• File permissions question

  If I need a php-page to have access to upload images and move images from a folder on the server, what permissions would I set on the folder then? I know we have "Owner", "Group", and "Others". But what does the server (or the php-code itself) count as? Owner? Also, would I need to set the php-page with the upload script with some specific permissions to be able to upload the files? Is it execute permissions? Thanks

• Portable Socket programming in C/C++ possible?

  I am thinking of creating a multi-platform portable C++ server-client application. Is it even possible while using only standard libraries? If no, what other libraries are there? Are there any improvements in this direction in C++11x? Like for threads, now we have std::threads. To make it more clear.. I want something like boost::thread, which provides multiplatform portable multithreading, for networking. And why C++ doesn't have libraries(standard) for such basic things like networking?

  So right now, I'm just using a basic form to check a password. I want it to check the password and basically remain on page.html so I can use JavaScript to alert incorrect password or something. I'm not really sure how to do that. It seems it would bring me to check.php. I'm not too sure on the whole process, any help appreciated! Thanks! • Executing a file not a project

  I use Aptana Studio for my PHP projects. I have not learned it but just used with what I was able to do in it. Many features I still don't know how to use in it. At present, I have a HTML form and I want to write a .php script for the SEND button that it has. It is a submission script for the contact form. I want a simple PHP IDE with which I can execute a single PHP file or work with at least two or three files easily, without much mess. Please suggest a simple alternative to Aptana.

  I have an NFS share. This share is shared between several different applications. Our web server is running PHP and when it creates directories it is not setting the permissions correctly so it cannot write to the directory once created. How can I mount this NFS share to where PHP has full read/write access? Below is the directory that has been created along with the media server export options and the mount options on the web server.   One of the sites i visit has an annoying habit of naming all their files showimage.php. When i save the image or file it saves as a .php so i cannot open the file. The worse part is, there is a &ext=zip&more=blah in the url. Is it possible to use greasemonkey to rename the file ext so it isnt php? (maybe injecting a content disposition header?)

  Hi, I have to make a log server in java, and one task is to send the data compressed. Now I am sending it line by line in plain text, but I must compress it. The server handle "HTTP like" request. For example, I can get a log sending "GET xxx.log". This will entablish a TCP connection to the server, the server response with a header and the log, and close the connection. The client, reads line by line and analyzes each LOG entry. I tried some ways without success. My main problem is that I don't know where each line ends(in the client size). Any idea?

  I am new to objective c programming. I am currently trying to insert data into mysql database. I have read a couple links on this and could not find the exact answer I am looking for. Here is what I am trying to do: I have my app that user inputs a name in a text field and once the press the add button, it makes a connection to my php file and my php file does the rest of the work (using POST method) and adds the name to the mysql dataase. I have seen a lot of people use NSMutableURLRequest : setHTTPMethod :POST`` in their code (in my case my php file does that and I don't haveNSMutableURLRequest` included in my code and it works perfectly fine.) My questions are: Are there any benefits of including NSMutableURLRequest in your code when you can just call your php code to take care of the POST for you? What does NSMutableURLRequest exactly do and which way is more efficient?

  I want to run a particular block of PHP if the user submits a form. It works if I use a submit button with name="submit" and: <?php if(isset($_POST['submit'])) { code to run } ?> I don't know anything about javascript, and I want the code to run if the user changes a dropdown menu. If I make the first line of the dropdown <select name="dropdownname" onchange="this.form.submit()"> the form appears (I haven't tested it) to submit if the user changes the dropdown choice. However, if I do this, the if(isset($_POST['submit'])) PHP code doesn't run. Is there a PHP if statement I can write that will respond to the form being submitted even though it's being submitted by a change in the dropdown and not a submit button?

  I'm after creating a webpage that includes a blog section and it currently displays the whole post on the homepage. I'd like to set it so that it only displays a certain part of the entry i.e 50 words. I'd then like to be able to set it so that I have a read more button below the post that links to the post id.   I have a php script which takes a relative pathname via $_GET, reads that file and creates a thumbnail of it. I dont want the user to be able to read any file from the server. Only files from a certain directory should be allowed, otherwiese the script should exit(). Here is my folder structure: files/ <-- all files from this folder are public my_stuff/ <-- this is the folder of my script that reads the files My script is accessed via mydomain.com/my_stuff/script.php?pathname=files/some.jpg. What should not be allowed e. g.: mydomain.com/my_stuff/script.php?pathname=files/../db_login.php So, here is the relevant part of the script in my_stuff folder: ... $pathname = $_GET['pathname']; $pathname = realpath('../' . $_GET['pathname']); if(strpos($pathname, '/files/') === false) exit('Error'); ... I am not really sure about that approach, doesnt seem too safe for me. Anyone with a better idea?

• document.getElementById('form_name').submit() not working properly

  Ok, I will try to give the most details I can. The site is not suposed to work with IE6. It would be nice if it worked with IE8 and Chrome, but that can be done later. The site is in PHP. The form where the submit is in another PHP file that is included in position on the index.php inside of a DIV tag. If I open the form solely, the submit works correcly, but when I try to submit on the index page, the Firefox error console says that document is undefined. The form code is echoed line by line via PHP. Save the text fields for username and password, the form code is the following: <form id="entrar" action="entrar.php" method="post" onsubmit="javascript:checkvalues();"> <a href="javascript:document.getElementById('entrar').submit();">ENTRAR</a> </form> What's the big deal? What am I missing here? I know it is something very silly but I can't figure it out.

  Hello. What I'm trying to do: have pretty URLs in the format 'http://domain.tld/one/two/three', that get handled by a PHP script (index.php) by looking at the REQUEST_URI server variable. In my example, the REQUEST_URI would be '/one/two/three'. (Btw., is this a good idea in general?) I'm using Apache's mod_rewrite to achieve that. Here's the RewriteRule I use in my .htaccess: RewriteRule ^/?([a-zA-Z/]+)/?$ /index.php [NC,L] This works really well thus far; it forwards every REQUEST_URI that consists of a-z, A-Z or a '/' to /index.php, where it is processed. Only drawback: '?' (question marks) and '#' (hash keys) seem to still be allowed in the REQUEST_URI, maybe even more characters that I've yet to find. Is it possible to restrict those via my .htaccess and an adequate addition to the RewriteRule? Thanks!

And any available technology that speeds up php performance. We have heard that zend server offers an optimal performance for php. Please recommend a hosting server or a vps plan, that can handle such an application. given that our application has some kind of social networking and it applies alot of ajax requests even in minimal usage of the website, for example in 30 min we may have up to 400 requests from an individual user.   I was developing a website using Dreamweaver, I was editing one of my php files and suddenly the electricity shut down and my computer turned off. when I turned on my PC again and open the file that I was editing, all the contents were gone!!! When I look to the php file size it was 10 KB so that means it is not empty, so i decided to open it in note++ it showed me a long string of nulls !!! So is there a way to get my file contents back?? Please because I spent almost a week coding it :(
