken but people knew they would need to establish a few rules to ensure that each dev would use VS2008 as if it was VS2005… Why is that so? Well simply because the compiler in VS2005 is different from the compiler inside VS2008…  I thought it might be a good idea to note the things that you cannot use in VS2008 if you plan on going back to VS2005. Who knows, this might save someone the headache of going over all their code to fix errors… -        Do not use LinQ keywords (from, in, select, orderby…).   -        Do not use LinQ standard operators under the form of extension methods.   -        Do not use type inference (in VB.Net you can switch it OFF in each project properties). o   This means you cannot use XML Literals.   -        Do not use nullable types under the following declarative form:    Dim myInt as Integer? But using:   Dim myInt as Nullable(Of Integer)     is perfectly fine.   -        Do not test nullable types with     Is Nothing    use    myInt.HasValue     instead.   -        Do not use Lambda expressions (there is no Lambda statements in VB9) so you cannot use the keyword “Function”.   -        Pay attention not to use relaxed delegates because this one is easy to miss in VS2008   -        Do not use Object Initializers   -        Do not use the “ternary If operator” … not the IIf method but this one     If(confition, truepart, falsepart).   As a side note, I talked about not using LinQ keyword nor the extension methods but, this doesn’t mean not to use LinQ in this scenario. LinQ is perfectly accessible from inside VS2005. All you need to do is reference System.Core, use namespace System.Linq and use class “Enumerable” as a helper class… This is one of the many classes containing various methods that VS2008 sees as extensions. The trick is you can use them too! Simply remember that the first parameter of the method is the object you want to query on and then pass in the other parameters needed… That’s pretty much all I see but I could have missed a few… If you know other things that are specific to the VS2008 compiler and which do not work under VS2005, feel free to leave a comment and I’ll modify my list accordingly (and notify our team here…) ! Is setenv the same as a regular set MYSQL=${MYSQL_HOME}/bin/sqlplus? set MYSQL_HOME=/opt/mysql/mysql/bin or should i just set the MYSQL_HOME to where the mysql executable is ?

  • VS2008 C++ MFC Access Violation ONLY when stepping through debug mode

    Hi. This is crazy. It started happening in my main project, so I created a tiny sample brand-new project to reproduce it in and sure enough.. It does NOT happen in a sample project I created that is only a Win32 console app. I'm running this on Win7x64, if that matters. VS2008 SP1. Here goes. I create a small dialog app with a button. Put a breakpoint in the handler function for that button. The button handler function looks like this: void CTestProjectDlg::OnBnClickedButton1() { int i=2; m_csHello.Format(_T("Hello World!")); << breakpoint here UpdateData(FALSE); } Click the button, hit the breakpoint. F10 to step, and boom: "First-chance exception at 0x0398f77b in TestProject.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation." It gives me the option to Break or Continue. If I Continue, it just hits it again, only not "First Chance". Yes I have that exception checked in the Debug-Exceptions dlg. If I Break, the call stack just shows me the line where the breakpoint is. If I F10 again.. I get the exception again, only now the callstack shows me in the _AfxDispatchCmdMsg() function, and my original OnBnClickedButton1() is not in the callstack anymore. It doesn't matter where I put the breakpoint. If, instead of F10, I just continue with F5, it works normally. Now.. if I build a Release version and run in debugging mode: I hit the breakpoint, and all the pointers, variable values look normal. F10, and these turn to garbage. The this pointer is now zero. The m_csHello is now However, in Release mode, an exception is not caught, and it all runs fine. The "hello World string gets displayed in the dialog box as it should. I have put in an inquiry to see if some patch was installed on my box by the IT dept in the last day or two. This wasn't happening 2 days ago. What do you think? Is VS2008 corrupted? Thanks.
