I am using TestCategoryAttribute to filter which tests to run during builds and wandered, how to -how to assign multiple test categories.According to constructor documentation only single category can be specified. However TestCategories Property (plural!)can return multiple categories.Grouping Tests into Test Categories: You can add an automated test to one or multiple test categories using a test attribute. HTG Explains: Just How Bad Are Android Tablet Apps?

Apple loves to criticize the state of Android tablet apps when pushing its own iPad tablets. But just how bad is the Android tablet app situation? Should you avoid Android tablets like the Nexus 7 because of the apps? It’s clear that Apple’s iPad is way ahead when it comes to the sheer quantity of tablet-optimized apps. It’s also clear that some popular apps — particularly touch-optimized games — only show up on iPad. But that’s not the whole story. The Basics First, let’s get an idea of the basic stuff that will work well for you on Android. An excellent web browser. Chrome has struggled with performance on Android, but hits its stride on the Nexus 7 (2013). Great, tablet-optimized apps for all of Google’s services, from YouTube to Gmail and Google Maps. Everything you need for reading, from Amazon’s Kindle app for eBooks, Flipboard and Feedly for new articles from websites, and other services like the popular Pocket read-it-later service. Apps for most popular media services, from Netflix, Hulu, and YouTube for videos to Pandora, Spotify, and Rdio for music. A few things aren’t available — you won’t find Apple’s iTunes and Amazon still doesn’t offer an Amazon Instant Video app for Android, while they do for iPad and even their own Android-based Kindle Fire devices. Android has very good app coverage when it comes to consuming content, whether you’re reading websites and ebooks or watching videos and listening to music. You can play almost any Android smartphone game, too. For content consumption, Android is better than something like Windows 8, which lacks apps for Google services like YouTube and still doesn’t have apps for popular media services like Spotify and Rdio. How Android Scales Smartphone Apps Let’s look at how Android scales smartphone apps. Now, bear with us here — we know “scaling” is a dirty word considering how poorly Apple’s iPad scales iPhone apps, but it’s not as bad on Android. When an iPad runs an iPhone app, it simply doubles the pixels and effectively zooms in. For example, if you had Twitter app with five tweets visible at once on an iPhone and ran the same app on an iPad, the iPad would simply “zoom in” and enlarge the same screen — you’d still see five tweets, but each tweet would appear larger. This is why developers create optimized iPad apps with their own interfaces. It’s especially important on Apple’s iOS. Android devices come in all shapes and sizes, so Android apps have a smarter, more intelligent way to adapt to different screen sizes. Let’s say you have a Twitter app designed for smartphones and it only shows five tweets at once when run on a phone. If you ran the same app on a tablet, you wouldn’t see the same five tweets — you’d see ten or more tweets. Rather than simply zooming in, the app can show more content at the same time on a tablet, even if it was never optimized for tablet-size screens. While apps designed for smartphones aren’t generally ideal, they adapt much better on Android than they do on an iPad. This is particularly true when it comes to games. You’re capable of playing almost any Android smartphone game on an Android tablet, and games generally adapt very well to the larger screen. This gives you access to a huge catalog of games. It’s a great option to have, especially when you look at Microsoft’s Window 8 and consider how much better the touch-based app and game selection would be if Microsoft allowed its users to run Windows Phone games on Windows 8. 7-inch vs 10-inch Tablets The Twitter example above wasn’t just an example. The official Twitter app for Android still doesn’t have a tablet-optimized interface, so this is the sort of situation you’d have to deal with on an Android tablet. On the popular Nexus 7, Twitter is an example of a smartphone app that actually works fairly well — in portrait mode, you can see many more tweets on screen at the same time and none of the space really feels all that wasted. This is important to consider — smartphone apps like Twitter often scale quite well to 7-inch screens because a 7-inch screen is much closer in form factor to a smartphone than a 10-inch screen is. When you begin to look at 10-inch Android tablets that are the same size as an iPad, the situation changes. While the Twitter app works well enough on a Nexus 7, it looks horrible on a Nexus 10 or other 10-inch tablet. Running many smartphone-designed apps — possible with the exception of games — on a 10-inch tablet is a frustrating, poor experience. There’s much more white, empty space in the interface. It feels like you’re using a smartphone app on a large screen, and what’s the point of that? A tablet-optimized Twitter app for Android is finally on its way, but this same situation will repeat with many other types of apps. For example, Facebook doesn’t offer a tablet-optimized interface, but it’s okay on a Nexus 7 anyway. On a 10-inch screen, it probably wouldn’t be anywhere near as nice an experience. It goes without saying that Facebook and Twitter both offer iPad apps with interfaces designed for a tablet-size screen. Here’s another problematic app — the official Yelp app for Android. Even just using it on a 7-inch Nexus 7 will be a poor experience, while it would be much worse on a larger 10-inch tablet app. Now, it’s true that many — maybe even most — of the popular apps you might want to run today are optimized for Android tablets. But, when you look at the situation when it comes to popular apps like Twitter, Facebook, and Yelp, it’s clear Android is still behind in a meaningful way. Price Let’s be honest. The thing that really makes Android tablets compelling — and the only reason Android tablets started seeing real traction after years of almost complete dominance by Apple’s iPads — is that Android tablets are available for so much cheaper than iPads. Google’s latest Nexus 7 (2013) is available for only $230. Apple’s non-retina iPad Mini is available at $300, which is already $70 more. In spite of that, the iPad Mini has much older, slower internals and a much lower resolution screen. It’s not as nice to look at when it comes to reading or watching movies, and the iPad Mini reportedly struggles to run Apple’s latest iOS 7. In contrast, the new Nexus 7 has a very high resolution screen, speedy internals, and runs Android very well with little-to-no lag in real use. We haven’t had any problems with it, unlike all the problems we unfortunately encountered with the first Nexus 7. For a really comparable experience to the current Nexus 7, you’d want to get one of Apple’s new retina iPad Minis. That would cost you $400, another $170 over the Nexus 7. In fact, it’s possible to regularly find sales on the Nexus 7, so if you waited you could get it for just $200 — half the price of the iPad mini with a comparable screen and internals. (In fairness, the iPad certainly has better hardware — but you won’t feel if it you’re just using your tablet to browse the web, watch videos, and do other typical tablet things.) This makes a tablet like the popular Nexus 7 a very good option for budget-conscious users who just want a high-quality device they can use to browse the web, watch videos, play games, and generally do light computing. There’s a reason we’re focusing on the Nexus 7 here. The combination of price and size brings it to a very good place. It’s awfully cheap for the high-quality experience you get, and the 7-inch screen means that even the non-tablet-optimized apps you may stumble across will often work fairly well. On the other hand, more expensive 10-inch Android tablets are still a tougher sell. For $400-$500, you’re getting awfully close to Apple’s full-size iPad price range and Android tablets don’t have as good an app ecosystem as an iPad. It’s hard to recommend an expensive, 10-inch Android tablet over a full-size iPad to average users. In summary, the Android app tablet app situation is nowhere near as bad as it was a few years ago. The success of the Nexus 7 proves that Android tablets can be compelling experiences, and there are a wide variety of strong apps. That said, more expensive 10-inch Android tablets that compete directly with the full-size iPad on price still don’t make much sense for most people. Unless you have a specific reason for preferring an Android tablet, it’s tough not to recommend an iPad if you’re looking at spending $400+ on a 10-inch tablet. What is a good site to use for scheduling 20+ developers and 10 projects? (resource planning) [closed]

I have around 20 developers and 10 or so active projects. Then I get asked if my team can take on more work, and who is going to free up when. Currently we are using a spreadsheet to keep track :( I've been digging around for a few hours and haven't found anything that meets my requirements, which are: Web based Schedule a developer's time over a period of days/weeks/months Be able to see at a glance which developer has extra capacity Quickly see when the group could take on another large project I don't mind paying for the software (It does NOT need to be free) Two projects which look close are http://www.ganttic.com/tour and http://resourceguruapp.com/ What else are people using? Anyone have the perfect solution

Change permission for ALL folders and files

I've been around Ubuntu for not too long now and I'm getting tired of a thing I used to accept. When I installed Apache and PHP on Ubuntu it was done with root meaning it got permission. So I changed that to me. Now I've just copied a big number of files, (PHP), to be viewed and edited in these directories. Now my problem: I can not view the files from var/www/ because it requires, for some reason, everyone to have access to the files. Not only me, or my group but everyone. No one else is using the computer but me, so I'm cool with it. Though I need a command to change ALL files permission recursively. When I've browsed the questions already been answered I find for example chown -R viktor:viktor /var/www/, or using sudo as well. This worked on the single var/www and the folders inside but not the files inside the folders and very odd I notice I can't do the same thing on example /var/www/dev/.

Algorithm to optimize grouping

I would like to know if there's a known algorithm or best practice way to do the following: I have a collection with a subcollection, for example: R1 R2 R3 -- -- -- M M M N N L L A What i need is an algorithm to get the following result: R1, R2: M N L R2: A R3: M This is -not- what i want, it has more repeating values for R than the above: R1, R2, R3: M R1, R2: N L R2: A I need to group in way that i get the most optimized groups of R. The least amount of groups of R the better so i get the largest sub collections. Another example (with the most obvious result): R1 R2 R3 -- -- -- M M A V V B L L C Should result in: R1, R2: M V L R3: A B C I need to do this in LINQ/C#. Any solutions? Tips? Links?

usb devices unacessible

I have a funny thing happening with my USB devices. They are detected and show up as they should but I cannot write to them, I can read the files in them. I cannot change the Group folder access. It keeps reverting to none when I try change it. However when I start a guest session and copy a screen shot to the USB I can, but cannot in my regular administration session. Why cannot I change the option and why does it behave properly in a guest session but not normally? Anyone know how to help me out here? I am using Ubuntu 12.04, 32-bit.

Sniffing out SQL Code Smells: Inconsistent use of Symbolic names and Datatypes

It is an awkward feeling. You’ve just delivered a database application that seems to be working fine in production, and you just run a few checks on it. You discover that there is a potential bug that, out of sheer good chance, hasn’t kicked in to produce an error; but it lurks, like a smoking bomb. Worse, maybe you find that the bug has started its evil work of corrupting the data, but in ways that nobody has, so far detected. You investigate, and find the damage. You are somehow going to have to repair it. Yes, it still very occasionally happens to me. It is not a nice feeling, and I do anything I can to prevent it happening. That’s why I’m interested in SQL code smells. SQL Code Smells aren’t necessarily bad practices, but just show you where to focus your attention when checking an application. Sometimes with databases the bugs can be subtle. SQL is rather like HTML: the language does its best to try to carry out your wishes, rather than to be picky about your bugs. Most of the time, this is a great benefit, but not always. One particular place where this can be detrimental is where you have implicit conversion between different data types. Most of the time it is completely harmless but we’re concerned about the occasional time it isn’t. Let’s give an example: String truncation. Let’s give another even more frightening one, rounding errors on assignment to a number of different precision. Each requires a blog-post to explain in detail and I’m not now going to try. Just remember that it is not always a good idea to assign data to variables, parameters or even columns when they aren’t the same datatype, especially if you are relying on implicit conversion to work its magic.For details of the problem and the consequences, see here: SR0014: Data loss might occur when casting from {Type1} to {Type2} . For any experienced Database Developer, this is a more frightening read than a Vampire Story. This is why one of the SQL Code Smells that makes me edgy, in my own or other peoples’ code, is to see parameters, variables and columns that have the same names and different datatypes. Whereas quite a lot of this is perfectly normal and natural, you need to check in case one of two things have gone wrong. Either sloppy naming, or mixed datatypes. Sure it is hard to remember whether you decided that the length of a log entry was 80 or 100 characters long, or the precision of a number. That is why a little check like this I’m going to show you is excellent for tidying up your code before you check it back into source Control! 1/ Checking Parameters only If you were just going to check parameters, you might just do this. It simply groups all the parameters, either input or output, of all the routines (e.g. stored procedures or functions) by their name and checks to see, in the HAVING clause, whether their data types are all the same. Worth investigating. Then we have a @Comment variable that can't decide whether it is a VARCHAR(2000) or a VARCHAR(MAX) 2/ Columns and Parameters Actually, once we’ve cleared up the mess we’ve made of our parameter-naming in the database we’re inspecting, we’re going to be more interested in listing both columns and parameters. We can do this by modifying the routine to list columns as well as parameters. Because of the slight complexity of creating the string version of the datatypes, we will create a fake table of both columns and parameters so that they can both be processed the same way. After all, we want the datatypes to match Unfortunately, parameters do not expose all the attributes we are interested in, such as whether they are nullable (oh yes, subtle bugs happen if this isn’t consistent for a datatype). We’ll have to leave them out for this check. Voila! I can tell you I found quite a few minor issues with the various tabases I tested this on, and found some potential bugs that really leap out at you from the results. Here is the start of the result for AdventureWorks. Yes, AccountNumber is, for some reason, a Varchar(10) in the Customer table. Hmm. odd. Why is a city fifty characters long in that view? The idea of the description of a colour being 256 characters long seems over-ambitious. Go down the list and you'll spot other mistakes. There are no bugs, but just mess. We started out with a listing to examine parameters, then we mixed parameters and columns. Our last listing is for a slightly more in-depth look at table columns. You’ll notice that we’ve delibarately removed the indication of whether a column is persisted, or is an identity column because that gives us false positives for our code smells. If ever there was a source of elusive bugs, you'll find it there. Sadly, these temporary variables are not stored in the metadata so we'll have to find a more subtle way of flushing these out, and that will, I'm afraid, have to wait!

Discovering Assets on Multiple Subnets

I saw this question recently, about making discovery work: "I am attempting to discover a group of ILOMs which seem to be on a different subnet than their hosts. When I try to discover the ILOMs, Ops Center can't find them. Is it a requirement that the ILOM and its host should be on the same subnet?" The short answer is no, related assets don't have to be on the same subnet for you to discover them. The correlation between related assets doesn't depend on them being on the same subnet. What's likely going on, if you're running into similar issues, is that the subnet where you're trying to discover systems needs to be associated with a Proxy Controller that can reach it. You can go here to see how to associate a network with a Proxy Controller. Once the network is associated with a Proxy Controller, you should be able to discover and manage assets on it.

Why doesn't apache2 respect my envvars file?

My envvar files has these lines in it: export APACHE_RUN_USER=www-data export APACHE_RUN_GROUP=www-data My apache2.conf has these lines in it: # These need to be set in /etc/apache2/envvars User ${APACHE_RUN_USER} Group ${APACHE_RUN_GROUP} But when I run apache2 -M I get this: apache2: bad user name ${APACHE_RUN_USER} A temporary fix is to hard-code www-data into it my apache2.conf file. There was some speculation here that this was because some configuration script didn't replace the env vars correctly in my apache2.conf file. Regardless how do I get apache2 to consult my envvars file? As another data point this site seems to indicate the envvars is generated at build, but read by apache2ctl at runtime, suggesting that this file isn't just poop leftover by the build process.

Should each app have its own database, or should small apps be merged into one?

We have a bunch of small to medium sized apps, each of which has its own database (MSSQL Server). There was a suggestion that we consoldate the 'related' databases into a smaller set amount of larger databases. They don't particularly share a lot of data, they would just be under a similar business group. For example, using a 'Finance' DB to hold the tables and procedures for finance apps. Would it be appropriate to use a different schema for each app? E.g. App1.SomeTable App1.SomeOtherTable AppTwo.SomeTable What are the pros and cons of this approach? What should I watch out for? Thanks

A “large” environment is categorized by the number of agents, targets and users. See the Oracle Enterprise Manager Cloud Control Advanced Installation and Configuration Guide chapter on Sizing for more details on sizing your environment properly. Part 1 of this series covered recommended configuration changes for the OMS and Repository Part 2 covered recommended changes for the Weblogic server Part 3 covers general configuration recommendations and a few known issues The entire series can be found in the My Oracle Support note titled Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c Configuration Best Practices [1553342.1]. Configuration Recommendations Configure E-Mail Notifications for EM related Alerts In some environments, the notifications for events for different target types may be sent to different support teams (i.e. notifications on host targets may be sent to a platform support team). However, the EM application administrators should be well informed of any alerts or problems seen on the EM infrastructure components. Recommendation: Create a new Incident rule for monitoring all EM components and setup the notifications to be sent to the EM administrator(s). The notification methods available can create or update an incident, send an email or forward to an event connector. To setup the incident rule set follow the steps below. Note that each individual rule in the rule set can have different actions configured. 1. To create an incident rule for monitoring the EM components, click on Setup / Incidents / Incident Rules. On the All Enterprise Rules page, click on the out-of-box rule called “Incident management Ruleset for all targets” and then click on the Actions drop down list and select “Create Like Rule Set…” 2. For the rule set name, enter a name such as MTM Ruleset. Under the Targets tab, select “All targets of types” and select “OMS and Repository” from the drop down list. This target type contains all of the key EM components (OMS servers, repository, domains, etc.) 3. Click on the Rules tab. To edit a rule, click on the rule name and click on Edit as seen below 4. Modify the following rules: a. Incident creation Rule for metric alerts i. Leave the Type set as is but change the Severity to add Warning by clicking on the drop down list and selecting “Warning”. Click Next. ii. Add or modify the actions as required (i.e. add email notifications). Click Continue and then click Next. iii. Leave the Name and description the same and click Next. iv. Click Continue on the Review page. b. Incident creation Rule for target unreachable. i. Leave the Type set as is but change the Target type to add OMS and Repository by clicking on the drop down list selecting “OMS and Repository”. Click Next. ii. Add or modify the actions as required (i.e. add email notifications) Click Continue and then click Next. iii. Leave the Name and description the same and click Next. iv. Click Continue on the Review page. 5. Modify the actions for any other rule as required and be sure to click the “Save” push button to save the rule set or all changes will be lost. Configure Out-of-Band Notifications for EM Agent Out-of-Band notifications act as a backup when there’s a complete EM outage or a repository database issue. This is configured on the agent of the OMS server and can be used to send emails or execute another script that would create a trouble ticket. It will send notifications about the following issues: • Repository Database down • All OMS are down • Repository side collection job that is broken or has an invalid schedule • Notification job that is broken or has an invalid schedule Recommendation: To setup Out-of-Band Notifications, refer to the MOS note “How To Setup Out Of Bound Email Notification In 12c” (Doc ID 1472854.1) Modify the Performance Test for the EM Console Service The EM Console Service has an out-of-box defined performance test that will be run to determine the status of this service. The test issues a request via an HTTP method to a specific URL. By default, the HTTP method used for this test is a GET but for performance reasons, should be changed to HEAD. The URL used for this request is set to point to a specific OMS server by default. If a multi-OMS system has been implemented and the OMS servers are behind a load balancer, then the URL in this section must be modified to point to the load balancer name instead of a specific server name. If this is not done and a portion of the infrastructure is down then the EM Console Service will show down as this test will fail. Recommendation: Modify the HTTP Method for the EM Console Service test and the URL if required following the detailed steps below. 1. To create an incident rule for monitoring the EM components, click on Targets / Services. From the list of services, click on the EM Console Service. 2. On the EM Console Service page, click on the Test Performance tab. 3. At the bottom of the page, click on the Web Transaction test called EM Console Service Test 4. Click on the Service Tests and Beacons breadcrumb near the top of the page. 5. Under the Service Tests section, make sure the EM Console Service Test is selected and click on the Edit push button. 6. Under the Transaction section, make sure the Access Logout page transaction is selected and click on the Edit push button 7) Under the Request section, change the HTTP Method from the default of GET to the recommended value of HEAD. The URL in this section must be modified to point to the load balancer name instead of a specific server name if multi-OMSes have been implemented. Check for Known Issues Job Purge Repository Job is Shown as Down This issue is caused after upgrading EM from 12c to 12cR2. On the Repository page under Setup ? Manage Cloud Control ? Repository, the job called “Job Purge” is shown as down and the Next Scheduled Run is blank. Also, repvfy reports that this is a missing DBMS_SCHEDULER job. Recommendation: In EM 12cR2, the apply_purge_policies have been moved from the MGMT_JOB_ENGINE package to the EM_JOB_PURGE package. To remove this error, execute the commands below: $ repvfy verify core -test 2 -fix To confirm that the issue resolved, execute $ repvfy verify core -test 2 It can also be verified by refreshing the Job Service page in EM and check the status of the job, it should now be Up. Configure the Listener Targets in EM with the Listener Password (where required) EM will report this error every time it is encountered in the listener log file. In a RAC environment, typically the grid home and rdbms homes are owned by different OS users. The listener always runs from the grid home. Only the listener process owner can query or change the listener properties. The listener uses a password to allow other OS users (ex. the agent user) to query the listener process for parameters. EM has a default listener target metric that will query these properties. If the agent is not permitted to do this, the TNS incident (TNS-1190) will be logged in the listener’s log file. This means that the listener targets in EM also need to have this password set. Not doing so will cause many TNS incidents (TNS-1190). Below is a sample of this error from the listener log file: Recommendation: Set a listener password and include it in the configuration of the listener targets in EM For steps on setting the listener passwords, see MOS notes: 260986.1 , 427422.1
