• Better way to implement custom views in a listview with simpleadapter?

  I have a value called tags which is a comma separated list of words. I want to put this into nicely designed "tag-buttons". The below works. • Using "as bool?" instead of "object something = ViewState["hi"]"

  So I'm going through old code (2.0) and I came across this: object isReviewingValue = ViewState["IsReviewing"]; if (isReviewingValue is bool) { return (bool)isReviewingValue; } My first thought was to us the "as" keyword to avoid the unneeded (bool)isReviewingValue; But "as" only works with non value types. No problem, I just went ahead and did this: bool? isReviewingValue= ViewState["IsReviewing"] as bool?; if (isReviewingValue.HasValue) { return isReviewingValue.Value; } Question is: Besides looking a bit more readable, is this in fact better? EDIT: So this is getting more interesting. I decided to test it using a simple stopwatch and turns out that the second is much faster... Which after reading some of the responses here I didn't expect at all. I was thinking for sure my way was much slower. • Display a jQuery Dialog/Popup, then set a hidden field using the result of the dialog

  The Problem I have a page with a form on. It has a hidden field called: generic_portrait I want the user to click a link "select portrait" This will open a Dialog/Popup using jQuery, based on a dropdown completed earlier in the form. If the value of the dropdown called "gender" is "male" then show male options, if "gender" is set to "female" show female options. Each portrait has a radio button, each with a name assigned "male1", "male2" etc Depending on the radio button selected in the popup, I want the hidden field to be set to match this. The Questions What is the best way to show a dialog/popup using jQuery, different depending on a dropdown box on the page. Use Javascript to see what is selected, then show a corresponding Div? I can do the check to see what the dropdown is set to using jQuery, but how can I then shown a specific popup based on that? Once i've popped it up, how do I take the value assigned to the selected radio box, and set the hidden field called "generic_portrait" to this value. Why i'm asking Normally I would figure this out myself, as i'm sure it's not that difficult, but I don't use Javascript and/or PHP very often, and this is due for a client urgently. So I would really, really appreciate some help on this one. Thanks for all replies in advance.

• jQuery not working as expected on HTTPS Internet explorer

  When I try to run my code on any other webbrowsers apart from the Internet explorer it works fine. But when I try to run the code on Internet explorer I do get an alert box saying HERE along with an Ok button. but the problem is when I click on that OK button I do not get anything.   Hi all, Im writing an app which reads an RSS feed and places items on a map. I need to read the lat and long numbers only from this string: http://www.xxxxxxxxxxxxxx.co.uk/map.aspx?isTrafficAlert=true&lat=53.647351&lon=-1.933506 .This is contained in link tags Im a bit of a programming noob but im writing this in C#/Silverlight using Linq to XML. Shold this text be extrated when parsing or after parsing and sent to a class to do this? Many thanks for your assistance. EDIT. Im going to try and do a regex on this this is where I need to integrate the regex somewhere in this code. The requirements have now changed so that now the XML can have more than one definition tag and reference tag. They can appear in any order, i.e definition, reference, reference, definition, reference. How can I update the XSLT to accommodate this? Probably worth mentioning that because my XSLT processor is using .NET I can only use XSLT 1.0 commands. Many thanks!

• Can you target Google Chrome? (Yes, you can)

  Hi, I need to position this update button on www.euroworker.no/order (you'll have to add an item to the cart, use the Kjøp button to add and Handlevogn to view the cart). Works in FF and IE. (Although there is another alignment problems with IE) but not in Chrome or Safari. I had it working before, but the only thing I can think of to do is target safari and Chrome. Is this possible?   I'm in that uncomfortable position again, where somebody has left me with a code snippet in a language I don't know and I have to maintain it. While I haven't introduced Ruby to myself some parts of it are quite simple, but I'd like to hear your explanations nonetheless. Am I right in saying this is nowhere near what it actually does, or am I missing something fundamental, which is likely considering I have no Ruby knowledge?

• reading keyboard input without "consuming" it in x86 assembly

  Ok so here the deal: I have an assignment regarding DOS and interrupts: I need to write a sort of key-logger function that can be called from C code. what it means is a c program would call an assembly function called startlog that would indicate to start logging the keys pressed until a function called endlog is called. the logging should work like this: write the ascii value of any key pressed without disturbing the C code between startlog and endlog, meaning that if the C code also needs to read the input (let's say by scanf, it would work ok). I managed to write the logger by changing the interrupt vector 9th entry (interrupt for keyboard press) to a function I wrote that writes the values to a file, and it works fine. however the C code does not get the input. Basically what i did is read the key pressed using int 21h, however after reading the ascii value it is "consumed" so I need a way to either simulate the key press again or read the value without "consuming" it so next time a key is read it reads the same key. (I described the code in english because it is long and clumsy assembly code)

  So I have been trying to use the example from Tutorial and change it so it fits my program. The getColumnValue method returns the object that holds the information that is supposed to be displayed. Is this the way to go or should it rather return the actual String to be displayed.   1) What is int? Is it any different from the struct System.Int32? I understand that the former is a C# alias (typedef or #define equivalant) for the CLR type System.Int32. Is this understanding correct? 2) When we say: IComparable x = 10; Is that like saying: IComparable x = new System.Int32(); But we can't new a struct, right? or in C like syntax: struct System.In32 *x; x=>someThing = 10; 3) What is String with a capitalized S? I see in Reflector that it is the sealed String class, which, of course, is a reference type, unlike the System.Int32 above, which is a value type. What is string, with an uncapitalized s, though? Is that also the C# alias for this class? Why can I not see the alias definitions in Reflector? 4) Try to follow me down this subtle train of thought, if you please. We know that a storage location of a particular type can only access properties and members on its interface.   I setup custom CSS class for array of dynamic TextBoxes (inputs as HTML) so... now I need to get array of it : <input type="text" style="width: 50px;" class="DynamicTB" id="ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_GridView1_ctl02_id" readonly="readonly" value="1" name="ctl00$ContentPlaceHolder1$GridView1$ctl02$id"> sure client don't really knows the count of inputs.   I am trying to add a feature to my app that would allow me to enable/disable the "Call Me" button based on whether or not I am at [home|the office]. There is currently one row, available, the value of it is the string True. I want to be able to transparently pass variables to the templates like this: {% if available %} <!-- Display button --> {% else %} <!-- Display grayed out button --> {% endif %} Now, I could add logic to every view that would check the database, and pass the variable to the template, but I am trying to stay DRY. What is the best way to do this? UPDATE I created a context processor, and added it's path to the TEMPLATE_CONTEXT_PROCESSORS, but it is not being passed to the template def available(request): available = Setting.objects.get(key="available") if open.value == "True": return {"available":True} else: return {} UPDATE TWO If you are using the shortcut render_to_response, you need to pass an instance of RequestContext to the function. from the django documentation: If you're using Django's render_to_response() shortcut to populate a template with the contents of a dictionary, your template will be passed a Context instance by default (not a RequestContext). To use a RequestContext in your template rendering, pass an optional third argument to render_to_response(): a RequestContext instance. Your code might look like this: def some_view(request): # ... return render_to_response('my_template.html', my_data_dictionary, context_instance=RequestContext(request)) Many thanks for all the help!

• Best way to store this data?

  I have just been assigned to renovate an old website, and I get to move it from some old archaic system to drupal. The only problem is that it's a real-estate system and a lot of data is stored. Currently all the information is stored in a single table, an id represents the house and then everything else is key/value pairs. There are a possible 243 keys per estate, there are 23840 estates in the system. As you can imagine the system is slow and difficult to query. I don't think a table with 243 rows would be a very good idea, and probably worse than the current situation. I've done some investigating and here's what I've found out: Missing data does not indicate a 0 value, data is merged from two, unique sources/formats. Some guessing is involved. I have no control over the source of the data. There are 4 keys that are common to all estates, all values look like something that is commonly searched for and could be indexed There are 10 keys that are in the [90-100)% range 8 of these are information like who's selling it, and it's address. The other two seem to belong with the below range There are 80 keys that are in the [80-90)% range This range seems to mostly just list room types and how many the house has (e.g. bedrooms_possible, bathrooms, family_room_3rd, etc) This range also includes some minor information like school districts, one or two more pieces of data on the address. The 179 keys that are in the [0-80)% range include all sorts of miscellaneous information about the estate My best idea was a hybrid approach, create a table that stores important, common information and keep a smaller key/value table. How would you store this information?

It is a pretty straight forward script. However, it is getting little complicated when I submit it. Since I have more than one form on my page (per WHILE PHP LOOP), thus when I submit - only the FIRST form gets submitted. Furthermore, any other subsequent forms that I submit - data is being copied from the first form. Is there any jQuery functions that clear the data? - or is there a better solution. Thanks, Nick
