using Silverlight 3's HtmlPage.Window.Navigate method to reuse an already open browser window

Hi, I want to use an external browser window to implement a preview functionality in a silverlight application. There is a list of items and whenever the user clicks one of these items, it's opened in a separate browser window (the content is a pdf document, which is why it is handled ouside of the SL app). Now, to achieve this, I simply use HtmlPage.Window.Navigate(new Uri("http://www.bing.com")); which works fine. Now my client doesn't like the fact that every click opens up a new browser window. He would like to see the browser window reused every time an item is clicked. So I went out and tried implementing this: Option 1 - Use the overload of the Navigate method, like so: HtmlPage.Window.Navigate(new Uri("http://www.bing.com"), "foo"); I was assuming that the window would be reused when the same target parameter value (foo) would be used in subsequent calls. This does not work. I get a new window every time. Option 2 - Use the PopupWindow method on the HtmlPage HtmlPage.PopupWindow(new Uri("http://www.bing.com"), "blah", new HtmlPopupWindowOptions()); This does not work. I get a new window every time. Option 3 - Get a handle to the opened window and reuse that in subsequent calls private HtmlWindow window; private void navigationButton_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { if (window == null) window = HtmlPage.Window.Navigate(new Uri("http://www.bing.com"), "blah"); else window.Navigate(new Uri("http://www.bing.com"), "blah"); if (window == null) MessageBox.Show("it's null"); } This does not work. I get a new window every time. option 5 - Use CreateInstance to run some custom javascript on the page private void navigationButton_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { HtmlPage.Window.CreateInstance("thisIsPlainHell"); } and in my aspx I have function thisIsPlainHell() { var popup = window.open('http://www.bing.com', 'blah'); popup.focus(); } Guess what? This does work. The only thing is that the window behaves a little strange and I'm not sure why: I'm behind a proxy and in all other scenarios I'm being prompted for my password. In this case however I am not (and am thus not able to reach the external site - bing in this case). This is not really a huge issue atm, but I just don't understand what's goign on here. Whenever I type another url in the address bar of the popup window (eg www.google.com) and press enter, it opens up another window and prompts me for my proxy password. As a temporary solution option 5 could do, but I don't like the fact that Silverlight is not able to manage this. One of the main reasons my client has opted for Silverlight is to be protected against all the browser specific hacking that comes with javascript. Am I doing something wrong? I'm definitely no javascript expert, so I'm hoping it's something obvious I'm missing here. Cheers, Phil

UpdatePanel, JavaScript postback and changing querystring at same time in SharePoint Search Page

Hi Guys, Been tearing my hear out with this one. Let me see if I can explain: I have a SharePoint results page on which I have a Search Results Core WebPart. Now I want to change the parameter in the querystring when I postback the page so that the WebPart returns different results for each parameter e.g. the querystring will be interactivemap.aspx?k=Country:Romania this will filter the results for Romania. First issue is I want to do this with javascript so I call: document.getElementById('aspnetForm').action = "interactivemap.aspx?k=Country:" + country; Nothing special here but the reason I need to call from Javascript is there is also a flash applet on this page from which the Javascript calls originate. When the javascript calls are made the page needs to PostBack but not reload the flash applet. I turned to ASP.Net AJAX for this so I wrapped the search results webpart in an update panel. Now if I use a button within the UpdatePanel to postback the UpdatePanel behaves as expected and does a partial render of the search results webpart not reloading the flash applet. Problem comes because I need postback the page from javscript. I called __doPostBack() as I have used this successully in the past. It works on it's own but fails when I first call the above Javascript before the __doPostBack() (I also tried calling click() on a hidden button) the code for the page is at the bottom. I think the problem comes with the scriptmanager not allowing a partial render when the form post action has changed. My questions are. Please note that when I test the zVersion2wsSQL webservice independently (from INETMGR right-mouse and click Browse) it works as expected (i.e. presenting all the methods of the webservice) like this snippet: GetMessageByType MessageName="Get_x0020_Message_x0020_By_x0020_Type" I can test this webmethod by clicking on it and it presents the Test dialog (because it takes a simple datatype and I am invoking it on localhost (i.e. MOJITO): **Get Message By Type** **Test** To test the operation using the HTTP POST protocol, click the 'Invoke' button. Google maps api v3 refreshing away markers

Hi, I am having problems with the google maps API V3. It seems that every time I load my page the maps load (including the markers) and then it does a quick reload and removes all the markers. Am I missing somehting? What am I doing wrong? Rails HABTM accepts_nested_attributes_for mapping table

Currently I have a habtm relationship between a datastream (stream), and a chart. I want to be able to use the 'typical' jquery "add new stream" method to add a new entry into a mapping table that holds the chart_id, and stream_id.. But I think that most examples out there are made to handle a one to many relationship.. The functionality provided here by Ryan Bates is what I'm looking for, But I dont want to use checkboxes, I want to use a select (drop down) to add new items to the mapping table. Installing a configuration profile on iPhone - programmatically

Hi all, I would like to ship a configuration profile with my iPhone application, and install it if needed. Mind you, we're talking about a configuration profile, not a provisioning profile. First off, such a task is possible. If you place a config profile on a Web page and click on it from Safari, it will get installed. If you e-mail a profile and click the attachment, it will install as well. "Installed" in this case means "The installation UI is invoked" - but I could not even get that far. So I was working under the theory that initiating a profile installation involves navigating to it as a URL. I added the profile to my app bundle. A) First, I tried [sharedApp openURL] with the file:// URL into my bundle. No such luck - nothing happens. B) I then added an HTML page to my bundle that has a link to the profile, and loaded it into a UIWebView. Clicking on the link does nothing. Loading an identical page from a Web server in Safari, however, works fine - the link is clickable, the profile installs. I provided a UIWebViewDelegate, answering YES to every navigation request - no difference. C) Then I tried to load the same Web page from my bundle in Safari (using [sharedApp openURL] - nothing happens. I guess, Safari cannot see files inside my app bundle. D) Uploading the page and the profile on a Web server is doable, but a pain on the organizational level, not to mention an extra source of failures (what if no 3G coverage? etc.). So my big question is: how do I install a profile programmatically? And the little questions are: what can make a link non-clickable within a UIWebView? Is it possible to load a file:// URL from my bundle in Safari? If not, is there a local location on iPhone where I can place files and Safari can find them? EDIT on B): the problem is somehow in the fact that we're linking to a profile. I renamed it from .mobileconfig to .xml ('cause it's really XML), altered the link. And the link worked in my UIWebView. Renamed it back - same stuff. It looks as if UIWebView is reluctant to do application-wide stuff - since installation of the profile closes the app. I tried telling it that it's OK - by means of UIWebViewDelegate - but that did not convince. Same behavior for mailto: URLs within UIWebView. For mailto: URLs the common technique is to translate them into [openURL] calls, but that doesn't quite work for my case, see scenario A. For itms: URLs, however, UIWebView works as expected... EDIT2: tried feeding a data URL to Safari via [openURL] - does not work, see here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/641461/iphone-open-data-url-in-safari EDIT3: found a lot of info on how Safari does not support file:// URLs. UIWebView, however, very much does. Also, Safari on the simulator open them just fine. The latter bit is the most frustrating.

Why does my sharepoint web part event handler lose the sender value on postback?

I have a web part which is going to be a part of pair of connected web parts. For simplicity, I am just describing the consumer web part. This web part has 10 link buttons on it. And they are rendered in the Render method instead ofCreateChildControls as this webpart will be receiving values based on input from the provider web part. Each Link Button has a text which is decided dynamically based on the input from provider web part. When I click on any of the Link Buttons, the event handler is triggered but the text on the Link Button shows up as the one set in CreateChildControls. When I trace the code, I see that the CreateChildControls gets called before the event handler (and i think that resets my Link Buttons). How do I get the event handler to show me the dynamic text instead? Jquery removeClass Not Working

Hey, My site is here: http://treethink.com What I have going is a news ticker on the right that is inside a jquery function. The function starts right away and extracts the news ticker and then retracts it as it should. When a navigation it adds a class to the div, which the function then checks for to see if it should stop extracting/retracting. This all works great. The problem I am having is that after the close button is clicked (in the content window), the removeClass won't work. This means that it keeps thinking the window is open and therefore the conditional statement inside the function won't let it extract and retract again. With a simple firebug check, it's showing that the class isn't being removed period. It's not the cboxClose id that it's not finding because I tried changing that to just "a" tags in general and it still wouldn't work so it's something to do with the jQuery for sure. Someone also suggested a quick alert() to check if the callback is working but I'm not sure what this is. How to remove buttons in AnythingSlider and stop the sliding?

I'm currently using the anythingSlider it works quite well. But if there is one li, how do i make it stop sliding and remove the buttons displayed below? The *li*s are generated from the database so sometimes there's only one. I want the buttons to show only when there is more then one image. if there is one image all the buttons( back, forward, pause) should not be displayed. Does anybody know of a way of stopping it sliding if there's only one li and removing the buttons when there is only one image. ===================================================================================== Thank You. jquery Tab - Open Link in current panel does not work

Hi, I just started playing around with the Jquery ui tabs. The content of the Tabs consist mainly of static content at the beginning. Now some of the content within the panels do have Links to some kind of subcontent. So if the User clicks on a link in the panel I would like to replace the content of the current panel with the content coming from the link. So I used the script directly from the jquery ui tab documentation but I can't get it to work. It is always opening the link directly, not within the panel. So far so good. Still one problem left. I can't get it to work for subsequent links. I tried to do it with the second "AddClickHandler" for callback when the ajax call has finished. Using a different function with a simple alert showd it is actually been called when the content of the panel has been updated. But I can't bind anything to the new links in that content. The "$('a', ui.panel)..." doesn't work. What would be the correct selector for this? Any hint? Regards Maik

Memory Troubles with UIImagePicker

I'm building an app that has several different sections to it, all of which are pretty image-heavy. It ties in with my client's website and they're a "high-design" type outfit. One piece of the app is images uploaded from the camera or the library, and a tableview that shows a grid of thumbnails. Pretty reliably, when I'm dealing with the camera version of UIImagePickerControl, I get hit for low memory. If I bounce around that part of the app for a while, I occasionally and non-repeatably crash with "status:10 (SIGBUS)" in the debugger. On low memory warning, my root view controller for that aspect of the app goes to my data management singleton, cruises through the arrays of cached data, and kills the biggest piece, the image associated with each entry. I know it's not telling me about the actual memory footprint of the UIImages themselves, but it gives me SOME numbers at least, so I can see that SOMETHING'S happening. (Sorry for the hamfisted way I build that NSLog message too--I was going to fire another UIAlertView, but realized it'd be more useful to log it.) Pretty reliably, after toodling around in the image portion of the app for a while, I'll pull up the camera interface and get the low memory UIAlertView like three or four times in quick succession. So that's the situation. Now my specific questions: THE time I see this happening is when the UIPickerView's camera iris shuts. I click the button to take the picture, it does the "click" animation, and Instruments shows my memory footprint going from about 10mb to about 25mb, and sitting there until the image is delivered to my UIViewController, where usage drops back to 10 or 11mb again. If we make it through that without a memory warning, we're golden, but most likely we don't. Anything I can do to make that not be so expensive? Second, I have NSZombies enabled. Am I understanding correctly that that's actually preventing memory from being freed? Am I subjecting my app to an unfair test environment? Third, is there some way to programmatically get my memory usage? Or at least the usage for a UIImage object? I've scoured the docs and don't see anything about that.

Silverlight DataGrid not stretching to accommodate all items in data source?

I'm having problems getting a Silverlight DataGrid to stretch to accommodate all the items in it's dataSource. I've got a Grid that contains two DataGrids. I've tried setting height=Auto on the Grid and the DataGrids. I've tried setting HorizontalContentAlignment="Stretch" on the Grid and the DataGrids. The object tag has height="100%" I've set the Height="*" on the RowDefinitions for the Grid Any help would be very much appreciated! Run javascript after form submission in update panel?

This is driving me crazy! I have read at least 5 questions on here closely related to my problem, and probably 5 or so more pages just from googling. I just don't get it. I am trying to have a jqueryui dialog come up after a user fills out a form saying 'registration submitted' and then redirecting to another page, but I cannot for the life of me get any javascript to work, not even a single alert. Putting that same code in a script tag inside the updatePanel. Tried to use RegisterClientScriptBlock and RegisterStartUpScript Just doing a Response.Write with the script tag written in it. Tried various combinations of putting the entire jquery.dialog code in the registerstartup script, or just trying to change the autoOpen property, or just calling "open" on it. I can't even get a simple alert to work with any of these, so I am doing something wrong but I just don't know what it is. Here is what I know: The Jquery is binding properly even on async postbacks, because the div container that is the dialog box is always invisible, I saw a similiar post on here stating that was causing an issue, this isn't the case here. Using page_load instead of document.ready since that is supposed to run on both async and normal postbacks, so that isn't the issue. The update panel is updating correctly because <p>Did register Pass? <%= registrationComplete %></p> updates to true after I submit the form. So how can I make this work? All I want is - click submit button inside an update panel - run server side code to validate form and insert into db - if everything succeeded, have that jquery (modal) dialog pop up saying hey it worked.

Portion from CGPDFPage + Scale (zoom)

I wanna take a rect from CGPDFPage (the portion of image around the user's touch point(x,y)) and scale it by a scaleFactor (ie 2x). Below the code I've used to get CGPDFPage's rect. The problem with it is the scaleFactor support. The idea is: 1) pageRect size is pageRect.size *2 2) myThumbRect (the region to zoom) become resultImageSize/scaleFactor (because the final output will be scaleFactor times bigger) 3) pointOfClick (x,y) become pointOfClick(2x,2y) 4) scale up the context by factor CGContextScaleCTM(ctx, scaleFactor, -scaleFactor); 5) grab the rect However the result is an empty image. iPad: Mobile Safari, HTML5 <video>, and jquery transitions

I'm building a simple proof-of-concept for an iPad-specific website that would use video transitions to bring users from section to section. For purposes of the proof of concept, each "section" is just an image with a semitransparent content text box positioned above it. There are just 2 sections, "home" and "contact", and they've got a transition video sandwiched between them via z-indexing. The idea for the proof of concept is that clicking on the "home" section causes it to disappear, followed by playback of the transition video, which (upon completion) disappears to reveal the "contact" section. Everything is working fine with this version of the demo on the iPad and on Safari for Windows and OS X.
