• Facebook shared links not opening (Redirecting correctly) [on hold]

  I have been in a problem and after hours of searching find nothing useful to counter it. I have a website, and that website has RSS feed attached to facebook page. As I post the content to website it also appears on facebook page. But I have people complaining on my page that my posts don't open when they click the link to read the details. Since I am a Chrome user and didn't notice this happening for months. But as I checked it through firefox and Internet Explorer, I found the links shared actually don't open with these browswers. They only work in Chrome, means they are properly redirected in chrome browser and not in firefox and IE. Whenever I click on links of posts on my page through IE or firefox the url does not simply redirect to my website and I get to see nothing as if I am not connecting to Internet. When examining URL I see this: http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fbit.ly%2F112NVO9&h=EAQHDgTUv&s=1 Which shows that facebook is not redirecting the links properly. Moreover I also use link shortening service bit.ly to shorten my shared links. I have checked same problem exists even if I don't shorten my links. And I checked I am not alone, even the tech giant website mashable.com links also don't open in IE and FF from facebook, they only open in Chrome. From mobile phone the links don't open (redirected properly) even in chrome. Can anyone tell me what is the issue? Nothing much is written about it on Internet as no once has faced this problem. P.S: I have checked from different systems, the problem persists.

• Automated backups for Windows Azure SQL Database

  One of the questions that I've often been asked is about how you can backup databases in Windows Azure SQL Database. What we have had access to was the ability to export a database to a BACPAC. A BACPAC is basically just a zip file that contains a bunch of metadata along with a set of bcp files for each of the tables in the database. Each table in the database is exported one after the other, so this does not produce a transactionally-consistent backup at a specific point in time. To get a transactionally-consistent copy, you need a database that isn't in use.The easiest way to get a database that isn't in use is to use CREATE DATABASE AS COPY OF. This creates a new database as a transactionally-consistent copy of the database that you are copying. You can then use the export options to get a consistent BACPAC created.Previously, I've had to automate this process by myself. Given there was also no SQL Agent in Azure, I used a job in my on-premises SQL Server to do this, using a linked server configuration.Now there's a much simpler way. Windows Azure SQL Database now supports an automated export function. On the Configuration tab for the database, you need to enable the Automated Export function. You can configure how often the operation is performed for you, and which storage account will be used for the backups.It's important to consider the cost impacts of this as well. You are charged for how ever many databases are on your server on a given day. So if you enable a daily backup, you will double your database costs. Do not schedule the backups just before midnight UTC, as that could cause you to have three databases each day instead of one.This is a much needed addition to the capabilities. Scott Guthrie also posted about some other notable changes today, including a preview of a new premium offering for SQL Database. In addition to the Web and Business editions, there will now be a Premium edition that has reserved (rather than shared) resources. • Ubuntu 12.04 Precise on Dell Inspirion Duo

  I installed 12.04 version of Ubuntu on my Dell Inspiron Duo. After installing with help of program like UNetBootIn or smth like that. ( Besides i have no problem with kernel panic on chargin on/off like in 11.10. ) After that i followed with steps from here, in the first post here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1658635 There left one big problem with touchscreen: When i whant to drag with touchscreen like i`m doing it with mouse (for ex. selecting multile files with mouse) the selectable rectangular doesnot shows while im dragging, when dragging was finished (i put my finger off) it shows the rectangular and hides it. This thing disables all my tries to drag a window or smth else.... Also some time after using touchscreen such things are disabeling: - Often - click from a mouse (after keyboard using functinality restores) - less often - mouse movement disables (sometimes restores sometimes not) - lesser than other - keyboards works but no sygnals accepting (keyoards has indicator, so thay react, mouse of course not) The test from eTouchU utility passes perfeclty. Any idia for solving this problem? P.S.: Im from Ukraine, so sorry if my possible grammar mistakes. P.P.S.: Besides how to know the physicall position of my tabled mode? For automaticall rotating. Like on each rotation do some script.

• Trying to find a recent - PHP book - that utilizes SOLID principles! [closed]

  Pulling my hair out! I have heard of Martin Fowler's book PoEAA and the other book Head First OOA OOD but those are not in PHP. I desperately want to read them, but ONLY in PHP utilizing the - SOLID acronym - principles! Does anyone know of the absolute best, most recent PHP book that utilizes the SOLID principles and GRASP, and all the other best practices? I want to learn from the best possible source! Not beginner books! I already understand OOP. This seems like an almost impossible question to find the answer to and so I thought, hey, might as well post on stackexchange!! Surely someone out there must know!!!!!!!!!! Or if noone happens to know, Maybe they know of an open source application that utilizes these principles that is relatively small that is not a framework. Something that I can go through every single class, and spend time understanding the insides and outs of how the program was developed. Thanks so much in advance! • Trouble typing accented letters at the terminal prompt after launching Python

  Edit: Using Mac OSX 10.6, whether I use Terminal.app or iTerm.app, when I launch Python, I can no longer type accented letters (e.g.é or ä). Any ideas? ORIGINAL POST: I am using iTerm 0.10. I would like to type in a string with accented characters (e.g. é) but when I do so at the iTerm prompt, no character appears. This does not occur in Terminal. Could someone help me find out what the problem is, and eventually fix it? EDIT: In Terminal.app, I can use accented characters. However, when I launch the Python 2.71 prompt, I can no longer type in accented characters. When I quit python and return to the terminal prompt, I can again type accented characters. In iTerm, although I quit Python and restarted iTerm, I cannot type in accented characters (I do not know if I could before).

• organizing images by resolution with batch files

  Doing some digging I'm trying to figure out a command line solution for organizing very large archives of images based on their resolution into folders, 1920x1080, 1600x1200, 1600x900, etc. I've come across a few post on Superuser mentioning something called ImageMagick, is that the best method to the madness I'm trying to accomplish? I've never used any command line functions/applets/tools other then those that come from Microsoft. I'm rather new to command line usage but ive been enjoying the hell out of it using Powershell, xcopy and robocopy. I am slowly trying to push myself further into the Linux world with Ubuntu running on one of my physical machines as well as a virtual machine so that's an option as well.

  Okay, so the title may be a little misleading… but I am currently travelling and so have had very little time and access to resources to do much fsharping – this has meant that I am right now missing my favourite new language. I was interested to see this post on Stack Overflow this evening concerning the performance of the F# language. The person posing the question asked 8 key points about the F# language, namely… How well does it do floating-point? Does it allow vector instructions How friendly is it towards optimizing compilers? How big a memory foot print does it have? Does it allow fine-grained control over memory locality? Does it have capacity for distributed memory processors, for example Cray? What features does it have that may be of interest to computational science where heavy number processing is involved? Are there actual scientific computing implementations that use it? Now, I don’t have much time to look into a decent response and to be honest I don’t know half of the answers to what he is asking, but it was interesting to see what was put up as an answer so far and would be interesting to get other peoples feedback on these questions if they know of anything other than what has been covered in the answer section already.

• Same SCSI drive appears multiple times on the controller list

  Hi, I have an Adaptec AHA-2940UW SCSI adapter, to which I connected a single Atlas 10K III drive (and nothing more). When my computer loads up, the pre-OS Adaptec screen shows (I believe this is called the POST screen), where I can see the Atlas drive listed many times (i.e. with ID0, ID1, ... ID5, ID7, ID8,...,ID15 [ID6 is the adapter itself]) Using the same HD on an Adaptec AHA-2940UB the disk only shows once Since my OS hasn't been installed yet, I'm not sure if this is a problem (I would guess it is), and if so - how to solve it. Termination and multiple LUNs come mind, but the cable provides termination and I don't see why a hard drive would request multiple LUNs, especially considering it is not jumpered at all, and multuple LUN support is disabled in the Adaptec controller BIOS (via the SCSISelect utility) Thank you

• What GUI systems let you copy text with formatting preserved, via clipboard?

  If you select and copy a text from Internet Explorer and paste it in Miscrosoft Word, the formatting is preserved. If you do that in Opera or Firefox in Windows, it's lost, IIRC. I use Gnome desktop in Linux, and formatting is preserved nowhere, which is very inconvenient. Even if desktop lets me copy formatted text, I can't post it into any web form: WISYWIG Javascript forms will strip formatting and make me walk through the whole text and fix it manually. I don't know how things are in Macs. Is there a desktop + browser + editor set that allow passing formatted text consistently throughout?

• Laptop turns off after 20 minutes of use

  My laptop a sony vaio VGN-NW11S http://www.trustedreviews.com/Sony-VAIO-VGN-NW11S-S---15-5in-Laptop_Laptop_review. Everytime i turn it on, in safe mode or not, if i try to open an application i.e. run a process such as google chrome or event viewer, defrag, virus scan, it completely turns off without warning, nor giving a trace of events the next time I switch it on. Apart from that, I had worries it might be my battery or power supply but I dont think it is that, I took the laptop apart cleaning fans etc. and have ordered some cpu paste as I checked to see the condition of the processor. I will post to see if re-applying the paste works. One more thing, when the heavy processes kick in, the fan starts to make a lot of noise, maybe trying to cool down the CPU? Any ideas on what else it could be and what I could do to test what is wrong?

If I use Firefox Stealthy Plugin and open the site in Firefox, It works like a charm without any problems. But with Google Chrome, Apple Safari and Opera Web browser, the site does not load/open at all because of the Google translate. (I know this because If I remove the Google Translate Code, the site works/loads fine) It was one thing to program for "cross browser compatability" and alltogether another to program for "cross region compatability". What can I do to make sure that the site works from anywhere? Do I completely remove the Google Translate code and just have to do without the additional functionality or Do I look for alternatives like this or according to this?

• Discovering Your Project

  The discovery phase of any project is both exciting and critical to the project’s success.  There are several key points that you need to keep in mind as you navigate this process. The first thing you need to understand is who the players in the project are and what their motivations are for the project.  Leaving out a key stakeholder in the resulting product is one of the easiest ways to doom your project to fail.  The better the quality of the input you have at this early phase the better chance you will have of creating a well accepted deliverable. The next task you should tackle is to gather the goals for the project.  Specifically, what does the company expect to get for the money they are about to layout.  This seems like a common sense task, but you would be surprised how many teams to straight to building the system.  Even if you are following an agile methodology I believe that this is critical. Inventorying the resources that already exists gives you an idea what you are going to have to build and what you can leverage at lower risk.  This list should include documentation, servers, code repositories, databases, languages, security systems and supporting teams.  All of these are “resources” that can effect the cost and delivery schedule of your project. Finally, you need to verify what you have found and documented with the stakeholders and subject matter experts.  Documentation that has not been reviewed is actually a list of assumptions and we all know that assumptions are the mother of all screw ups. If you give the discovery phase of your project the attention that it deserves your project has a much better chance of success. • RPi and Java Embedded GPIO: Hooking Up Your Wires for Java

  So, you bought your blue jumper wires, your LEDs, your resistors, your breadboard, and your fill of Fry's for the day. How do you hook this cool stuff up to write Java code to blink them LEDs? I'll step you through it. First look at that pinout diagram of the GPIO header that's on your RPi. Find the pins in the corner of your RPi board and make sure to orient it the right way. The upper left corner pin should have the characters "P1" next to it on the board. That pin next to "P1" is your Pin #1 (in the diagram). Then, you can start counting left, right, next row, left, right, next row, left, right, and so on: Pins # 1, 2, next row, 3, 4, next row, 5, 6, and so on. Take one blue jumper wire and connect to Pin # 3 (GPIO0). Connect the other end to a resistor and then the other end of the resistor into the breadboard. Each row of grouped-together holes on a breadboard are connected, so plug in the short-end of a common cathode LED (long-end of a common anode LED) into a hole that is in the same grouping as where the resistor is plugged in. Then, connect the other end of the LED back to Pin # 6 (GND) on the RPi GPIO header. Now you have your first LED connected ready for you to write some Java code to turn it on and off. (As, extra credit you can connect 7 other LEDs the same way to with one lead to Pins # 5, 7, 11, 13, 15, 19 & 21). Whew! That wasn't so bad, was it?   I want to use a server as a device to run a script to parse a SMS text in the following way. I. The person types in a specific and special cell phone number (Similar to Facebook’s 32556 number used to post on your wall) II. The user types a text message. III. The user sends the text message. IV. The message is sent to some kind of Device (the server) or SMS Gateway and receives it. V. The thing described above that the message is sent to then parse the test message. I understand that these three question will mix Programming and Server Stuff and could reside here or at DBA.SE How would I make such a cell phone number (described in step I) that would be sent to the Device? How do I create the device that then would receive it? Finally, how do I Parse the text message? I don't want to pay for cloud space, server scripting stuff or server space; I want to just use a free webserver to do this totally free - meaning I will have to do more on my own... My question can be seen in more depth in this visual flowchart

• Stripping Non-Text from a Scanned, OCRd PDF

  I have a PDF created from a scanned document. OCR was used to recognize text. In Acrobat, if I select text, and click 'copy with formatting', I can paste the formatted text into Word, so it seems that fonts and colors are also embedded in the document in addition to just plain text and possibly the size. Is there any way to use this information to create a PDF that just contains the formatted OCRd text, without the scanned image. Currently, my document only shows the scanned image, and the text is on an invisible layer. I would like to create a PDF document that removes the image that was scanned, and displays the formatted text that is currently hidden. The following post has a section on "How can we make the invisible text visible?" PDF has an extra blank in all words after running through Ghostscript However, doing this does not show the correct text formatting (that is retained when pasting in Word), and I also would like to remove the scanned image so that the final PDF just contains formatted (color, font, size) vector fonts, and no images.

• My site was recently attacked. What do I do?

  This is a first for me. One of the sites I run was recently attacked. Not at all an intelligent attack - pure brute force - hit every page and every non-page with every extension possible. Posted with garbage data to every form and tried to post to some random urls too. All tod, 16000 requests in one hour. What should I do to prevent/alert this kind of behavior? Is there a way to limit the request/hr for a given ip/client? Is there a place I should be reporting the user to? They appear to be from China and did leave what seems like a valid e-mail.

• Where to put business logic in MVC design?

  I have created a simple MVC java application that adds records through data forms to a database. my app collects data, it also validates it and stores it. This is because the data is being sourced online from different users. the data is mostly numeric in nature. now on the numeric data being stored into database (SQL server) , i wish that my app should be able to perform computations... and display it. the user is not interested in how computations are done so they must be encapsulated. the user must only be able to view the simple computed data which for example A column data - B Column data / C column data etc... and just display it to the user... i know how to write stored procedures for same but i want a 3 tier app I want the data, that I put into the database as a record, worked upon by performing calculations on it. However, the original data should remain unaffected, while the new data, post-calculations, must be stored as a new entity record into the database. Where should I write the code for this background calculation? As it is the rules and business logic... in a new java beans files ?

• Applications: Some more marble fun!

  Well, yesterday night I was watching a tutorial on XNA when I came across this neat little trick. It was a simple XNA application with a Windows Phone logo in it and whenever the user clicked on the device the logo would move towards the click point, and I couldn't resist experimenting with the marble (; The code is written in C# using CF3.5. Here is a video of the demo,   You probably noticed that the motion of the marble towards the click point (destination) is not linear. The marble starts off with a high velocity and slows down as it reaches its destination. This is achieved by making the speed of the marble a function of the distance between marble's current position and the destination, so as the marble approaches the destination point, the distance between them reduces and so does the speed, until it becomes zero. More on the code and the logic behind it in the next post. What I'd like to do next is, instead of making the marble stop at the click point, it should continue to move beyond it, bounce around the screen a few times and eventually come to a stop after a while. Let's see how that goes.

  I'm trying to set up a podcast service at present. This is just a 'spare time' task - so I wanted a quick, easy way to do it. To get this working: I've ripped (with owner permission) some YouTube content across to MP3 and hosted this content on Azure Blob Storage. I've posted blog posts - with linked mp3 content - inside a Blogger website. I've registered the RSS feed with iTunes This all seems to be working OK - http://dotnetmobilepodcast.blogspot.co.uk/ However, when it comes to a couple of final touches, then I'm hitting problems. RSS I would like to add iTunes metadata to the RSS feed. However, I can't find any way to do this inside the Blogger system. To workaround this I've tried using FeedBurner with its StreamCast plugin. However, the output from FeedBurner doesn't seem to be accepted by iTunes - e.g. http://feeds.feedburner.com/MobileAppCSharpPodcasts leads to this very unhelpful 11111 message: Is there any other way I can get this iTunes metadata content into the Blogger RSS feed - e.g. maybe an alternative service or a Yahoo! Pipe? Showing the MP3 files in the Blog I'm trying to work out how to automatically display the linked enclosures inside the blog posts - do the blogger Dynamic Views don't seem to have any way of doing this? I've found the HTML in those views very difficult to follow. If necessary I can workaround this using manual entries into each blog post... but I'd prefer to do this programatically if I can.

• Why is my Asus P5PL2-E using 640MB of RAM (out of 4GB) ? [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: Windows XP and RAM 3.5GB+ I've recently installed 4GB of RAM on my server, which is running Windows XP SP2 32-bit and My Computer showed that only 3.37GB were installed. After digging Google for a bit, I couldn't find anything helpful, but I do remember reading a post in a forum regarding the motherboard using 640MB of RAM. Digging in my own BIOS, I've also found that my motherboard has also reserved that amount for its self. Why does my motherboard reserve this memory and how can I tune it down to say 128MB?
