  • Nginx & Passenger - failed (11: Resource temporarily unavailable) while connecting to upstream

    I have an Nginx and Passenger setup that is proving problematic. At relatively low loads the server seems to get backed up and start churning results like this into the error.log: connect() to unix:/passenger_helper_server failed (11: Resource temporarily unavailable) while connecting to upstream My passenger setup is: passenger_min_instances 2; passenger_pool_idle_time 1200; passenger_max_pool_size 20; I have done some digging, and it looks like the CPU gets pegged. Memory usage seems fine passenger_memory_stats shows at most about 700MB being used, but CPU approaches 100%. is this enough to cause this type of error? Should i bring the pool size down? Are there other configuration settings I should be looking at? Any help appreciated Other pertinent information: Amazon EC2 Small Instance Ubuntu 10.10 Nginx (latest stable) Passenger (latest stable) Rails 3.0.4

    So I have some custom VPS which route emails via MX record in DNS. And I need to setup gmail interface via Google Apps - this step and previous are clear. But how can I insert some middle layer, to check emails messages for special words/etc., so something like spam assasin proxy, but custom product. The question is: How could i setup proxy mail from my server = to proxy server(or application) = to gmail servers? Thank you, for any help!

  • Web browser being selective about the sites that it will visit.

    I've been trying to help my father-in-law with this problem but haven't been able to get anywhere. Since the weekend the web browsers on his computer (Chrome and Internet Explorer on Windows XP) will only let him get to certain sites - for example, he is able to conduct his online banking but he cannot visit www.bbc.co.uk, www.amazon.co.uk or www.ancestry.com. There is another computer in the house that goes via the same router and this can connect to both, which suggests it is his machine. I tried running a tracert to www.bbc.co.uk and managed to get through, but the web browser hangs with a message that it is waiting for a response. I tried using the WinSockFix tool in case it was anything to do with a recent registry change but that didn't work either. He can't think of anything that he recently did on his machine to cause the problem. Can anyone help?

    If I do a search for Windows 8 Professional x64 in my country, the only version I can find is having the code fqc-05955 and is labeled OEM. If I perform same search on amazon.com, the only version I can find is having the code fqc-05956 and is labeled System Builder. There's not much information about licensing of Windows 8 that I could find. According to this article when using System Builder it can be transferred from one computer to another. What are the differences in licensing between those 2? Is fqc-05955 transferable from one hardware to another like System Builder is? Can I install fqc-05955 on a computer I already own that has no prior windows licensing? I am asking this, since many stores that sell fqc-05955 say it can only be bough with a computer.   • How to change MySQL data directory?

    I want to place my databases in another directory, so I can store them in an ESB (elastic block storage, just a fancy name for a virtualized harddisk) together with my web-apps and other persistent data. I have tried to walk through a tutorial at http://crashmag.net/change-the-default-mysql-data-directory-with-selinux-enabled. Everything seems fine until I type this command: # semanage fcontext -a -t mysqld_db_t "/srv/mysql(/.*)?" Then the command fails and tells me that mysqld_db_t is an invalid SELinux context even if the default MySQL data directory is labelled with this context. I am running Fedora 15 on Virtualbox (behaves like an ordinary x86-compatible box) and Amazon EC2 (based on Xen) so the tutorial should be compatible. It is also worth to mention that turning off SELinux globally or just for the MySQL process is not an option, because such a solution will decrease the security of the system if a hacker gains access to the system via the MySQL server. I have never seen this problem before I changed to the Redhat/Fedora architecture, so it could be a distribution specific issue. Any help is highly appreciated

    I'm trying to build a REST API through Nginx and everything works fine except when I the requests are PUT or DELETE. In these cases, Nginx returns 444 (no response). I did some research and all I could find was something about Nginx being configured with the "--with-http_dav_module" option. I've checked that with nginx -V and and it seems that it was configured with this. So, any idea what else could it be?

    I am looking into purchasing a dual-monitor setup, and need to purchase two monitors with VESA MIS-D mounts. My only problem is that that information doesn't seem to be readily available on most shopping websites. Neither Amazon nor Newegg seem to have the information searchable or filterable. I could shop for monitors, then Google around to see if they support VESA MIS-D, but is there a better way? Is there a resource (not necessarily a store - once I find a monitor I can shop elsewhere) where I can browse a variety of monitor specs and reviews while only looking at monitors with a certain VESA mount?

  • What is a good and safe way of sharing certificates?

    I have a few certificates, that are used as authentication, to ssh into my servers on the Amazon cloud. I rotate those certificates weekly, manually. My question is, I need to share the certificates with some colleagues, a few on the LAN, and a few in another part of the country. What is the best practice to share the certificate? My initial thoughts were Dropbox and email. We dont host dedicated email servers with encryption and all, and dont have a VPN. Thanks.

  • Does anyone know a way to interact with HP OV(NNM) with python, perl or bash?

    Do anyone know if there is out there any API/library to access NNM database from perl or python? We have a NNM 7.53 which give us access to its data with its java based applet through http. And of course through the 'ovw' GUI interface. I've tried to use Mechanize and selenium2(webdriver) to automatize some checks.   • "Couldn't resolve host" for any external content

    On our site we run a few different scripts for various sites (uploading to amazon s3, data from chartbeat, script to count twitter followers) and all of them just stop working from time to time. They work most days, but then some days (like today) they all just stop working. This simple script to get follower count into PHP $url = "http://twitter.com/users/show/username"; $response = file_get_contents ( $url ); $t_profile = new SimpleXMLElement ( $response ); $count = $t_profile->followers_count; Just sits there for a couple minutes, then finally spits out an error that says "Couldn't resolve host". Any script we use for an external site gives us this error. I'm not really sure where to check what's blocking these connections all of a sudden, and why it seems to work most times, then doesn't for a day or so, then works again. Any tips? They have an interesting story in which they provide primary SAN/iSCSI storage to VMWare and Exchange and at the same time do snaphots to the Cloud. This provides a possible DR option if you have a second system at an alternate location. I was impressed, but I've never heard of them so I'm looking for input and advise on the product.   • IE8 Windows 7 (64bit) security certificate problem

    Hi, We have just received some new computers for use in the office (Dell Vostro). They seem to work fine in the main. When we use IE8 to go to some web pages such as yahoo mail it tells us: “There is a problem with this websites security certificate” If we have a look at the details it says: “This certificate cannot be verified up to a trusted certification authority” This however works correctly in Firefox. I don't understand why I should get such an error message, should this not just work? I don't think its anything to do with the certificate itself as this is happening on www.yahoo.co.uk and other commercial (amazon I think?) sites. I think there is something off with the PCs setup.
