• Display Resolution Getting Changed Automatically (sometimes) - Win7x64 - Asus M3A78-EM

  AMD PC Motherboard - Asus M3A78-EM (installed VGA drivers from Asus website - AMD_VGA_V863200_XPVistaWin7.zip) It has VGA and HDMI inbuilt ports (ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics 256MB) VGA is connected to my ViewSonic Monitor. HDMI is connected to LG LCD TV OS - Windows 7 x64 Ultimate Sometimes, when I reboot/start my PC, my ViewSonic display resolution changes and does not show the recommended value(1440x900) in Resolution Settings. The HDMI display works well always. But after multiple reboots/starts, the problem gets fixed automatically and I get back my recommended resolution on ViewSonic display. I am not making any changes to the existing drivers. It sometimes work well, and sometimes doesn't work. Can someone assist me resolving this permanently.

• Dark Windows 7 Screen

  My Gateway laptop -Windows 7- screen became too dark a few days ago after I finished installing Windows automatic update. I can see nothing unless I use a flashlight. Windows login screen is the only bright screen for few seconds. What should I do to resolve this issue? I checked power-saving/ Power Options settings and rebooting in Safe Mode. I tried to lower the refresh rate but it did not allow me. The laptop adapter type is ATI Radeon Xpress series. I uninstalled and reinstalled the driver. And the driver is up to-date. Any help would be appreciated.

• Problem with fitting graphics card

  I have recently purchased a new radeon hd5670 graphics card. The problem I have is that it is what I might call a double height card. So the end where you fix the card to the case is twice the size of the card it is replacing. But this means that it is blocked by the rear of the network card. The only way I can see it to cut that part of the fixture part out then I won't have a problem. But has anyone any suggestions what I could use? To be clear it is not the actual card it is the fixture part which is 90 degress to the card that is causing the problem. Unless someone knows of another solution - some kind of pci-e extender that I could use as I could easily

• BSOD after PC has been running for a while

  I'm having a problem where my computer is getting a blue screen. I have noticed that the BSOD happens after the PC has been running for about 2 days. The BSOD's seem to be an error with atikmpag.sys with an error code of 0x00000116. The problem started about a month ago.It has happened all five times that I left my computer on that long in the past month. Because my computer is a pre-built one from Dell, and I had upgraded the graphics card (at least a year ago) to a more demanding one, I replaced the stock 360W power supply that came with it. I replaced it with a more powerful, 680W one, because it seemed like the problem could be related to a lack of power supply wattage, but it didn't affect the problem at all.   hi i've had a problem for the last couple of days where the resolution on my laptop changes when i close the lid i'm running windows xp professional sp2 on a dell inspiron 1501 the video chip is an ati radeon xpress 1150 according to the catalyst control center software i've got installed which i think came with the drivers or something i've seen this happen before but i installed an old game called road rash a couple days ago after seeing it mentioned on reddit and i'm wondering if it might be related anyone know how i can stop this from happening? i have a workaround where i can manually change the resolution to something else and then change it back but that's a lot of work to do every time i close the laptop which is a lot thanks!

  I've got a GeForce 8800 that I've quite happy with. It drives my two 23" widescreen displays well. Now I've got a 19" standard display that I want to stick between the two widescreens. My second PCIe 16x slot is unused (as is the PCI slot below that), and I want to add a card to my Win7 x64 system. This 19" display won't be used for gaming, so I don't need anything fancy. Here are two cards I was considering, but I'm wondering if they're bad choices for some reason? If they're both fine choices, which is better and why? Again, I'm needing to power only the 19" standard display with this card, and it won't play games. I just need 1280x1024 in Win7 x64. • Image doesn't fill monitor when connected via HDMI

  Connecting a Dell Studio Slim to a Dell ST2210 21.5" monitor. The PC has a ATI Radeon HD 4350 video card. The video card has DVI and HDMI connections. When I connect with the DVI everything works fine. When I connect with the HMDI the image doesn't fill the screen, i.e. there's a approx 1 inch black border around the image. Win7 tells me the res is 1920x1080 (the native res of the monitor). Tried rebooting, no luck.

• System Lags/Freezes when under high usgage

  I am not sure if its my GPU / Memory or Hard drive thats failing. For example if I'm runnning more than one instance of chrome and running an application that takes up a lot of resources, my system will start to lag and freeze. When I launch Photoshop the GPU feature disables automatically, this also lags when I click on menus and when working on documents in Photoshop. I really dont know where to start, if i should buy a new graphics card or test the memory or could it be my OS drive? • Explorer.exe - No such interface supported and other issues

  The problem started when I uninstalled my ATI graphics driver and i used a driver cleaner. After i restarted win7 and it got to POST the screen just went completely blank. So i Used system restore from the repair menu to get back on. I found out that if I ran chkdsk the display just goes black after restart on startup and i have to use system restore to get back on windows7 not sure why this is. When i right click desktop and choose 'Screen Resolution' it says No such interface supported. Also when I click items such as device manager in the windows explorer it does not do anything. I have tried re-registering the DLLS but that did not do anything.

  I run Windows 7 64bit with dual monitors at work. If i connect from home using remote desktop, the next morning i cannot wake up the monitors. The computer seems to be fine (i can connect again from another pc using remote desktop) but monitor will stay blank. I've tried unplugging the monitors and reconnecting them but still frustrating. • Why does Windows 7 x64 work faster than an x86 edition on my PC?

  Why does Windows 7 x64 work faster than an x86 edition on my PC even though I mostly use x86 things in it? What's wrong with me, and what am I missing? Majority of the things I use is x86 (e.g. DAWs, games, media players). A considerable amount of them, however, are x64 (although their x86 counterparts work just fine). I've tried using the same things on the same system but always ended up finding Windows 7 x64 working slightly faster than x86. I'm very observant. I even notice the tiniest window animations. System: Windows 7 Ultimate x64 CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E7500 @ 2.93 GHz RAM: 2 GB x 2 = 4 GB DDR2 @ 332 MHz Motherboard: Intel D945GCNL Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 4350 @ 1 GB Dedicated Audio: M-Audio FastTrack Pro HDD: Samsung HD753LJ 733 GB & Samsung HD160JJ 156 GB As you can see, my system is old.

• Second Monitor "Input Not Supported"

  I have two identical monitors (new Acer s211hl) with a native resolution of 1920x1080. When enabling dual monitor support in Windows 7, the primary monitor works as expected, but the second monitor says, "Input not Supported" and fails to display anything. If I change the resolution of the second monitor to 1440x900, it works as expected. Likewise, if I set it to 1920x1080 with a refresh rate of 30hz, the monitor displays video. However, neither of these are solutions, because the output looks very blurry, and the content is stretched. I am using the following hardware: Monitors: Acer s211hl Motherboard: Asus F1A75M-Pro CPU/GPU: AMD A8-3850 with integrated Radeon HD 6550D graphics I suspect that there is probably an issue with the integrated graphics or motherboard not being able to output to two 1920x1080 monitors, but I am hoping for official confirmation.

  I have a 5-year old hard drive (bought new at the time), but it was sitting in my closet for 5 years, unused. I have just started using it, and seems to be getting a whirring sound (rather distinct from the other noises like fans etc.). I ran a few diagnostics tests, like Seagate's SeaTools, and the SMART test, and a few generic tests and all passed. Should I be concerned? Is there any other test that I should run? It's an internal IDE WD 5400RPM drive. Being used for a desktop, which is itself pretty high-end (AMD Phenom II X6 1100T, AMD Radeon GPU etc.), but would be used rather occasionally to begin with (avg. 1-2 hrs. per day). Thanks for any pointers.

• How to uninstall AMD Display Driver from other install of Windows

  So my Windows 7 had a BSOD from an Ati driver file then restarting only gives me some wierd coloured lines at the top of the screen. Starting in safe mode causes the boot up to freeze at AtiPcie.sys and overlays the same coloured lines on the safe mode start up display. It seems to be a problem with the display driver but I can't get into the OS at all to uninstall it. Luckily I have an old install of Windows 7 from when I moved to a SSD still on my HDD and that runs just fine so I'm pretty sure its a software problem (Maybe the SSD corrupted a driver file or something). So does anyone know how I can uninstall the driver files from another Windows 7 install on the same PC? EDIT: What I mean is, I'm running on the broken PC right now but using a different HDD's windows install. I have full access to the not booting up OS drive with the Windows so I can delete any files/load the registry etc...

  I get a black screen on Windows 7 right after opening Google Sketchup or Minecraft. I presume there are other applications that cause this too - but I have not tried to open them. The window initially stops responding for a few seconds, before I get a black screen and my Skype call ends abruptly. I have tried waiting for a few minutes but nothing happens. I have to power down my computer and then boot it up again. This is becoming an annoyance, and I don't know what's causing it.   I have tried a few things like disabling the Intel smart response, choosing AHCI in BIOS. But there are certain problems I am still facing. I can't see my SSD during the installation of ubuntu (I am planning to install Ubuntu on my SSD and other files on HDD). When I run Ubuntu my laptop gets overheated and battery backup reduces to 90 minutes. (I guess it's related to my graphic driver ATI Raedon HD 7570). Cooling fan seems to run at its fullest, it was working much better in windows. So, overall I wanted to know what are the exact steps I need to follow to install Ubuntu on my SSD and then use my HDD to keep other files, How can I get rid of overheating and battery backup problem?

• Deactivate GPU and use IGP

  I am having some trouble with my Sony Vaio SVE1511W1e laptop. It has an ATI Radeon and the i5 has an IGP (i5 2450m). I don't often use my GPU, and the IGP would be just enough for most usage I do. Therefore, in order to improve the battery life, I wish to deactivate the GPU and use only the IGP. The problem is that my BIOS doesnt allow me to do so. But I believe it is possible to deactivate the GPU 'programatically'. I'm running Debian Wheezy on the 3.2.0.4 AMD64 kernel. The first problem I'm running into is that when I run lspci, my IGP doesnt show up. Could this be because im lacking a kernel module? (I chose a targeted installation). What are the solutions to deactivating a GPU and using an IGP on a Linux System such as debian?

  I just purchased and installed an XFX ATI Radeon HD 4650 video card. The installation instructions said to remove the old video card drivers before installing the new driver. I did both things, but now every time I start my computer, the Found New Hardware wizard pops up for the following three devices: PCI Device SM Bus Controller Other PCI Bridge Device Furthermore, my LAN port no longer functions. The cable's connected, and the light on the port comes on, but the computer can't find any servers when I attempt to connect with it. The modem and router are working, and obviously I'm able to use the other computer here to post this. What do I do to fix this?

  My computer is running an AMD Phenom II quad core CPU but it didn't come with the piece of software that I see people have in a lot of youtube videos. The software is kind of like the ATI catalyst control center but for the AMD processor instead. It shows things like current core temperature, clock speed, etc and I am not sure but maybe it also allows the user to make changes to those things from the control center as well. I am having a hard time finding the download for this online, especially since I don't even have the name for it.

• Can't set correct desktop resolution on Windows 7 after playing Mirror's Edge

  Ever since I launched Mirror's Edge, my entire system seems to think that my monitor is 1600x1200, when actually it's 1920x1080. The game would only go up to 1600x1200, Windows will only go up to 1600x1200, and even my video drivers will only go up that high. The monitor isn't even that aspect ratio. I've rebooted the system to no effect, and installed the latest graphics drivers for my Radeon 5770, unplugged it and re-plugged it, etc. My secondary screen is still working perfectly correctly. Any suggestions?

  hi all my problem is this: i have one video card (radeon hd 4350) and 2 monitors (dell). the first monitor works using dvi-to-dvi. the second does not, using hdmi-to-dvi. the monitor does not register any input. however when i use vga-to-vga, the second monitor does work, with a typically low vga resolution. we have tested the hdmi-to-dvi cable, so why does the monitor not register any input? using windows vista. i have installed all the lastest drivers, done all the basic stuff etc. any help at all would be appreciated. thanks

  I have an ASUS N53S that I mainly bought for its RAM capacity. (I run a lot of VMs.) But as a bonus, it came with a fancy ATI video card. So I decided to install GTA 4 and plug it into a big monitor and settle down for some casual mayhem. But after about 5 minutes, it goes into hibernation! What gives? Since I was using an external monitor and didn't need the keyboard (using an XBox controller) I closed the lid on the laptop. Gaming is compute-intensive, so my GPU and CPU were both working hard and generating heat. Closing the lid interfered with cooling. Since I have the laptop configured to hibernate when I press the power button, the heat-triggered shutdown caused hibernation.

• Can a processor upgrade cause BSOD?

  I Had the following hardware setup: Phenom II X4 945 Asus M4A97 4GB DDR2 OCZ Radeon HD5850 OCZ Agility 2 120 GB Windows 7 x64 Pro Fully updated (latest drivers and windows update patches) Then I bought an used Phenom II X6 1090T and installed it without formatting. Since that my computer started BSODing almost every time I'm playing any game and with different error messages, like: page fault in non-paged area bad pool header the video memory manager found a problem error in dxgmm1.sys(or something like that) And when it doesn't BSOD the game simply crashes. I have tried: Updating BIOS Reseting BIOS to defaults Reinstalling Video Drivers Installing the latest DirectX All that's left is to do a full format and I don't want to do that since it's going to be a lot of work to fine tune windows to my preferences again. So is my "new" processor defective or do I really need to format the computer? Update: I use a (properly installed) custom cooler from Coolermaster and both the BIOS and the Open Hardware Monitor(Application) attest the CPU is not overheating, so I guess the CPU its defective and since I bought it from a guy over the Internet I'm probably screwed
