• decoding 802.11 b

  I have a raw grabbed data from spectrometer that was working on wifi (802.11b) channel 6. (two laptops in ad-hoc ping each other). I would like to decode this data in matlab. I see them as complex vector with 4.6 mln of complex samples. I see their spectrum quite nice. I am looking document a bit less complicated as IEEE 802.11 standard (which I have). I can share measurement data to other people.

  My UITable is returning EXEC_BAD_ACCESS, but why! See this code snippet! Loading the UITableView works fine, so allXYZArray != nil and is populated! • Where can I get resources for developing for Mac OS Classic?

  I recently got bored and fired up my old Mac OS Classic emulator, and then got nostalgic for writing old-school applications for the system. So, my question: Where can I get dev tools that can still target Classic? (Ideally free, since this is just for fun, but if grabbing a used version of CodeWarrior on eBay is the best way to go, so be it.) Where can I get at least reference materials so I don't have to guess-and-check my way around Carbon/the System Toolbox? Are there any forums still running that would be open to answering old-school Mac questions for when I get stuck? This is purely for fun, so don't worry about how impractical this is. I know.

• Is it possible to have AVFramework and AudioToolbox framework in one app?

  I'm trying to write develop audio related application. In that, I'm using AudioToolBox framework for recording the sound. And I'm using AVFramework to play soudns. When app is stared, it will play some mp3 file using AVFramework. And also initializes Audiotoolbox. In simulator, I'm able to record and play. But when I'm testing it on iPhone, I'm getting following error for initializing AudioToolBox. 2009-12-11 22:25:51.599 StoryBook[807:207] AudioRecorder init AudioSessionInitialize failed with error: 1768843636 Can some one tell me whether we can use both AV as well as Audio Toolbox frame works in one application? Why I'm getting that error?

• .NET custom form designer: How to implement IMenuCommandService?

  I've got a report form designer written long ago for a database project. It used a lot of winapi magic hence i was forced to rewrite some parts 'in proper way'. Thanks to some articles from MSDN magazine (here and here) and CodeProject i was able to implement designer surface, toolbox and undo/redo engine. Every resource i discovered on the topic so far is a bit outdated. Can you point to fresh/comprehensive article? Code from article mentioned above seems not working. MenuCommandService.ShowContextMenu is called but nothing appears since there aren't any DesignerVerbs in globalVerbs collection. Should i add 'standard' ones, corresponded to designer actions such as cut/paste, manually? If yes, how can i accomplish this?

  how can I do a hierarchical clustering (in this case for gene expression data) in Python in a way that shows the matrix of gene expression values along with the dendrogram? What I mean is like the example here: http://www.mathworks.cn/access/helpdesk/help/toolbox/bioinfo/ug/a1060813239b1.html shown after bullet point 6 (Figure 1), where the dendrogram is plotted to the left of the gene expression matrix, where the rows have been reordered to reflect the clustering. How can I do this in Python using numpy/scipy or other tools? Also, is it computationally practical to do this with a matrix of about 11,000 genes, using euclidean distance as a metric? thanks.

  I am currently started working on a project which will allow users to design reports inside visual studio. Previously, for my similar Winforms App, I had extended the IComponent (Component Class) and wrote our VS Like designer kind of custom control which will allow users to drag drop controls from the visual studio toolbox and then I export it as a VisualStudio C#&VB ItemTemplate. Now I am trying to recreate the same control using WPF considering its power, extensiblity. Could anyone shed some lights on this, on what would be the most preferable way of doing this ?   Can anyone recommend a good matplot tutorial. I am a complete beginner - but have used similar software (matlab, R etc), in my halcyon days at University (i.e. a long time ago). A google search brings up a list of dubious quality, and the 'official' docs are too terse, or provide examples that are more 'edge case' (e.g. drawing dolphins swimming in a bubble), than one is likely to meet in practise. I want a manual that provides the following information in a well structured manner: Introduction to the data types Introduction to 2D plotting with some simple practical examples (simple 2D graphs) Introduction to 3D plotting with some simple practical examples (simple 2D graphs: contour and surface)

  I am about to finish my B.Sc. in Applied Math. I started out in CS a few years back had a bit of a change of heart and decided to go the math route. Now that I am looking for career options finishing up and I'm just wonder how my Applied Math degree will look when applying for programming jobs. I have taken CS courses in C++/Java/C and done 2 semester of Scientific Computing with MATLAB/Mathematica and the like, so I feel like i at least know how to program. • getting window screenshot windows API

  Hi, I am trying to make a program to work on top of an existing GUI to annotate it and provide extra calculations and statistical information. I want to do this using image recognition, as I have learned a fair amount about this in University using Matlab and similar things. I can get a handle to the window I want to perform image recognition on, but I don't know how to turn that handle into an image of that window, and all its visible child windows. I suppose I am looking for something like the screenshot function, but restricted to a single window. How would I go about doing this? I suppose I'd need something like a .bmp to mess about with. Also, it would have to be efficient enough that I could call it several times a second without my PC grinding to a halt. Hopefully this isn't an obvious question, I typed some things into google but didn't get anything related.

  I've got a dockpanel on my ui as follows; <DockPanel> <Border DockPanel.Dock="Top">Header</Border> <Border DockPanel.Dock="Bottom">My footer</Border> <Border DockPanel.Dock="Left">Menu</Border> <Border>Content</Border> </DockPanel> What I want to do is to have a storyboard animation to show / hide the Menu on the left-hand side. I've got my border to increase the width when it has loaded but I want a way to close / reopen it. I need a button somewhere but I want this to trigger the animation in the border control rather than itself. Ideally I was thinking of something like the Toolbox / Server Explorer in visual studio.   Hi, I'm trying to understand the Haar feature method used for the training step in the AdaBoost algorithm. I don't understand the math that well so I'd appreciate more of a conceptual answer (as much as possible, anyway). Basically, what does it do? How do you choose positive and negative sets for what you want to select? Can it be generalized? What I mean by that is, can you choose it to find any kind of feature that you want no matter what the background is? So, for example, if I want to find some kind of circular blob - can I do that? I've also read that it is used on small patches for the images around the possible feature - does that mean you have to manually select that image patch or can it be automated to process the entire image? Is there matlab code for the training step? Thanks for any help...

• Does SQLite handle non-English locales out of the box?

  I have noticed that Google Toolbox for Mac replaces several SQLite built-in functions (LOWER/UPPER, LIKE, GLOB) with its own versions that handle string locales better. So, question to everyone who has SQLite experience: have you ever had any problems with non-English locales in SQLite? Does one really have to do something to properly handle non-English alphabets? What kinds of problems are expected if I use SQLite APIs as-is? (I'm going to use SQLite on the iPhone, but I guess it's the same across all platforms. I've been using Core Data previously and never had any problems, but this time I want to switch to non-ORMed db access.)

• How to save big "database-like" class in python

  Hi there, I'm doing a project with reasonalby big DataBase. It's not a probper DB file, but a class with format as follows: DataBase.Nodes.Data=[[] for i in range(1,1000)] f.e. this DataBase is all together something like few thousands rows. Fisrt question - is the way I'm doing efficient, or is it better to use SQL, or any other "proper" DB, which I've never used actually. And the main question - I'd like to save my DataBase class with all record, and then re-open it with Python in another session. Is that possible, what tool should I use? cPickle - it seems to be only for strings, any other? In matlab there's very useful functionality named save workspace - it saves all Your variables to a file that You can open at another session - this would be vary useful in python!

I have used KiKS (in MATLAB for simulating Khepera robots), MobotSim (in Windows, simulates a point like robot using a BASIC editor) and Player/Stage (with C/C++ on Ubuntu 9.04). My question, can MS Robotics Studio be installed in Ubuntu Linux using Wine (I am using 1.1.31) ? Has anyone done it ? Any other way to install MS Robotics Studio in Unix (Any flavour) ? • C#: standard Windows menu bars in Windows Forms

  I noticed that adding a MenuStrip (from the VS Toolbox) to my form design doesn't yield a menu bar like many native Windows applications. Instead I get a menu bar like VS's own. None of the style settings for MenuStrip appear to mimic the much more common native menu bar. Is there a way to add a menu bar to my Windows Forms application that looks the same as the one you see in Notepad, Task Manager, Windows Explorer and others? (Preferably with the designer, but I wouldn't mind adding it programmatically either.)

• pyplot: really slow creating heatmaps

  I have a loop that executes the body about 200 times. In each loop iteration, it does a sophisticated calculation, and then as debugging, I wish to produce a heatmap of a NxM matrix. But, generating this heatmap is unbearably slow and significantly slow downs an already slow algorithm. My code is along the lines: import numpy import matplotlib.pyplot as plt for i in range(200): matrix = complex_calculation() plt.set_cmap("gray") plt.imshow(matrix) plt.savefig("frame{0}.png".format(i)) The matrix, from numpy, is not huge --- 300 x 600 of doubles. Even if I do not save the figure and instead update an on-screen plot, it's even slower. Surely I must be abusing pyplot. (Matlab can do this, no problem.) How do I speed this up?

• Python Imaging: YCbCr problems

  Hi, I'm doing some image processing in Python using PIL, I need to extract the luminance layer from a series of images, and do some processing on that using numpy, then put the edited luminance layer back into the image and save it. The problem is, I can't seem to get any meaningful representation of my Image in a YCbCr format, or at least I don't understand what PIL is giving me in YCbCr. PIL documentation claims YCbCr format gives three channels, but when I grab the data out of the image using np.asarray, I get 4 channels. Ok, so I figure one must be alpha. Here is some code I'm using to test this process: import Image as im import numpy as np pengIm = im.open("Data\\Test\\Penguins.bmp") yIm = pengIm.convert("YCbCr") testIm = np.asarray(yIm) grey = testIm[:,:,0] grey = grey.astype('uint8') greyIm = im.fromarray(grey, "L") greyIm.save("Data\\Test\\grey.bmp") I'm expecting a greyscale version of my image, but what I get is this jumbled up mess: http://i.imgur.com/zlhIh.png Can anybody explain to me where I'm going wrong?   Hi, I need to create an out-of-process COM server (.exe) in C# that will be accessed by multiple other processes on the same box. The component has to be a single process because it will cache the information it provides to its consumers in memory. Note: the processes that will access my COM Server are mostly Matlab processes, thus the necessity for a COM interface. I have seen threads regarding creating in-process COM components in .Net on stack overflow (Create COM ...) and on the web, but am having a hard time to find a way to create out-of-process components with .Net. How is this achievable? Any suggested references? Thanks.

• Looking to eventually build a smartphone app...

  Hi all- I'm a young, inexperienced programmer (I've had a year of Java, some MATLAB, and HTML/CSS in school) but I've decided that to get better, I'm making it my goal to produce a simple smartphone app of some kind this year- probably either webOS or Android since I'm on a PC and can't afford a Mac just to write an iPhone app. So my question is, where do I start? I've read the threads about How to Write for Android and such, but I'm not sure I have enough Java experience to just jump right in. And then there's webOS which is based on JavaScript, correct? I guess I'd just like some input from more experienced folks. I have some Barnes and Noble book credit I'm looking to get rid of too, so if there's a guide you think would be useful, feel free to request. tl;dr: Programming newbie ultimately wants to build a simple smartphone app. Where do I start?
