  • How to activate Windows 8 Pro license with Releae Preview installed?

    So I'm one of the many who downloaded the Release Preview (64-bit). I now got the ISO to install Windows 8 Professional (64-bit) and a product key (note: I didn't get these from either Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant or Microsoft's web Store), everything legal. However, the Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant only gives me the option to Store my personal files which means that I'll have to say goodbye to both my Program Files and their respective configurations. I just want to input the Product Key and activate the license, why isn't this possible? Even "Add Features to Windows 8" doesn't accept the key. Do I really need to backup all of my stuff and make a clean install?

  • TextMate: Preview in Firefox without having to save document first?

    Using TextMate: Is it possible to assign a shortcut to preview/refresh the currently edited HTML document in, say, Firefox, without having to first hit Save? I'm looking for the same functionality as TextMate's built-in Web Preview window, but I'd prefer an external browser instead of TextMate's. (Mainly in order to use a JavaScript console such as Firebug for instance). Would it be possible to pipe the currently unsaved document through the shell and then preview in Firefox. And if so, is there anyone having a TextMate command for this, willing to share it?

  • One email user keeps disconnecting from our exchange server

    I have one user who keeps reporting that Outlook keeps disconnecting from our email server. All other users are fine. Our email server is running Exchange 2010 and the client is running Outlook 2003. The disconnection only lasts a moment. I have checked for logs on the client and Exchange server and can not see any reason for the disconnect, On the Client I get EventId 26 telling me Outlook has disconnected and reconnected but no reason why. Can anyone give me some suggestions of things to try and track down where the problem could be? --Update-- I have found the following log file C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\Logging\RPC Client Access which suggests that it is a problem with RPC sessions.   • Word 2007 won't run, tries to reinstall, fails with error 1402.

    Okay, this problem has been plaguing this computer for a while now. We tried googling, and none of the answers found helped to solve the problem. So, I am now posting the answer here for posterity. Office 2007 Home/Student edition was installed on the computer, running Vista (32-bit). One day, Word just up and stopped working. All the other programs continued to operate as expected. But every time you would click the icon for Word, it would pop up an install dialog, with a message reading "Preparing to install...". After a few minutes of the little progress bar going and going, it errors out, and gives error 1402, something to the effect of unable to access registry key HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Classes\.wll\.... Searching around, every answer i found had to do with reassigning the permissions on this key, giving full rights to SYSTEM or to Everyone, and propagating the changes down to all sub-keys. When ever this was attempted though, it would tell us that we were unable to access the key due to permissions, even though we had run regedit as Administrator and are logged on with an administrative account. We also tried uninstalling Office and reinstalling it, as well as doing a repair install. Both these attempts also threw the same 1402 error. Also of note was that the executable for Word (winword.exe) was MIA and no longer to be found in the Office install directory.

  • How could I embed formatted XML source in WORD documents?

    I'm writing a documentation with WORD that contains XML source code (whole files) as examples. The way I'm embedding the currently XML is quite cumbersome and doesn't seem to me as really maintainable: I'm finishing the editing of the document in WORD and create a PDF from it using Acrobat next, I open my XML files (2x input files, 2x generated output files) with IE and print them with the PDF printer supplied by Acrobat now, I open up Acrobat Pro and attach the four XML-PDF files to my original document The problem with that work flow for me is that it involves too much manual labor in order to get the documentation done. What I've tried up to now is not really satisfying for me: converting each XML to PDF and appending them like described above opening the XML files with SCiTE, copy as RTF and paste into Word playing around with the LaTeX packages minted, pygments and listings (I could write the docs with LaTeX too) but found some unsolvable problems in each of these packages I'm searching for a way that produces my documentation more automatic. For example embedding the XML files including formatting of IE (which I find quite readable). The files should be included by reference so that I don't have to paste the XML sources manually every time the XML changes.

    Do you need an easy way to view word definitions while browsing with Internet Explorer? The Define with Bing Accelerator will display definitions in the same (or a new) tab and save you time while browsing. Using Define with Bing The installation consists of two steps. First, click on Add to Internet Explorer to start the process. Next you will be asked to confirm the installation. Once you have clicked Add your new accelerator is ready to use (no browser restart required). Whenever you encounter a word that needs defining highlight it, click on the small blue square, go to All Accelerators, and then Define with Bing. There are two ways to access the definition: Hover your mouse over the Define with Bing text to open a small popup window Click on Define with Bing to open a definition search in a new tab Being able to access a definition or explanation in the same tab will definitely save you time while browsing. In the example shown here you can get an idea of what SCORM means but clicking on the links inside the popup window is not recommended (webpage opens in popup and is not resizable). In the situation shown above it is better to click on Define with Bing and see more information in a new tab.   • Unable to commit file through svn, server sent truncated HTTP response body

    I have my own VPS, on which I want to run a simple SVN + chiliproject setup. I have re-installed SVN, CHILI and the OS several times, and it always works for a couple of hours/days and then it just stops working. Well, everything works, except I can't upload any files. Committing directories seems to work just fine, but when I try to commit a file it breaks. The odd thing is that files won't get added, but directories are fine. I also have enough storage left on my machine. What I should note, perhaps, is that I use Ubuntu 12.04.3 with ruby 1.9.3, mysql 14.14 and I have it set up that Chiliproject handles the authentication and authorization for the project. It works, because I can commit directories and read it all correctly, though I can't upload files. Help would really be appreciated, as I don't know what on earth is going on with this 'truncated http response body'. I tried to read them with wireshark, but it basically gave me the same information. With regards, Ps. I have no clue what the delay between put and delete is, as it's a file of a mere 500 bytes, so it's uploaded in approximately a second. Pps. I copied this question from StackOverflow to this site, as I didn't know the existence of this site and another user suggested that I'd get more answers here, as it's basically a server fault.

  • php-fpm or nginx: bad gateway

    I'm getting a bad gateway error all the sudden for a site. I didn't change the configuration for the site, I just added a new server config where I put them under /etc/nginx/servers and it stopped working.   • Localhost has just stopped working (using xampp)

    I installed Xampp to use for local development of a Drupal site. Its been working fine out of the box until now. The main Xampp localhost welcome menu loads, however my subdirectory (localhost/drupal) doesn't. It just spins in the browser for ages and nothing happens. Just a blank screen. I've tried the edit people suggest in the hosts file but that hasn't work and I'm getting no errors so not sure what to do. Anyone have any ideas what might be wrong?   • How do you automatically remove the preview window after autocompletion in Vim?

    I'm using omnifunc=pythoncomplete. When autocompleting a word (e.g., os.), I get the list of eligible class members and functions, as expected, as well as a scratch buffer preview window with documentation about the selected member or function. This is great, but after selecting the function I want, the preview window remains. I can get rid of it with ":pc", but I'd like it just to automatically disappear after I've selected my function, a la Eclipse. I've played around with "completeopt" but to no avail.

I would assume that I can somehow build upon the Windows Explorer's ability to preview documents... but I do not know how. What would you do?

    Im just sitting on the train to work and had a funny experience with word 2010 that I thought id share. Im writing a document and all of a sudden like usually happens the train gets a little bit bumpy.  Word decides it doesnt like this (maybe it prefers to fly?).  Anyway to show its dissatisfaction with the journey it starts adding new rows to my table in the document all by itself. 5 pages of rows later I still cant workout how to stop itso have to kill word.   • Merging many documents into one in Word 2007: How to make each one start on a new page?

    I have 31 documents I need to merge into one, using Word 2007 on Windows 7. I read that you can go to Insert - Object - Text from file and select the documents you need. I did that and it worked fine. The thing is, each document is right against the last one. Is there any way to make it so each document starts on a new page, other than manually inserting page breaks?
