• Word-wrap grid cells in Ext JS

    - by richardtallent
    (This is not a question per se, I'm documenting a solution I found using Ext JS 3.1.0. But, feel free to answer if you know of a better solution!) The Column config for an Ext JS Grid object does not have a native way to allow word-wrapped text, but there is a css property to override the inline CSS of the TD elements created by the grid. Unfortunately, the TD elements contain a DIV element wrapping the content, and that DIV is set to white-space:nowrap by Ext JS's stylesheet, so overriding the TD CSS does no good. I added the following to my main CSS file, a simple fix that appears to not break any grid functionality, but allows any white-space setting I apply to the TD to pass through to the DIV. .x-grid3-cell { /* TD is defaulted to word-wrap. Turn it off so it can be turned on for specific columns. */ white-space:nowrap; } .x-grid3-cell-inner { /* Inherit DIV's white-space from TD parent, since DIV's inline style is not accessible in the column definition. */ white-space:inherit; } YMMV, but it works for me, wanted to get it out there as a solution since I couldn't find a working solution by searching the Interwebs.

  • Passing NSArray Pointer Rather Than A Pointer To a Specific Type

    - by mattmccomb
    I've just written a piece of code to display a UIActionSheet within my app. Whilst looking at the code to initialise my UIActionSheet something struck me as a little strange. The initialisation function has the following signature... initWithTitle:(NSString *)title delegate:(id UIActionSheetDelegate)delegate cancelButtonTitle:(NSString *)cancelButtonTitle destructiveButtonTitle:(NSString *)destructiveButtonTitle otherButtonTitles:(NSString *)otherButtonTitles As you can see the otherButtonTitles parameter is a pointer to a String. In my code I set it as follows... otherButtonTitles: @"Title", @"Date", nil Although this compiles fine I don't really understand how it works. My reading of the statement is that I have created an inline array containing two elements (Title and Date). How come this then compiles? I'm passing a NSArray* in place of a NSString*. I know from a little of understanding of C++ that an array is really a pointer to the first element. So is this inline array that I'm creating a C array as opposed to a NSArray? What I'm hoping to achieve is to be able to pass a static NSArray* used elsewhere in my class to the otherButtonTitles parameter. But passing the NSArray* object directly doesn't work.

  • Problem accessing variable in a nested form partial

    - by brad
    I have a nested form in a rails view that is called like this <% f.fields_for :invoice_item_numbers do |item_no_form| %> <%= render 'invoice_item_number', :f => item_no_form %> <% end %> and the partial (_invoice_item_number.html.erb) looks like this
<% if f.object.new_record? %>
<%= f.label :item_number %><%= f.text_field :item_number %> <%= link_to_function "remove", "$(this).parent().remove()", :class => 'remove_link' %>
<% else %>
<%= f.label :item_number %><%= f.text_field :item_number %>

<%= f.label :description %><%= invoice_item_number.description %>

<%= f.label :amount %><%= f.text_field :amount %> <%= f.check_box '_destroy', :class => 'remove_checkbox' %> <%= f.label '_destroy', 'remove', :class => 'remove_label' %>
<% end %>
This fails with the error message undefined method `description' for nil:NilClass Why does invoice_item_number return a nil object in this partial? It is obviously being defined somehow because if I change it to something else (e.g. item_number.description then the error message becomes undefined local variable or methoditem_number' for #instead. The invoice_item_number object that is being displayed by this partial is being used perfectly well by the form helpers as<%= f.text_field :item_number %and<% f.text_field :amount %both work perfectly well. I have tried a number of solutions such as using@invoice_item_number` and explicitly defining an object in the render method but these have not worked. Presumably there is a very simple answer to this.

  • Project management: Implementing custom errors in VS compilation process

    - by David Lively
    Like many architects, I've developed coding standards through years of experience to which I expect my developers to adhere. This is especially a problem with the crowd that believes that three or four years of experience makes you a senior-level developer.Approaching this as a training and code review issue has generated limited success. So, I was thinking that it would be great to be able to add custom compile-time errors to the build process to more strictly enforce this and other guidelines. For instance, we use stored procedures for ALL database access, which provides procedure-level security, db encapsulation (table structure is hidden from the app), and other benefits. (Note: I am not interested in starting a debate about this.) Some developers prefer inline SQL or parametrized queries, and that's fine - on their own time and own projects. I'd like a way to add a compilation check that finds, say, anything that looks like string sql = "insert into some_table (col1,col2) values (@col1, @col2);" and generates an error or, in certain circumstances, a warning, with a message like Inline SQL and parametrized queries are not permitted. Or, if they use the var keyword var x = new MyClass(); Variable definitions must be explicitly typed. Do Visual Studio and MSBuild provide a way to add this functionality? I'm thinking that I could use a regular expression to find unacceptable code and generate the correct error, but I'm not sure what, from a performance standpoint, is the best way to to integrate this into the build process. We could add a pre- or post-build step to run a custom EXE, but how can I return line- and file-specifc errors? Also, I'd like this to run after compilation of each file, rather than post-link. Is a regex the best way to perform this type of pattern matching, or should I go crazy and run the code through a C# parser, which would allow node-level validation via the parse tree? I'd appreciate suggestions and tales of prior experience.

  • HTML/CSS: Creating a centered div with a min-width

    - by Alessandro Vernet
    I'd like to have on my page a div which is centered and has a certain width, but which extends beyond that width if required by the content. I am doing this with the following:

a

This works great on Firefox/Safari, but not on IE6, which doesn't understand the display: inline-block. Any advice on how to make this work on IE6 as well?

  • Action Mailer: How do I render dynamic data in an email body that is stored in the database?

    - by Brandon Toone
    I have Action Mailer setup to render an email using the body attribute of my Email model (in the database). I want to be able to use erb in the body but I can't figure out how to get it to render in the sent email message. I'm able to get the body as a string with this code # models/user_mailer.rb def custom_email(user, email_id) email = Email.find(email_id) recipients user.email from "Mail It Example <[email protected]>" subject "Hello From Mail It" sent_on Time.now # pulls the email body and passes a string to the template views/user_mailer/customer_email.text.html.erb body :msg => email.body end I came across this article http://rails-nutshell.labs.oreilly.com/ch05.html which says I can use render but I'm only able to get render :text to work and not render :inline # models/user_mailer.rb def custom_email(user, email_id) email = Email.find(email_id) recipients user.email from "Mail It Example <[email protected]>" subject "Hello From Mail It" sent_on Time.now # body :msg => email.body body :msg => (render :text => "Thanks for your order") # renders text and passes as a variable to the template # body :msg => (render :inline => "We shipped <%= Time.now %>") # throws a NoMethodError end

  • Changing the type in IE with JavaScript

    - by MrEnder
    The line works in all web browsers except IE... How can I fix it for IE? Ok made some changes to still have an error I want it to work like this like here if I dont enter anything it will put the value back So I tried this

  as you can see the blur does not work =[ ok finally got it thanks to the help needed to remove passwordElement1.focus();

  • Stack usage with MMX intrinsics and Microsoft C++

    - by arik-funke
    I have an inline assembler loop that cumulatively adds elements from an int32 data array with MMX instructions. In particular, it uses the fact that the MMX registers can accommodate 16 int32s to calculate 16 different cumulative sums in parallel. I would now like to convert this piece of code to MMX intrinsics but I am afraid that I will suffer a performance penalty because one cannot explicitly intruct the compiler to use the 8 MMX registers to accomulate 16 independent sums. Can anybody comment on this and maybe propose a solution on how to convert the piece of code below to use intrinsics? == inline assembler (only part within the loop) == paddd mm0, [esi+edx+8*0] ; add first & second pair of int32 elements paddd mm1, [esi+edx+8*1] ; add third & fourth pair of int32 elements ... paddd mm2, [esi+edx+8*2] paddd mm3, [esi+edx+8*3] paddd mm4, [esi+edx+8*4] paddd mm5, [esi+edx+8*5] paddd mm6, [esi+edx+8*6] paddd mm7, [esi+edx+8*7] ; add 15th & 16th pair of int32 elements esi points to the beginning of the data array edx provides the offset in the data array for the current loop iteration the data array is arranged such that the elements for the 16 independent sums are interleaved.

  • Is there any reason to use C instead of C++ for embedded development?

    - by Piotr Czapla
    Question I have two compilers on my hardware C++ and C89 I'm thinking about using C++ with classes but without polymorphism (to avoid vtables). The main reasons I’d like to use C++ are: I prefer to use “inline” functions instead of macro definitions. I’d like to use namespaces as I prefixes clutter the code. I see C++ a bit type safer mainly because of templates, and verbose casting. I really like overloaded functions and constructors (used for automatic casting). Do you see any reason to stick with C89 when developing for very limited hardware (4kb of RAM)? Conclusion Thank you for your answers, they were really helpful! I though the subject through and I will stick with C mainly because: It is easier to predict actual code in C and this is really important if you have only 4kb of ram. My team consists of C developers mainly so advance features of C++ won't be frequently used. I've found a way to inline functions in my C compiler (C89). It is hard to accept one answer as you provided so many good answers. Unfortunately I can't create a wiki and accept it so I will choose one answer that made me think most.

  • Page content layout issues

    - by Prupel
    I'm designing a theme for a blog and I'm having some trouble trying to get a layout working. Here's an image of what I want. This diagram represents the individual posts and not the website itself, so it will be contained in a box of it's own, lets call it .container. Also the purple and green are in another box, let's call it .content. The other elements will be called by their color for now. so here's more or less what the CSS looks like: .container { display:block; margin:0 25px; } .gray, .blue, .content { display:block; width:100%; } .purple { display:inline-block; width:125px; height:100%; text-align:center; } .green { display:inline-block; } That's all there is at the moment. I tried float but that made no effect. What's happening is something like this. Here's a few more things you should know: .container's width is NOT set it is auto .purple and .green don't necessarily need to be the same size as long as .green doesn't go to that side. .purple CAN have a set height .green is where the meat is, that's where the actual post goes, keep that in mind. I don't think tables will help, the problem is inside .content.

  • jQuery Accordion + Anchor Tag 'stuck as block' bug?

    - by DA
    Sample page: http://jsbin.com/ohuze/2 This is a simple jQuery UI Accordion. Each accordion panel has an UL (an OL works the same) with this markup:

Lorep ipsum dolor lorem ipsum dolor lorem ipsum dolor?

Lorep ipsum dolor lorem ipsum dolor lorem ipsum dolor?

In IE6, you'll see that the tag appears to be getting rendered as a block element, so the question mark ends up being pushed outside and not at the end of the line of text. In addition, the bullet and/or list item number is now bottom-aligned with the text rather than top-aligned. I've narrowed it down to the javascript that executes to make the accordion. It's not an issue with jQuery's CSS as disabling that, alone, doesn't resolve the issue. Anyone know what might be going on in IE6 to cause this rendering issue? UPDATE: Apparently, this is also an IE7 issue. UPDATE 2: After some more playing, I've narrowed things down a bit more: the bug has nothing to do with lists. The issue is any anchor tag within a jQuery Accordion will appear as display: block (even though it appears that the CSS still indicates display: inline) the bug has nothing to do with the actual CSS that jQuery UI uses to create the accordion. I created a test page that uses the fully rendered jQuery Accordion post-processed source code and the accompanying CSS. In that situation, the anchor tags remain inline. In conclusion: It appears that the process of rendering the accordion via javascript is messing up the display of the anchor tags. It may be a show/hide issue?

  • Scope of "library" methods

    - by JS
    Hello, I'm apparently laboring under a poor understanding of Python scoping. Perhaps you can help. Background: I'm using the 'if name in "main"' construct to perform "self-tests" in my module(s). Each self test makes calls to the various public methods and prints their results for visual checking as I develop the modules. To keep things "purdy" and manageable, I've created a small method to simplify the testing of method calls: def pprint_vars(var_in): print("%s = '%s'" % (var_in, eval(var_in))) Calling pprint_vars with: pprint_vars('some_variable_name') prints: some_variable_name = 'foo' All fine and good. Problem statement: Not happy to just KISS, I had the brain-drizzle to move my handy-dandy 'pprint_vars' method into a separate file named 'debug_tools.py' and simply import 'debug_tools' whenever I wanted access to 'pprint_vars'. Here's where things fall apart. I would expect import debug_tools foo = bar debug_tools.pprint_vars('foo') to continue working its magic and print: foo = 'bar' Instead, it greets me with: NameError: name 'some_var' is not defined Irrational belief: I believed (apparently mistakenly) that import puts imported methods (more or less) "inline" with the code, and thus the variable scoping rules would remain similar to if the method were defined inline. Plea for help: Can someone please correct my (mis)understanding of scoping regards imports? Thanks, JS

  • Vertically Aligning Elements

    - by Naz
    I'm trying to understand how to center elements within a div. I have this basic code I am working with and am trying to get the 'This is a button' element to be in the center

Vivamus vel sapien. All help/advice is appreciated.

  • Trying to make a plugin system in C++/Qt

    - by Pirate for Profit
    I'm making a task-based program that needs to have plugins. Tasks need to have properties which can be easily edited, I think this can be done with Qt's Meta-Object Compiler reflection capabilities (I could be wrong, but I should be able to stick this in a QtPropertyBrowser?) So here's the base: class Task : public QObject { Q_OBJECT public: explicit Task(QObject *parent = 0) : QObject(parent){} virtual void run() = 0; signals: void taskFinished(bool success = true); } Then a plugin might have this task: class PrinterTask : public Task { Q_OBJECT public: explicit PrinterTask(QObject *parent = 0) : Task(parent) {} void run() { Printer::getInstance()->Print(this->getData()); // fictional emit taskFinished(true); } inline const QString &getData() const; inline void setData(QString data); Q_PROPERTY(QString data READ getData WRITE setData) // for reflection } In a nutshell, here's what I want to do: // load plugin // find all the Tasks interface implementations in it // have user able to choose a Task and edit its specific Q_PROPERTY's // run the TASK It's important that one .dll has multiple tasks, because I want them to be associated by their module. For instance, "FileTasks.dll" could have tasks for deleting files, making files, etc. The only problem with Qt's plugin setup is I want to store X amount of Tasks in one .dll module. As far as I can tell, you can only load one interface per plugin (I could be wrong?). If so, the only possible way to do accomplish what I want is to create a FactoryInterface with string based keys which return the objects (as in Qt's Plug-And-Paint example), which is a terrible boilerplate that I would like to avoid. Anyone know a cleaner C++ plugin architecture than Qt's to do what I want? Also, am I safely assuming Qt's reflection capabilities will do what I want (i.e. able to edit an unknown dynamically loaded tasks' properties with the QtPropertyBrowser before dispatching)?

  • multiple definition in header file

    - by Jérôme
    Here is a small code-example from which I'd like to ask a question : complex.h : #ifndef COMPLEX_H #define COMPLEX_H #include <iostream> class Complex { public: Complex(float Real, float Imaginary); float real() const { return m_Real; }; private: friend std::ostream& operator<<(std::ostream& o, const Complex& Cplx); float m_Real; float m_Imaginary; }; std::ostream& operator<<(std::ostream& o, const Complex& Cplx) { return o << Cplx.m_Real << " i" << Cplx.m_Imaginary; } #endif // COMPLEX_H complex.cpp : #include "complex.h" Complex::Complex(float Real, float Imaginary) { m_Real = Real; m_Imaginary = Imaginary; } main.cpp : #include "complex.h" #include <iostream> int main() { Complex Foo(3.4, 4.5); std::cout << Foo << "\n"; return 0; } When compiling this code, I get the following error : multiple definition of operator<<(std::ostream&, Complex const&) I've found that making this fonction inline solves the problem, but I don't understand why. Why does the compiler complain about multiple definition ? My header file is guarded (with #define COMPLEX_H). And, if complaining about the operator<< fonction, why not complain about the public real() fonction, which is defined in the header as well ? And is there another solution as using the inline keyword ?

  • how to achieve this single line css format....

    I tried many formats but this is best to find classes and IDs easily without using "Find". but it is good if width of editor is wide. I use this tool to format my css in single line http://www.newmediacampaigns.com/files/posts/css-formatting/clean.php #wrapper {width:800px; margin:0 auto;} #header {height:100px; position:relative;} #feature .post {width:490px; float:left;} #feature .link {width:195px; display:inline; margin:0 10px 0 0;float:right;border-bottom:1px solid red} #footer {clear:both; font-size:93%; float:none;} I need like this. see selector #feature .link i need if any selector has more than 3 properties then it should go at next line like in this example.because i work in cms where width of textbox where i write cssis not much wide. Is there any tool/software can format CSS like this. or after getting single line format can we this formatting for big lines. in automated way #wrapper {width:800px; margin:0 auto;} #header {height:100px; position:relative;} #feature .post {width:490px; float:left;} #feature .link {width:195px; display:inline; margin:0 10px 0 0; float:right;bottom:1px solid red} #footer {clear:both; font-size:93%; float:none;}

  • Clarification of atomic memory access for different OSs

    - by murrekatt
    I'm currently porting a Windows C++ library to MacOS as a hobby project as a learning experience. I stumbled across some code using the Win Interlocked* functions and thus I've been trying to read up on the subject in general. Reading related questions here in SO, I understand there are different ways to do these operations depending on the OS. Interlocked* in Windows, OSAtomic* in MacOS and I also found that compilers have builtin (intrinsic) operations for this. After reading gcc builtin atomic memory access, I'm left wondering what is the difference between intrinsic and the OSAtomic* or Interlocked* ones? I mean, can I not choose between OSAtomic* or gcc builtin if I'm on MacOS when I use gcc? The same if I'd be on Windows using gcc. I also read that on Windows Interlocked* come as both inline and intrinsic versions. What to consider when choosing between intrinsic or inline? In general, are there multiple options on OSs what to use? Or is this again "it depends"? If so, what does it depend on? Thanks!

  • JavaScript - Efficiently find all elements containing one of a large set of strings

    - by noah
    I have a set of strings and I need to find all all of the occurrences in an HTML document. Where the string occurs is important because I need to handle each case differently: String is all or part of an attribute. e.g., the string is foo: - Add class ATTR to the element. String is the full text of an element. e.g., foo - Add class TEXT to the element. String is inline in the text of an element. e.g.,
I love foo
- Wrap the text in a span tag with class TEXT. Also, I need to match the longest string first. e.g., if I have foo and foobar, then
I love foobar
should become
I love foobar
, not
I love foobar
. The inline text is easy enough: Sort the strings descending by length and find and replace each in document.body.innerHTML with $1, although I'm not sure if that is the most efficient way to go. For the attributes, I can do something like this: sortedStrings.each(function(it) { document.body.innerHTML.replace(new RegExp('(\S+?)="[^"]*'+escapeRegExChars(it)+'[^"]*"','g'),function(s,attr) { $('[+attr+'*='+it+']').addClass('ATTR'); }); }); Again, that seems inefficient. Lastly, for the full text elements, a depth first search of the document that compares the innerHTML to each string will work, but for a large number of strings, it seems very inefficient. Any answer that offers performance improvements gets an upvote :)

  • CSS3PIE issues in IE6 and 8

    - by Gordon
    I'm using CSS3PIE to apply some rounded corners to elements in Internet Explorer that will get them by stylesheet in other browsers. I've run into some issues with it though. In IE8, I discovered that any element that had the PIE behaviour would behave strangely. The container would jump a few pixels to the right, but the content would stay in its original position, giving the appearance that the content had all shifted left relative to its container. This would be especially problematic on elements with no or small amounts of padding. I was able to hack my way around the problem in IE8 by using X-UA-Compatible, but I'd rather avoid this solution if at all possible. I don't have access to IE9 for testing but my understanding hacks like PIE aren't necessary and it would be wasteful to force a compatibility mode in a browser that doesn't need it. I have worse issues in IE6, with the PIE layout breaking down completely on a list that is set up to use display:inline; zoom:1; list items (to simulate inline-block, which works in IE8 and the other browsers). Here the borders of the list items get rendered in completely the wrong place. So ideally, I'd like to have PIE work properly in IE6, and in IE8 without having to resort to compatibility mode. As far as IE6 goes, a graceful fallback where PIE is just not applied will do. IE7 is the only browser where the page displays as intended. I can't provide an example page just at the moment unfortunately, I can add one later though. Follow up: Here are some screen grabs made with IE Tester. I'm hoping they will make things a little more clear for everybody. As you can see, IE7 is fine. However, in IE8, the containers are offset to the left relative to their content, and in IE6 the list elements (with the rounded 1 pixel border) are a complete mess! Full size versions for IE8, IE7 and IE6 are also available

  • Trying to make a plugin system in C++

  • Simple matrix example using C++ template class

    - by skyeagle
    I am trying to write a trivial Matrix class, using C++ templates in an attempt to brush up my C++, and also to explain something to a fellow coder. This is what I have som far: template class<T> class Matrix { public: Matrix(const unsigned int rows, const unsigned int cols); Matrix(const Matrix& m); Matrix& operator=(const Matrix& m); ~Matrix(); unsigned int getNumRows() const; unsigned int getNumCols() const; template <class T> T getCellValue(unsigned int row, unsigned col) const; template <class T> void setCellValue(unsigned int row, unsigned col, T value) const; private: // Note: intentionally NOT using smart pointers here ... T * m_values; }; template<class T> inline T Matrix::getCellValue(unsigned int row, unsigned col) const { } template<class T> inline void Matrix::setCellValue(unsigned int row, unsigned col, T value) { } I'm stuck on the ctor, since I need to allocate a new[] T, it seems like it needs to be a template method - however, I'm not sure I have come accross a templated ctor before. How can I implemnt the ctor?

  • C++: Copy contructor: Use Getters or access member vars directly?

    - by cbrulak
    Have a simple container class: public Container { public: Container() {} Container(const Container& cont) //option 1 { SetMyString(cont.GetMyString()); } //OR Container(const Container& cont) //option 2 { m_str1 = cont.m_str1; } public string GetMyString() { return m_str1;} public void SetMyString(string str) { m_str1 = str;} private: string m_str1; } So, would you recommend this method or accessing the member variables directly? In the example, all code is inline, but in our real code there is no inline code. Update (29 Sept 09): Some of these answers are well written however they seem to get missing the point of this question: this is simple contrived example to discuss using getters/setters vs variables initializer lists or private validator functions are not really part of this question. I'm wondering if either design will make the code easier to maintain and expand. Some ppl are focusing on the string in this example however it is just an example, imagine it is a different object instead. I'm not concerned about performance. we're not programming on the PDP-11
