• How to use NSTableView's selectedRowIndexes?

  Hi guys, I'm just learning some basic programming in Objective C and Cocoa. I'm trying to get some data from NSTableView. Based on what I read in one tutorial, I wrote this: NSArray * items = [[itemsTableView selectedRowEnumerator] allObjects]; But then I learned that selectedRowEnumerator was deprecated already in 10.3 Panther and that I should use selectedRowIndexes. The problem is, I didn't find how to actually use the returned NSIndexSet to achieve the same result as with code written above. So, If anyone could give me a tip, I would be very grateful. Thanks.

In my code I'd like to know which class dispatches the event using event.target and I can't if I must use document or some other DOM element. :( I've been working in Actionscript 3 and that's the methodology I learned to work with custom events in classes. • Why use SyncLocks in .NET for simple operations when Interlocked class is available?

  I've been doing simple multi-threading in VB.NET for a while, and have just gotten into my first large multi-threaded project. I've always done everything using the Synclock statement because I didn't think there was a better way. I just learned about the Interlocked Class - it makes it look as though all this: Private SomeInt as Integer Private SomeInt_LockObject as New Object Public Sub IntrementSomeInt Synclock SomeInt_LockObject SomeInt += 1 End Synclock End Sub Can be replaced with a single statement: Interlocked.Increment(SomeInt) This handles all the locking internally and modifies the number. This would be much simpler than writing my own locks for simple operations (longer-running or more complicated operations obviously still need their own locking). Is there a reason why I'd rolling my own locking, using dedicated locking objects, when I can accomplish the same thing using the Interlocked methods?

• Does Android support near real time push notification

  I recently learned about the ability of iPhone apps to receive nearly instantaneous notifications to apps. This is provided in the form of push notifications, a bespoke protocol which keeps an always on data connection to the iPhone and messages binary packets to the app, which pops up alerts incredibly quickly, between 0.5 - 5 seconds from server app send to phone app response time. This is sent as data - rather than SMS - in very very small packets charged as part of the data plan not as incoming messages. I would like to know if using Android there is either a similar facility, or whether it's possible to implement something close to this using Android APIs. To clarify I define similar as: Not an SMS message, but some data driven solution As real time as is possible Is scalable - ie: as the server part of a mobile app, I could notify thousands of app instances in seconds I appreciate the app could be pull based, HTTP request/response style, but ideally I don't want to to be polling that heavily just to check for notification .. besides which it's like drip draining the data plan.

  Hello everyone, In my previous understanding, for a web site, only login user of a web site (no matter what login/authentication approach is used) could have cookie as persistent identifier, so that if the user close the browser, open browser again to go to the same web site, the web site could remember the user. But I learned recently that it seems for non-login user, there could still be a cookie associated with the user (after the user close browser, and then open the browser again to go to the same web site, the web site could remember the user), and it is called browser cookie? Is that true? If it is true, who is responsible to set the browser cookie? i.e. need some coding/config at web server side, client browser configuration (without coding from server side), or both? How could web server access such cookie? Appreciate if any code samples. thanks in advance, George

  I learned an example of usage of sockets. In this example a client sends a request to a server to open a socket and then the server (listening to a specific port) opens a socket and everything is fine, socket is "opened" from both sides (client and server). But it is still not clear to me how flexible is this stuff. For example, is it possible for the client to close an opened (from both ends) socket and to reopen it again (under condition that the server keeps the socket opened). Is it possible for the server to "know" that a socket was closed on the client side? Is it possible for the client to know that a socket was closed on the server side?

  I've recently learned Haskell, and am trying to carry the pure functional style over to my other code when possible. An important aspect of this is treating all variables as immutable, i.e. constants. In order to do so, many computations that would be implemented using loops in an imperative style have to be performed using recursion, which typically incurs a memory penalty due to the allocation a new stack frame for each function call. In the special case of a tail call (where the return value of a called function is immediately returned to the callee's caller), however, this penalty can be bypassed by a process called tail call optimization (in one method, this can be done by essentially replacing a call with a jmp after setting up the stack properly). Does MATLAB perform TCO by default, or is there a way to tell it to?

  Hi, I'm using this Ajax script (http://www.dhtmlgoodies.com/index.html?whichScript=ajax-dynamic-content) to load content from an aspx page on another server than the page calling the content. So far I've learned that this is a no go. The problem seems to be that when using an absolute link to content the script fails as apposed to using a relative link.   Is there a way to learn the username of the user that has a file open? I am developing a program that will be a desktop client for many users. The application will open some files and I'd like to allow many users to open the files at the same time, but only allow the first user to have write privileges. What I want is to be able to tell the other users who has write access to a file. Is that something that can be learned by an application? (I am developing in VS 2008).

• RMI java doesn't create skeleton class

  I wrote a remote service MyremoteImpl.java and used following command after compiled it. rmic MyRemoteImpl I learned that this method suppose to create stub class and a skeleton class but I can only see the stub class, why is that? • Debugging JavaScript in Internet Explorer

  I am working on a relatively complex JavaScript-driven website. It runs great in all browsers except Internet Explorer. I am getting this very curious error: "A Runtime Error has occurred. Do you wish to Debug? Line: 93,865,600. Error: Expected ';'" The issue is, I don't have 93 million lines of code, and clicking "Yes" doesn't attach to Visual Studio like it normally does. I can click on 'No' and the website continues to run fine, but if a user doesn't have JavaScript debugging disabled, I don't want them to see this meaningless error. Suggestions/Tools/Plugins to get to the bottom of this? And yeah, I learned my lesson, switch over and check my project in Internet Explorer more often... Thanks,

  Well here goes a sligtly arwkward question, I have changed job roles from Network Admin to SQL Server DBA thus having to learn SQL server 2005. I am quite self motivated and have learned the basics of Transac and a little about Reporting services. The only thing is I need to set senarios as theres not much coming in at work in the way of SQL tasks. I have always kept my interest in networking by setting little "Hacking tasks", I have has a look at some crackme's but can find nothing to play with. I understand the SQL injection is some sort of SQL hack but found not much on the subject. I know my way of learning might be a bit different from others but it is all White Hat and keeps my interest. Thanks

• How to open different App version for one given file extension

  We have a data files with an extension ".ppx" for our business app here. Users will typically have multiple versions of the application installed (side by side) for example version 1 and version 2. The ppx files are xml files and they contain the version of the app they were created from (v1 or v2). Lets say that we have AFileCreatedWithAppv1.ppx and AFileCreatedWithAppv2.ppx opens with version 1 or version 2 of our app respectivly when they both have the same file extension? It must be doable since that is what Visual Studio does. In fact, they even provide different icons for the same .sln extension to indicate what Visual Studio version it will open with. I learned that Visual Studio is using the Selector or Launcher in between, but then again, how do they change the icons in Windows? cheers :)

  Python When I learned Python I installed it on windows with a nice gui installer and all .py files would automatically run in python, from the command line or explorer. I found this very intuitive and easy, because I could instantly make plain text files and run them. Lisp I'm starting to learn lisp and have decided (from reviews) that SBCL is not a bad lisp implementation. Is there a way to setup SBCL to run .lisp files as easily as with Python? Are there other lisp implementations that have this?

• Django admin output extra HTML in ModelSite

  Ultimately, I want to add an <iframe> to the display of a particular model on Django's admin page. Django is already rendering the form for this model correctly, but I want to add this <iframe> in addition to Django's form. The src attribute needs to involve the primary key for the currently-displayed record. I've learned how to properly override the change_form.html template through Django's documentation, and I can add markup to the right block, but I can't figure out how to access the primary key value. (No amount of determined Googling has helped at all.) Alternatively, is there a direct way to specify that I want to produce extra output in my ModelSite definition?

  Hello, I have followed the basic GWT tutorial for creating a project in Eclipse. Now, I am trying to build off what I learned in the tutorial. I created a static utility class to perform some database connection logic. However, when I try to compile I get: [ERROR] Line 46: No source code is available for type com.sample.server.ConnectionUtil; did you forget to inherit a required module? Where can I put simple classes that I've created on my own? Do they have to be outside the package structure of the basic module, 'com.sample'? Or do I have to specify a whole new module in the gwt.xml file and inherit from that? There has to be something simple I'm missing.

• How can I transition from a front-end career to back-end career?

  Hello, In 2004, I received my B.S. in Computer Science using mostly Java for programming. Since then, I have been hired for purely front-end positions in large companies through recruiters, doing primarily HTML/CSS, Javascript/jQuery, and OOP Actionscript 3. While I definitely have respect for the front-end, and have learned much, I feel very unfulfilled and would love to move into back-end for the more complex programming I was doing in school. My target platform of choice is ASP.Net 3.5 (C#). With a resume that has absolutely no .Net or back-end experience, how can I transition into a junior back-end job? I am currently freelancing a .Net e-commerce site, and plan to build a portfolio showcasing some apps (e-commerce mvc, blog, etc), while learning the technology. Is having a Bachelors in CS enough or should I look into getting .Net certified? Is showing course-work still relevant to an employer even though it was from 6 years ago? Thank you

However some further customization is required, involving more than 1 question per page, and a multi-type answer in this type of format: Question 1: Describe 4 things you did last summer a) [ short answer space - text field ] b) "I wept" c) "My whole family died so I learned self reliance" d) "I got another xbox" Question 2: Describe 2 things you hate about yourself a) "My arms are way shorter than my legs" b) "I was born without human emotion" So I guess in two parts, how to show multiple questions per page, and then how to allow multiple text fields for answers. I have used https://graph.facebook.com/oauth/access_token?client_id=YOUR_APP_ID&client_secret=YOUR_APP_SECRET&grant_type=client_credentials and get the access token which is something like this access_token=454345994651138|bAMGfuW-ueNXGCahley7ga125HN and then https://graph.facebook.com/100005939123542/feed?access_token=454345994651138|bAMGfuW-ueNXGCahley7ga125HN It gives me general information such as user's likes, name, id, current city... but NOT user's wall posts. I've learned that there are three types of access token, which is App Token, User Token, and Page Token. In order to get user/feed by using graphAPI, I need to request to get User Token, but there's NO information in the lousy Facebook Doc! (Which frustrated me the most!) In order to generate the user access token, we need to set some permission, generate the access token, and GET the user's wall feed, which is in JSON format. My question is : How do I get the User Access Token in order to get user wall post in iOS Xcode?

• Retreiving data from MySQL with html/javaScript on one domain and the PHP file on the other

  I need to retrieve data from a MySQL database, and have it work one way for all types of servers. For example it should work on a server that runs no server side language, it should also work on LAMP, and IIS. I was thinking about using ajax and xmlhttprequest, but learned of the cross domain limitation. I also tried to just include the PHP in a tag, but it comes back with a syntax error in the HTML code created by the PHP file, even though it looks correct. Does anyone know how to fix either of these issues, or have a different way to go about it?
