• Entity Framework: Delete Object and its related entities

  Hi, Does anyone know how to delete an object and all of it's related entities. For example i have tables, Products, Category, ProductCategory and productDetails, the productCategory is joining table of both Product and Category. I have red from http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb738580.aspx that Deleting the parent object also deletes all the child objects in the constrained relationship. This result is the same as enabling the CascadeDelete property on the association for the relationship. I am using this code Product productObj = this.ObjectContext.Product.Where(p => p.ProductID.Equals(productID)).First(); if (!productObj.ProductCategory.IsLoaded) productObj.ProductCategory.Load(); if (!productObj.ProductDetails.IsLoaded) productObj.ProductDetails.Load(); //my own methods. base.Delete(productObj); base.SaveAllObjectChanges(); But i am getting error on ObjectContext.SaveChanges(); i.e A relationship is being added or deleted from an AssociationSet 'FK_ProductCategory_Product'. With cardinality constraints, a corresponding 'ProductCategory' must also be added or deleted. Thanks in advance....

• jQuery, jQuery UI, and Dual Licensed Plugins (Dual Licensing)

  OK I have read many posts regarding Dual Licensing using MIT and GPL licenses. But Im curious still, as the wording seems to be inclusive. Many of the Dual Licenses state that the software is licensed using "MIT AND GPL". The "AND" is what confuses me. It seems to me that the word "AND" in the terms, means you will be licensing the product using both licenses. Most of the posts, here on stackoverflow, state that you can license the software using one "OR" the other. JQuery specifically states "OR", whereas JQuery UI specifically States "AND". Another Instance of the "AND" would be JQGrid. Im not a lawyer but, it seems to me that a legal interpretation of this would state that use of the software would mean that your using the software under both licenses. Has anyone who has contacted a lawyer gotten clarification or a definitive answer as to what is true? Can you use Dual licensed software products that state "AND" in the terms of agreement under either license? EDITED: Guys here is specifically what Im talking about on jquery.org/license you see the following stated: You may use any jQuery project under the terms of either the MIT License or the GNU General Public License (GPL) Version 2 but in the header of Jquery's and Jquery UI library you see this: * Dual licensed under the MIT and GPL licenses. * http://docs.jquery.com/License The site says MIT or GPL but the license statement in the software says MIT and GPL.

• Installing into the GAC with WiX 3.0

  I have a DLL that I would like to install into the Global Assembly Cache so that it can be referenced from multiple locations. I have a File declaration with the Assembly attribute set to ".net" but when the installation tries to install the DLL into the GAC, I get the following error (I have tided it up a bit to make it more readable): MSI (s) (58:38) [19:14:31:031]: Product: MyProductName 1.01 -- Error 1935. Can anyone shed some light on why I might be getting this error and how I might hope to fix it?

  Hi, The Three20 is great library. It's making the work with tables very easy. But one gap that I noticed - is deletion of rows, with animation. And I doesn't implement the DataSourceDelegate or TableViewDelegate because I'm using the Three20 as much as possible.   Before I start I should add I am a musician and not a native programmer, this was undertook to make my life easier. Here is the situation, at work I'm given a new csv file each which contains a list of sound files, their length, and the minimum total amount of time they must be played. I create a playlist of exactly 60 minutes, from this excel file. Each sample played the by the minimum number of instances, but spread out from each other; so there will never be a period where for where one sound is played twice in a row or in close proximity to itself. Secondly, if the minimum instances of each song has been used, and there is still time with in the 60 min, it needs to fill the remaining time using sounds till 60 minutes is reached, while adhering to above. The smallest duration possible is 15 seconds, and then multiples of 15 seconds. Here is what I came up with in python and the problems I'm having with it, and as one user said its buggy due to the random library used in it. So I'm guessing a total rethink is on the table, here is where I need your help. Whats is the best way to solve the issue, I have had a brief look at things like knapsack and bin packing algorithms, while both are relevant neither are appropriate and maybe a bit beyond me.

• UIImagePicker on full screen on iPad

  For my tests, I need to create a simple app on the iPad to step 1. loads an image from the Photo library (UIImagePickerController). step 2. Then, this image is converted into texture and displayed into an OpenGL ES view. I started to define the app with the XCode Open GL ES template. Step 2 is Okay. But I have a problem launching the UIImagePickerController (step 1). On iPad, to create a UIImagePickerController, we need to use a UIPopoverController. But to create a UIPopover, we need to attach it to a content view controller In my app, I dont want to define a specific view controller (Navigation or SplitView or TabBar...). I just need to have the UIImagePicker displayed on full screen when launching the app. I am looking for a programatical solution with a minimum of lines of code added from the Open GL ES iPad template, to perform step 1 (step 2 is okay for me). any code available? It implements a callback into the host, specifically a custom PSHost object, enabling you to return the $lastexitcode. • Problem interfacing GSM USB modem to Java application

  I am working on an open-source application called FrontlineSMS which can be interfaced with GSM modems to send and receive SMS. The windows installer that is available through their website works fine. Since i wanted to modify it, I got the source code and built the jar and tried to launch it. When I plug in the GSM modem and launch the application, it sometimes detects the GSM device and i am even able to send and receive SMS. Or else 1.) • Android -- Can't play any videos (mp4/mov/3gp/etc.)?

  Hello all, I'm having great difficulty getting my Android application to play videos from the SD card. It doesn't matter what size, bitrate, video format, or any other setting I can think of, neither the emulator nor my G1 will play anything I try to encode. I've also tried a number of videos from the web (various video formats, bitrates, with and without audio tracks, etc.), and none of those work either. All I keep getting is a dialog box that says: "Cannot play video" "Sorry, this video cannot be played." There are errors reported in LogCat, but I don't understand them and I've tried searching the Internet for further explanations without any luck. • Visual Studio 2010 64-bit COM Interop Issue

  I am trying to add a VC6 COM DLL to our VS2010RC C# solution. The DLL was compiled with the VC6 tools to create an x86 version and was compiled with the VC7 Cross-platform tools to generate a VC7 DLL. The x86 version of the assembly works fine as long as the consuming C# project's platform is set to x86. It doesn't matter whether the x64 or the x86 version of the DLL is actually registered. It works with both. If the platform is set to 'Any CPU' I receive a BadImageFormatException on the load of the Interop.<name>.dll. As for the x64 version, I cannot even get the project to build. I receive the tlbimp error: TlbImp : error TI0000: A single valid machine type compatible with the input type library must be specified. Has anyone seen this issue? EDIT: I've done a lot more digging into this issue and think this may be a Visual Studio bug. I have a clean solution. I bring in my COM assembly with language agnostic 'Any CPU' selected. The process architecture of the resulting Interop DLL is x86 rather than MSIL. May have to make the Interop by hand for now to get this to work. If anyone has another suggestion let me know.

For example, the following is illegal C++: template <class T, int N> T mul(const T& x) { return x * N; } template <class T> T mul<T, 0>(const T& x) { return T(0); } // error: function template partial specialization ‘mul<T, 0>’ is not allowed However, partial template specialization of classes/structs is allowed, and can be exploited to mimic the functionality of partial template specialization of free functions. For example, the target objective in the last example can be achieved by using: template <class T, int N> struct mul_impl { static T fun(const T& x) { return x * N; } }; template <class T> struct mul_impl<T, 0> { static T fun(const T& x) { return T(0); } }; template <class T, int N> T mul(const T& x) { return mul_impl<T, N>::fun(x); } It's more bulky and less concise, but it gets the job done -- and as far as users of mul are concerned, they get the desired partial specialization. My questions is: when writing templated free functions (that are intended to be used by others), should you automatically delegate the implementation to a static method function of a class, so that users of your library may implement partial specializations at will, or do you just write the templated function the normal way, and live with the fact that people won't be able to specialize them?

• Using DirectX Effect11 with Visual Studio 2012

  I recently updated to Visual Studio 2012 Ultimate. I was programming previously with DirectX 11 June 2010 SDK and want to continue to do so using Visual Studio 2012. However, I discovered that VS2012 comes with its own DirectX SDK (in Windows Kit 8.0) and I've been trying to migrate my code using the newer versions of d3d11. Everything went fine until I try to use effect files in my project (.fx files). I had to compile the Effects11 Sample in the DirectX SDK using VS2012 and link the lib file in my project. That went fine too. However, when I compile my project the function D3DX11CreateEffectFromMemory returns a E_NOINTERFACE error (no such interface is supported). Can anyone tell me why is that? Note that I'm using the d3d11.lib from the Windows Kit and the d3dx11.lib from the DirectX SDK. Perhaps I shouldn't mix them? However, everything else works fine when I mix them, except for the effect file creation. Any help would be appreciated. P.S. I don't know if this is helpful but just so you know, if I add an additional library directory in the project settings of "DirectXSDKInstallPath\lib\x86\" it works. Why is that? Does it mean I'm using the older version of the libraries? This will give a ton of warnings about redefined headers in winerror.h

It seems to use something called gyp that I haven't figured out how to get working. • Is make -j distcc possible to scale over 5 times?

  Since distcc cannot keep states and just possible to send jobs and headers and let those servers to use only the data just sent and preprocess and compile, I think the lastest distcc has problem in scalability. In my local build environment which has appx. 10,000 c/c++ files to build, I could only make 2 times faster than not using distcc (but using make -j) when having 20 build servers. What do you think is the problem? If anyone has achieved scalability more than 10 - 20 times using make -j and distcc, please let me know. I'm planning on using Moq for this task, and an example test so far looks something like this: var mockEventAggregator = new Mock<IEventAggregator>(); var mockImportantEvent = new Mock<ImportantEvent>(); mockEventAggregator.Setup(e => e.GetEvent<SomeOtherEvent>()).Returns(new Mock<SomeOtherEvent>().Object); mockEventAggregator.Setup(e => e.GetEvent<SomeThirdEvent>()).Returns(new Mock<SomeThirdEvent>().Object); // ... mockEventAggregator.Setup(e => e.GetEvent<ImportantEvent>()).Returns(mockImportantEvent.Object); mockImportantEvent.Setup(e => e.Publish(It.IsAny<ImportantEventArgs>())); // ...Actual test... mockImportantEvent.VerifyAll(); This works fine, but I would like know, if there is some clever way to avoid having to define an empty mock for every event-type my code might encounter (SomeOtherEvent, SomeThirdEvent, ...)? I could of course define all my events this way in a [TestInitialize] method, but I would like to know if there is a more clever way? :-)

• Jetty and Access Denied

  Hello, I am using several libraries in a maven project and one of these libraries is Jetty (6.1.18). It is a mandatory dependency for an another library. If I run my application from eclipse, with the eclipse classpath which is set by the maven eclipse plugin, all works. However, if I generate a one jar with dependencies and then I run my application from this jar, I get the following exception : Exception in thread "main" java.lang.ExceptionInInitializerError at org.mortbay.jetty.nio.SelectChannelConnector.<init>(SelectChannelConnector.java:70) ... Caused by: java.security.AccessControlException: access denied (java.util.PropertyPermission org.mortbay.io.nio.JVMBUG_THRESHHOLD read) at java.security.AccessControlContext.checkPermission(AccessControlContext.java:323) at java.security.AccessController.checkPermission(AccessController.java:546) at java.lang.SecurityManager.checkPermission(SecurityManager.java:532) at java.lang.SecurityManager.checkPropertyAccess(SecurityManager.java:1285) at java.lang.System.getProperty(System.java:650) at java.lang.Integer.getInteger(Integer.java:865) at java.lang.Integer.getInteger(Integer.java:823) at org.mortbay.io.nio.SelectorManager.<clinit>(SelectorManager.java:47) ... 27 more I think it is due to a file which is overridden by an another with the same name when the one jar is built but I have no idea where to look for. Does someone has an idea ?

• Multithreading recommendation based on program description

  I would like to describe some specifics of my program and get feedback on what the best multithreading model to use would be most applicable. I've spent a lot of time now reading on ThreadPool, Threads, Producer/Consumer, etc. and have yet to come to solid conclusions. I have a list of files (all the same format) but with different contents. I have to perform work on each file. The work consists of reading the file, some processing that takes about 1-2 minutes of straight number crunching, and then writing large output files at the end. I would like the UI interface to still be responsive after I initiate the work on the specified files. Some questions: What model/mechanisms should I use? Producer/Consumer, WorkPool, etc. Should I use a BackgroundWorker in the UI for responsiveness or can I launch the threading from within the Form as long as I leave the UI thread alone to continue responding to user input? How could I take results or status of each individual work on each file and report it to the UI in a thread safe way to give user feedback as the work progresses (there can be close to 1000 files to process) Update: Great feedback so far, very helpful. I'm adding some more details that are asked below: Output is to multiple independent files. One set of output files per "work item" that then themselves gets read and processed by another process before the "work item" is complete The work items/threads do not share any resources. The work items are processed in part using a unmanaged static library that makes use of boost libraries.
