  • Poll: How long will you wait before using Solaris 11 on production systems?

    When Sun released Solaris 10, it was my first migration phase to a new Solaris major release while being part of Sun. At that time i heard a lot of comments between "Oh, we will install it on new systems on day 1" to "oh ... not that fast ... we will wait ... we are not that fast ... we will do it in a year". I would like to get some additional insight and so i set up the poll plugin for s9y to get the answer to the question "How long will you wait before using Solaris 11 on production system?".   • X11 forwarding from one server to other

    I have a setup where I need to forward X11 from my local machine (laptop) to a Virtual machine. The server hosting this VM cannot be reached directly from my laptop. I need to first login to a gateway and from this gateway, I can access the VM. How can I forward X11 from my laptop to this VM? I have tried following but these do not work: [laptop # ] ssh -X [gateway] [gateway # ] ssh -X [VM] [laptop # ] ssh -tX [gateway] ssh -X [VM] I could forward X11 only till the gateway. (DISPLAY variable gets set on gateway)

  • How do I fix my VM's network connection if it seems to be running ok from the host?

    I have a virtual machine (made with vmware) with a linux ubuntu os installed on it (i have a series of them), with NAT network connection - i am running vmware on Windows XP (my host system); the virtual machine can't connect to the internet. All the vmware services seem to be working fine from windows point of view, but inside the machine i can't connect to the internet. What is strange is that the virtual machine was able to use the internet some time ago, but all of a sudden, i just can't use my internet on the virtual machine - i have made no changes to the settings, nor in windows, nor in the virtual machine - so i don't understand.

  • Hyper-V share a folder between host and instance

    I have a hyper-v server and several VM's (Virtual Machines). All the VM's are connected to an external network. I have tried to share a folder on the host and connect via the VM, I can do this but I'm prompted for a user name and password (as you would expect). I do not want to enable the "Everyone" group permissions as the physical host server is on a network of other servers. I have created a new virtual internal network in Hyper-V and given it's adapter a static ip of 33.0.0.100. I have added the virtual adapter to one of the VM's and set to IP to 33.0.0.2 (as advised here). Again this seems to work but I'm still prompted for a user name and password. Am I on the right lines here? I just want to share a directory from the host to the vm's without exposing the share to other servers on the network.

    I'm using Matlab to create a small chess game for one of my courses this semester. The thing I'm having trouble with is having the user be able to select one of the chess pieces. To simplify things, I'm making it so that the user selects a piece by clicking on the square that the chess piece resides on rather than clicking the piece itself (which I assume would be much more difficult). I know how to get the x and y coordinates of the view-port, but how do I transform these coordinates into 3-space coordinates? I know that there are multiple x,y,z coordinates associated with each view-port coordinate, but I'm only interested in the x,y,z coordinate where z = 0 (since the board itself is in the x,y plane that intersects the z axis where z = 0). I'd like to change things up and have the enemies move towards the player but in a wave like motion.
