• Is there a media player that works on HTTPS sites?

  I'm currently using Yahoo! Media Player for a site that needs to play MP3 files that are stored on our server. In total, there's quite a bit more than the free limits at Soundcloud, but each file is only a few minutes long. YMP is pretty good, but causes security warnings on HTTPS pages, because it can only be served via HTTP. Is there an equivalent free player I can embed for the HTTPS pages? EDIT: Just to clarify, I'm initially looking for something that will scan the page and turn media links playable.

• Strategies for porting application from Win32 API to GTK+

  I have a legacy application written in C, using the raw Win32 API. The general level of abstraction is low and raw dependency on <windows.h> is common. I would like to port this application to GTK+. There are any kind of guidelines or best practices on how to do this? I've previously ported a MFC application to Qt, but the application was very abstracted - it draw it's own set of widgets, for example - and initial porting was very straightforward. I've been thinking at first using Wine to build a native Linux executable and then trying to slowly refactor it into a GTK+ app. Does some one have best practices or previous experiences to share about this?

• Coding events. What they actually are about, and are they worth it?

  I'm a relatively new programmer, but am very much interested in it. I enrolled to this coding event (Yahoo! Hack India, to be precise), and got invited after the pre-coding contest. The event is like a contest where developers create an application in 24 hours, In group or individually. I've never been to such an event before, and certainly don't know anyone who did. So, here are my questions. First of all, is it worth it? What if we don't get any ideas in the first place to start with? I'm not actually a developer, I'm an electrical engineering student who just completed his 2nd semester. So will be able to match up to the level of other developers who will be there?   I have a website that I haven't had much time to take care of. I updated it 4 times since last October, the contents are all original and informative. I can see those cache from Way back Machine and the site was indexed in Yahoo, but not in google. Did I get my index on Google deleted because I did not update it often? Normally Google crawl often and index fast, I just got really worried if I did something wrong. Is it possible that I set something wrong in the hosting or something? Please help me

  Many years ago we purchased a domain from Yahoo. Now our website is hosted on Amazon EC2. The output of an SPF checking tool (http://www.kitterman.com/getspf2.py) says SPF records are primarily published in DNS as TXT records. The TXT records found for your domain are: i=182&m=bizmail-mx2-p9 SPF records should also be published in DNS as type SPF records. No type SPF records found. Checking to see if there is a valid SPF record. No valid SPF record found of either type TXT or type SPF. Where do I get access to these values? Can somebody speculate, where can I find an interface, or a configuration file to fill in the missing fields?

• Adding a list of "recent articles" affects SEO

  We have a site which has a sidebar with sections (or "widgets" if you like) showing stuff like "Recent Articles", "Other Articles by this User", "Similar Articles" etc. The issue is, Google seems to take these links very seriously. In fact, if I have only a single article which is closely related to a certain phrase (and several other pages link to it in their sidebars), when I do a Google search, it lists all those other pages highlighting that one link to the page that should actually be the most relevant one. And these pages don't even mention the phrase anywhere else. It there a common approach with adding these sidebar links? For example, I might add them through ajax after the page is loaded, but then crawlers will have harder time finding them?

  I have built my entire site using AJAX (indeed it's GWT). I have also implemented AJAX crawling proposed by Google. However, after the implementation, I found that neither Yahoo , Bing, nor Baidu implemented that scheme! I'm wondering if there is a way to identify the web client is a search robot. If they are, they will be shown the HTML snapshot I created. It will be best if I can identify them in APACHE level, then I can just do a mod_rewrite. But it's still ok if I can do that in PHP or GWT.

  In the past, I've developed more on the server side, so no big GUI/graphic programming topics have crossed my way so far. I'm switching a little bit to the mobile plattforms (iOS, android) and would like to gather more info on the visual/graphic side. Using the SDK controls/widgets isn't that challenging and I would love to get deeper into the view/presentation layer. Animations, drawing itself, probably OpenGL. Any books that would take me a little deeper in understanding how drawing actually works would be helpful.

• Google search preview shows content not on the website

  My website google search entry is messed up. In the preview in google search results, I get things like cracks, serials, random ip addresses. I scanned all files and my computer for viruses and malware and could not find anything. I also tried to download and reupload all content from a friend's computer and still that content persists. I also scanned the source code of all files, but the content does not appear in any file. Google also does not detect any malware on the website, as seen in their webmaster tools. I have searched using the same keywords in other search engines such as bing and yahoo and the search results there are fine. I am quite clueless as to what the causes would be for this and what would be a possible remedy.

The new site have to follow the structure of the old site that requires the presence of a vertical main menu in the left column that contains the link to all the statics pages in the site. This is the old site structure: http://www.saranistri.com/ Now I have installed a new WordPress test site (this is only a test site): http://onofri.org/example/ As you can see in the left columns I have put two main menu vetical widgets that implements a possible choise for the maun menù (the top menù upon the header must be eliminated in the final implementation) I want to know some opinions about: 1) Which of the two version is better? Do you have some additional ideas about the CSS style of this vertical menu? 2) What could I do to give a more professional look to this site?   Let's say I have a site that sells widgets, and the URL structure is like so: /[type-of-widget]/[sub-type]/[widget-name]/ So, a URL for a widget might be: /screwdrivers/philips-screwdrivers/acme-big-screwdriver/ We show reviews on the widget page, and use the appropriate microformat data so Google knows it's a review, etc. Now, what if I want to show random reviews in the "sub-type" and "type-of-widget" landing pages? Will Google ding me for duplicate content, or is it smart enough to know (based on microformat data/etc.) that this is not duplicate content?

  Does anyone know where I can download a driver for the VAKOSS TK-487-UK illuminated keyboard to run on Ubuntu? Or at least how to control the USB port so that it stops flickering on and off. The USB port works fine but the Keyboard is not recognized by Ubuntu... Already read the post on youtube and script but did not work either...tried changing USB ports, rebooting, etc. This has been going on for a week. • quickest way to research a set of pages backlinks

  I have a list of 300+ pages (they were chosen based on which pages rank for a keyword I'm interested in) and I want to compile a list all the (known) inbound links to those pages. What's the fastest way to do this? It seems like the only tools out there-- Yahoo Site Explorer, SEOMoz, Majestic, require you to either a) manually export each set of links by hand, or b) get data at the domain level (e.g. Majestic's clique hunter). Does anyone know of any efficient way to do this? I ask because I'm about to write a bunch of code and I don't want to waste my time if there's another tool that will work. I know SEOMoz and Majestic have API's but I'm wondering if there's a more user-friendly option.
