• Custom listbox sorting

  I need to sort the data contained within a number of listboxes. The user will be able to select between two different types of sorting using radio boxes, one of which is checked by default on form load. I have created the IF statements needed in order to test whether the checked condition is true for that radio button. but i need some help to create the custom sort algorithms. Each list with contain similar looking data, the only difference in the prefix with which each line starts. For example each line in the first listbox starts with the prefix "G30" and the second listbox will be "G31" and so on. There are 10 listboxes in total (G30-G39 in terms of prefixes). The first search algorithm has to sort the lines by the number order of the first 13 chars. Example: This is how the data looks before sorting G35:45:58:11 JG07 G35:45:20:41 JG01 G35:58:20:21 JG03 G35:66:22:20 JG05 G35:45:85:21 JG02 G35:64:56:11 JG03 G35:76:35:11 JG02 G35:77:97:12 JG03 G35:54:29:11 JG01 G35:55:51:20 JG01 G35:76:24:20 JG06 G35:76:55:11 JG01 and this is how it should look after sorting G35:45:20:41 JG01 G35:45:58:11 JG07 G35:45:85:21 JG02 G35:54:29:11 JG01 G35:55:51:20 JG01 G35:58:20:21 JG03 G35:64:56:11 JG03 G35:66:22:20 JG05 G35:76:24:20 JG06 G35:76:35:11 JG02 G35:76:55:11 JG01 G35:77:97:12 JG03 as you can see, the prefixes are the same. so it is sorted, lowest first, by the next pair integers, then the next pair and the next but not by the value after "JG". the second sort algorithm will ignore the first 13 chars and sort by order of the value after "JG", highest first. any help? theres some rep in it for you :) thanks in advance

• Delphi, PGDac vs Zeos, Fetch, Lookup?

  Hi! I used Zeos to test to know: is ZTable uses fetch technics, or not? May in the future we migrate our lesser system to PGSQL, and this used now "Table" components (as BDE, but it have an SQL-like server). These tables use real cursors, a "Window" with N record, so lookup is very fast, because the Locate/Lookup is started on server, and only these N records are refreshed, no matter, how many records in the lookup table. PGSQL uses fetch technics as I know, and I tested it with a table (id int, name varchar(100)), and 1 million records. (I also trying this with mysql). The adapter is Zeos. ID, sec to find, allocated memory in bytes on client. I want to ask more things: a.) Is PGDAC have some technics to we can use the lookups without pay the fetch with memory and secs? b.) Or is PG ODBC driver can help in this problem with ADO? (As I know ADO can use server side cursors)? c.) Have anybody some experience with lookup tables, and performance? Is this critical question or it is not? (With client memory usage too). d.) • Good Learning Method for Objective-C?

  Hi I know this must be asked a millions times and can't be easy to answer as there is o definitive method, but any help would be appreciated, thanks. I have been playing around with all sorts of things in Xcode and with Objective-C, however I can't seem to find a good way of learning things in an efficient way. I have bought the book 'Programming in Objective-C 2.0' and its great but just lays down the basics it seems. I want to learn in the 2D game development direction, then of course 3D after nailing that, if thats the right thing to do? I am 17 currently in year 13, last year of school/A Levels and am almost definitely taking a gap year. Any good, well known reputable courses online or offline (real world)? This is my first programming language, and I am absolutely serious about learning this. One last question, is when learning things online, I have in the past started building a feature and learning a certain aspect in programming only to find out after adding more its slows down the app or its to inefficient. Is the key to use a certain method in a certain situation (being os many ways to do the same thing) or use any of those methods and refine it in your app to make it run smoothly? Sorry, its hard for me to know when I have little experience, thus far. Sorry for rambling on! I would appreciate any help, thank you!

• From ASPX to WCF

  I'm hoping someone can advise me on how to solve my networking scenario. Both the client and server are to be C# / .NET based. I basically want to invoke some kind of web service from my client in order to retrieve both binary data (e.g. files) and serialised objects and lists of objects (e.g. database query results). At the moment, I'm using ASPX pages, using the query string to provide parameters and I get back either the binary data, or the binary data of the serialised messages. This affords me a lot of flexbility, and I can choose how to transmit the data, perform simulatanous requests, cancel ongoing requests, etc. Since I can control the serialised format, I can also deserialise lists of objects as they are received which is crucial. My problem isn't a problem as such, but this feels a little hack-ish and I can't help but wonder if there are better ways to go about it. I'm considering moving on to WCF or perhaps another technology to see if it helps. However, I need to know if it helps with my scenarios above that is; Can a WCF method return a list of objects, and can the client receive the items of this list as they arrive as opposed to getting the entire list on completion (i.e. streaming). Does anyone know of any examples of this? Am I likely to get any performance benefits from this? I don't know how well ASPX pages are tuned for this, as it surely isn't their primary purpose. Are there any other approaches I should consider? Thanks for your time spent reading this. I hope you can help.

• What data structure to use / data persistence

  I have an app where I need one table of information with the following fields: field 1 - int or char field 2 - string (max 10 char) field 3 - string (max 20 char) field 4 - float I need the program to filter on field 1 based upon a segmented control and select a field 2 from a picker. From this data I need to look up field 4 to use in a calculation. Total records will be about 200. I never see it go above 400 - 500. I am going to use a singleton which I am able to do, I just need help with the structure for this with data persistence. What type of data structure should I use for this and should I use NSNumber, NSString, etc. or old data types like float, Char, etc. I thought about a struct put into an array but there is probably a better way. This is new to me so any help or reference to examples would be great. I also thought about a plist or dictionary but it looks like it is just a lookup and a field which obviously won't work. Core data looked like overkill to me. Also, with any recommendation how should I get initial data into it? I want the user to be able to edit and add to the database. • Suppress indentation after environment in LaTeX

  I'm trying to create a new environment in my LaTeX document where indentation in the next paragraph following the environment is suppressed. I have been told (TeXbook and LaTeX source) that by setting \everypar to {\setbox0\lastbox}, the TeX typesetter will execute this at the beginning of the next paragraph and thus remove the indentation: \everypar{\setbox0\lastbox} So this is what I do, but to no effect (following paragraph is still indented): \newenvironment{example} {\begin{list} {} {\setlength\leftmargin{2em}}} {\end{list}\everypar{\setbox0\lastbox}} I have studied LaTeX's internals as well as I could manage. It seems that the \end routine says \endgroup and \par at some point, which may be the reason LaTeX ignores my \everypar setting. \global doesn't help either. I know about \noindent but want to do this automatically. Example document fragment: This is paragraph text. This is paragraph text, too. \begin{example} \item This is the first item in the list. \item This is the second item in the list. \end{example} This is more paragraph text. I don't want this indented, please. Internal routines and switches of interest seem to be \@endpetrue, \@endparenv and others. Thanks for your help.

  Hi Everyone, I am working with the free redtheme to make a website. This is my first week into magento and designing any website. I have installed and started having a look at magento admin interface. I am not sure how to get top navigational bar working. Which files needs to be changed to get a top nav bar. While googling and reading a few articles I found that top.phtml file and added my tags with menus. But they don’t seem to work. {{ maybe this is why everyone is saying magento is slow }} Finally got it working but now unable to get drop down menus. Can anyone help with this. Which files do i need to edit to get a drop down horizontal menu. My next question is regarding red theme. I installed the theme and was playing with it. Trying to get the banner using the red theme user guide pdf but couldnt find the add new banner option anywhere. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

• I deleted a full set of columns in a save, but have the original larger sheet, Can I get that back?

  I have an original sheet that has over 39000 lines in it. I knocked it down to 1800 lines that I want to improt into my database, however. The Dumb#$$ that I am, I selected only the visible cells and killed like 10 columns that I need. Is there a way to compare to the original sheet using a specific column... i.e. SKU and pull the data from the origianal to put back in the missing columns or do I have to just re-edit the whole thing down again. Please help as this takes a good day or two to minimize. Any and all help is much appreciated. Below is the column list on the edited sheet vs. the original sheet. • Dojox Datagrid contains data, but shows up as empty

  I'd really appreciate any help on this. There is this Dojox Datagrid that I'm creating programatically and supplying JSON data. As of now, I'm creating this data within JavaScript itself. But I know for sure that the data in the grid does exist and the grid is properly initialized, because I called alert (grid.domNode.innerHTML);. The resultant HTML that is thrown up does show a table containing header rows and the above data. This link contains an image which illustrates what I'm seeing when I display the page. (Can't post images since my account is new here) As you may notice, there are 6 rows for 6 pieces of data I have created but the grid is a mess. • GridView: How can I get rid of extra space from my GirdView object?

  Hello, I'm writing an application for Android phones for Human vs. Human chess play over the internet. I was looking at some tutorials, to learn how to develop Android applications and found a very nice example of making galleries (it was a GridView usage example for making a gallery about dogs) and the idea came to draw the chess table using a GridView, because the example project also handled the point & click event and I intended to use the same event in the same way, but for a different purpose. The game works well (currently it's a hotseat version), however, I'm really frustrated by the fact that whenever I rotate the screen of the phone, my GridView gets hysterical and puts some empty space in my chess table between the columns. I realized that the cause of this is that the GridView's width is the same as its parent's and the GridView tries to fill its parent in with, but there should (and probably is) be a simple solution to get rid of this problem. However, after a full day of researching, I haven't found any clue to help me to make a perfect drawing about my chess table without a negative side effect in functionality. The chess table looks fine if the phone is in Portrait mode, but in Landscape mode it's far from nice. • preg_match_all and newlines inside quotes

  Another noob regex problem/question. I'm probably doing something silly so I thought I'd exploit the general ingenuity of the SO regulars ;) Trying to match newlines but only if they occur within either double quotes or single quotes. I also want to catch strings that are between quotes but contain no newlines. Okay so there's what i got, with output. Below that, will be the output I would like to get. Any help would be greatly appreciated! :) I use Regex Coach to help me create my patterns, being a novice and all. According to RC, The pattern I supply does match all occurances within the data, but in my PHP, it skips over the multi-line part. I have tried with the 'm' pattern modifier already, to no avail. • Problem executing script using Python and subprocces.call yet works in Bash

  Hello, For the first time, I am asking a little bit of help over here as I am more of a ServerFault person. I am doing some scripting in Python and I've been loving the language so far yet I have this little problem which is keeping my script from working. Here is the code line in question : subprocess.call('xen-create-image --hostname '+nom+' --memory '+memory+' --partitions=/root/scripts/part.tmp --ip '+ip+' --netmask '+netmask+' --gateway '+gateway+' --passwd',shell=True) I have tried the same thing with os.popen. All the variables are correctly set. When I execute the command in question in my regular Linux shell, it works perfectly fine but when I execute it using my Python scripts, I get bizarre errors. I even replaced subprocess.call() by the print function to make sure I am using the exact output of the command. I went looking into environment variables of my shell but they are pretty much the same... I'll post the error I am getting but I'm not sure it's relevant to my problem. Use of uninitialized value $lines[0] in substitution (s///) at /usr/share/perl5/Config/IniFiles.pm line 614. Use of uninitialized value $_ in pattern match (m//) at /usr/share/perl5/Config/IniFiles.pm line 628. I am not a Python expert so I'm most likely missing something here. • Binding event handlers to specific elements, using bubbling (JavaScript/jQuery)

  I'm working on a project that approximates the functionality of Firebug's inspector tool. That is, when mousing over elements on the page, I'd like to highlight them (by changing their background color), and when they're clicked, I'd like to execute a function that builds a CSS selector that can be used to identify them. However, I've been running into problems related to event bubbling, and have thoroughly confused myself. Rather than walk you down that path, it might make sense just to explain what I'm trying to do and ask for some help getting started. Here are some specs: I'm only interested in elements that contain a text node (or any descendant elements with text nodes). When the mouse enters such an element, change its background color. When the mouse leaves that element, change its background color back to what it was originally. When an element is clicked, execute a function that builds a CSS selector for that element. I don't want a mouseover on an element's margin area to count as a mouseover for that element, but for the element beneath (I think that's default browser behavior anyway?). I can handle the code that highlights/unhighlights, and builds the CSS selector. What I'm primarily having trouble with is efficiently binding event handlers to the elements that I want to be highlightable/clickable, and avoiding/stopping bubbling so that mousing over a (<p>) element doesn't also execute the handler function on the <body>, for example. I think the right way to do this is to bind event handlers to the document element, then somehow use bubbling to only execute the bound function on the topmost element, but I don't have any idea what that code looks like, and that's really where I could use help. I'm using jQuery, and would like to rely on that as much as possible. Thanks in advance for any guidance!

  I have a scroll view containing several images embedded within a custom cell view, it sometimes scrolls horizontally if I keep holding the cell for a while. I tried a lot of things and it doesn't seem to work, please help? However I am wondering if somebody can help me modify the code to: 1) Check if data from column A already exists in the SQL Table 2) If exists, then only update rather than import as a new role 3) if does not exist then import as a new role. • Why does the same Getopt::Long code work differently in different programs?

  The following code works in one script yet in another only works if a specify the -- end of options flag before specifying an option: my $opt; GetOptions( 'help|h' => sub { usage("you want help?? hahaha, hopefully you're not serious!!"); }, 'file|f=s' => \$opt->{FILE}, 'report|r' => \$opt->{REPORT}, ) or usage("Bad Options"); In other words, the same code words in good.pl and bad.pl like so: good.pl -f bad.pl -- -f If I try bad.pl -f I get unknown option:f. Anyone have any clue as to what can cause this behavior? Thanks in advance! I've solved this..... and btw it's a VERY clear question (so why the downvotes)? I'll state it again: What would cause the identical GetOptions block to work in these 2 ways: "good.pl -f" "bad.pl -- -f" see how clear? Maybe you guys should think about it as if it were a TEST!

• Form values in a list item

  Here is the site mock-up I'm working on for my job: http://dev.arm.gov/~noensie/dqhands/cgi-bin/explorer. I'm still a novice in web developing and I need help with placing form values in a list item to pass on to another page. I'd rather not go in great detail the purpose of this website, but in terms of its basic use, select the parameters in the middle column for a request and add it to the list on the right column by pressing on "add request" button when it appears. After the list have been populated, a user would submit the selected requests, which will direct them to another page based on the requests selected (or added to the list, same thing). That last sentence is where I'm having a problem. Right now, each of request in the list in the right column are <li> elements and I assign them attribute values that needed to be passed on to the next page. I tried inserting a hidden input with same values, but I'm still not sure how to utilize that; I'm not even sure using the hidden input is the correct way. Also the "submit request" button is located outside the <form> block. I was going to utilize javascript and jQuery to enable the button to serialize the values in the <form> block, but I don't know quite how to do that. Go ahead and take a look at my javascript code (index.js) and slay me, or, I mean, my code. It's still pretty elementary and short (~260 lines, that's short right?). I will take any help for this problem (as the matter of fact, if you see any other problems or a better way of implementation of something, go ahead and mention that too); tips, advice, code samples, or whatever else you can contribute, it will be greatly appreciated. I'm new to python and as I learn the language I've managed to write a little MVC framework running in its own light-weight-WSGI-like server.   Hi. Maybe someone can help me with this strange thing: If a user clicks on a button, a new UITableView is pushed to the navigation controller. This new view is doing some database querying which takes some time. Therefore I wanted to do the loading in background. • Problem in migrating to LAMP from XAMPP.. Memory limit error

  I was using XAMPP for my local machine but as I wanted to run applications like mysql work bench and some test frameworks I decided to switch to LAMP self install. I'm using ubuntu and followed the instructions at: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ApacheMySQLPHP But the problem is LAMP is consuming too much of my memory (RAM) I've allocated 124 MB currently but still it gives me memory exhausted error when I run Drush (Drupal command line). • Static variables and long running thread on IIS 7.5

  Hello people. Help me solve next problem. I have ASP .NET MVC2 application. I run it on IIS 7.5. In one page user clicks button and handler for this button sends request to server (jquery.ajax). At server action in controller starts new thread (it makes long time import): var thread = new Thread(RefreshCitiesInDatabase); thread.Start(); State of import is available in static variable. New thread changes value of variable in the begin of work. User can check state of import too with the help of this variable, which is used in view. And user sees import's state. When I start this function few minutes everything is okey. On page I see right state of import, quantity of imported records is changed, I see changes in logs. But after few minutes begin troubles. When I refresh page with import state sometimes I see that import is okey but sometimes I see page with default values about import (like application is just started), but after that again I can see page with normal import's state. I tried to attach Visual Studio to IIS process and debug application. But when request comes to controller sometimes static variables have right values and sometimes they have default values (static int has 0, static string has "" etc.). Tell me what I do wrong. • Visual Studio 2008 / ASP.NET 3.5 / C# -- issues with intellisense, references, and builds

  Hey all, Hoping you can help me -- the strangest thing seems to have happened with my VS install. System config: Windows 7 Pro x64, Visual Studio 2008 SP1, C#, ASP.NET 3.5. I have two web site projects in a solution. I am referencing NUnit / NHibernate (did this by right-clicking on the project and selecting "Add Reference". I've done this for several projects in the past). Things were working fine but recently stopped working and I can't figure out why. Intellisense completely disappears for any files in my App_Code directory, and none of the references are recognized (they are recognized by any file in the root directory of the web site project. Additionally, pretty simple commands like the following (in Page_Load) fail (assume TextBox1 is definitely an element on the page): if (Page.IsPostBack) { str test1; test1 = TextBox1.Text; } It says that all the page elements are null or that it can't access them. At first I thought it was me, but due to the combination of issues, it seems to be Visual Studio itself. I've tried clearing the temp directories & rebuilding the solution. I've also tried tools -- options -- text editor settings to ensure intellisense is turned on. I'd appreciate any help you can give! Thanks, Sean
