  • Improved Maven Embedded GlassFish - deploy multiple apps

    Bhavani has some new over at java.net about the Maven Plugin for GlassFish and how it now supports the ability to deploy multiple applications. He also has a Tips, Tricks and Troubleshooting entry. Multiple deployments are done during the Maven pre-integration-test phase but with a goal-specific configuration for app, contextRoot, etc... The :run (all-in-one) execution also now supports admin and deploy goals. Note that these improvements will require a recent work-in-progress 4.0 version of GlassFish.

  • How do I secure a Tomcat installation?

    I have installed tomcat on my Ubuntu Home 11.10 system and can successfully access the test page online after port forwarding on 8080 within my router. I have not made any other changes to the router, Ubuntu or the tomcat install, everything else has remained standard. I intend on using this to play around with Java Servlets and basic web development for my own personal use. What steps, if any, would you suggest I take to ensure this is secure? Should I change anything within the Tomcat configuration? This seemed like a good idea to limit access - http://www.seankilleen.com/2010/09/how-to-allow-only-specific-ip-addresses_30.html But I am open to any other recommendations.

  • Nightmare: Upgrading Tomcat 5.5 to 6.0

    I'm trying to upgrade a perfectly running embedded Tomcat 5.5 to Tomcat 6.0. I understand that all I need to do is replace Tomcat 5.5 jars with 6.0. That's what I did. So I replaced the following jars: catalina-5.0.28.jar catalina-5.5.9.jar catalina-optional-5.5.9.jar commons-el.jar commons-modeler-1.1.0.jar jasper-compiler-jdt.jar jasper-compiler.jar jasper-runtime.jar jmx-5.0.28.jar jsp-api-2.0.jar naming-factory.jar naming-resources.jar servlet-api-2.4.jar servlets-default.jar tomcat-coyote.jar tomcat-http.jar tomcat-util.jar with: annotations-api.jar catalina.jar jasper.jar tomcat-dbcp.jar catalina-ant.jar el-api.jar jsp-api.jar tomcat-i18n-es.jar catalina-ha.jar jasper-el.jar servlet-api.jar tomcat-i18n-fr.jar catalina-tribes.jar jasper-jdt.jar tomcat-coyote.jar tomcat-i18n-ja.jar tomcat-juli.jar As soon as I start the server, I get the following message in the logs at INFO level: INFO: Starting Servlet Engine: Apache Tomcat/6.0.29 Dec 31, 2010 6:04:18 AM org.apache.catalina.loader.WebappClassLoader validateJarFile INFO: validateJarFile(/usr/local/blah/blue/./WEB-INF/lib/servlet-api.jar) - jar not loaded. I also downloaded javaee.jar and replaced it by servlet-api.jar, to same avail. Having tried lot of these stuff, I did not have much to look upto, so set the tomcat logging level to ALL. In the log I could see that it is trying to check for Servlet.class in each and every jar it is loading until it finds servlet-api.jar and throws "jar not loaded" message as soon as it finds servlet-api.jar. This file was accessible and could be displayed. But, all my jsp's and classes are inside WEB-INF(ofcourse). Sick and tired of this issue, please help me solve it. I've already spent 20-24 hours on this unsuccessfully. Any pointers directions hints leads?

  • Importing Thawte trial certificates into a Java keystore

    Hello, I'm trying to configure a Tomcat server with SSL. I've generated a keypair thus: $ keytool -genkeypair -alias tomcat -keyalg RSA -keystore keys Next I generate a certificate signing request: $ keytool -certreq -keyalg RSA -alias tomcat -keystore keys -file tomcat.csr Then I copy-paste the contents of tomcat.csr into a form on Thawte's website, asking for a trial SSL certificate. In return I get two certificates delimited with -----BEGIN ... -----END, that I save under tomcat.crt and thawte.crt. (Thawte calls the second certificate a 'Thawte Test CA Root' certificate). When I try to import either of them it fails: $ keytool -importcert -alias tomcat -file tomcat.crt -keystore keys Enter keystore password: keytool error: java.lang.Exception: Failed to establish chain from reply $ keytool -importcert -alias thawte -file thawtetest.crt -keystore keys Enter keystore password: keytool error: java.lang.Exception: Input not an X.509 certificate Adding the -trustcacerts option to either of these commands doesn't change anything either. Any idea what I am doing wrong here?

  • How do I access a tomcat 5.5 installation via localhost running on Virtual PC 2007?

    I have a tomcat installation of 5.5 up and running on a Virtual PC with a fresh XP pro SP3. Launching tomcat gives the standard messages: INFO: Find registry server-registry.xml at classpath resource Apr 12, 2010 11:43:44 AM org.apache.catalina.startup.Catalina start INFO: Server startup in 3576 ms However, I cannot for the life of me connect to http://localhost:8080. I've also tried http://127.0.0.1:8080 with no success. This is on the virtual PC itself that I cannot connect to the server - I haven't bothered to try it on the host machine. Can anyone provide any information on why this may be happening? It's a fresh install of tomcat using Sun's JRE 5.0 (I know, EOL, technical requirements make me have to use 5.0 and not a newer JRE).

  • Set maven to use archiva repositories WITHOUT using activeByDefault?

    I am very close to finally having a working setup with archiva and maven. The last thing that's really boggling me, is how to set up my internal and snapshot repositories - without using a profile which contains activeByDefault set to true. I am using a SUPER super pom - a company-wide pom which contains distributionManagement information for releases. I was thinking that I could specify the repositories in this pom, and configure the authentication settings in settings.xml? Can I use repositories tag without a profile? There should be no "profile" for my internal and snapshot repositories, as they will never change... What I'm trying to steer clear from, is using a "default" profile, which is active all the time. I hear activeByDefault is NOT a best practice and I don't intend to use it. With that said, how should I go about doing this? My internal repo is a mirror of the maven central repo, so I would like to lock down my developers to ONLY use our internal artifact server. Remember - I do NOT want a profile with activeByDefault set to true. I cannot stress this enough! Should I use Maven mirrors? Should I "add" additional repositories? If I take the repositories tag instead of the mirrors tag, will maven force builds to use ONLY my archiva settings, instead of the default maven central? Or is what I seek to accomplish able to be done using only the mirrors tag in maven? I know how to configure repo credentials when using repositories tag, but not with mirrors. How is this done? Is providing credentials for anything in mirrors tags the same as for anything in repositories tags? Am I missing something obvious? I've had it up to here with getting things up and running using maven. I know it will be worthwhile in the end, but it is surely causing me a ton of aggravation and resources seem to be sparse. Either that, or people are content using it however they please without regard to best-practices. Thank you

I'd like to know the steps to manually deploy it on tomcat, in order to learn how it's done, and because I don't like depending on an ide. I mean, I'd like to know how everything could be done from the command line and a text editor. I need to make the second application available to the user via a link generated from the .NET application. This part is easy, I have constructed the link in the asp.net page and the user can click on it to start working in the GWT/Tomcat session. My question is this... How do I set it up so that the Tomcat/GWT application is Only Accessible via the link in my asp.NET application? I don't want the user to be able to copy the link from my asp.net page and then share that with someone else who is not authenticated within my asp.net application.

    I'm trying to set up Tomcat behind Apache using mod_proxy_ajp. After tons of messing around with the configs I am stuck at a 403 page when trying to access tomcat. I had a 404 before but apparently something I changed along the way fixed that. I'm not sure which setting to change at this point.   • Deploying war files in tomcat6

    I am using tomcat5.5 for a long on ubuntu servers 8.10 and 9.10 and '/usr/share/tomcat/webapps/' is the path where I place my .war files and access them on the browser over network. On a sytem I've installed tomcat6 and I'm failing to find that where do I place my .war file of tomcat6's webapps. I checked deploying war under /var/lib/tomcat6/webapps/ and the war file is extracted and I think this should be the location but I could not access the page when I tried http://serverip:8080/myapp. I could access the default page properly when I navigate to http://serverip:8080. The same war file is working fine on tomcat servers which were not installed from apt repository.     I'm trying to configure reverse proxy rules in vhost.conf. I have Apache-2.2.8 on Ubuntu-8.04, monitored by Plesk-10.4.4. What I'm trying to achieve is defining a reverse proxy rule that defers all traffic to -say- http://mydomain/tomcat/ to the Tomcat server running on port 8080. I have mod_rewrite and mod_proxy loaded in Apache. As far as I understand mod_proxy docs, entering following rules in /var/www/vhosts/mydomain/conf/vhost.conf should work: <Proxy *> Order deny,allow Allow from all </Proxy> ProxyRequests off RewriteRule ^/tomcat/(.*)$ http://mydomain:8080/$1 [P] Yet, I am getting a HTTP 500: internal server error when requesting above URL. (Note: I decided to use a rewrite rule in order to at least get some information logged.)     Hi, Is it possible to create a pom file so it can be used inside another pom to add test scope dependencies? So in module E's pom.xml I have: <dependencies> <dependency> <groupId>com.example</artifactId> <artifactId>D</artifactId> <type>pom</type> <scope>test</scope> </dependency> </dependencies> So that if D's pom.xml contains dependencies on artifacts A, B, C, then these artifacts are in the compilation and execution classpath of E's tests. NOTE: the reason I want such a pom, and not rely on regular dependency resolution is that I have created a tests jar using maven-jar-plugin:test-jar and using that jar as a dependency causes maven to not use its transitive dependencies. When i want to install it for IE7 (on both vista with sp2 & windows server 2008 with sp2), it says that plugin installed sucessfully, but it does not work & nothing adds under add-ons section. I upgraded my ie to latest 8 version & even installed google optimized version of IE8, but it couldn't help me. Any idea ?

Cons: some third party sources in my repo, might slow down build process, hard to find a patched place (though can be fixed in README) Have a module, like in 1, but keep patched source files only, compile them with orignal library jar in classpath and somehow replace *.class files in library jar on build. Pros: builds faster, easy to find patched places. Cons: hard to configure, that jar hackery is non-obvious (library jar in repository and in my project assembly would be different) Keep patched *.class files in main/resources, and replace on packaging like in 2). Pros: almost none. Cons: binaries in vcs, hard to recompile a patched class as patch compilation is not automated. One nice solution is to create a distinct project with patched library sources, and deploy it on local/enterprise repository with -patched qualifier. But that would not fit for an opensourced project that is meant to be easily buildable by anyone who checks out its sources. Or should I just say "and also, before you build my project, please check out that stuff and run mvn install".

    Hello, I'm using Jquery plugin DropShadow: web site And I want to set drop shadow color manually. Color is specified in the usual manner, with a color name or hex value. The color parameter does not apply with transparent images. From documentation, so, here is my code: { ... color: "black", swap: false } It works perfect, with '#000' against 'black' it works too... But if I need shadow color, for example, red '#fff000' plugin doesn't work. I don't see any shadow. Why?

  • Configurable UI Plugin frameworks for .NET Compact Framework

    Is anyone aware of any frameworks for configuring UIs and possibly plugins for .NET Compact Framework (rich client) applications? Ideally, I'm hoping to find something that would allow you to bascially configure an application's UI and screenflow via an XML file, or some other configuration mechanism, and allow you to plugin different "Action" classes to take care of specific events, etc. in the app. We basically want to have a base application, which allows you to plugin specific/custom functionality to support different customers. I know it's a lot to find, but feel free to throw out any frameworks that might support any or all of these types of things.

    I'm embarrassed by the 'basicness' of this question, but after wasted hours, here goes. In an effort to do something with the jQuery Calculation plugin, I am playing with the basic example of the order form on the plugin site. I want to have the grand total as a form field,rather than text, so I can use the value. The function that calculates and shows the grand total is: function ($this){ // sum the total of the $("[id^=total_item]") selector var sum = $this.sum(); $("#grandTotal").text( // round the results to 2 digits sum.toFixed(2) ); } the total updates on keyup in: <span id="grandTotal"></span> But this does not work with: <input type="text" id="grandTotal" value=""/> Can anyone point me to what I need to add/change to make that work? To call my javascript basic would be a compliment, so please talk to me like I know nothing!

  • Unknown Host error when attempting to connect to connect to Eclipse plugin repository

    Hello, I am running Ubuntu 9.10 and I'm attempting to install a plugin for Eclipse 3.5 from a repository that my company created. This worked in the past on this linux box and also works just fine on my laptop which has Windows XP installed. The exact error message I'm getting in Eclipse is: Unknown Host: <location of repository> org.eclipse.equinox.internal.provisional.p2.core.ProvisionException Any ideas what might be causing something that used to work not to work anymore? Thanks! EDIT: Also, it might be useful to know that I can connect to other eclipse plugin repositories fine; it seems that only my company's internal one is the problem.

    Hi all, I am testing my web application's security and all of my pages are served over ssl. The issue I am having is the certificate is not trusted as firefox starts in a new profile each time. I was reading on OpenQA's site about a jar and importing the certificate, but that is only for Internet Explorer and Firefox should automatically be handled. Is there anything special I need to do in order for certificates to automatically be trusted? Thanks, Walter

  • Java-Maven: How to add manually a library to the maven repository?

    I'm trying to generate a jasperReport, but I receive this: net.sf.jasperreports.engine.util.JRFontNotFoundException: Font 'Times New Roman' is not available to the JVM. See the Javadoc for more details. After searching on the net, I found that I need to add a jar to the classpath with the font. So, I create a jar file with the ttf files and now I want to add this as a dependency to my pom file. So: I installed the file : mvn install:install-file -Dfile=tf.jar -DgroupId=tf -DartifactId=tf -Dversion=1.0.0 -Dpackaging=jar and in my pom, I added these lines: <dependency> <groupId>tf</groupId> <artifactId>tf</artifactId> <version>1.0.0</version> </dependency> but I receive this: Dependency 'tf:tf:1.0.0' not found less I checked the repository folder and the jar file is there, in ... tf\tf\1.0.0\ What I'm doing wrong?
