I came up with the following workaround, and it works fine, but it seems like this issue would be common enough to have a more built-in solution.   • jQuery i++ and i-- problems ... what on earth???

    Could someone please tell me what I am doing wrong? I'm not a newbie at programming but I feel like it tonight! Every time I increment the incrementing variable it throws a fit! When add one to it, it behaves fine, but if I try to add one more to it it wants to add 2 more. And then if I try to de-increment it wants to subtract from the original number that it was assigned to. I've tried: i++; i = i+1; i = i++; Nothing seems to work. It's got to be a stupid mistake.     I have a simple array with x number of items. I am displaying them individually via a link click... I want to update a number that say 1 of 10. when the next one is displayed i want it to display 2 of 10 etc... I have looked all around and my brain is fried right now...     Hello! In my Ubuntu 10.10, following this tutorial, I don't face step 2. I mean, while installing the packets, I don't face anything related to configuration. Then, when I run a command, such a mysql -u root -p , I get this error: ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2) As I see in other treads, ps aux | grep mysqld gives me just this output: 1000 4508 0.0 0.0 5172 760 pts/0 S+ 19:53 0:00 grep --color=auto mysqld What is happening??     I have a "UserDetail" table in my "JobPost.mdf". I have a "Gridview1" showing the column from "UserDetail" table,which has a primary key "UserName". This "UserName" is originally saved using Membership class function. Now I add a "Delete" linkbutton to the GridView1. This "Delete" is not autogenerate button,I dragged inside the column itemtemplate from ToolBox. The GridView1's columns now become "Delete_LinkButton"+"UserName"(within the UserDetail table)+"City"(within the UserDetail table)+"IsAdmin"(within the UserDetail table) What I need is that by clicking this "delete_linkButton",it will ONLY delete the entire User Entity on the same row (link by the corresponding "UserName") from the "UserDetail" table,as well as delete all information from the AspNetDB.mdf (User,Membership,UserInRole,etc). I would like to fireup a user confirm,but not mandatory. At least I am trying to make it functional in the correct way. for example: Command UserName City IsAdmin delete ken Los Angles TRUE delete jim Toronto FALSE When I click "delete" on the first row, I need all the record about "ken" inside the "UserDetail" table to be removed. Meanwhile, all the record about "ken" in the AspNetDB.mdf will be gone, including UserinRole table. I am new to asp.net, so I don't know how to pass the commandargument of the "Delete_LinkButton" to the code-behind file LinkButton1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e), because I need one extra parameter "UserName". I add items to the dictionary with a stock standard items.Add(Guid.NewGuid, new ElementViewModel() { /*setters go here*/ });, At a later stage I remove some or all of these items. A simplistic view of my ElementViewModel is this: class ElementViewModel { Guid Id { get; set; } string Name { get; set; } int SequenceNo { get; set; } } It may be significant to mention that the SequenceNos are compacted within the collection after adding, in case other operations like moving and copying took place. {1, 5, 6} - {1, 2, 3} A simplistic view of my remove operation is: public void RemoveElementViewModel(IEnumerable<ElementViewModel> elementsToDelete) { foreach (var elementViewModel in elementsToDelete) items.Remove(elementViewModel.Id); CompactSequenceNumbers(); } I will illustrate the problem with an example: I add 3 items to the dictionary: var newGuid = Guid.NewGuid(); items.Add(newGuid, new MineLayoutElementViewModel { Id = newGuid, SequenceNo = 1, Name = "Element 1" }); newGuid = Guid.NewGuid(); items.Add(newGuid, new MineLayoutElementViewModel { Id = newGuid, SequenceNo = 2, Name = "Element 2" }); newGuid = Guid.NewGuid(); items.Add(newGuid, new MineLayoutElementViewModel { Id = newGuid, SequenceNo = 3, Name = "Element 3" }); I remove 2 items RemoveElementViewModel(new List<ElementViewModel> { item2, item3 }); //imagine I had them cached somewhere. Why is it not as expected and what can I do about it?

    I'm looking for a way to gather all of the text in a jQuery wrapped set, but I need to create spaces between sibling nodes that have no text nodes between them. For example, consider this HTML: <div> <ul> <li>List item #1.</li><li>List item #2.</li><li>List item #3.</li> </ul> </div> If I simply use jQuery's text() method to gather the text content of the <div>, like such: var $div = $('div'), text = $div.text().trim(); alert(text); that produces the following text: List item #1.List item #2.List item #3. because there is no whitespace between each <li> element. What I'm actually looking for is this (note the single space between each sentence): List item #1. List item #3. List item #3. This suggest to me that I need to traverse the DOM nodes in the wrapped set, appending the text for each to a string, followed by a space. I tried the following code: var $div = $('div'), text = ''; $div.find('*').each(function() { text += $(this).text().trim() + ' '; }); alert(text); but this produced the following text: This is list item #1.This is list item #2.This is list item #3. This is list item #1. This is list item #2. This is list item #3. I assume this is because I'm iterating through every descendant of <div> and appending the text, so I'm getting the text nodes within both <ul> and each of its <li> children, leading to duplicated text. I think I could probably find/write a plain JavaScript function to recursively walk the DOM of the wrapped set, gathering and appending text nodes - but is there a simpler way to do this using jQuery? Cross-browser consistency is very important. Thanks for any help!
