  • No Audio from Windows XP after formatting.

    - by karthik
Hello folks, I have reinstalled in my Windows XP machine. After it is re-isntalled the audio in my machine has failed. I have installed all the device drivers in my mother board. The Realtek Sound driver is also installed. Note: Sound is working when I test the surround settings test in my RealTek program, but unable to play any audio, tried playing both in my local machine and from the internet. Any clues to troubleshoot?

  • Freeware (preferably open-source) tool for creating multi-file spanning archives as a self merging SFX

    - by Lockszmith
I have a large file I want to transfer using either Internet storage hosting, DVD-Rs or USB storage, which sometimes is limited to FAT file-systems (for example: mobile phones) What I'm basically looking for is a tool that create multiple files/volumes (less than 2GB each - FAT's file size limit) which are packed with a self-extracting executable. Currently the only tool I found doing this is WinRAR, but that's shareware, and not free. Is there any Free, preferably Open-Source tool that does that? Thank in advance

  • DNS Records: Forwarding a port on my public domain

    - by marienbad
I've set up an MX record for a local mailserver before, but I've never done this... I want to set up my public domain (registered by Dreamhost) to accept IPP (Internet Printing Protocol) jobs and send them to the IPP LaserJet printer on my home LAN. IPP uses port 631. What do I put in my DNS records?

  • Newly configured MSSQL2008, TIME_WAIT but no ESTABLISHED?

    - by 3molo
    Windows 2008 R2, standard. No firewall locally on it. Newly setup because an old SQL2000 had two disks die (or could it be the raid controller?) at the same time. Luckily, I had fresh backups. The databases have been restored, and SP2 for SQL2008 applied. I can see various hosts trying to establish a session, but the (customer) sites does not work and I don't see the expected established sessions. A wireshark reveals a full three-way handshake. Since it's customer machines connecting, I cannot logon to them and restart application pools.. What on earth could be causing this? No. Time Source Destination Protocol Info 1 0.000000 1.2.5.127 1.2.6.133 TCP desktop-dna > ms-sql-s [SYN] Seq=0 Win=65535 Len=0 MSS=1380 SACK_PERM=1 Frame 1: 62 bytes on wire (496 bits), 62 bytes captured (496 bits) Ethernet II, Src: Cisco_31:5e:09 (00:26:0b:31:5e:09), Dst: Vmware_b7:00:05 (00:50:56:b7:00:05) Internet Protocol, Src: 1.2.5.127 (1.2.5.127), Dst: 1.2.6.133 (1.2.6.133) Transmission Control Protocol, Src Port: desktop-dna (2763), Dst Port: ms-sql-s (1433), Seq: 0, Len: 0 No. Time Source Destination Protocol Info 2 0.000123 1.2.6.133 1.2.5.127 TCP ms-sql-s > desktop-dna [SYN, ACK] Seq=0 Ack=1 Win=8192 Len=0 MSS=1460 SACK_PERM=1 Frame 2: 62 bytes on wire (496 bits), 62 bytes captured (496 bits) Ethernet II, Src: Vmware_b7:00:05 (00:50:56:b7:00:05), Dst: Cisco_31:5e:09 (00:26:0b:31:5e:09) Internet Protocol, Src: 1.2.6.133 (1.2.6.133), Dst: 1.2.5.127 (1.2.5.127) Transmission Control Protocol, Src Port: ms-sql-s (1433), Dst Port: desktop-dna (2763), Seq: 0, Ack: 1, Len: 0 No. Time Source Destination Protocol Info 3 0.000884 1.2.5.127 1.2.6.133 TCP desktop-dna > ms-sql-s [ACK] Seq=1 Ack=1 Win=65535 Len=0 And netstat TCP 1.2.6.133:1433 1.2.2.98:26895 TIME_WAIT 0 TCP 1.2.6.133:1433 1.2.2.98:26912 TIME_WAIT 0 TCP 1.2.6.133:1433 1.2.2.98:26918 TIME_WAIT 0 TCP 1.2.6.133:1433 1.2.2.98:26931 TIME_WAIT 0 TCP 1.2.6.133:1433 1.2.5.127:2736 TIME_WAIT 0 TCP 1.2.6.133:1433 1.2.5.127:2737 TIME_WAIT 0 TCP 1.2.6.133:1433 1.2.5.127:2738 TIME_WAIT 0 TCP 1.2.6.133:1433 1.2.5.127:2739 TIME_WAIT 0

  • Who are good suppliers of .NET 4 Hosted Virtual Private Servers ? (May 2010)

    - by Nick Haslam
I'm looking for a supplier for hosting a Virtual server, running Windows Server 2008 (R2 ideally) and .NET 4 to run an internet facing ASP.NET web application. I'd also like to be able to remote desktop onto it, and install other apps as necessary, including other websites as and when. I'm based in the UK, so a UK based supplier would be great. I was looking at Fasthosts, but having researched them a bit more, they look like a bad idea.

  • VPN connection sharing for Ubuntu guest

    - by pzico
I have Ubuntu 10.04 guest on Windows XP host. I need to use a specific VPN software that works only on Windows. How should I configure virtualbox/guest so that the VPN connection would be visible on guest? I already tried NAT and bridged network settings. With both of these options I get only normal internet connection to work, but sites requiring VPN don't work on guest, only on host.

  • Overseas proxy makes Google Chrome think I am in Germany or Netherlands

    - by Shevek
I am in the UK and my firm has an outsourced webscanning service which routes our traffic through either Germany or The Netherlands. Whenever I do a search using Chrome's Address Bar I get either the .de or .nl results page. Is there any way to force Chrome to use the .co.uk ignoring the location it thinks I am in? Internet access is very locked down so alternate proxy suggestions will probably not work.

  • Pinned start menu/taskbar shortcuts gone.

    - by Joey Morani
Hello. I just restarted my Windows 7 PC to find all my pinned shortcuts have disappeared from the start menu and taskbar. I've looked here "C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned" And it seems the shortcuts are still there. Is there maybe a service that isn't running, which is causing this problem? Thanks.

  • Dynamic DNS on D-Link DWR-112 3G router uses a private IP address

    - by user270151
I'm using a D-Link DWR-112 3G router to connect to the internet by using Celcom broadband plug-in. How can I do the port forwarding to my server? I already have correctly configured my DynDNS, but every time the DynDNS will not set to public address but local private address with in the range 10.xxx.xxx.xxx. My router address is 192.168.1.1 and server address is 192.168.1.5. Can someone give me some guideline about this issue?

  • How can I download a package and all of its dependencies with apt-get

    - by Velislav Marinov
I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 and I would like to use apt-get to download a package and all of it's depenedcies. Those packages will have to be installed on computers with no internet connection, so in addition to the base package I also need to all of the package's dependcies as well. Is there an easy way to do this (like in muon package manager)? I now that I can use the apt-get download command for this, but I don't want to manually specify each package that muon recommends to install or upgrade.

  • Host website without domain name?

    - by Frost Shadow
I have an old desktop sitting around I wanted to try making a server out of, but I don't want to pay to register a Domain Name. Is there a way I can host a website without a domain name, or to register a domain name for free? If I can't host a web page without a domain name, can I just access the files on the server through the internet some how without a domain name? Thanks for any insight!

I have a router connected to the internet in one part of the house (BTVoyager) but the wireless range doesnt reach to the other end of the house :-( I also have two spare wireless routers(Belkin G+ Mimo and D-Link DSL-G604T) but as far as I can tell neither of them support wireless bridging.

  • Free or inexpensive compression proxy

    - by Maksee
Hi, I'm looking for a way to minimize the net traffic use with my netbook mobile internet connection. Recently I managed to install Opera Mini on the XP and the opera approach of compressing the data helped a lot. But I would like to do the same with my favorite browser using http proxy that compress the data "on the fly". But searching for "compression proxy servers" I could not find any working host/port links. Is it a brand-new technology and therefore expensive or rarely available?

  • pull bandwidth from wireless WAN into local LAN

    - by cortical
We have a local network (A) of about 50 computers connected via gigabit ethernet. We get a connection to the internet using two broadband connections to a backbone and distribute the bandwidth across the 50 computers using a CISCO 1811 router, but the bandwidth is not enough for everybody. There is a campus wide wireless network(B) that has very high bandwidth, is there a device or way to setup multiple individual connections to network B and supply the bandwidth to our network A?
