• Manipulating excel "autoshapes" with VBA

  I am trying to write a macro in VBA (Excel) that is assigned to a Checkbox. Whenever the checkbox is clicked, an "autoshape" will change its "order" from "Send to Back" to "Send to Front". Basically, I am trying to create a dashboard with multiple panels, so that users can access information without moving between sheets. Each panel will have a rectangular autoshape as its background and the components of the panel will be "grouped" within the autoshape. Can this be done? • Which data structure(s) to back a Final Fantasy ATB-style queue? (a delay queue)

  Situation: There are several entities in a simulated environment, which has an artificial notion of time called "ticks", which has no link to real time. Each entity takes it in turns to move, but some are faster than others. This is expressed by a delay, in ticks. So entity A might have a delay of 10, and B 25. In this case the turn order would go: A A B A A I'm wondering what data structure to use. At first I automatically thought "priority queue" but the delays are relative to "current time" which complicates matters. Also, there will be entities with larger delays and it's not unforseeable that the program will run through millions of ticks. It seems silly for an internal counter to be building higher and higher when the delays themselves stay relatively small and don't increase. So how would you solve this?

• How to remove a single event in a recuring event

  hi all. I' m having an issue with fullCalendar. I created a script that, adds an event to fullCalendar, along a day range, and set a unique id in order to have this event recur. let say for example that i have a recuring event from 1/1/10 till 10/1/10. i create 10 single event Objects with the same id, and place then on fullCalendar. my question is, that i want to exclude a single day over this recuring event. (for example 3/1/10). i found out, that if i remove that particural event from the sources table and then update the event its fine. but how can i get on runtime the actucal index of this eventObj on sources table? Note that, i add the events on the fullCalendar using the .fullCalendar("renderEvent") method. Thanks.

• Reload AJAX data every X minutes/seconds, jQuery

  Hi everyone, I programmed a CMS that has a log of who has recently logged into the system. Presently, this data is fed into a jQuery UI tab via Ajax. I would like to put this information into a sidebar on the main page and load it via AJAX every 30 seconds (or some set period of time). How would I go about doing this? Does the PHP response need to be JSON coded? I am fairly new to AJAX and JSON data.   I need to create a toplist in the page footer on a site that I'm building. The footer is created in the default SiteMesh layout template (views/layouts/main.gsp). In order to create the toplist access to the database is needed, so I've encapsulated all logic needed for the toplist creation in a service class (services/FooService). Please note that while services are usually accessed from the controller layer, in this case the default layout template (views/layouts/main.gsp) is not generated from a controller. Can the layout view (views/layouts/main.gsp) access a service class? How? Is this the correct design decision? If not, what is a better encapsulation and how do I interact with said encapsulation from the layout view (views/layouts/main.gsp)?

  I don't know much about jquery at all, so bear with my ignorance, but I'm pretty sure I can accomplish this with jquery. I need jquery to check if an element exists, and if so, add a class to a different element. For example, if class "minimal-price-link" exists, then add a class to "regular-price" or what I really am wanting to do is make the regular-price strikethrough. • jQuery wait for ajax call to be over before continuing

  Hi all, I have a problem with a jQuery ajax call. I need to wait for the call to be finished in order to return a value. However, the script seems to jump ahead and not wait for the call to be over. my function then returns "undefined". I have tried to use the .ajax() method and set the value of async to false, but this would not work either. I could I get my function to return the value that I could through the ajax call? Thank you! • Generate a commutative hash based on three sets of numbers?

  I need to generate a commutative hash based on three sets of "score" structs. Each score has a "start", an "end" and a "number". Both start and end are usually huge numbers (8-9 digits) but number is just from 1 to 4. I need them to be commutative so the order does not matter. I'm using XOR at the moment but it seems to be giving bad results. Since I'm working with large large datasets, I'd prefer a performance-friendly solution. Any suggestions? • Are C++ Reads and Writes of an int atomic

  I have two threads, one updating an int and one reading it. This value is a statistic where the order of the read and write is irrelevant. My question is, do I need to synchronize access to this multi-byte value anyway? Or, put another way, can part of the write be complete and get interrupted, and then the read happen. For example, think of value = ox0000FFFF increment value to 0x00010000 Is there a time where the value looks like 0x0001FFFF that I should be worried about? Certainly the larger the type, the more possible something like this is I've always synchronized these types of accesses, but was curious what the community thought.

But in my app i see the effect of appBlueTheme as GWT doc say "inherited modules will be cascaded in the order they are listed" I want theme to be changed based on user response.   I am looking for an example of how to use the new DataServiceState Save and Restore methods in a WP7 application in order to tombstone a datacontext - I cannot find any examples and the approach I used resulted in an exception this saves the data context correctly PhoneApplicationService.Current.State["DataContext"] = DataServiceState.Save(this.Model.Entities); this attempts to restore it after the app is re-activated var dc = (PhoneApplicationService.Current.State["DataContext"] as DataServiceState).Restore(); but throws an exception An item could not be added to the collection. When items in a DataServiceCollection are tracked by the DataServiceContext, new items cannot be added before items have been loaded into the collection. This is the same exception I get if I try to reload a datacontext that I stored "directly" (without using the DataServiceState.Save method) in the PhoneApplicationService.Current.State. I cannot find any offical documentation on the new ODATA v2 DataServiceState class or examples. thanks Michael

  Trying to retrieve an array of ActiveRecord Objects grouped by date with PostgreSQL. More specifically I'm trying to translate the following MySQL querry: @posts = Post.all(:group => "date(date)", :conditions => ["location_id = ? and published = ?", @location.id, true], :order => "created_at DESC") I am aware that PostgreSQL interpretation of the SQL standard is stricter than MySQL and that consequently this type of query won't work...and have read a number of posts on StackOverflow and elsewhere on the subject - but none of them seem to be the definitive answer on this subject I've tried various combinations of queries with group by and distinct clauses without much joy - and for the moment I have a rather inelegant hack which although works makes me blush when I look at it. What is the proper way to make such a querry with Rails and PostgreSQL ? (Ignoring the fact that surely this should be abstracted away at the ActiveRecord Level)

And in order to access "Inbox" i am using below code: _notesDatabase = _lotusNotesServerSession.GetDatabase(LotusNotesServer, "mail\\" + nsfName, false); NotesView inbox = _notesDatabase.GetView("($Inbox)"); Similarly for "Drafts".   I always have trouble with complicated SQL queries. • Re-ordering a collection of UIView's based on their CGPoint

  Hi all, I have a NSMutableArray that holds a collection of UIViewControllers Amongst other properties and methods an instance of each of the viewControllers are placed in a parent view The user will place these objects individually when desired to. So essentially I use - (void)addSubview:(UIView *)view when a new view is added to the parent view controller. Because the UI is isometric it's made things a tad more complicated What I am trying to do is re-order the views based on their co-ordinate position, so items higher up the parent UIView frame is indexed lower then views lower in the parent UIview frame. And items that are on the left side of the view are positioned at a higher index to those on the right I think the solution may have to do with re-ordering the NSMutableArray but how can I compare the CGpoints? Do I need to compare the x and y separately?

• GoogleMaps API v3 - Need help with two "click" event scenarios. Need similar functionality to v2 AP

  In version 2 of the API the map click event returned an Overlay, LatLng, Overlaylatlng. I used this to create a generic map event that would either retrieve the coordinates of the Map click event, or return the coordinates of a Marker or other type of Overlay. Now that API v3 doesn't return the Overlay or Overlaylatlng during the map click event, how can I go about creating a generic "click" event for the map that works if the user clicks on a marker or overlay? I really don't want to create a click event for each marker I have on my page as I am creating anywhere from a handful to a couple thousand markers. Also, I had to create a custom ImageMapType in order to display the StreetViewOverlay like we could do in v2 of the API because I couldn't find anywhere that told me how to add the StreetViewOverlay without the pegman icon. How can I go about retrieving the LatLng coordinates of a click on this overlay type as well?

I may have something like this: List<BaseClass> list = new List<BaseClass>() { new Class1(1), new Class2(1), new Class1(2), new Class3(1), new Class2(2), new Class4(1), new Class3(2) }; I am trying to use LINQ to semi-sort the list so that the natural order is maintained EXCEPT for certain classes which have base.GroupThisType == true. All classes with GroupThisType should be grouped together at the place that the first class of the same type occurs.   I am preparing a simple dictionary project and I have prepared it to search in 2 languages. Still, as one of them is using Cyrillic letters, I have to be able to check in the database, even if the word is written in Latin letters. What do I mean in Cyrillic: ??? in Latin: kon Both should give the description of the word (in this case "horse"). I have been thinking of using two structures with two alphabets in order to achieve this....Still somehow I cannot get it. Does some of you have experience in a similar situation? I want to take an input list, like ['yahoo', 'wikipedia', 'freebase'] and generate every unique combination of one item with zero or more other items... • How to imitate the workflow view of Automator?

  I’m starting to develop my first full-blown Cocoa application containing a view which I would like to behave (and look) similar to Automator’s AMWorkflowView. The basic features I’d like to achieve: Positioning of subviews Display of subviews in expanded / collapsed states Multiple selection Drag and drop In order to get accustomed to Cocoa, I started with a custom NSView which mainly served as a container for the custom subviews and handled their positioning and multiple selection. The subviews are also subclasses of NSView, and contain a variable amount of views themselves, like buttons, labels and popup menus, and therefore can have different heights. This worked quite well, but before going on, I want to make sure to have everything neat and tidy according to the MVC pattern. I suspect that there already is a class in Cocoa that facilitates the implementation of a view container, like maybe NSCollectionView. It seems that there is no (easy) way to display differently sized views in an NSCollectionView, though. Should I continue implementing my custom NSView (probably using an NSArrayController for selection and sorting support), or are there better ways to go? Any help is much appreciated
