  I need serious help diving the positive numbers and the negative numbers. I am to accumulate the total of the negative values and separately accumulate the total of the positive values. After the loop, you are then to display the sum of the negative values and the sum of the positive values. • jeditable not updating browser display - leaves "click to edit..." after succesful edit

  I am using jeditable fairly simply and it all works fine, updates the database, etc. The only problem I have is after the user types the new value data and hits enter it doesn't update the field in the browser to show the new value - instead it puts "Click to edit..." in place of it. Am I missing something like a return value from my php file? the php fucntion just takes the args and updates the database - and it works fine. • Algorithm to find the percentage of how much two texts are identical

  What algorithm would you suggest to identify how much from 0 to 1 (float) two texts are identical? Note that I don't mean similar (ie, they say the same thing but in a different way), I mean exact same words, but one of the two texts could have extra words or words slightly different or extra new lines and stuff like that. A good example of the algorithm I want is the one google uses to identify duplicate content in websites (X search results very similar to the ones shown have been omitted, click here to see them). The reason I need it is because my website has the ability for users to post comments; similar but different pages currently have their own comments, so many users ended up copy&pasting their comments on all the similar pages. Now I want to merge them (all similar pages will "share" the comments, and if you post it on page A it will appear on similar page B), and I would like to programatically erase all those copy&pasted comments from the same user. I have quite a few million comments but speed shouldn't be an issue since this is a one time thing that will run in the background. The programming language doesn't really matter (as long as it can interface to a MySQL database), but I was thinking of doing it in C++.

  I need to use inheritance with EF4 and the TPH model created from DB. I created a new projet to test simples classes. There is my class model: There is my table in SQL SERVER 2008 : VEHICLE ID : int PK Owner : varchar(50) Consumption : float FirstCirculationDate : date Type : varchar(50) Discriminator : varchar(10) I added a condition in my EDMX on the Discriminator field to differentiate the Scooter, Car, Motorbike and Bike entities. MotorizedVehicle and Vehicle are Abstract. But when I compile, this error appears : Error 3032: Problem in mapping fragments starting at lines 78, 85:EntityTypes EF4InheritanceModel.Scooter, EF4InheritanceModel.Motorbike, EF4InheritanceModel.Car, EF4InheritanceModel.Bike are being mapped to the same rows in table Vehicle. Mapping conditions can be used to distinguish the rows that these types are mapped to. Edit : To Ladislav : I try it and error change to become it for all of my entities : Error 3034: Problem in mapping fragments starting at lines 72, 86:An entity is mapped to different rows within the same table.   When using the CvMat type, the type of data is crucial to keeping your program running. For example, depending on whether your data is type float or unsigned char, you would choose one of these two commands: cvmGet(mat, row, col); cvGetReal2D(mat, row, col); Is there a universal approach to this? If the wrong data type matrix is passed to these calls, they crash at runtime. This is becoming an issue, since a function I have defined is getting passed several different types of matrices. How do you determine the data type of a matrix so you can always access its data? I tried using the "type()" function as such. It's objects will be created not only from CoreData storage but also by deserializing XML (somehow like instance->title = [[NSString stringWithUTF8String: (const char *)subNode->children->content] retain; ) without saving to CoreData, and sometimes I need to save it. What is the correct steps to modify existing class to do that except of adding CoreData framework and making my class an NSManagedObject instead of NSObject? • Great examples of self-paced labs and exercises

  It is probably a safe bet that many of us are what they call Tactile / Kinesthetic Learners meaning that we learn best when we are physically doing something as opposed to listening to an online tutorial or reading a book. My goal with this question is to derive a list of books or online resources that serve as superb examples of self-paced programming labs and exercises. For example, I was extremely impressed with the SportsStore exercise in Steven Sanderson's Pro ASP.NET MVC Framework. The exercise spanned multiple chapters and gradually introduced new topics. I was also impressed with the materials associated with the Windows Azure Boot Camp. The demos and lab materials, accessible through the website, allow us to practice and reinforce what we can read about in articles and books. Please list any examples you might have, one per submission, below. The question is language/platform agnostic. Suggestions can be generic or specific to a given technology (PHP, SQL Server, Azure, Flash, Objective C, etc.). I only ask that the answers pertain to labs and exercises that relate to programming. My hope is that the best answers will float to the top allowing developers to review the top answers and find another programming topic that can be learned through example.

  This is both a conceptual and how-to question: In wiki formatting, or non WYSIWYG editor scenarios, you typically have a textarea for content entry and then an ancillary preview pane to show results, just like StackOverflow. This works fairly well, except with larger amounts of text, such as full page wikis, etc. I have a concept that I'd like critical feedback/advice on: Envision a two pane layout, with the preview content on the left side, taking up ~ 2/3 of the page, and the textarea on the right side, taking up ~ 1/3 of the page. The textarea would float, to remain in view, even if the user scrolls the browser window. Furthermore, if the user scrolls the textarea content, supposing it has exceeded the textarea's frame size, the page would scroll so that the content presently showing in the textarea syncs/is parallel with the content showing in the browser window. I'm imagining a wiki scenario, where going back and forth between markup and preview is frustrating. I'm curious what others think; is there anything out there like this? Any suggestions on how to attack this functionality (ideally using jquery)? Thanks

  Since the function template in the following code is a member of a class template, it can't be specialized without specializing the enclosing class. But if the compiler's full optimizations are on (assume Visual Studio 2010), will the if-else-statement in the following code get optimized out? • How can I extend this SQL query to find the k nearest neighbors?

  I have a database full of two-dimensional data - points on a map. Each record has a field of the geometry type. What I need to be able to do is pass a point to a stored procedure which returns the k nearest points (k would also be passed to the sproc, but that's easy). I've found a query at http://blogs.msdn.com/isaac/archive/2008/10/23/nearest-neighbors.aspx which gets the single nearest neighbour, but I can't figure how to extend it to find the k nearest neighbours. I figure I probably need to recursively search for the first region containing k records, but without using a table variable (which would cause maintenance problems as you have to create the table structure and it's liable to change - there're lots of fields), I can't see how.

• Can Haskell's Parsec library be used to implement a recursive descent parser with backup?

  I've been considering using Haskell's Parsec parsing library to parse a subset of Java as a recursive descent parser as an alternative to more traditional parser-generator solutions like Happy. Parsec seems very easy to use, and parse speed is definitely not a factor for me. I'm wondering, though, if it's possible to implement "backup" with Parsec, a technique which finds the correct production to use by trying each one in turn. For a simple example, consider the very start of the JLS Java grammar: Literal: IntegerLiteral FloatingPointLiteral I'd like a way to not have to figure out how I should order these two rules to get the parse to succeed. As it stands, a naive implementation like this: literal = do { x <- try (do { v <- integer; return (IntLiteral v)}) <|> (do { v <- float; return (FPLiteral v)}); return(Literal x) } Will not work... inputs like "15.2" will cause the integer parser to succeed first, and then the whole thing will choke on the "." symbol. In this case, of course, it's obvious that you can solve the problem by re-ordering the two productions. In the general case, though, finding things like this is going to be a nightmare, and it's very likely that I'll miss some cases. Ideally, I'd like a way to have Parsec figure out stuff like this for me. Is this possible, or am I simply trying to do too much with the library? The Parsec documentation claims that it can "parse context-sensitive, infinite look-ahead grammars", so it seems like something like I should be able to do something here.

In my game, when I tilt the device, the character moves and faces the correct direction, but does not animate. I am using an animated UIImageView.   Are there any libraries or techniques that simplify computing equations ? Take the following two examples: F = B * { [ a * b * sumOf (A / B ''' for all i ''' ) ] / [ sumOf(c * d * j) ] } where: F = cost from i to j B, a, b, c, d, j are all vectors in the format [ [zone_i, zone_j, cost_of_i_to_j], [..]] This should produce a vector F [ [1,2, F_1_2], ..., [i,j, F_i_j] ] T_ij = [ P_i * A_i * F_i_j] / [ SumOf [ Aj * F_i_j ] // j = 1 to j = n ] where: n is the number of zones T = vector [ [1, 2, A_1_2, P_1_2], ..., [i, j, A_i_j, P_i_j] ] F = vector [1, 2, F_1_2], ..., [i, j, F_i_j] so P_i would be the sum of all P_i_j for all j and Aj would be sum of all P_j for all i I'm not sure what I'm looking for, but perhaps a parser for these equations or methods to deal with multiple multiplications and products between vectors? To calculate some of the factors, for example A_j, this is what i use from collections import defaultdict A_j_dict = defaultdict(float) for A_item in TG: A_j_dict[A_item[1]] += A_item[3] Although this works fine, I really feel that it is a brute force / hacking method and unmaintainable in the case we want to add more variables or parameters. Are there any math equation parsers you'd recommend? Side Note: These equations are used to model travel. Currently I use excel to solve a lot of these equations; and I find that process to be daunting. I'd rather move to python where it pulls the data directly from our database (postgres) and outputs the results into the database. All that is figured out. I'm just struggling with evaluating the equations themselves. Thanks :)

• Commit is VERY slow in my NHibernate / SQLite project

  I've just started doing some real-world performance testing on my Fluent NHibernate / SQLite project, and am experiencing some serious delays when when I Commit to the database. By serious, I mean taking 20 - 30 seconds to Commit 30 K of data! This delay seems to get worse as the database grows. When the SQLite DB file is empty, commits happen almost instantly, but when it grows to 10 Meg, I see these huge delays. The database has 16 tables, averaging 10 columns each. One possible problem is that I'm storing a dozen or so IList members, but they are typically only 200 elements long. But this is a recent addition to Fluent NHibernate automapping, which stores each float in a single table row, so maybe that's a potential problem. Any suggestions on how to track this down? I suspect SQLite is the culprit, but maybe it's NHibernate? I don't have any experience with profilers, but am thinking of getting one. I'm aware of NHibernate Profiler - any recommendations for profilers that work well with SQLite?
