• How to/syntax to checkout several modules by release tag names in Hudson

  Hi all, Under Hudson, does somebody know how to specify a release tag name in a cvs checkout ? At the moment, i only specify the CVSROOT and modules names to checkout my project in my workspace. I tried to add '-r TAG_NAME' for each module name, but it doesn't work. I think that this functionality exist, so if someone as the right syntax/way to do it.. :) Thanks in advance for your help. • Is there a fix for Windows 8 Release Preview freezing intermittently on Macbook Air

  I've successfully installed Windows 8 x64 Release Preview on a 2010 Macbook Air (4GB/256GB). I was also able to install the Apple Boot Camp tools without incident, but the computer will intermittently freeze up completely (need a forced shutdown) for no apparent reason. As such, there is no logging information to help me troubleshoot this any further. I have no other software installed at this point; only the latest updates from Microsoft. Any ideas?

  Here there, I have a custom UIView. This view acts as a activity indicator but as label above the UIActivityIndicatorView. In the init, I add a CAGradientLayer. I allocate and initialize it and insert it at index 0 as a sublayer of the UIView layer property. In my dealloc method was called, I received a message in the console: - [CALayer release]: message sent to deallocated instance.   While putting together some examples of the Solaris 11 Automated Installer (AI), I managed to really mess up my system, to the point where AI was completely unusable. This was my fault as a combination of unfortunate incidents left some remnants that were causing problems, so I tried to clean things up. Unsuccessfully. Perhaps that was a bad idea (OK, it was a terrible idea), but this is Solaris 11 and there are a few more tricks in the sysadmin toolbox. Let me know which one of the following is your favorite article from memory lane. 2006 Query to Find ByteSize of All the Tables in Database This was my second blog post and today I do not remember what was the business need which has made me build this query. It was built for SQL Server 2000 and it will not directly run on SQL Server 2005 or later version now. It measured the byte size of the tables in the database. This can be done in many different ways as well for example SP_HELPDB as well SP_HELP. I wish to build similar script in 2005 and later version. 2007 This week I had completed my – 1 Year (365 blogs) and very first 1 Million Views. I was pretty excited at that time with this new achievement. SQL SERVER Versions, CodeNames, Year of Release When I started with SQL Server I did not know all the names correctly for each version and I often used to get confused with this. However, as time passed by I started to remember all the codename as well. In this blog post I have not included SQL Server 2012′s code name as it was not released at the time. SQL Server 2012′s code name is Denali. Here is the question for you – anyone know what is the internal name of the SQL Server’s next version? Searching String in Stored Procedure I have already started to work with 2005 by this time and I was personally converting each of my stored procedures to SQL Server 2005 compatible. As we were upgrading from SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 2005 we had to search each of the stored procedures and make sure that we remove incompatible code from it. For example, syscolumns of SQL Server 2000 was now being replaced by sys.columns of SQL Server 2005. This stored procedure was pretty helpful at that time. Later on I build few additional versions of the same stored procedure. Version 1: This version finds the Stored Procedures related to Table Version 2: This is specific version which works with SQL Server 2005 and later version 2008 Clear Drop Down List of Recent Connection From SQL Server Management Studio It happens to all of us when we connected to some remote client server and we never ever have to connect to it again. However, it keeps on bothering us that the name shows up in the list all the time. In this blog post I covered a quick tip about how we can remove the same. I also wrote a small article about How to Check Database Integrity for all Databases and there was a funny question from a reader requesting T-SQL code to refresh databases. 2009 Stored Procedure are Compiled on First Run – SP is taking Longer to Run First Time A myth is quite prevailing in the industry that Stored Procedures are pre-compiled and they should always run faster. It is not true. Stored procedures are compiled on very first execution of it and that is the reason why it takes longer when it executes first time. In this blog post I had a great time discussing the same concept. If you do not agree with it, you are welcome to read this blog post. Removing Key Lookup – Seek Predicate – Predicate – An Interesting Observation Related to Datatypes Performance Tuning is an interesting concept and my personal favorite one. In many blog posts I have described how to do performance tuning and how to improve the performance of the queries. In this quick quick tip I have explained how one can remove the Key Lookup and improve performance. Have you ever used this SP or feature? Additionally I had a great time presenting on SQL Server Best Practices in SharePoint Conference. 2011 SSMS 2012 Reset Keyboard Shortcuts to Default It is very much possible that we mix up various SQL Server shortcuts and at times we feel like resetting it to default. In SQL Server 2012 it is not easy to do it, there is a process to follow and I enjoyed blogging about it. Fundamentals of Columnstore Index Columnstore index is introduced in SQL Server 2012 and have been a very popular subject. It increases the speed of the server dramatically as well can be an extremely useful feature with Datawharehousing. However updating the columnstore index is not as simple as a simple UPDATE statement. Read in a detailed blog post about how Update works with Columnstore Index. SQL Server 2012 New Features I had decided to explore SQL Server 2012 features last year and went through pretty much every single concept introduced in separate blog posts.   Welcome to the first post of the new Oracle Retail International Blog. Retail is an international business and today's successful retailers view themselves in the context of a global market. A niche fashion business in Tokyo will learn marketing strategies from the luxury brands of Milan, an independent grocer in Oslo will source the same global brands as a supermarket in Oklahoma, and every retailer in the world will measure their multi-channel operation against the international e-commerce giant Amazon.  Why? Because today's customer is a global customer with unparalleled expectations on choice, price and service. Today's consumers have access to more information on retail than ever before. Technology allows people to shop from their home, their office or from the phone in their pocket, wherever they are and at whatever time suits them. Customers are using the web to search for products and promotions. They are also using the web to develop their voice in commenting on products and services that have delighted or disappointed. In an information rich industry, this customer element creates a new world of data. The best retailers are developing eagle eyes for reading customer activity and turning it into profitable decisions. Ultimately, whether you choose to compete or shop on price, service, product innovation, excellent operations or all of the above - the international world of retail has become an inspiration for all - retailer and consumer alike.  Retail as an industry is growing and diversifying at a faster rate than ever before. Yet it is still the customer who picks the winners and the losers on the retail field. Economic circumstances transform the rules, but it is still the customer who dictates the game, the pace, the price, and the perception of the brand. Wise retailers never rest on their laurels. They are always shopping for ideas on how to improve and differentiate the offer at every touch point to meet the customer's needs better than anyone else and to gain each customer's loyalty at a time when loyalty can be cheap. With this blog, I hope that we might provide a hub for discussion around what unifies retail and how technology supports both the retailer and customer experience. At Oracle we've been supporting retailers for many years. Many of us have worked within retail organisations all over the world, myself included. With this in mind, I don't feel it is too bold a statement to say that Oracle understands retail. We wouldn't be so heavily integrated in some of the biggest and most well-known names in retail if we didn't. With this blog, we intend to create a community of international retailers that can exchange ideas and experiences, debate collective challenges and drive a better understanding of this continually evolving industry. Events such as the World Retail Congress and NRF's Big Show bring enormous value to the retail industry providing platforms for discussion and learning but they happen once a year. We wanted to create a platform for discussion on a different level and that like retail, is always on. We hope not only to bring commitment to being not only the infrastructure that brings all of their systems together within a retail business, but an infrastructure that supports the industry internationally to grow and flourish through creating a platform for networking, discussion, creativity, vision and strategy.   Oracle Enterprise Manager Cloud Control 12c Release 2 (12.1.0.2) is now available on OTN on ALL platforms. This is the first major release since the launch of Enterprise Manager 12c in October of 2011 and the first ever Enterprise Manager release available on all platforms simultaneously. This is primarily a stability release which incorporates many of issues and feedback reported by early adopters. In addition, this release contains many new features and enhancements in areas across the board.   New Capabilities and Features   Enhanced management capabilities for enterprise private clouds: Introduces new capabilities to allow customers to build and manage a Java Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) cloud based on Oracle Weblogic Server. The new capabilities include guided set up of PaaS Cloud, self-service provisioning, automatic scale out and metering and chargeback. • A Look at the GridView's New Sorting Styles in ASP.NET 4.0

  Like every Web control in the ASP.NET toolbox, the GridView includes a variety of style-related properties, including CssClass, Font, ForeColor, BackColor, Width, Height, and so on. The GridView also includes style properties that apply to certain classes of rows in the grid, such as RowStyle, AlternatingRowStyle, HeaderStyle, and PagerStyle. Each of these meta-style properties offer the standard style properties (CssClass, Font, etc.) as subproperties. In ASP.NET 4.0, Microsoft added four new style properties to the GridView control: SortedAscendingHeaderStyle, SortedAscendingCellStyle, SortedDescendingHeaderStyle, and SortedDescendingCellStyle. These four properties are meta-style properties like RowStyle and HeaderStyle, but apply to column of cells rather than a row. These properties only apply when the GridView is sorted - if the grid's data is sorted in ascending order then the SortedAscendingHeaderStyle and SortedAscendingCellStyle properties define the styles for the column the data is sorted by. The SortedDescendingHeaderStyle and SortedDescendingCellStyle properties apply to the sorted column when the results are sorted in descending order. These four new properties make it easier to customize the appearance of the column by which the data is sorted. Using these properties along with a touch of Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) it is possible to add up and down arrows to the sorted column's header to indicate whether the data is sorted in ascending or descending order.   I have a couple of views that access the movie player. I've put the following code in a method in AppDelegate for these views. They send in the filename to play. The code works fine but I know a release is required somewhere. If I add the last line as a release or autorelease, the app will crash once the user presses done on the movieplayer. • My Favorite New Features in Visual Studio 2010

  On Tuesday, April 13th, Microsoft released Visual Studio 2010 and the .NET Framework 4.0 (which includes ASP.NET 4.0). To get started with Visual Studio 2010 you can either download a trial version of one of the commercial editions or you can go grab the free Visual Web Developer 2010 Express Edition. The Visual Studio 2010 user experience is noticeably different than with previous versions. Some of the changes are cosmetic - gone is the decades-old red and orange color scheme, having been replaced with blues and purples - while others are more substantial. For instance, the Visual Studio 2010 shell was rewritten from the ground up to use Microsoft's Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF). In addition to an updated user experience, Visual Studio introduces an array of new features designed to improve developer productivity.
