  • Is it allowed to load Swing classes in non-EDT thread?

    After the introduction of Java Memory Model, the Swing guidelines were changed to state that any Swing components need to be instantiated on the EDT in order to avoid non-published instance state. What I could not find anywhere is whether the classloading is also mandated to be on the EDT or can we pre-load key Swing classes in a background thread? Is there any official statement from Sun/Oracle on this? Are there any classes that are known to hold non-threadsafe static state, hence need to be loaded on EDT?

  • Why is postgresql update query so slow sometimes, even with index

    i have a simple update query (foo column type is BOOLEAN (default false)): update tablename set foo = true where id = 234; which "id" is set to (primary) key, and if i run "explain analyze" i got: Index Cond: (id = 234) Total runtime: 0.358 ms but still, i have plenty of unexplained queries at slow log (pgfouine), which took more than 200s (?!): Times executed: 99, Av. duration (s): 70 can anyone please explain, whats the reason for that? (1.5 mio rows in table, postgresql 8.4)

This makes sense because i can reach every commit only through a branch or a tag ( generally speaking through a reference). That's how i traverse the tree. What other reasons had the developers of Git to make "the children know their parents but not the other way around"?/ What are the key benefits of this?

  • Chaining animations and memory management

    Hey Everyone, Got a question. I have a subclassed UIView that is acting as my background where I am scrolling the ground. The code is working really nice and according to the Instrumentation, I am not leaking nor is my created and still living Object allocation growing. I have discovered else where in my application that adding an animation to a UIImageView that is owned by my subclassed UIView seems to bump up my retain count and removing all animations when I am done drops it back down. My question is this, when you add an animation to a layer with a key, I am assuming that if there is already a used animation in that entry position in the backing dictionary that it is released and goes into the autorelease pool? I am assuming everytime I add an animation the one that exists in that key position is released. Just wondering I am correct. Also, I am relatively new to Core Animation.   • Copying a field to another table in Access

  • Deadlock in SQL Server 2005! Two real-time bulk upserts are fighting. WHY?

    Here's the scenario: I've got a table called MarketDataCurrent (MDC) that has live updating stock prices. I've got one process called 'LiveFeed' which reads prices streaming from the wire, queues up inserts, and uses a 'bulk upload to temp table then insert/update to MDC table.' (BulkUpsert) I've got another process which then reads this data, computes other data, and then saves the results back into the same table, using a similar BulkUpsert stored proc. Thirdly, there are a multitude of users running a C# Gui polling the MDC table and reading updates from it. Now, during the day when the data is changing rapidly, things run pretty smoothly, but then, after market hours, we've recently started seeing an increasing number of Deadlock exceptions coming out of the database, nowadays we see 10-20 a day. The imporant thing to note here is that these happen when the values are NOT changing.     Hi, I have an ASP.NET project where I want to keep the membership (SQL Provider) in a separate database and the Roles/Profiles will be per application. Question What is the KEY that relates between the Membership database and the Roles/Profile database? Is it the UserID or UserName? I opened up the tables in separate expolrer and notice the UserID is different in the Membership database from that in the application Roles database.

(After assigning the shortcut) What doesn't work is QuickNav and QuickFileNav. The Standard Shourtcut for QuickFileNav is CTRL+ALT+F, which is conflicted with VS View.F#Interactive. But removing this shortcut or changing the shortcuts for QuickNav and QuickFileNav doesn't bring up the nav-windows. NextReference (TABULATOR) doesn't work Any solutions? Other issues?

  • Why can't I save my model with a generic relation twice in Django?

    I got a model TrackedItem with a generic relation linking to any model it is supposed to track. If I do that: t = TrackedItem(content_object=MyModel) t.save() t.save() I get : IntegrityError: (1062, "Duplicate entry '1' for key 'PRIMARY'") Indeed, the first save has created an entry with "1" as a PK. But the second save should not insert, it should update. How am I suppose to update a model I can't save twice? With an ordinary model I can save as much as I want.

  • Dynamic data-entry value store

    I'm creating a data-entry application where users are allowed to create the entry schema. My first version of this just created a single table per entry schema with each entry spanning a single or multiple columns (for complex types) with the appropriate data type. This allowed for "fast" querying (on small datasets as I didn't index all columns) and simple synchronization where the data-entry was distributed on several databases. I'm not quite happy with this solution though; the only positive thing is the simplicity... I can only store a fixed number of columns. I need to create indexes on all columns. I need to recreate the table on schema changes. Some of my key design criterias are: Very fast querying (Using a simple domain specific query language) Writes doesn't have to be fast Many concurrent users Schemas will change often Schemas might contain many thousand columns The data-entries might be distributed and needs syncronization. Preferable MySQL and SQLite - Databases like DB2 and Oracle is out of the question. Using .Net/Mono I've been thinking of a couple of possible designs, but none of them seems like a good choice. Solution 1: Union like table containing a Type column and one nullable column per type. This avoids joins, but will definitly use a lot of space. Solution 2: Key/value store. All values are stored as string and converted when needed. Also use a lot of space, and of course, I hate having to convert everything to string. Solution 3: Use an xml database or store values as xml. Without any experience I would think this is quite slow (at least for the relational model unless there is some very good xpath support). I also would like to avoid an xml database as other parts of the application fits better as a relational model, and being able to join the data is helpful. I cannot help to think that someone has solved (some of) this already, but I'm unable to find anything. Not quite sure what to search for either... I know market research is doing something like this for their questionnaires, but there are few open source implementations, and the ones I've found doesn't quite fit the bill. PSPP has much of the logic I'm thinking of; primitive column types, many columns, many rows, fast querying and merging. Too bad it doesn't work against a database.. And of course... I don't need 99% of the provided functionality, but a lot of stuff not included. I'm not sure this is the right place to ask such a design related question, but I hope someone here has some tips, know of any existing work, or can point me to a better place to ask such a question. TextBox has KeyDown event handler, the idea behind this is to allow user to press up and down keys to scroll inside ListBox while focus is on TextBox. When user presses "down key" several times, selected element becomes last visible element on screen. If user has reached bottom of visible list element on screen, I want him to see next element after selected element as well.

The notifications have been updated successfully.<p>"; echo "<p><span style='font-size: 12px;'> <a onClick=\"history.go(-1)\" class='form'>Return</a></p> <p></span> "; exit; }; ?> after doing some research i learnt that the only way to insert multiple radio values into the MYSQL table is to use arrays. there was a similar question raised somewhere on this site: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1656260/php-multiple-radio-buttons that recommended using a foreach loop. use a foreach loop <?php foreach ( $_POST as $key => $val ) echo "$key -> $val\n"; ?> $key will be the name of the selected option and $val, well, the value. how would this apply to my situation as i am struggling to find any help on the internet. i understand that i would use this on the processing page to pull out any radio values from the previous page and then loop the INSERT MYSQL code within the process until it was all done. any advice would be appreciated!
