• Leak caused by fread

  I'm profiling code of a game I wrote and I'm wondering how it is possible that the following snippet causes an heap increase of 4kb (I'm profiling with Heapshot Analysis of Xcode) every time it is executed: u8 WorldManager::versionOfMap(FILE *file) { char magic[4]; u8 version; fread(magic, 4, 1, file); <-- this is the line fread(&version,1,1,file); fseek(file, 0, SEEK_SET); return version; } According to the profiler the highlighted line allocates 4.00Kb of memory with a malloc every time the function is called, memory which is never released. This thing seems to happen with other calls to fread around the code, but this was the most eclatant one. Is there anything trivial I'm missing? Is it something internal I shouldn't care about? Just as a note: I'm profiling it on an iPhone and it's compiled as release (-O2).

  Has anyone seen an editor/IDE that shows WYSIWYG comments inside the code? I have seen some that show the docs of an element in a separated tab/windows, but not together with code. For example, a JavaDoc comment would be much clearer and easier to edit if it had no tags and could be edited like a snippet from a normal text document. /** * Writes <code>Hello world!</code> to the <b>standard output</b>. * @seealso showGoodbye */ public static void showHello() { Could be something like this: /* Writes Hello world! to the standard output.   I am having a bit of an issue with getting tumblr working within a rails app. This is the snippet of code which results in a 400 error (meaning that there was an incorrect parameter) @postcontent = @post.content.gsub(/<\/?[^>]*>/, "") post = Tumblr::Post.create(:email => 'valid@email', :password => 'mypassword', :type => 'video', :embed = @post.video_html, :caption = @postcontent) I have checked the API docs and checked my code and code content being rendered, and it still does not want to work. The funny thing is that it worked previously. It was working about a week ago. Has something changed with tumblr?

• How do I ignore the UTF-8 Byte Order Marker in String comparisons?

  I'm having a problem comparing strings in a Unit Test in C# 4.0 using Visual Studio 2010. This same test case works properly in Visual Studio 2008 (with C# 3.5). Here's the relevant code snippet: byte[] rawData = GetData(); string data = Encoding.UTF8.GetString(rawData); Assert.AreEqual("Constant", data, false, CultureInfo.InvariantCulture); While debugging this test, the data string appears to the naked eye to contain exactly the same string as the literal. When I called data.ToCharArray(), I noticed that the first byte of the string data is the value 65279 which is the UTF-8 Byte Order Marker. What I don't understand is why Encoding.UTF8.GetString() keeps this byte around. How do I get Encoding.UTF8.GetString() to not put the Byte Order Marker in the resulting string?

• Dynamically added script causes problems

  I'm loading an html snippet via ajax to append to a div (I use jquery). A part of the html loaded with ajax looks like this: <script type="text/javascript" src="http://maps.google.com/maps/api/js?sensor=false"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> var options = { mapTypeId : google.maps.MapTypeId.TERRAIN } alert('test'); var map = new google.maps.Map(document.getElementById('map-canvas'), options); </script> Then this is appended with contentBox.append(data); The problem is that this causes a black page in Firefox which keeps loading. In other browsers it seems that the code is not executed at all. Is there a solution for this?

• ModX: Selecting and outputting specific menu items using Wayfinder

  tI've been trying to output specific menu items, also wanting to change the names of some, without satisfying results. The problem is that I have three different menu setups throughout the site - the header split into two sections and the footer divided into a couple of columns. This is what I've tried so far - [[Wayfinder? &startId=0 &level=1 &limit=5 &excludeDocs=49,61,55]] While it works excluding all the other links isn's the most optimal solution as there are 11 in total plus I want to be able to 1. rearrange the order and 2. change the names of two of them. Is this possible at all using the Wayfinder or do I have to create a snippet? Thanks in advance.

• How to stop/override a Jquery TimeOut function?

  Hi, I have a small jquery snippet that displays notification message at the top of the screen in response to user actions on a page. The notification is often displayed after Ajax actions with dynamic content inside it. For example: $("#mini-txt").html("Thank you!"); $("#mini").fadeIn("fast"); setTimeout(function() {$("#mini").animate({height: "hide", opacity: "hide"}, "medium");}, 3000); The notification works well, except when a user does two or more actions in rapid succession, in which case the TimeOut function will confuse itself and the second message appears to come inside the previous 3000 milliseconds. Is there a way to "kill" the previous notification if a new action is performed. I've got no problem with the actions/selectors, just the TimeOut function.... either stopping it or overriding it somehow. Or perhaps there's a better alternative for getting the message to linger on the screen for a few seconds before disappearing? Thank you.

• Jquery .Ajax error when trying to POST data in ASP.NET MVC

  I am unable to access an action in my controller using .ajax. The code works on my development machine but as soon as I place it on the server it gives the error 401 Unauthorized. • Looking for a C# code parser

  I'm looking for a set of classes (preferably in the .net framework) that will parse C# code and return a list of functions with parameters, classes with their methods, properties etc. Ideally it would provide all that's needed to build my own intellisense. I have a feeling something like this should be in the .net framework, given all the reflection stuff they offer, but if not then an open source alternative is good enough. What I'm trying to build is basically something like Snippet Compiler, but with a twist. I'm trying to figure out how to get the code dom first. I tried googling for this but I'm not sure what the correct term for this is so I came up empty.

• Javascript form validation/sanitizing do i need regex here ?

  I have a single form input that is for checking domains. Sometimes people type in www. before the domain or .com after the domain name. The service that i use to check availability automatically checks for all top level domains so when people add the .com at the end it becomes redundant. For example the string submitted is domainname.com.com which is clearly invalid. I understand you can do this on the server side but due to some rather weird circumstance i must use javascript for this. So is regex the solution here ? If so is there some kind of regex generator i can use for this or can someone point me in the right direction with a code snippet perhaps ? Appreciate any help thanks!

• Finding the right version of the right JAR in a maven repository

  I'm converting a build that has 71 .jar files in its global lib/ directory to use Maven. Of course, these have been pulled from the web by lots of developers over the past ten years of this project's history, and weren't always added to VCS with all the necessary version info, etc. Is there an easy, automated way to go from that set of .jar files to the corresponding <dependency/> elements for use in my pom.xml files? I'm hoping for a web page where I can submit the checksum of a jar file and get back an XML snippet. The google hits for 'maven repository search' are basically just finding name-based searches. And http://repo1.maven.org/ has no search whatsoever, as far as I can see. Update: GrepCode looks like it can find projects given an MD5 checksum. But it doesn't provide the particular details (groupId, artifactId) that Maven needs.

If any other monitor is plugged in, it stops at the "CURRENT_MONITOR=ls /dev/usb | grep 'egalax_touch\|quanta_touch'." For testing I touched two files. One before creating CURRENT_MONITOR and one after CURRENT_MONITOR and only file touched before is created. I'm not a bash programmer so this might be something very obvious.

Now, my requirement is that I want to execute some processing logic contained in a servlet before displaying the file dialog to the user for 'zip' files. So If I write <a href="abc.zip".......> then it opens a file dialog asking the user to select the location where this file can be saved But if I want a servlet's doGet method to do some preprocessing - say like building the zip file , then how can I first call the servlet and then open the file dialog.
