• How to connect from ruby to MS Sql Server

- by apetrov
Hi Crowd! I'm trying to connect to the sql server 2005 database from *NIX machine: I have the following configuration: Linux 64bit ruby -v ruby 1.8.6 (2007-09-24 patchlevel 111) [x86_64-linux] important gems: dbd-odbc (0.2.4) dbi (0.4.1) active record sql server adapter - as plugin ruby-odbc 0.9996 (installed without any options.) unixODBC is installed freeTDS is installed cat /etc/odbcinst.ini [FreeTDS] Description = TDS driver (Sybase/MS SQL) Driver = /usr/lib/libtdsodbc.so Setup = /usr/lib/odbc/libtdsS.so CPTimeout = CPReuse = FileUsage = 1 DSN: DRIVER=FreeTDS;TDS_Version=8.0;SERVER=XXXX;DATABASE=XXX;Port=1433;uid=XXX;pwd=XXXX;" or DRIVER=/usr/lib/libtdsodbc.so;TDS_Version=8.0;SERVER=XXXX;DATABASE=XXX;Port=1433;uid=XXX;pwd=XXXX;" I receive the following error: >>ActiveRecord::Base.sqlserver_connection({"mode"=>"ODBC", "adapter"=>"sqlserver", "dsn"=>my_dns) DBI::DatabaseError: IM002 (0) [unixODBC][Driver Manager]Data source name not found, and no default driver specified from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/DBD/ODBC/ODBC.rb:95:in `connect' from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/dbi.rb:424:in `connect' from /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/dbi.rb:215:in `connect' from /opt/ublip/rails/current/vendor/plugins/activerecord-sqlserver-adapter/lib/active_record/connection_adapters/sqlserver_adapter.rb:47:in `sqlserver_connection' It looks like ODBC unable to find appropriate ODBC driver, but I have no ideas why. I had a problem with /usr/lib/libtdsodbc.so which is empty in default debian package free-tds dev, but i solved it with remove broken package and installation from sources. Will appreciate any thought! Thanks & Regards Note: I'm albe to connect using the same steps on mac 10.5

• Dynamic SQL To Dynamic LINQ in VB.NET with MS SQL Server 2008

- by user337501
I dread asking this question, because with what I've read so far I understand im gonna have to cram a lotta new things into my head. In spite of all the similiar questions(and the wide variety of answers) I thought I'd ask as nothing I've read tailors to what I need specifically enough. I need to represent the following query using LINQ: DECLARE @PurchasedInventoryItemID Int = 2 DECLARE @PurchasedInventorySectionID Int = 0 DECLARE @PurchasedInventoryItem_PurchasingCategoryID Int = 3 DECLARE @PurchasedInventorySection_PurchasingCategoryID Int = 0 DECLARE @IsActive Bit = 1 DECLARE @PropertyID Int = 2 DECLARE @PropertyValue nvarchar(1000) = 'Granny Smith' --Property1, Property2, Property3 ... SELECT O.PurchasedInventoryObjectID, O.PurchasedInventoryObjectName, O.PurchasedInventoryConjunctionID, O.Summary, O.Count, O.PropertyCount, O.IsActive FROM tblPurchasedInventoryObject As O INNER JOIN tblPurchasedInventoryConjunction As C ON C.PurchasedInventoryConjunctionID = O.PurchasedInventoryConjunctionID INNER JOIN tblPurchasedInventoryItem As I ON I.PurchasedInventoryItemID = C.PurchasedInventoryItemID INNER JOIN tblPurchasedInventorySection As S ON S.PurchasedInventorySectionID = C.PurchasedInventorySectionID INNER JOIN tblPurchasedInventoryPropertyMap as M ON M.PurchasedInventoryObjectID = O.PurchasedInventoryObjectID INNER JOIN tblPropertyValue As V ON V.PropertyValueID = M.PropertyValueID WHERE I.PurchasedInventoryItemID = @PurchasedInventoryItemID AND S.PurchasedInventorySectionID = @PurchasedInventorySectionID AND I.PurchasingCategoryID = @PurchasedInventoryItem_PurchasingCategoryID AND S.PurchasingCategoryID = @PurchasedInventorySection_PurchasingCategoryID AND O.IsActive = @IsActive AND V.PropertyID = @PropertyID AND V.Value = @PropertyValue Now, I know that a query in .NET doesnt look like this, this is my test in the SQL Design Studio. Naturally VB.NET variables will be used in place of the SQL local variables. My problem is this: All of the conditions after "WHERE" are optional. In that a query might be made that uses one, some, all, or none of the conditions. V.PropertyID and V.Value can also appear any number of times. In VB.NET I can make this query easy enough by simply concatenating strings, and using a loop to append the "V.PropertyID/V.Value" conditions. I can also make a Stored Procedure in MS SQL, which is easy enough. However, I want to accomplish this using LINQ. If anyone could direct me, I would be most appreciative.

• MS Access Interop - How to set print filename?

- by Ryan
Hi all, I'm using Delphi 2009 and the MS Access Interop COM API. I'm trying to figure out two things, but one is more important than the other right now. I need to know how to set the file name when sending the print job to the spooler. Right now it's defaulting to the Access DB's name, which can be something different than the file's name. I need to just ensure that when this is printed it enters the print spool using the same filename as the actual file itself - not the DB's name. My printer spool is actually a virtual print driver that converts documents to an image. That's my main issue. The second issue is how to specify which printer to use. This is less important at the moment because I'm just using the default printer for now. It would be nice if I could specify the printer to use, though. Does anyone know either of these two issues? Thank you in advance. I'll go ahead and paste my code: unit Converter.Handlers.Office.Access; interface uses sysutils, variants, Converter.Printer, Office_TLB, Access_TLB, UDC_TLB; procedure ToTiff(p_Printer: PrinterDriver; p_InputFile, p_OutputFile: String); implementation procedure ToTiff(p_Printer: PrinterDriver; p_InputFile, p_OutputFile: String); var AccessApp : AccessApplication; begin AccessApp := CoAccessApplication.Create; AccessApp.Visible := False; try AccessApp.OpenCurrentDatabase(p_InputFile, True, ''); AccessApp.RunCommand(acCmdQuickPrint); AccessApp.CloseCurrentDatabase; finally AccessApp.Quit(acQuitSaveNone); end; end; end.

• MS Surface Tag Visualizer steals contact events

- by Isak Savo
I'm struggling with the TagVisualizer control on an MS Surface project. In theory the control seems great, allowing you to respond to input from real world physical objects The problem is that the control will cover the entire screen (since I want to capture tags on the entire screen) and as such, no other controls in my app will receive the touch events. (Unless, they are direct ascendants in the visual tree). In my app, I want to have a "layer" type of a approach, where each layer can respond to (contact) input: Window `- Grid `- LayersPanel `- TagVisualizer `- Layer 1 `- Layer 2 `- Layer 3 `- Layer 4 Now it doesn't matter where I put the tag visualizer, it's always going to steal contact events from all or some of the other layers. (due to the nature of RoutedEvents) To me, it seems like the control is completely useless in practice as it will always interfere with your application's other controls. What am I missing here? So my questions are: Any suggestions on how to work around this? Has anyone used TagVisualizers in a similar scenario? If so, how did you solve this? By the way, the layers all work fine, since they will only steal events that are directly on top of their sub elements (the rest of the layer is invisible to hit testing)

• Alternative to MS Project 2007 for production scheduling?

- by john c
OK... Im coming to grips with the fact that MS Project 2007 may not be the correct tool for my production scheduling. We serve 120 to 150 projects a year with durations from 6 weeks to 12 months. The task are simple (6 to 8 per project) and the resource pool is stable (15 to 20 people). It's really an assembly line product but with extremely varied durations. I need to be able to prioritize the projects for production and run projects concurrently to fully utilize my resources. What are the feelings of the stackoverflow community. Am I using the wrong program? I was really hoping to make this simple for non-programer types to input project data into a form and have the schedule software automated enough to make most of the decisions. Is there a better solution available commercially? I'd like to hold on writing a custom spreadsheet as a last resort but if that's the best route then so be it. Thank you so much for your input.

• Finding Common Phrases in MS SQL TEXT Column

- by regex
Hello All, Short Desc: I'm curious to see if I can use SQL Analysis services or some other MS SQL service to mine some data for me that will show commonalities between SQL TEXT fields in a dataset. Long Desc I am looking at a subset of data that consists of about 10,000 rows of TEXT blobs which are used as a notes column in a issue tracking (ticketing) software. I would like to use something out of the box (without having to build something) that might be able to parse through all of the rows and find commonly used byte sequences in the "Notes" column. In other words, I want to find commonly used phrases (two to three word phrases, so 9 - 20 character sections of the TEXT blob). This will help me better determine if associate's notes contain similar phrases (troubleshooting techniques) that we could standardize in our troubleshooting process flow. Closing Note I'd really rather not build an application to do this as my method will probably not be the most efficient way to do it. Hopefully all this makes sense. Please let me know in the comments if anything needs clarification. Thanks in advance for your help.

• Updating MS Access Database from Datagridview

- by Peter Roche
I am trying to update an ms access database from a datagridview. The datagridview is populated on a button click and the database is updated when any cell is modified. The code example I have been using populates on form load and uses the cellendedit event. private OleDbConnection connection = null; private OleDbDataAdapter dataadapter = null; private DataSet ds = null; private void Form2_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { string connetionString = "Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;Data Source='C:\\Users\\Peter\\Documents\\Visual Studio 2010\\Projects\\StockIT\\StockIT\\bin\\Debug\\StockManagement.accdb';Persist Security Info=True;Jet OLEDB:Database Password="; string sql = "SELECT * FROM StockCount"; connection = new OleDbConnection(connetionString); dataadapter = new OleDbDataAdapter(sql, connection); ds = new DataSet(); connection.Open(); dataadapter.Fill(ds, "Stock"); connection.Close(); dataGridView1.DataSource = ds; dataGridView1.DataMember = "Stock"; } private void addUpadateButton_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { } private void dataGridView1_CellEndEdit(object sender, DataGridViewCellEventArgs e) { try { dataadapter.Update(ds,"Stock"); } catch (Exception exceptionObj) { MessageBox.Show(exceptionObj.Message.ToString()); } } The error I receive is Update requires a valid UpdateCommand when passed DataRow collection with modified rows. I'm not sure where this command needs to go and how to reference the cell to update the value in the database.

• MS SQL find and replace in TEXT field

- by incubushead
I have a database in MS SQL 2005 that was brought up from SQL 2000 and is still using TEXT type fields instead of varchar(max). I need to find and replace a string of characters in the text field but all of the examples of how to do this that I have found don't seem like they would work for me. It seems the UPDATETEXT command requires that the two parameters "insert_offset" and "delete_length" be set explicitly but the string i am searching for could show up in the text at any point or even at several points in the same cell. My understanding of these two parameters is that the string im searching for will always be in the same place, so that insert_offset is the number of spaces into the text that the UPDATETEXT command will start replacing text. Example: Need to find: <u> and Replace it with: Text field example: *Everyone in the room was <u>tired</u>.
Then they woke <u>up</u>. Can anyone help me out with this? THANKS!

• psqlODBC won't load after installing MS SQL ODBC driver on RHEL 6

- by Kapil Vyas
I had the PostgreSQL drivers working on my RHEL 6. But after I installed Microsoft® SQL Server® ODBC Driver 1.0 for Linux I can no longer connect to PosgreSQL data sources. I can connect to SQL Server data sources fine. When I had this same issue a week ago I uninstalled MS SQL Server ODBC driver from Linux and it fixed the issue. I had to copy the psqlodbcw.so files from another machine to replenish the files. I don't want to do the same this time. I want both drivers to work on Linux. This time around the setup files got deleted: /usr/lib64/libodbcpsqlS.so. Replenishing it did not fix the issue. I kept getting the following error in spite of the file being present with rwx permisions: [root@localhost lib64]# isql -v STUDENT dsname pwd12345 [01000][unixODBC][Driver Manager]Can't open lib '/usr/lib64/psqlodbc.so' : file not found [ISQL]ERROR: Could not SQLConnect [root@localhost lib64]# Here is a printout of the file permissions: [root@localhost lib64]# ls -al p*.so lrwxrwxrwx. 1 root root 12 Dec 7 09:15 psqlodbc.so -> psqlodbcw.so -rwxr-xr-x. 1 root root 519496 Dec 7 09:35 psqlodbcw.so and my odbcinst.ini file looks as follows: [PostgreSQL] Description=ODBC for PostgreSQL Driver=/usr/lib/psqlodbc.so Driver64=/usr/lib64/psqlodbc.so Setup=/usr/lib/libodbcpsqlS.so Setup64=/usr/lib64/libodbcpsqlS.so FileUsage=1 UsageCount=4 I also referred to this link: http://mailman.unixodbc.org/pipermail/unixodbc-support/2010-September.txt

• IPad SQLite Push and Pull Data from external MS SQL Server DB

- by MattyD
This carries on from my previous post (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/4182664/ipad-app-pull-and-push-relational-data). My plan is that when the ipad application starts I am going to pull data (config data i.e. Departments, Types etc etc relational data that is used across the system) from a webhosted MS SQL Server DB via a webservice and populate it into an SQL Lite DB on the IPad. Then when I load a listing I will pull the data over the line again via a webservice and populate it into the SQL Lite db on the ipad (than just run select commands to populate the listing). My questions are: 1. What is the most efficient way to transfer data across the line via the web? Everyone seems to do it a different way. My idea is that I will have a webService for each type of data pull (e.g. RetrieveContactListing) that will query the db and than convert that data into "something" to send across the line. My question really is what is the "something" that it should be converting into? 2. Everyone talks about odata services. Is this suited for applications where complex read and writes are needed? Ive created a simple iphone app before that talked to an sql server db (i just sent my own structured xml across the line) but now with this app the data calls are going to be a lot larger so efficiency is key.

• MS SQL - High performance data inserting with stored procedures

- by Marks
Hi. Im searching for a very high performant possibility to insert data into a MS SQL database. The data is a (relatively big) construct of objects with relations. For security reasons i want to use stored procedures instead of direct table access. Lets say i have a structure like this: Document MetaData User Device Content ContentItem[0] SubItem[0] SubItem[1] SubItem[2] ContentItem[1] ... ContentItem[2] ... Right now I think of creating one big query, doing somehting like this (Just pseudo-code): EXEC @DeviceID = CreateDevice ...; EXEC @UserID = CreateUser ...; EXEC @DocID = CreateDocument @DeviceID, @UserID, ...; EXEC @ItemID = CreateItem @DocID, ... EXEC CreateSubItem @ItemID, ... EXEC CreateSubItem @ItemID, ... EXEC CreateSubItem @ItemID, ... ... But is this the best solution for performance? If not, what would be better? Split it into more querys? Give all Data to one big stored procedure to reduce size of query? Any other performance clue? I also thought of giving multiple items to one stored procedure, but i dont think its possible to give a non static amount of items to a stored procedure. Since 'INSERT INTO A VALUES (B,C),(C,D),(E,F) is more performant than 3 single inserts i thought i could get some performance here. Thanks for any hints, Marks

• Novo Suporte para Combinação e Minificação de Arquivos JavaScript e CSS (Série de posts sobre a ASP.NET 4.5)

- by Leniel Macaferi
• How do Oracle Forms compare to Microsoft Access as a "front-end"?

- by webworm
I recently started a project where I was set to build an ADP based application in Access 2003. The font end GUI was going to be in Access while all the data resided in MS SQL Server. I say "was", because the powers that be have decided that Oracle Forms might be a better choice than Access and SQL Server. The place where I am doing this work is an Oracle shop where they use Oracle 10g. They also use Oracle Forms quite a bit internally. As for me I am always up for learning anything new. I have always been a rather "eclectic" developer (I work with .NET WinForms, ASP.NET, Java, C#, Python, and Access) so I would not mind moving to Oracle Forms as long as it could do the same things as MS Access (hopefully even more as VBA is rather limited). So my question is this. How does Oracle Forms (10g) compare to MS Access for developing a GUI application? Access uses VBA for it's language, what does Oracle Forms use? I know the Forms app is a Java applet. Does that means you can write Oracle Forms using Java?

• [DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]SQL Server does not exist or access denied.

- by shah
Web server and SQL server both are running on the different machine. The below is the connection string that we are using to connect MS SQL database from classic ASP web application. set oConn = server.createobject("ADODB.Connection") oConn.open "PROVIDER=SQLOLEDB;Data Source=xxx.xxx.x.xx,1433;Network Library=DBMSSOCN;Initial Catalog=databasename;User ID=xxxxx;Password=xxxxx;" No idea why it's loosing the database connection in the middle of uploading the page. Here is error message that we got. Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server error '80004005' [DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]SQL Server does not exist or access denied. Already verified SQL server 2005 remote connection settings and default port number. * Remote connections are enabled in SQL Server as per http://support.microsoft.com/kb/914277 Please help. Thanks,

• Powershell and long-running external tools?

- by leeand00
I'm trying to compact a MS-Access database using JetComp.exe using a powershell script. Here is the operative lines: # 4. Run JetComp LogWrite("Begin: Running JetComp") .\JETCOMP.EXE -src: $srcDB -dest: $dstDB | Out-Null #Run this command and wait for it to finish... IfErrorExit("Error Compacting Database") LogWrite("End: Running JetComp") The JETCOMP.EXE program seems to complete long before it is actually finished and the $dstDB ends up being smaller than the compact should even make it. Initially ($srcDB) it's about 1.8 GB and by the time the command finishes it's about 300,000 kb (about 0.29 gb) that's a pretty long way off from 1.8 gb which when compacted manually ends up being about 1.6 gb. Is there some sort of timeout I don't know about in powershell scripts? P.S. I know that when running JETCOMP.EXE manually, that the system often detects it as "not responding" even though it's actually getting the job done, and waiting long enough will allow it to complete.

• Office 2007 network share access denied

- by Rodent43
Hope I have not duplicated an issue already posted but I could not find anything from the search... Right here is the problem, we have recently updated all our desktops to the MS Office 2007 suite and people have issues trying to open simple files like word documents... the systems are Windows XP (SP3) Novell Network with novell client Office 2007 when they try to open a word document from a usual network share word presents a message reporting Access Denied Contact Administrator So we assumed network permissions, none of which have changed...so try the same file with Wordpad and it opens fine, be it with formating issues of course... Now copy the file to your desktop, which is not redirected, and you can open the file in word as normal... so does anyone know if office 2007 uses some new permission when opening files? does it create temps or something... any pointers would be appreciated

• How to configure mspaint on Windows Server 2008R2/ Win 7 to start up with 1-pixel canvas or auto-crop a pasted image?

- by Fantomas
I do a lot of screen print capturing, and I have just figured out how to use AutoHotKey to paste screen prints into MsPaint automatically. How to paste Print Screen on MS Paint automatically when press "PrtSc" button ? However, one small problem I have is that ... if I grabbed a screen with Alt-Prt Scr that is only 50x50 pixels, then there would be extra white margin around it, because MSPaint starts out with a larger canvas by default. How can I make it ALWAYS start with 1x1 instead?

• What are the dos and dont's when leaving a job? [closed]

- by john ryan
I'm going to resign from my current employer (manufacturing sector), where I've been working for 2.6 years as an IT Application Developer. It's the first company I've worked in after I graduated from college. I don't have any problem with the company, I just realized that I want to learn new technologies and get out of my comfort zone and move to the IT industry. I already got a job offer from another company. My IT manager has told me that I am one of the best players in our group, that our group is enough to support our company and that it would be unacceptable if anyone of us resigned. They will counter the offer, but I'm set on leaving. My problem is that I don't know what are the essential dos and don'ts when resigning from a current employer. For example I'm expecting a lot of inquiries on why I'm leaving from people in the company, what do I need to say?

• Delphi 2009 MS Build headaches

- by X-Ray
does anyone know of any good description of delphi's build system? (i know it's using MS Build.) i'm using delphi 2009. i wanted to set up a variation of the Debug build configuration that (often) has different defines (d2009 seems to call them "preprocessor symbols"). the problem i'm having is that--even though i turned off "inherit" for "Base" and "Debug"--have only very limited control. for example, i can't get rid of FastMM_. <PropertyGroup> <ProjectGuid>{D7FE7347-8E2C-438C-A275-38B8DA9244B0}</ProjectGuid> <ProjectVersion>12.0</ProjectVersion> <MainSource>oca.dpr</MainSource> <Config Condition="'$(Config)'==''">Debug</Config> <DCC_DCCCompiler>DCC32</DCC_DCCCompiler> </PropertyGroup> <PropertyGroup Condition="'$(Config)'=='Base' or '$(Base)'!=''"> true </PropertyGroup> <PropertyGroup Condition="'$(Config)'=='Release' or '$(Cfg_1)'!=''"> <Cfg_1>true</Cfg_1> <CfgParent>Base</CfgParent> true </PropertyGroup> <PropertyGroup Condition="'$(Config)'=='Debug' or '$(Cfg_2)'!=''"> <Cfg_2>true</Cfg_2> <CfgParent>Base</CfgParent> true </PropertyGroup> <PropertyGroup Condition="'$(Base)'!=''"> <DCC_StringChecks>off</DCC_StringChecks> <DCC_MinimumEnumSize>4</DCC_MinimumEnumSize> <DCC_RangeChecking>true</DCC_RangeChecking> <DCC_IntegerOverflowCheck>true</DCC_IntegerOverflowCheck> <DCC_UNIT_PLATFORM>false</DCC_UNIT_PLATFORM> <DCC_SYMBOL_PLATFORM>false</DCC_SYMBOL_PLATFORM> <DCC_DcuOutput>.\dcu</DCC_DcuOutput> <DCC_UnitSearchPath>C:\Prj\Lib\AutoQADocking\Delphi2009.Win32\Lib;$(BDS)\Source\DUnit\src;$(DCC_UnitSearchPath)</DCC_UnitSearchPath> <DCC_Optimize>false</DCC_Optimize> <DCC_DependencyCheckOutputName>oca.exe</DCC_DependencyCheckOutputName> <DCC_ImageBase>00400000</DCC_ImageBase> <DCC_UnitAlias>WinTypes=Windows;WinProcs=Windows;DbiTypes=BDE;DbiProcs=BDE;DbiErrs=BDE;$(DCC_UnitAlias)</DCC_UnitAlias> <DCC_Platform>x86</DCC_Platform> <DCC_E>false</DCC_E> <DCC_N>false</DCC_N> <DCC_S>false</DCC_S> <DCC_F>false</DCC_F> <DCC_K>false</DCC_K> </PropertyGroup> <PropertyGroup Condition="'$(Cfg_1)'!=''"> <DCC_PentiumSafeDivide>true</DCC_PentiumSafeDivide> <DCC_Optimize>true</DCC_Optimize> <DCC_IntegerOverflowCheck>false</DCC_IntegerOverflowCheck> <BRCC_Defines>MadExcept;FastMM;$(BRCC_Defines)</BRCC_Defines> <DCC_AssertionsAtRuntime>false</DCC_AssertionsAtRuntime> <DCC_LocalDebugSymbols>false</DCC_LocalDebugSymbols> <DCC_Define>RELEASE;$(DCC_Define)</DCC_Define> <DCC_SymbolReferenceInfo>0</DCC_SymbolReferenceInfo> <DCC_DebugInformation>false</DCC_DebugInformation> </PropertyGroup> <PropertyGroup Condition="'$(Cfg_2)'!=''"> <DCC_DebugInfoInExe>true</DCC_DebugInfoInExe> <BRCC_Defines>FastMM</BRCC_Defines> <DCC_DebugDCUs>true</DCC_DebugDCUs> <DCC_MapFile>3</DCC_MapFile> <DCC_Define>DEBUG;FastMM_;madExcept;$(DCC_Define)</DCC_Define> </PropertyGroup> i even had to edit it today with notepad to get rid of a DCC define that the delphi UI doesn't seem to give access to. (it said "From Delphi Compiler" for the item i couldn't remove.) does anyone know a good primer on the use of this feature in delphi? thank you!

• Word 2007 crashes on Server 2008 R2 terminal services

- by John Rennie
We are finding that Word 2007 (with SP2) crashes when used on a Windows 2008 R2 terminal server. Typically it crashes when you click File/Open or File/Save, but not every time. Maybe one time in four, and just to be really confusing, on a test server in my office I can't make it crash. I have just today set up a brand new shiny 2k8 R2 terminal server with as simple a setup as possible, e.g. no anti-virus to confuse things, and we're still seeing crashes. My question is has anyone else seen this, and if so any clues on what's happening? We have a support case open with Microsoft, and the MS support engineer has conceded it's happening, but has so far been unable to find the reason. On possible factor is that all the 2k8 R2 terminal servers I've seen this on have been Hyper-V VMs (running on a 2k8 R2 host). I'm about to put in a physical 2k8 R2 terminal server at the customer where we're seeing the most crashes, in case this is relevant. More news soon. Sorry if this posting seems a bit vague, but this has just bitten us and is causing a lot of pain and sleepless nights :-( If anyone can help I'll be enormously grateful! Update: we've given up and gone back to 2008 pre-R2. Both Office 2003 and 2007 both work fine now. I think there are some problems with TS in R2. Googling doesn't find much, so I thought it was just me. It's reassuring to find that someone else has seen the same problem.
