I am running currently about 9 servers at home but they take up a lot of space and the cabling is driving me mad. Is there any alternative to blades for a home based cluster?
I'm trying to push wifi settings to client computers through Active Directory, something that will add a defaul SSID to connect to and a WPA password. The only thing I've heard of is a script by Aruba labs called wificfg_xp.exe on a couple of forums (Here and here), but the link to the download page is always broken. Does any one know of an alternative way to download this file, or another way to push these settings with AD?
I've been researching a problem which was diagnosed as someone changing the compatability mode for the SQL Server database from 80 to 90 on SQL Server 2005 for a database which had it's compatibility mode set to 80 due to legacy stored procedure code not having been upgraded.
I found that when changing the compatibility mode this is not logged in the SQL Server logs.
Has anyone seen this issue and is this a bug or is there an alternative method to track these changes?
How do I make a post request using the curl plugin? I see no option where I can specify the post data, or the type of request.
Is it even possible with the plugin, or is there an alternative plugin I can use?
Currently we use an iSCSI SAN as storage for several VMware ESXi servers. I am investigating the use of an NFS target on a Linux server for additional virtual machines. I am also open to the idea of using an alternative operating system (like OpenSolaris) if it will provide significant advantages.
What Linux-based filesystem favours very large contiguous files (like VMware's disk images)? Alternatively, how have people found ZFS on OpenSolaris for this kind of workload?
I've been given a Juniper Networks J2300 router, but I've never used a juniper device before and no idea where to begin on how to connect to the console of the device.
I have a serial to RJ45 cable but not sure on how to connect to the device.
Do I use specific software or just use something like minicom (linux hyperterminal alternative)?
I've had a look on the juniper website and couldn't find anything :(
Any help would be truly appreciated,
cheers
I want to make sure I am going this correctly.
machine name: win2k8ex1.
certificate:
common name: owa.x.com
subject alternative domains:
autodiscover.x.com
mail.x.com
WIN2K8EX1
WIN2K8EX1.x.LOCAL
when generating the CSR, i want to:
New-ExchangeCertificate -GenerateRequest -SubjectName "c=US, o=x Inc., cn=owa.x.com" -DomainName mail.x.com,WIN2K8EX1,WIN2K8EX!.x.local,autodiscover.x.com -privatekeyexportable $true -Path c:\certificates\mcert.txt
does this look correct?
thanks!
I recently installed Windows 8 from MSDN. I used to install Linux within Windows in my Windows operating systems.
But when I tried to install my Ubuntu 10.10 with Wubi installer the option to install with wubi was disabled.
Help me to install Ubuntu with Wubi installer on Windows 8 if Windows 8 supports it. If it does not, please recommend any other alternative to Wubi. I use Wubi mainly because I can easily remove the Linux operating system.
I once used gnome-mount like this
gnome-mount -o ro -d /dev/sda2 or gnome-mount -o ro -p "Macintosh HD"
But, alas, gnome-mount seems to be no more. RIP.
I can do this
gvfs-mount -d /dev/sda2
(which generates a whole lot of errors but does mount the partition in the /media directory.)
This is a related question: http://superuser.com/questions/131918/gnome-mount-alternative-in-ubuntu-10-04-or-how-to-mount-partition-with-normal-use
But how do you do it by name?
i need to cut audio files into small samples of even length. What i need is basically a batch processor for audio which does it, and names the slices numerically. i'm on os x and found Audio Splitter, the shortest possible sample length with it is 1 second though, too long for my purpose. Anyone know an alternative?
I have a Nexus One phone and when I record video the container seems to be 3GP. When I try to playback using VLC I'm getting no audio, and an error saying that there is nothing I can do because VLC does not support the "samr" codec. Is there really nothing I can do to watch my videos on VLC? If not, whats the alternative? I really like VLC specifically because I never have to download codecs...

My mate told me that there's a tool to manage services in Ubuntu, System Administration Services. But unfortunately, I don't found it in my Ubuntu (9.10). Is it easy to get it? What package do I need to install?
If not, are there any alternative GUI programs to manage services (like mysql, apache and so forth)?
I know I can image search with the major search engines. What I am looking for is an alternative - Preferably one that has some image intelligence instead of just indexing images by their file names, ALT text, or page content.
What else is out there?
How can I limit the time spent on the computer or force a log out from a Windows 7 machine?
I used to use Windows Steady State to limit users (kids) from being on too long but SteadyState does not work with Windows 7 Home Premium and is discontinued.
Is there a way to set this up in Windows 7 where it will kick off a user after a set time? Or perhaps there's an alternative program that can help limit the time one user is at the computer.
I am familiar with using both Versions and Cornerstone on Mac - they are fantastic and incredibly simple to use... but I don't want to always rely on being able to borrow my girlfriend's MacBook so need to find an alternative for my Windows machine.
Can anyone please recommend a good subversion client? I have experimented using Tortoise and RapidSVN and couldn't even get them working :( I'd like something just incredibly simple if possible.
Thank you!
Hi. I am currently running Windows XP along with Ubuntu 9.10. Is there any anti-virus which can scan for windows viruses , from ubuntu ? I had tried ClamAV sometime back. It didn't work very well. Is there any other alternative ? Preferably a free one :)
Are there any good alternative wiki's to MediaWiki out there for a small business? Mostly we are just wanting to use it for documentation. MediaWiki is a fine (and slightly outdated) piece of software, but it doesn't even officially support basic things like controlling who has access to what page/article, which is an important feature for us.
I'm currently running a Microsoft Server 2008 R2 box and want to utilize Volume Shadow Copy but my development machine doesn't have enough hard drive space for 30 days worth of copies, which is what I am aiming for and currently only have 5 days of backups.
I have another Windows XP box and I was wondering if it was possible to remotely store the shadow copy images in my remote XP box.
If it isn't possible with the built in Volume Shadow Copy, is there an opensourcealternative that I can utilize that has the same or similar functionality?
I'm running an Asus MyCinema U3100mini ATSC on Windows 7 64-bit. When I play live TV in Windows Media Center, it's very choppy and uses 500+ MB of RAM, I'm guessing due to the hard drive buffering functionality. Is there any way to disable the live TV pause buffer completely? If not, can anyone recommend alternative software that:
Works with the MyCinema.
Is lightweight and not horribly bloated with features I'll never use like Windows Media Center is.
Set up:
An always on old-ish laptop connected to a NAS which contains TV/Films/Music.
I want to be able to stream on the fly the data on my NAS to various connected devices such as iphone or laptop. I am currently using Orb (orb.com) mycast software but the requirements for the streaming are very high in terms of processing power is there alternative software and dedicated hardware i can add to get maximum benefit from this setup?
Hello,
I recently learned of the joys of square brackets with SMART_HOST to have sendmail ignore MX lookups. I need this functionality, however, I can't seem to make it persistant. Sending mail with -Am works, however, -bm does not. In the -Am case, the correct mail server is used. In the -bm case, an MX lookup is still being performed. Is there a way to disable MX lookups (or some working alternative)?
Thanks
I have a windows domain environment and it contains only Server 2008 Os's. I'm trying to execute a script or a program from 1 server on multiple servers, but I can't configure or install any applications. I was trying to user powershell v2.0 (invoke-command) but its not configured and I cant configure it. I'm looking for an alternative maybe WMI. Psexec and rcmd are not installed on any servers. Any advise could help a lot.
Do you know how to convert an animated GIF (only two pics in loop) to FLV or AVI?
I didn't search for a Microsoft alternative that maybe could run with WINE, because I really prefer a native one; also a java version will be fine.
Hi there
i just find that is useful to listen audio books, but when it is about tacking notices, the play/pause, adding bookmarks is impossible with the regular players(windows media player, vlc, bsplayer, winamp). Do you know a better alternative to that?
