    I have multiple tables post id Name 1 post-name1 2 post-name2 user id username 1 user1 2 user2 post_user post_id user_id 1 1 2 1 post_comments post_id comment_id 1 1 1 2 1 3 I am using a query like this: SELECT post.id, post.title, user.id AS uid, username FROM `post` LEFT JOIN post_user ON post.id = post_user.post_id LEFT JOIN user ON user.id = post_user.user_id ORDER BY post_date DESC It works as intended. However I would like the get the number of comments for each post too. So how can i modify the this query so I can get the count of comments. Any ideas?

  • Excel Spreadsheet - Best way to perform an Oracle Query on a cell

    Hi there, I have an Excel Spreadsheeet. There is a cell containing a concatenated name and surname (don't ask why), for example: Cell A2 BLOGGSJOE On this cell, I would like to run the following SQL and output it to cell A3, A4 and A5 SELECT i.id, i.forename, i.surname FROM individual i WHERE UPPER(REPLACE('" & A2 & "', ' ', '')) = UPPER(REPLACE(i.surname|| i.forename, ' ', '')) AND NVL(i.ind_efface, 'N') = 'N' Any idea how I could perform an oracle query on each cell and return the result? I have enabled an oracle datasource connection in Excel, just not sure what to do now. Is this a stupid approach, and can you recommend a better more proficient way? Thanks muchly! I lack the necessary experience in this type of thing! :-) EDIT: I am aware that I could just write a simple ruby/php/python/whatever script to loop through the excel spreadsheet (or csv file), and then perform the query etc. but i thought there might be a quick way in excel itself.

    I am getting a field clash in my models: class Visit(models.Model): user = models.ForeignKey(User) visitor = models.ForeignKey(User) Error: One or more models did not validate: profiles.visit: Accessor for field 'user' clashes with related field 'User.visit_set'. Add a related_name argument to the definition for 'user'. profiles.visit: Accessor for field 'visitor' clashes with related field 'User.visit_set'. Add a related_name argument to the definition for 'visitor'. what would be a sensible 'related_field' to use on visitor field? This model basically represents the visits that take place to a particular user's profile. Also should I replace any of the ForeignKey's with a ManyToManyField? The logic is a bit confusing. Edit: This seems to fix it, but I am unsure if its what I want. :) class Visit(models.Model): user = models.ForeignKey(User) visitor = models.ForeignKey(User, related_name='visitors')

  • Advice on simple efficient way to store web form data when no db/auth required

    Hi, I have a situation where I need to provide an efficient way to process and store comments submitted via a web form. I would normally use PHP and either MySQL or XML to store the data, but this is slightly different in that this web form will only be temporarily available in a closed LAN environment, and all i need to do is process the form data and store it a format which can be accessed by another application on the LAN (Adobe Director). Each request made by the Director app should pop the stack of data. I'm wondering how best to store the data for this type of situation as it's not something I would normally do. I'm thinking possibly storing the data in an XML file, but any advice would be great!

  • Select distinct users with referrals

    I have a bunch of Users. Since Django doesn't really let me extend the default User model, they each have Profiles. The Profiles have a referred_by field (a FK to User). I'm trying to get a list of Users with = 1 referral. Here's what I've got so far Profile.objects.filter(referred_by__isnull=False).values_list('referred_by', flat=True) Which gives me a list of IDs of the users who have referrals... but I need it to be distinct, and I want the User object, not their ID. Or better yet, it would be nice if it could return the number of referrals a user has. Any ideas?

I have managed to get all the theming into files (contemplate etc), but ideally my views settings, menu settings would be in line also...   • Syntax for "RETURNING" clause in Mysql PDO

    I'm trying to add a record, and at the same time return the id of that record added. I read it's possible to do it with a RETURNING clause. $stmt->prepare("INSERT INTO tablename (field1, field2) VALUES (:value1, :value2) RETURNING id"); but the insertion fails when I add RETURNING. There is an auto-incremented field called id in the table being added to. Can someone see anything wrong with my syntax? or maybe PDO does not support RETURNING?

    I'm about to begin a Ruby on Rails project and I'd love to hear how others go through the process of starting an application design. I have quite a bit of experience with RoR, but don't have that many starting from scratch with only a vision experiences and would appreciate the wisdom of others who've been there. I'm looking for an order of events, reasons for the order, and maybe why each part is important. I can think of a few starting points, but I'm not sure where it's best to begin Model design and relationships (entities, how they relate, and their attributes) Think of user use-cases (or story-boards) and implement the minimum to get these done Create Model unit-tests then create the necessary migrations and AR models to get the tests to pass Hack out the most basic version of the simplest part of your application and go from there Start with a template for a rails app (like http://github.com/thoughtbot/suspenders) Do the boring gruntwork first (User auth, session management, ...) ...

    MySQL has something like this: INSERT INTO visits (ip, hits) VALUES ('127.0.0.1', 1) ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE hits = hits + 1; As far as I'm know this feature doesn't exist in SQLite, what I want to know is if there is any way to archive the same effect without having to execute two queries. Also, if this is not possible, what do you prefer: SELECT + (INSERT or UPDATE) or UPDATE (+ INSERT if UPDATE fails)

    I'm currently working on a ticketing system which allows our users to submit tickets based on their own needs. i.e. if Department "A" is submitting a ticket they can have certain types of problem categories (such as "Supplies" or "Printer") along with details pertaining to the chosen category. I have laid out a partial db design and i was looking for some feedback on it.     Is there a way to actually get the column name that was updated in order to use it in a trigger? Basically I'm trying to have an audit trail whenever a user inserts or updates a table (in this case it has to do with a Contact table) CREATE TRIGGER `after_update_contact` AFTER UPDATE ON `contact` FOR EACH ROW BEGIN INSERT INTO user_audit (id_user, even_date, table_name, record_id, field_name, old_value, new_value) VALUES (NEW.updatedby, NEW.lastUpdate, 'contact', NEW.id_contact, [...]) END How can I get the name of the column that's been updated and from that get the OLD and NEW values of that column. If multiple columns have been updated in a row or even multiple rows would it be possible to have an audit for each update?

I've been contemplating writing a simple "event log" that takes a paramater list and stores event messages in a log file, trouble is, I forsee this file growing to be rather large (assume 1M entries or more) the question is, how can I implement this system without pulling teeth, I know that SQL would be a possible way to go. XML would be ideal but not really practical for scaleability if i'm not going nuts.   • How can I access the value of a checkbox without a postback?

    I have a radgrid controlling access to an application for users. There are two columns, a 'name' column and a checkbox 'access' column representing their current access permission. the checkboxes are populated from a database. I would like the to change the checkboxes to grant or deny access to the users I specify. Since there are alot of users I would like to make multiple changes and use a submit button to write the changes to the database. I do not want to postback with each checkbox change and wait for the page to "blink". My problem is that with the checkbox postback disabled, when I click submit, the value of the checkboxes are not registering the changes I make. I need a way to access the current client-side state of the checkbox or some workaround to accomplish this. Thanks in advance!
