    I use Linux as primary OS. I need some suggestions regarding how should I set up my desktop and development. I do work on mostly .Net and Drupal, but some time on other lamp products and C/C++, Qt. I'm also interested in mobile (android..) and embedded development. Currently I install everything on my main OS, even I use it a little. I use VMs a little. Should I use separate VM for each kind of development (like one for .Net/Mono, another C++, one for mobile and one for db only, one for xyz things etc) Keep primary development environment on main os and moveothers in VM. main os should be messed up keep things easy to organize (must) performance should be optimal

  • Using Python for a Wacom tablet on Mac & Linux

    I am shortly going to buy a Wacom Bamboo Pen&Touch, and I'd like to be able to access it from Python, preferably using PyQt. I've found a Python module for accessing it under windows (cgkit/wintab) and I've seen Python code for accessing it using GTK (GnomeTabletApps). Is there an equivalent for Mac? The Cocoa documentation provided by Wacom is way beyond me.

    I'm trying to install the Python Imaging Library on Mac OS X 10.4, but I get errors. I'm not sure where the error starts, it's just a huge wall of text when executing sudo python setup.py install. But the last few lines are: ... collect2: ld returned 1 exit status lipo: can't open input file: /var/tmp//ccNKvQpP.out (No such file or directory) error: command 'gcc' failed with exit status 1 I've googled, but none of the results are working.

  • Development environment for ASP.NET with EpiServer

    At our company we are going to develop more for the Windows platform than we have done up until now. As this scale of Windows development is new to us it would be nice with some feedback from experienced developers. Requirements we have: 5 developers from the beginning. 15 developers a year from now. All developers should be able to develop at the same time. Be able to develop solution for ASP.NET and EpiServer 5. Our idea: A shared server which developers use for development through Terminal Services. SQL Server Express. Start with some free express edition of Visual Studio, upgrade to a commercial version if we need the additional features. Use IIS and not the web server built into Visual Studio. Questions: Are we on the right track? In terms of license costs the above should be cheapest, right? What do you think about multiple developers doing development using a shared TS-server? Do you know of any company which has a similar development environment? Are we going to miss some features of the full Visual Studio version immediately? Is using Express version a bad choice? Is IIS the best choice? If use IIS the developers may use the same port for deployment. If we use the built in web server each one has to set their own port as we're sharing a machine. Comment answer: We are thinking about a shared server as it will most likely decrease the license costs. So it's purely a cost issue. We are using CVS for version control. Our situation is that we develop on Mac and Linux, that's why buying 1 server license + Visual Studio licenses seems to be a cost effective way of starting this type of development.

    The following Fortran code is giving me a bus error on my Mac but no errors when I run it on my Linux machine: PROGRAM TINY WRITE(UNIT=*, FMT=*) 'Hello, world!' END My understanding is that a bus error occurs when the program attempts to access impossible memory but I do not understand where such an attempt has been made in this program. My MacBook has GCC 4.4.0 and my Linux machine has GCC 4.3.2. Any ideas as to why this error occurs?

    I've been googling around trying to figure out if it's possible to use my mouse wheel to scroll while inside Vim in Mac's Terminal, with no luck. It seems as if only X11 or iTerm support this. Before I give up, I thought I'd try the geniuses here to see if anyone knows a way to do this. So, does anyone know if I can set that up? Or should I seriously consider using a different terminal application?

  • Creating a png with specific rgb values (mac)

    I'm using a Mac. When I try creating a png with specific rgb values (i.e. 128,0,0), this is fine (I've tried using both GIMP and photoshop). Now when I open the png file, the color looks slightly different. And when I use the DigitalColor Meter, the rgb values don't match anymore (the 128,0,0 file became 106,7,0). What's going on? Thanks

    Hi, I had downloaded and installed the 1.6.9 version of SVN from http://subversion.tigris.org/. After the installation I noticed that if I launch the command "svn" from the terminal, my Mac still uses the old version, the 1.4.4. If i want to use the new version, I need to specify its path, like this: - /opt/subversion/bin/svn commit instead of: - svn commit There is a way to solve this problem and use the new version of the command without typing the entire path? Is there an alternative that will do the same job as the MBProgressHUD? I notice that apple has it in their OS as well.     MySQL 5.5.8 uninstall MAC OS 10.6.5,restart computer is message “/Library/StartupItems/MySQLCOM” has not been started because it does not have the proper security settings. i set sudo /Applications/TextEdit.app/Contents/MacOS/TextEdit /usr/local/mysql/support-files/mysql.server Locate the configuration defining the basedir and set the following : basedir=/usr/local/mysql datadir=/usr/local/mysql/data bug i click the mysql preference start mysql server isn't start and i sudo chown -R root:wheel /Library/StartupItems/MySQLCOM and restart again ,not warning message but mysql server not start ,why?

Password (again) with the message: "Authentication realm: http://svn.myserver.com:80 Subversion" I've checked and my credentials are being stored in Keychain and SVN has access to them. Why won't it use them?
