• Should I replace string patterns in asp.net mvc using a custom viewengine?

  Have an ASP.NET MVC site that is localized. The localization functionality adds the two digit language ID to the URL, e.g. /es/Page. If no language Id is found in the URL, the site switches to the user's browser culture. All's good. However, the site's hyperlinks, a mixture of hard-coded href tags, actionlinks, etc., don't include the base language ID, so when clicking through the site the set culture is lost, and the site reverts to the user's browser culture. My (lazy) thought is to replace all href values, that don't point to an external site, with the localized URL (e.g. include the /es/). Otherwise, all site links will need to be updated to include the culture code. Is this just plain dumb? Or, reasonable, and should be done using a custom view engine, or some other approach?

• How does one inject variables into page templates from a custom Drupal module?

  We've created a custom module for organizing and publishing our newsletter content. The issue I'm running into now -- and I'm new to theming and Drupal module development, so it could just be a knowledge issue as opposed to a Drupal issue -- is how to get each newsletter themed. At this point the URL structure of our newsletter will be: /newsletters/{newsletter-name}/{edition-name}/{issue-date} which means that we can create template files in our theme using filenames like page-newsletters-{newsletter-name}-{edition-name}.tpl.php, which is great. The one issue I'm running into is that all of the content comes through in the $content variable of the theme. I'd like to have it come through as different variables (so that I can, inside the theme, place certain content in certain areas.) Is there a proper way for doing this?

• Wireless Connected But No Internet Connection (Ubuntu 12.04)

  I am using same network for 2 days and everything was normal. However, today even though it shows me as connected to the network, I do not have internet connection. If I use ethernet cable instead of wireless, I am still able to connect to the internet. Also my friends are able to connect to the wireless network and they can get internet connection. I did not update or install anything since yesterday. Therefore I do not have any idea why it is happening. Now I would like a summary of the top fives ordered by popularity. Each column has it's own point value. column 'first' is rewarded 5 points, 'second' four points, 'third' three points, and so on... So, in my example it should be something like this: 1 Cheese (9 points = 5 + 4 -> 1 time in 'first' column and 1 time in 'second' column) 2 Eggs (6 points) 3 Mayonaise (5 points) 4 Ketchup (4 points) 5 Bacon (3 points) 6 Ham (3 points) What would be the easiest solution (PHP) for this kind of situation? However, when I point the mouse over a contextmenu a MouseOver Trigger fires from somewhere that draws a terribly ugly nearly square border on top of my nifty rounded border! Where is it coming from?? EDIT: The most likely cause is that the ContextMenu is an ItemsControl that holds MenuItems, even when my ContextMenu holds a single UserControl. So the UserControl is seen as a MenuItem and highlighted when the IsMouseOver==true! What is the easiest way to disable this behaviour?

• WCF - WebReferences not working

  At the client end, I have generated a Proxy using SvcUtil.exe and it is working fine. Then I have added a WebReference to the client assembly and calling the same method. But it is not working. My program is running in console mode and the method is suppose to return a string. It is not returning the string. I just see a blank console window. No exception is thrown. And after setting a debug point on the method call I see that, program is halted on the method call for ever. What should I look for to solve the problem? I am using VS2005. And adding the webReference by right-clicking the client project and then clicking "Add Web Reference" pop-up menu.

  I'm looking Specifically for some detailed information on RETSBond Integrator (RI) or something similar. Has anyone used it? Drawbacks? benefits? What I need is something that provides a PHP API out of the box or some kind of RPC exposure. This thing seems to provide an API for batching the MLS server and putting in my own DB which is acceptable although ideally I'd prefer something totally external. Do any MLS services provide that that you are aware of? I realize this is somewhat subjective but I'm looking for a starting point on different services/vendors to research.

  I have an ASP.Net MVC app, and i have some xsl files inside of the Content directory. I've try a few methods to get directory dynamically buy keep on coming short. So how do i get the directory to point to the Content/xsl folder? the closest that i came to was with this: this.GetType().Assembly.CodeBase which only returns the project DLL, but i can't figure out how to move up a few levels from there or what .net library to use to navigate around the path. there's no ../.. :( Basically i want to navigate to the Content/xsl folder which is at the same level of the Bin directory.

• Is it possible to do AJAX calls in a liquid template?

  I'm looking at the liquid templating language for Rails apps: http://wiki.github.com/tobi/liquid/ I'd like my users to also be able to make AJAX calls (just like the ones in rails for periodically_call_remote, observe_field, etc). Is this possible? Assuming the rails helpers can be added as filters, how will the user be able to modify what gets returned by the AJAX call? They cannot modify an rjs file on the server or anything like that. I suppose the AJAX call could return JSON (instead of rendered html) and then the javascript could use that to render something. But I'm having a little trouble envisioning how it would work exactly. If anyone can point me to an example of this or clarify it'd be much appreciated. Thanks!

  I'm using Kohana 2. I would like to catch a database exception to prevent an error page when no connection to the server can be established. The error displayed is system/libraries/drivers/Database/Mysql.php [61]: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Lost connection to MySQL server at 'reading initial communication packet', system error: 110 The database server is not reachable at all at this point. I'm doing this from a model. I tried both public function __construct() { // load database library into $this->db try { parent::__construct(); } catch (Exception $e) { die('Database error occured'); } } as well as try { $hoststatus = $this->db->query('SELECT x FROM y WHERE z;'); } catch (Exception $e) { die('Database error occured'); } ...but none of them seemed to work. It seems as if no exception gets passed on from the main model. Is there another way to catch the database error and use my own error handling?

• Is it dangerous to set off an autoreleased NSOperationQueue?

  I have a task that takes a rather long time and should run in the background. According to the documentation, this can be done using an NSOperationQueue. However, I do not want to keep a class-global copy of the NSOperationQueue since I really only use it for that one task. Hence, I just set it to autorelease and hope that it won't get released before the task is done. It works. like this: NSInvocationOperation *theTask = [NSInvocationOperation alloc]; theTask = [theTask initWithTarget:self selector:@selector(doTask:) object:nil]; NSOperationQueue *operationQueue = [[NSOperationQueue new] autorelease]; [operationQueue addOperation:theTask]; [theTask release]; I am kind of worried, though. Is this guaranteed to work? Or might operationQueue get deallocated at some point and take theTask with it?

• XAMPP or MAMP on Mac OS X 10.6.2 (Snow Leopard)

  I just bought a new MacBook Pro which comes with Snow Leopard 10.6.2 (Mac OS X 10.6.2). I am used to using XAMPP as my local development server on XP. Since Mac OS X is based on Unix, I was thinking on activating/installing all the necessary stuff as I would normally do on Linux. However, I am not quite ready to be playing around with the system at this point so having an external package would be a nice temporary solution I think. The question is whether I should go with MAMP or XAMPP. Does anybody have any suggestions? The Pro and Cons I suppose. As far as I know, Mac OS X comes with Apache2 and PHP5. Would MAMP or XAMPP modify the existing Apache and PHP installation? Any comments on how I should proceed? PS: Eventually I would use the default installation of Apache and PHP, and install a binary package of MySQL but time for development is an essence and I don't have time to familiarize myself with Mac OS X.

  Hi folks, I've done this before but can't remember how for the life of me. I used aspnetreg_sql.exe to create the membership tables in my database. But now i cant seem to be able to point my web app to the correct database. In the provider settings in asp.net management interface i only see a radio button with the label "AspNetSqlProvider" but I can only test it (in which it always fails). I can't modify the connection. • Tomcat - Redirect to Error Page when ServletContextListener fails

  When Tomcat starts it calls my ServletContextListener to obtain a database connection, which I will later use in other servlets with getServletContext(). It is called in my web.xml as: listener listener-class org.ppdc.database.DBCPoolingListener /listener-class /listener (I removed the < because they wouldn't display properly in this message. If I cannot connect to the database when Tomcat starts up I get a 404 error, because Tomcat cannot start the application. How can I redirect the user to a custom error page at this point? I tried the following in my web.xml (I have the < brackets in the original): (error-page) (error-code404/error-code) (location/file_not_found.html/location) (/error-page) Any ideas on how to redirect a user to one of my error pages when Tomcat tries to start the application? • Getting website data into Adobe InDesign

  I'd like our magazine team to be able to download website data in a file that Adobe InDesign can read. They can then import/open the file, make a few tweaks, and cut out a vast deal of repetitive manual labour (they currently use copy&paste for a few hours). After a brief Google I note that v2 of InDesign can import/export XML so perhaps that is my best bet? Are there any alternatives, and can anyone offer any advice on them? I am using a PC, and the magazine team are on Macs; testing will be tiresome I fear. The data we wish to format is fairly simple - a title followed by a short chunk of text (repeated about 50 times, say). I'll ask about importing images later. Thanks for your help. I will return to Google now, but it would be great if anyone can point me in a more specific direction first!

  I have a Windows Mobile 6 ARMV4I project where I would like to get the value of the program counter. The function is declared like this: extern "C" unsigned __int32 GetPC(); My assembly code looks like this: GetPC FUNCTION EXPORT GetPC ldr r0, [r15] ; load the PC value in to r0 mov pc, lr ; return the value of r0 ENDFUNC But, when I call the GetPC() function, I get the same number every time.   I am wondering how to build a load on demand tree view using ASP.Net MVC. I understand what is involved in creating a JQuery TreeView using lists, but the load on demand part is really confusing me. I don't need the full solution, but can somebody point me in the right direction on where I should start? I have done these plenty of times using WinForms which keeps the view state preserved. One of the issues I am seeing is remembering all the node that have been expanded and not just the newly expanded one. If anyone had some advice, I would appreciate it. Thanks!

  We have a .NET 2.0 application that uses the RijindaelManaged class to encrypt some sensitive data. This was fine until we ran into some machines that require the use of FIPS-compliant algorithms. We'd like to switch to AesCryptoServiceProvider, but most of our target machines haven't upgraded past .NET 2.0. Requiring an upgrade is out of the question. After all, upgrades are scary! Is there any way we could use AesCryptoServiceProvider in a .NET 2.0 application? Since 3.5 uses the 2.0 CLR, I was hoping there might be a way to build the needed libraries into the app. Failing that, could someone point me to a reference on the native API that's wrapped by AesCryptoServiceProvider?

• Windows Server 2008 R2: ASP queries to IIS fail with UAC enabled

  I have some ASP code that creates a virtual directory in IIS. However, when running on IIS7 in Windows Server 2008 R2, the call to GetObject fails with "permission denied". This only occurs when UAC is enabled; the entire process works perfectly if UAC is disabled. Set objIIS = GetObject("IIS://localhost/W3SVC/" & siteNumber & "/Root") siteNumber itself is a valid parameter (as the system works fine if UAC is off). Any ideas of a workaround I can make for this? Unfortunately turning off UAC at this point is not an option.

One of the functions of the .dll uses name of the reader as argument. My problem is that I don't know how to get the name.
