• List modification in Python

  We are given an algorithm to modify a list of numbers from 1 to 28. There are 5 steps in the algorithm. We have written functions for each step (all correct). We need to write a function that combines all 5 steps. The algorithm modifies the list to get a value. Each time you get a new value, you use the list created by the algorithm from the previous step. This is what we have gotten so far for the code: get_card_at_top_index(insert_top_to_bottom(triple_cut((move_joker_2( move_joker_1(deck)))))) When we run the code to generate the get_card_at_top_index, the first answer is correct. However, the rest are not. Instead of using from the new list, python uses the value that it generated from the last step. What did we do wrong? UPDATE: The other 5 codes passed the tests, they are correct. Code 1 (List) = list1 Code 2 (list1) = list2 Code 3 (list2) = list3 Code 4 (list3) = list4 Code 5 (list4) = list5 we generate a number from 5. We need to run the algorithm again to generate 25 more numbers. We will use list 5 start from step 1

• SpringMvc java.lang.NullPointerException When Posting Form To Server

  I have a form with a user name field on it when i tab out of the field i use a RESTFUL Web Service that makes a call to a handler method in the controller. The method makes a call to a DAO class that checks the database if the user name exists. This works fine, however when the form is posted to the server i call the same exact function i would call in the handler method however i get a java.lang.NullPointerException when it accesses the class that makes a call to the DAO object. So it does not even access the DAO object the second time. I have exception handlers around the calls in all my classes that makes calls. Any ideas as to whats happening here why i would get the java.lang.NullPointerException the second time the function is called.Does this have anything to do with Spring instantiating DAO classes using a Singleton method or something to that effect? What can be done to resolve this?   hi, Say you retrieve a set of records from the datastore (something like: select * from MyClass where reserved='false'). how do i ensure that another user doesn't set the reserved is still false? I've looked in the Transaction documentation and got shocked from google's solution which is to catch the exception and retry in a loop. Any solution that I'm missing - it's hard to believe that there's no way to have an atomic operation in this environment. (btw - i could use 'syncronize' inside the servlet but i think it's not valid as there's no way to ensure that there's only one instance of the servlet object, isn't it? same applies to static variable solution) Any idea on how to solve??? (here's the google solution: http://code.google.com/appengine/docs/java/datastore/transactions.html#Entity_Groups look at: Key k = KeyFactory.createKey("Employee", "k12345"); Employee e = pm.getObjectById(Employee.class, k); e.counter += 1; pm.makePersistent(e); This requires a transaction because the value may be updated by another user after this code fetches the object, but before it saves the modified object. Without a transaction, the user's request will use the value of counter prior to the other user's update, and the save will overwrite the new value. With a transaction, the application is told about the other user's update. If the entity is updated during the transaction, then the transaction fails with an exception. • What's the difference between the [OptionalField] and [NonSerialized]

  I came across this question on transcender: What should you apply to a field if its value is not required during deserialization? Me = [NonSerialized], ANSWER = [OptionalField] My gut reaction was NonSerialised, I have no idea why but in the space of 5 seconds thats what I thought but to my surprise, Transcender says I am wrong. OK fair enough .... but why? looking more closely at the question I have a good idea what to look out for as far as the [Nonseralized] attribute is concerned but still I would really like this clearing up. As far as I can tell the former has relationship with versioning conflicts between newer and older versions of the same assembly. The later is more concerned with not serializing a field FULLSTOP. Is there anything else that might pick these two apart? MSDN does not really say much about this as they both are used on the BinaryFormatters and SoapFormatter with the XMLFormatter using the XMLIgnoreAttribute. My second question is can you mix and match either one of the two attributes ... I am yet to use them as I have not had an excuse to mess about with them. So my curiosity can only go so far. Just throwing this one out there, but does my answer have something to do with the way [OnDeserialized] and the IdeserilizationCallback interface is implemented???? Am guessing here .... Thanks In Advance UPDATE: I know that optional field attribute does not serialize the value held by a data member but NonSerialized will not even serialise the data member or its value. That sounds about a right???? That's all I got on these two attributes.

• Arduino variable going blank after first pass.

  I have an arduino sketch that takes a timet and when that timet is equal to the current time it sets the new timet to timet + 2. I tried changing the code instead of using the if loop I only run the convert function when I send for example t through the serial monitor, this works fine and outputs the correct timet after the execution of the convert function, So I figured the problem is in the if loop... Any ideas?

• Javascript function with PHP throwing a "Illegally Formed XML Syntax" error

  I'm trying to learn some javascript and i'm having trouble figuring out why my code is incorrect (i'm sure i'm doing something wrong lol), but anyways I am trying to create a login page so that when the form is submitted javascript will call a function that checks if the login is in a mysql database and then checks the validity of the password for the user if they exist. however I am getting an error (Illegally Formed XML Syntax) i cannot resolve. • How do I format a Uri when binding an Image in Silverlight?

  I haven't been able to find an answer to this. I have a database that has image paths in it ("images/myimage.jpg"). These images exist on my asp.net site which is also where I host the SL. I want to bind these images to my ListBox control so that the image displays. I have read that since I have a string value, "images/myimage.jpg", that I need to convert it to a BitMap image. I have done this: the xaml: <Image Source="{Binding ImageFile, Converter={StaticResource ImageConverter}}"/> the ImageConverter class: public object Convert(object value, Type targetType, object parameter, CultureInfo culture) { try { Uri source= new Uri(value.ToString()); return new BitmapImage(source); } catch(Exception ex) { return new BitmapImage(); } } I get an error when creating the Uri, "The Format of the URI could not be determined". What am I doing wrong? If I create a Uri that looks like this: http://localhost:49723/images/myimage.jpg, it works just fine. Why doesn't just "images/myimage.jpg" work?

• Unable to write to a text file

  Hello, I am running some tests and need to write to a file. When I run the test's the open = (file, 'r+') does not write to the file. I havw also tried mylogfile.write(result). If the file does not exist is claim's the file does not exist and doesn't create one. Could this be a permission problem where python is not allowed to create a file? I have made sure that all other read's to this file are closed so I the file should not be locked. Can anyone offer any suggestion why this is happening? Thanks

• Why does Python's 'for ... in' work differently on a list of values vs. a list of dictionaries?

  I'm wondering about some details of how for ... in works in Python. My understanding is for var in iterable on each iteration creates a variable, var, bound to the current value of iterable. So, if you do for c in cows; c = cows[whatever], but changing c within the loop does not affect the original value. However, it seems to work differently if you're assigning a value to a dictionary key. cows=[0,1,2,3,4,5] for c in cows: c+=2 #cows is now the same - [0,1,2,3,4,5] cows=[{'cow':0},{'cow':1},{'cow':2},{'cow':3},{'cow':4},{'cow':5}] for c in cows: c['cow']+=2 # cows is now [{'cow': 2}, {'cow': 3}, {'cow': 4}, {'cow': 5}, {'cow': 6}, {'cow': 7} #so, it's changed the original, unlike the previous example I see one can use enumerate to make the first example work, too, but that's a different story, I guess. cows=[0,1,2,3,4,5] for i,c in enumerate(cows): cows[i]+=1 # cows is now [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6] Why does it affect the original list values in the second example but not the first?

• multiple form submission with one submit

  I've been trying to think this through and figure out if it is possible or not. I'm using zen-cart as shopping cart software, but what I'd like to do, is hard code a page that is basically a list of 7-9 products, next to each product is a checkbox, so I'd like to figure out a way, via html,javascript or jquery to submit whichever forms(products) are checked to the cart. The typical form submission for a product looks something like this(sometimes there may be one or two additional hidden fields): <form name="cart_quantity" action="index.php?action=add_product" method="post" enctype="multipart/form-data"> <input type="hidden" name="cart_quantity" value="1"> <input type="hidden" name="products_id" value="7"> <input type="hidden" name="id[6]" value="9" id="attrib-6-9"> <input type="image" src="buy_button.png" alt="Add to Cart" title="Instructional Video Part 1: Add to Cart"> </form> There would be 7-9 of these on the page, each with a checkbox, so I'm assuming a script would need to figure out which ones where checked and submit them via the form action? Maybe there is a better way of going about this that I'm not thinking of because a)it's over my head or b)just haven't figured it out yet. Anyway is something like this possible?

• Using boost::iterator_adaptor

  I wrote a sparse vector class (see #1, #2.) I would like to provide two kinds of iterators: The first set, the regular iterators, can point any element, whether set or unset. If they are read from, they return either the set value or value_type(), if they are written to, they create the element and return the lvalue reference. Thus, they are: Random Access Traversal Iterator and Readable and Writable Iterator The second set, the sparse iterators, iterate over only the set elements. Since they don't need to lazily create elements that are written to, they are: Random Access Traversal Iterator and Readable and Writable and Lvalue Iterator I also need const versions of both, which are not writable. I can fill in the blanks, but not sure how to use boost::iterator_adaptor to start out. • Unable to Get values from Web Form to a PHP Class to Display

  I am having troubles getting the value from my variables submitted via a web form using a PHP class file. Here is my structure of the web page: Order Form Page Process.php Page Book.php Page I can easily get the user data entered (on Order Form Page), process, and display it on the Process.php page. The issue is that I must create a Book class and print the details of the data using the Book class. I have an empty constructor printing out "created" so I know my constructor is being called. I also am able to print the word "title" so I know I can print to the screen by using the Book class. My issue is that I can't get values in my variables in the Book class. Here is my variable declaration: private $title; Here is my printDetails function: public function printDetails () { echo "Title: " . $this->title . "<br />"; } Here is my new instance of the book class: $bookNow = new book; Here are my get and set functions: function __getTitle($title) { return $this->$title; } function __setTitle($title,$value) { $this->$title = $value; } I do have four other variables that I'm looking to display as well. Each of those have their own variable declaration, a line in printDetails, and their own setter and getter. Lastly, I also have a call to the Book class in my process PHP. It looks like this: function __autoload($book) { include $book . '.php'; } $bookNow = new book(); Any help, much appreciated. It must be something so very small (I'm hoping).

  std::vector<int> v1(1000); std::vector<std::vector<int>> v2(1000); std::vector<std::vector<int>::const_iterator> v3(1000); How elements of these 3 vectors initialized? About int, I test it and I saw that all elements become 0. Is this standard? I believed that primitives remain undefined. I create a vector with 300000000 elements, give non-zero values, delete it and recreate it, to avoid OS memory clear for data safety. Elements of recreated vector were 0 too. What about iterator? Is there a initial value (0) for default constructor or initial value remains undefined? When I check this, iterators point to 0, but this can be OS When I create a special object to track constructors, I saw that for first object, vector run the default constructor and for all others it run the copy constructor. Is this standard? Is there a way to completely avoid initialization of elements? Or I must create my own vector? (Oh my God, I always say NOT ANOTHER VECTOR IMPLEMENTATION) I ask because I use ultra huge sparse matrices with parallel processing, so I cannot use push_back() and of course I don't want useless initialization, when later I will change the value.

This is really bothering me. BTW, I'm writing this in VBScript inside a .HTA application page as it has to run locally on tech PCs. Thanks. R.

• Echoing variable construct instead of content

  I'm merging two different versions of a translations array. The more recent version has a lot of changes, over several thousand lines of code. To do this, I loaded and evaluated the new file (which uses the same structure and key names), then loaded and evaluated the older version, overwriting the new untranslated values in the array with the values we already have translated. So far so good! However, I want to be able to echo out the constructor for this new merged array so I can cut and paste it into the new translation file, and have job done (apart from completing the rest of the translations..). The code looks like this (lots of different keys, not just index): $lang["index"]["chart1_label1"] = "Subscribed"; $lang["index"]["chart1_label2"] = "Unsubscribed"; And the old.. $lang["index"]["chart1_label1"] = "Subscrito"; $lang["index"]["chart1_label2"] = "Não subscrito"; After loading the two files, I end up with a merged $lang array, which I then want to echo out in the same form, so it can be used by the project. However, when I do something like this.. foreach ($lang as $key => $value) { if (is_array($value)) { foreach ($value as $key2 => $value2) { echo "$lang['".$key."']"; // ... etc etc } } } ..obviously I get "ArrayIndex" etc etc instead of "$lang". How to echo out $lang without it being evaluated..? Once this is working, can add in the rest of the brackets etc (I realise they are missing), but just want to make this part work first. If there's a better way to do this, all ears too! Thanks.

  Hi, I'm working on a Content Management System, and so far so good. I'm trying to get the system to work with a maintenance mode system. The value is currently set to 1, but it still displays the stuff in the else. Any ideas?

• JSON onFailure issue

  I’m having trouble getting a AJAX/JSON function to work correctly. I had this function grabbing value from a drop down box but now I want to use an anchor tag to set it's value. I thought it would be easy to just use the onClick event to pass string to the function I was using for the drop down box but I get the alert in JSON onFailure event even though data gets added to MySQL. I tried removing the alert from onFailure event but then it doesn't add the data. The drop down still continues work work fine, no alerts. • WCF consumed as WebService adds a boolean parameter?

  I've created the default WCF Service in VS2008. It's called "Service1" public class Service1 : IService1 { public string GetData( int value ) { return string.Format("You entered: {0}", value); } public CompositeType GetDataUsingDataContract( CompositeType composite ) { if ( composite.BoolValue ) { composite.StringValue += "Suffix"; } return composite; } } It works fine, the interface is IService1: [ServiceContract] public interface IService1 { [OperationContract] string GetData( int value ); [OperationContract] CompositeType GetDataUsingDataContract( CompositeType composite ); // TODO: Add your service operations here } This is all by default; Visual Studio 2008 created all this. I then created a simple Winforms app to "test" this. I added the Service Reference to my the above mentioned service and it all works. I can instanciate and call myservice1.GetData(100); and I get the result. But I was told that this service will have to be consumed by a Winforms .NET 2.0 app via Web Services, so I proceeded to add the reference to a new Winforms .NET 2.0 application created from scratch (only one winform called form1). This time, when adding the "web reference", it added the typical "localhost" one belonging to webservices; the wizard saw the WCF Service (running on background) and added it. When I tried to consume this, I found out that the GetData(int) method, was now GetData(int, bool). Here's the code private void button1_Click( object sender, EventArgs e ) { localhost.Service1 s1 = new WindowsFormsApplication2.localhost.Service1(); Console.WriteLine(s1.GetData(100, false)); } Notice the false in the GetData call? I don't know what that parameter is or where did that come from, it is called "bool valueSpecified". Does anybody know where this is coming from? Anything else I should do to consume a WCF Service as a WebService from .NET 2.0? (winforms).

• Passing user_id, site_id, and question_id to same table on create...

  I can't seem to figure out how to do this. I am trying to pass four different variables to a single table. To be more specific I am trying to create a "like" in a likes table that also captures the site_id (like an answer), user_id, and the question_id. Here is the set up. class Like < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :site belongs_to :user belongs_to :question end I will spare you the reverse, has_many associations but they are there. Here is the likes controller where I think the problem is. class LikesController < ApplicationController def create @user = current_user @site = Site.find(params[:site_id]) @like = @site.likes.create!(params[:like]) @like.user = current_user @like.save respond_to do |format| format.html { redirect_to @site} format.js end end end This code successfully passes the like and site_id but after many different variations of trying I can't get it to pass the question id.
